Politics: Louisiana Style --
An anonymous venue of discussion on politics in Central Louisiana
How about keeping this thread free from matters not having to do with the Fall's elections. We have enough fodder in this round of elections to keep everybody busy for a while.
How about start your own blog and you can limit it however you want?
My point is simply that we have elections this fall that are going to decide the political future of this Parish and State for the next decade. There are some very young and dangerous people running for some very key positions of power. These elections will shape Cenla forever. I'm tired of reading about crap that has nothing to do with anything important when our future hangs in the balance.
What part of start your own blog and limit it do you not understand? What may be crap of no importance to you might be viewed differently by others. Just maybe this is an attempt to stop the beating up of Pinevile officials.
The frightened elitiest who said "there are some very young and dangerous people running" is the kind of person who does not want the voters to decide who is best to represent them. Anyone interested in running should be encouraged to qualify and campaign. The voters of Rapides parish especially District 25 can make good, sound decisions on whom to vote for in October. I don't fear youthfulness as much as the good ole (incompetent Police Chief appointed by John K. Snyder) boy network. Attorney John Flynn will NOT decide whom will be Sheriff or State Representative.
City of Alexandria SuedKALB - NewsChannel 5 OnlineMay 21, 2007The City of Alexandria is being sued in a class action lawsuit filed by Shreveport attorney Larry English. The suit claims the city has over charged its rate payers for utility costs. The lawsuit claims “...the City has over charged plaintiffs and class members on their utility accounts for a period of time dating from 1997 to the present.”One note, English you may recall is the attorney for Bridgette Brown.Brown a local attorney was removed from the Cleco lawsuit by city administration. The Cleco case is in mediation and last word has not publicly taken any steps forward. We'll have more on this story as it develops and have been in contact with the Mayor's office for a response but have not heard back yet.
Ruh Roh Scooby. DId Bridgett reveal information to her lawyer English, which she gained while the attorney for the City? That's a big no no.
I hope the city countersues this clown.
Fear youthfulness if it is shrouded in the cloak of a neo-con!
Oh this is goooood! Greg Aymond, known KKK member, shyster attorney, liar, instigator and well known psychopathic idiot is going to insert his considerable bulk into a piss fight between two anonymous posters.Nothing better to do Tubby? Now that you had your butt spanked in court by Dupree AGAIN!!!! How does it feel Tubby to spend all that money on Law School and have your ass handed to you TWICE by a guy you say is stupid to find his own shoes?Face it Aymond, you’re a bottom feeder. And, while you might thing you’re a brave man by threatening those who cannot respond, you don’t have the guts to waggle that fat sausage of a finger in my face outside a courtroom. That’s a mistake you would only make once. Why don’t you just slither your fat ass back to your own blog where you can drink a little mushroom tea, smoke a little of that funny stuff and zone out into your little fantasy world where people actually respect you…You’re a cartoon Aymond, a cartoon.
Is it suprising that the COA is being sued? There have been so many deals, bad legal advise, so much lack of knowledge of contract law that it is amazing the city is not sued every day. Roy will have his hands full solving tghe numerous problems created by purchasing, finance and legal. This is probably just the first of many.
Didn't think beautiful BB ever spent any time working on the Cleco case. Wasn't that the reason it was determined her services were no longer needed nor desired?
From what I understand, the Alexandria Utility bills aretotal = fuel + maintenance + distribution + profitwhere Cleco seems to charge fuel and derive a profit out of that, which covers maintenance, distribution and profit. What Cleco charges for fuel is about the same amount that the City charges as a "Fuel Surcharge" - so either a) the City if very inefficient in management of their utility distribution, b) they are getting a very bad deal from Cleco or c) they are deriving huge profits from utility sales. If the law suit has merit, then the question is who was ultimately overcharging - the City, or Cleco or both. I wonder what this does to the City v Cleco suit if anything.Oh, and to Aymond basher No. 348329 - does it ever get boring? Looks like you are trying to push the SAME buttons EVERY time, can't you come up with something new? I don't know, maybe he's going bald or has bad breath or I don't know. Listening to the same tirades from you over and over, I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy. Not what you wanted, right?
Hey: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 6:42:00 AMI push the buttons that work. I find great sport in punching Aymond with a sharp stick and listening to him howl! And believe me, he ALWAYS howls, he can't help it.Feel sorry for him if you want, that's up to you, but I prod Aymond because he's too stupid to realize that his silence is my defeat.Like I said...he can't help it, watch him howl when he reads this...
"Fear youthfulness if it is shrouded in the cloak of a neo-con!"Fear youthfulness that talks like a Jedi. They are to young to know the error of their ways.
Correct use of the “F” wordWhen saying @#$% was acceptable ?There are only eleven times in history when the “F”word has been considered acceptable for use. They are as follows:11. “What the @#$% do you mean, we are sinking?”– Capt. E.J. Smith of RMS Titanic, 191210. “What the @#$% was that?”– Mayor of Hiroshima, 19459. “Where did all those @#$%ing Indians come from?”– Custer, 18778. “Any @#$%ing idiot could understand that.”– Einstein, 19387. “It does so @#$%ing look like her!”– Picasso, 19266. “How the @#$% did you work that out?”– Pythagoras, 126 BC5. “You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?”– Michelangelo, 15664. “Where the @#$% are we?”– Amelia Earhart, 19373. “Scattered @#$%ing showers, my ass!”– Noah, 4314 BC2. “Aw c’mon. Who the @#$% is going to find out?”– Bill Clinton, 1998and a drum roll please…………!1. “Geez, I didn’t think they’d get this @%#*^ing mad.”– Saddam Hussein, 2003
In 1912, the home office of Hellman's mayonnaise, at that time still in England, was contacted by the government of Mexico and urgently requested to send a resupply of mayonnaise to that country. The only ship available which could ensure the timely arrival of this condiment was the RMS Titanic. The ill-fated ship was, in fact, carrying 20,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after New York City.Apparently at this time, the Mexican people had an inordinate fondness for mayonnaise, and were looking forward to the arrival of the shipment with a fervor bordering upon fanatic. They were so rabidly fanatic about Hellman's famous product, that when they learned of the sinking of the ship containing their precious cargo, they declared a National Day of Mourning, which many people observe to this very day. It is known, of course, as the Sinko de Mayo.
An antelope was asked to go to a dance. She bought a new dress and necklace for the dance. Then she had her horns and hooves done. Since she lived alone, she struggled to dress herself. Running late, she encountered a herd of stampeding buffalo approaching the trail. She thought she was fast enough to get past them. But, unfortunately, she was run over by the buffalo. And this is the origin of... ...the self-dressed stamped antelope.
Just watched the City Counsel meeting what a laugh. George Robertson talking to the Alex group about economic development and he quotes from the book FUTURE SHOCK and says "im sure you have all read that book" ha ..like deer in the headlights. I am not even sure that Hobbs CAN read

What Cleco charges for fuel is about the same amount that the City charges as a "Fuel Surcharge"..."Oh how wrong you are! Do you "understand" after adequate research into the subject or is it simply what you have "heard" and accepted as fact.Cleco's rates are available on their website; the City's rates are available online at www.municode.com. If you research both rate structures you will find that both utilities charge for energy usage with a fuel cost adjustment added to this base rate. A quick comparison of both rates finds them very similar in cost and structure. No utility, Cleco included, operates solely on "fuel surcharge". Your statements are ill-informed, your assumptions incorrect, and your overly point completely invalid. In the future please refrain from such reckless statements without proper investigation.
any truth to rumor that the high muckety mucks at Cleco are unloading their stock like it was poison? I have some stock at Cleco how do i find out if its being dumped?
Tuesday, May 22, 2007 2:53:00 PM:OK, so let's try again - guess I should have been a little more accurate and not use fuel and fuel surcharge interchangeably, my mistake. From your information the following seems to hold true:Both Cleco and the city make their rates up by adding fuel + maintenance + distribution + profit. As needed there is a fuel cost surcharge depending on fuel price on either side.Cleco sells Energy at about half the rate of what the City of Alexandria charges (City 0.072 / Cleco 0.039). I used the lowest rate for the city and the highest for Cleco. The fuel surcharge for the City, last I talked to someone with City Utilities, was around .07 cents, while Cleco at the same time charged me .075 total, which would be their base rate of .039 plus about .036 in various surcharges (they don't give me an itemized bill). That tells me that what the city charges for fuel surcharge alone is enough for Cleco to provide me with electricity, maintain their crap, buy fuel at a higher price and make a profit. If the city does not profit off the fuel surcharge (since that would be illegal), they are getting a bad deal when buying additional energy.Maybe someone needs to cross the river and learn something from the Cleco boys.
"Cleco sells Energy at about half the rate of what the City of Alexandria charges (City 0.072 / Cleco 0.039)."Misinformation again. Where are you getting your facts?
cleco stock is at an all time ten year high
municode.com and cleco.com - where you sent me :)
"Cleco sells Energy at about half the rate of what the City of Alexandria charges (City 0.072 / Cleco 0.039)."Apparently you failed reading comprehension in grade school. These City's base rate includes $0.03/kwh for fuel; any fuel charge above $0.03/kwh is added to the bill. The best comparison is aggregate cost: take all the electric charges on your City bill, add them together, and divide by the kwh's consumed then do the same for a Cleco bill. You will see that the total, delivered cost at your meter is almost identical.

Can any of you actually read??? The City Code says 14.1cents for the first 25kwh and then 8.6 cents for the rest. However, they also take the fuel used at Hunter (what a joke) and add in ENERGY purchased from third parties. Alex buys from Cleco (which they could stop anytime they wanted to)and from LEPA and someone else. (IS this all ENERGY as required by the Code to be the only thing in fuel?) If the total of all the energy and fuel divided by the kwh used is more than 3 cents per kwh, then they add 1.1 cents for each 1 cent over 3.0. Why add the .1 cent? are they making 10%profit on the fuel in excess of 3.0 cents!!?? The code also says there is a true up at the end of each year to equalize the amount collected for fuel and the amount paid for fuel. Seems like if they are collecting 10% extra, Alex customers should get a credit on a bill once a year for this true-up. Personally, in many many years as a customer, I ain't never seen a credit for overcollection of fuel. So where's the money? Interesting Roy was quick to say the suit is without merit. How does he know?? Based on past city lack of performance, there is no way he has any clue. Since he ain't the attorney, but now the mayor, he could get in big trouble quickly by making statements that are later potentially false. Why not just say, we will look into it and if we owe, we will pay. He now stands the risk of having lied while acting as a public official - but then again, this is Louisiana. I LOVE IT!!
Who else is ready to be part of the class action and be represented by the attorney who does not know the difference in the 1st and 5th amendments of the U.S. Constitution?
Personally I hope Roy reports Larry English and Bridgett Brown to the Bar Association for this charade.
Every lawyer who thinks that their conduct is unethical has an obligation to report. The burden is not solely on Roy to report it.
larry english told us that bridgette brown had nothing to do with his new suit. i believe him with all my heart. i also believe he is looking out for our interests and we should be thankful. his petition, in addition to asking for general damages also requests that a really nice waterslide be built. i plan to call him ask ask to be listed in the class action.
I will be at the head of the line @ Bridgett's office when they announce the sign-up.
Actually the city code says 7.2 for every kwh at the top tier level. It is correct that lower tiers are even more expensive. Cleco charges lower rates than what was posted during high consumption months.Anonymous whatever seems to be correct about the city adding a 10% profit to the energy cost adjustment.

Mickey Gilley decided he wanted to go to the local country club and play a few rounds of golf. While he was there he saw his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis, also know by his family nickname "Killer", playing golf with OJ Simpson. Mickey, not wanting to go unnoticed, holllered over to his cousin " How sit goin killer?? OJ and Jerry Lee Lewis both waived back and called out "good".
Boudreaux, a Cajun highlander from Rapides Parish in central Louisiana, was an older, single gentleman, who was born and raised a Baptist, living in South Louisiana. Each Friday night after work, he would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. Now, all of Boudreaux's neighbors were Catholic... and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Fridays. The STRONG delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks wascausing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The priest came to visit Boudreaux, and suggested that Boudreaux convert to Catholicism. After several classes and much study, Boudreaux attended Mass and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "You were born a Baptist and raised a Baptist, but now you are Catholic."Boudreaux's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors and, as he rushed into Boudreaux's yard, clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped in amazement and watched. There stood Boudreaux, clutching a small bottle of water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat, and chanted:"You wuz born a deer, and you wuz raised a deer, but now you a catfish
anon 2:42So, show us your real knowledge...lets say for example-my April 2007 utility bill shows consumption of 2142 kwh. I live in the city limits, and am all electric. what happened to Billy Guinn?
I am confused about this whole "making a profit" issue. Do you think Cleco, Enertgy, are any of the hundreds of electric utilties operate at a break even? Please!!!!! Without "profit" there would be no money to reinvest to keep your lights on.You people need to give it up or go drink the Koolaid at English's office.
"Mickey Gilley decided he wanted to go to the local country club and play a few rounds of golf."Gee..that was funny. Did you make that one up on your own?
"I will be at the head of the line @ Bridgett's office when they announce the sign-up."What was that class action that Bridgette signed all of those plaintiffs on a few years back???I remember seeing people lined up outside of Myrons...uh, I mean..Bridgette's office to sign up.What was that about and how did it end up?
Did someone say Larry English is giving away free Kool Aid? Sounds delicious. I'm going to sign up for his lawsuit because I bet he's the one who can get me my money back! Who needs a team of experts when you can have Larry English?
I've heard that Entergy is interested in buying CLECO and working on the deal and CLECO stockholders are interested in selling for the right price, of course. Anybody else hearing anything about a possible sale?

ARE WE AWARE OF THIS???????Gun Ban Proposal To Be Considered In Louisiana Committee! On Wednesday, May 30 at 9:30 AM in HCR-6, the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee will consider HB 869, a bill that would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them “assault weapons”) and ammunition magazines. It would target every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct Clinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever. HB 869 would also require current owners of such firearms to register their firearms with the State Police, obtain and renew a license annually to keep them, restrict how and where they may be used or transported, and allow the State Police to inspect private homes for compliance. Please make plans to attend Wednesday's hearing to sign up in opposition to HB 869, and please contact the committee members below and urge them to vote "NO" on HB 869: Administration of Criminal Justice Committee (All members can be reached through the House switchboard at (225) 342-6945 or through the PULS line (800) 256-3793 outside the Baton Rouge area)Chairman Danny Martinylarep079@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Alex Heatonlarep095@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Damon Baldonelarep053@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Beverly Brucelarep007@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Roy Burrelllarep002@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Don Cazayouxlarep18@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Charlie DeWittlarep025@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Eric LaFleurlarep038@legis.state.la.usRepresentative “Romo” Romerolarep048@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Jane Smithlarep008@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Warren Trichewebreps@legis.state.la.usRepresentative "Bodi" Whitelarep064@legis.state.la.usRepresentative Ernest Wootonlarep105@legis.state.la.usIS THIS CHAWLIE'S PARTING GIFT TO US????????

About the gun thing;1. Legislation cannot preclude your US constitutional right to be free from unlawful search and seizure.2. Ownership of your guns helps to ensure that right.3. The second amendment gives you the right to keep and bear arms.4. All citizens need to own, know how to use, and keep handy their weapons for just such an attempt.

SpnakyThe Louisiana Legislature consideres itself above the U.S. Constitution . It can and has enacted legislation violating our rights. Each and every member of the Legislative and Executive Branch are interested only in what best benefits them - to hell with the constituents. How do you think this State has earned the reputation for having the best politicians money can buy?
Automatic weapons are not weapons of choice for hunters or for personal protection by law abiding citizens. I have a family of avid hunters and gun owners. Not one of them has the kind of guns the legislation would ban. These are weapons used by gangs and drug dealers to gun down each other, innocent bystanders or police officers. Everyone knows the cops are outgunned in many situations. Just because you are strong proponent of the constitutional right to bear arms, doesn't mean that you should oppose ALL gun control measures. Use common sense. I support HB 869.

I own several and most I shoot with do also. I have never been in a gang, a drug dealer nor shot at police. Drug dealers also use cars, do you support banning cars? And guess what? Despite that bill we will keep owning them.
@anon Wednesday, May 23, 2007 9:07:00 PM From what i know they are not talking about buying the big island. the old baseball complex has very few trees, is not used except for a few practices. they are talking about building more fields down where diamond #1 and the empty field next to it. i really dont see what the big deal is. the big island sale i would have a big problem with, but i dont believe it is part of the cabrini deal.
Anon 6:57 Please show me where my posting concerning the gun ban referred to fully automatic weapons. People like you cause me to believe gun owners should be administered a reading and reading comprehension test."...a bill that would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them “assault weapons”) and ammunition magazines."However, private ownership of fully automatic weapons is legal and, though of no interest to me, is a right tht citizens can, if desired, exercise.Cops are outgunned because cops desire to be outgunned. There are weapons - both sidearm and long rifle - to properly arm our police force. The caliber and type weapon carried by a police force is a decision made by management. If a police force is undergunned itg is because their leaders care not.It is an awareness when "special tactical units" of the military refuse to use the 9mm and carry the .45. Military Intelligence never realized you cannot improve the best which validates the term military intelligence. The soldier who's ass is on the line reverts to a tried and proven caliber not some girlie gun. However, I digressIt is suggested you undertake a course of instruction that will enable you to understand words such as automatic and semi-automatic as relates to weaponry.
Gun banners always seem to misunderstand the difference between automatics and semi- automatics. So-called "Assault rifles" can be either. Both criminals and law abiding citizens have access to both. Either can be legally purchased or illegally obtained.
The young native american lad and his father were having a fireside chat in front of the teepee.Father, asks the young native american lad "how did my older sister get her name?" Your sister was born at first light and when I stepped outside the teepee the first thing I saw was the rising sun" replied the father.Father, asked the young native american lad "how did my younger sister get her name?" "Your younger sister was born in the fall of the year, at night and the first thing I saw when I stepped out of the teepee was the harvest moon so I named her Harvest Moon."Asked the father: "Do you have any other questions two dogs screwing?"
When one can answer a simple question such as name the model number of the 45 caliber revolver adopted by the US Army as an official sidearm then onepossesses the knowledge to pontificate on what hunters and paper shooters want and desire.
I have a family of drivers and I strongly disagree with the manufacture and selling of those "bread box" looking things that are driven on public roadways. The things appear to be nothing but death traps in addition to visual polution (beauty is in the eye of the beholder.)However, they are legal to buy, legal to own and legal to drive on the public highways and biways.Go for it if it turns your crank.
Can anyone finiteally define what an assault weapon is:Dictionary:Main Entry: assault rifleFunction: noun: any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles designed for military use with large capacity magazinesWhat are we banning?
Most folks don't understand that the 2nd Amendment recognizes the fact that as a free society we are born with the right to bear arms. Nothing politically grants us this right."Amendment II (the Second Amendment) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, declares a well regulated militia as "being necessary to the security of a free State", and prohibits Congress from infringement of "the right of the people to keep and bear arms."Notice the words "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." Drivers license and other permissive issuances by governmental authority are not rights of birth. Just because you are born in the United States of America does not mean you have the right to drive.By being born in the United States of America, a citizen of a free society you have the inalienable right to keep and bear arms. And if that bear wants your arm run.
the thing is, once gun control supportes get their foot in the door, its over. a semi automatic SKS can be made fully automatic with a file.so once a ban on fully automatic weapons is passed then its only a hop, skip and a jump to a ban on semi automatics. what people dont realize is criminals couldnt care less what law is passed. if they want it they are going to get it.
From a technical standpoint your statement holds true for any semi-automatic weapon. File downn the right part and you have converted it into a fully auto useless weapon. Don't use high capacity magazines in a run away gun.
Aside from the gun ontrol aspects, the bill allows for the state police to enter your residence, at will to search for weapons. Can you folks not visualize a block by block, house to house search of your homes? Since you are so willing to give up your weapons, what are you going to do about it other than bend over and pass The K-Y??? Won't happen here? Have you seen the film clip of the burly officers kicking the shit out of a 90 year old lady in her kitchen while she held her revolver, the only protection that she had in her unfazed residence? You people are fools if you think your law enforcement neighbor won't turn on you if it is "doing their job".View this link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-taU9d26wT4

Amazing and eye opening video of our rights being trampled upon by our own government. And yet our government will not allow our troops to do in Iraq what they did in New Orleans. Shocking and exactly why we need to protect our gun ownership rights. We need to arm ourselves against our own government.
Arm ourselves against our own government? Duhhhhh! And just what don't you understand about just WHY the framers of the constitution had firearms in the 2nd amendment???
And just what don't you understand about just WHY the framers of the constitution had firearms in the 2nd amendment??? Because they armed themselves and overthrew the government that abused their rights?

I personally feel that President bush has borne the burden of being right very well and is a great example of grace under pressure. Thank God that our country had the providence to re-elect such an able leader. His actions will save even his detractors from losing their heads, literally.
Yes, let's review Bush's accomplishments. 1). He wants to make over 12 million illegal aliens legal; 2). He invaded Iraq with fewer forces and no plan and is highly criticized by commanders in the filed and even Powell and Swartzkop (sp), 3). His Attorney General fires several U.S. attorneys and is being investigated by Congress now. Hmm I am a Republican and this idiot embarrasses me.
The fact that you can only assemble partial facts and weave them into whole cloth is what should embarrass you. It is very hard to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed individual. My conscience won't allow it.
Time will tell the truth and the bell is beginning to toll. Congress could not make the arguement for withholding Iraq funding nor prevail against a presidential veto nor against their constituencies (you and me) with a valid argument to do so. Evidently, President Bush has a better read on America and its affairs than the media that wishes to portray Bush as an oafish dolt. It just goes to show that the strategy of repeating lies until they become the truth works no better than the alchemist quest to turn lead to gold. America continues to face danger from within and without and Bush is on the point.
I am a republican that also believes that G.W. Bush is an "oafish dolt". G.W. is a disgrace to the ideals of Ronald Reagan.
So What Greg. Frankly, I'm embarrassed to think you are in my party!
One of you idiots emailed Goddard a commnet from here and she is going off on it on her blog. This is funny blog vs. media, since when did anyone care? It is like Aymonds vs. everyone. Who cares?
From the Carter Administration there has been a realization that "state spnsored terrorism" posed the next great military and security challenge to he United States due to the fact that acts of violence and coercion could be mounted from countries that were sympathetic with the ideals of the perpetrators of violence without being held accountable as a nation by simply stating that terrorist groups were outlaw forces operating out of their county while insisiting on sovereignty of their borders. Even the UN has had to shrug off incidents that originated from countries as outlaw acts of terrorist individuals while having no solutions for the resulting violence. The UN works as a mediator between disputing nations as those nations will be bound by UN agreements but is totally impotent vis-a-vis globally operating terrorist organizations.Up to the point that President Bush acted in Afghanistan and Iraq, confronting terrorism was like grabbing an eel with chopsticks. To those pacifists that disagree with current tactics and operations, at the very least answer the question, will our enemies contemplate their counties annihilation from the sky in retaliation for violence initiated by them?? May God bless George Bush and give him strength to prevail in the face of such indecision and cowardice. After all, it is your neck he is saving from a date with the scimitar.
So What Greg. Frankly, I'm embarrassed to think you are in my party! Wow, we didn't realize that you owned it. Who did you buy the Republican Party from and when?
It is like Aymonds vs. everyone. Who cares? Apparently you care, as many of you keep bring his name up?
We know for a fact he posts as himself and anonymous, sad really sad.
I have watched for sometime as folks berate Mr. Greg Aymond from every possible direction and for all reasons whether they be fact or fiction. The only reason I have to explain this bizarre behavior is the human impulse to covet what one knows they can never obtain and ridicule the individual that posesses the coveted properties to minimize the burning desire both publicly and in the innermost sanctums of one's soul for the prize. Keep up the good work, Greg. The poor souls know that they cannot reach the pinnacle.
To those pacifists that disagree with current tactics and operations,: Do you mean those pacifists like:Three retired generals challenged a dozen members of Congress in a new ad campaign Wednesday, saying the politicians can't support President Bush's policies in Iraq and still expect to win re-election."I am outraged, as are the majority of Americans. I'm a lifelong Republican, but it's past time for change," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste told reporters."http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/09/generals.iraq.ads.ap/index.htmlor...Retired Marine Lt. Col. Andrew Horne or "Other veterans promoted the campaign at a news conference in Manchester, the start of a six-state publicity tour targeting Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire, Susan Collins of Maine, Norm Coleman of Minnesota and John Warner of Virginia, plus nine House members. All are Republicans." http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/09/generals.iraq.ads.ap/index.htmlor...former 'Secretary of State and retired general Colin Powell confessed that he hopes the withdrawal will get underway this year.' and Ret. USMC Gen. Anthony Zinni, who said "In the lead up to the Iraq war and its later conduct, I saw at a minimum, true dereliction, negligence and irresponsibility, at worse, lying, incompetence and corruption." http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/21/60minutes/main618896.shtml. Are these the pacifists you are speaking of? Perhaps you have more insight into warfare than these veterans and commanders? Most people, including the intelligent Republicans, know that Bush and gang has screwed up Iraq. What's your problem? If we are not going to send the needed number of troops, and let the generals run this war instead of the politicians, let's not waste any more of our troops lives.
What you see is a holding pattern in the battle of Iraq leading up to the battle of Iran, whether it be resolved diplomatically or militarily, therefore, you will not see an all out effort to prevail in Iraq as the natural conclusion would be an exit, thereby losing the advantage of the flank we now hold. As to the generals dissent, they are the generals, not the commander-in-chief nor the president whom decides national policy and strategy. While they are free to voice their difference of opinion, the final decison lies with the president and all in the military chain of command are subservient to him whether they agree or not. In most other countries, their fate would be a nineteen cent cartridge to the brain. We, of course, allow the dissenters to live in their glory or shame, which ever way the dice tumble. There was a major paradigm shift at the conclusion of the cold war whereby we entered a period of proxy confrontation. Do your research, then tell me about it.
What you see is a holding pattern in the battle of Iraq ...Ok then, this Memorial Day visit some of the graves of soldiers killed in Iraq and explain to them and their families that they were sent to die simply for a "holding pattern". Perhaps our troops should come home and you and G.W. go man the "holding pattern". Our troops risk their lives in war to achieve a victory, not a holding pattern.
Friday, May 25, 2007 11:58:00 AMThank you for that post Greggy! Quite a feat for someone with your ample stature to pat himself on the back...
You are trying to mix emotions to balance the cold, hard, fact that decisions have to be made in national strategy. While every casualty is an invaluable loss of potential and greatly missed by family, one must understand that those people gave their lives so that you and I have the life and liberty that they so valued that they gave their lives. The fact that Iraq is in a holding pattern in no way negates the sacrifice of our troops but gives an even greater foundation for success as we negotiate with the Iranians to end their nuclear proliferation by diplomacy or force and the willingness of our people to make the ultimate sacrifice is testament of our public will. I would say you would do our fallen soldiers a great disrespect to retreat, leaving the down payment in blood that they gave to be squandered in a less secure world. I take it seriously as you should think about a little more deeply before making slanderous remarks. Why don't you visit those soldiers families and ask them what course our nation should take?
If anyone wants proof of how terrible our local media is all you have to do is look at Michelle Godard's blog today. Yesterday someone copied and pasted on this blog an article from the AP which stated the VP of Cleco Kenneth Crump had sold 12400 shares. Godard says she did her own research and says there was no story there. She needs to go back to 2nd grade reading comprehension. She mistakes the size of pdf files for the amount of the stock sale. She thinks 15 kilobits is the same as 15 thousand dollars. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=CNLThe truth is NINE CLECO EXECUTIVES HAVE SOLD $4.1 MILLION IN STOCK IN TWO WEEKS.
"She thinks 15 kilobits is the same as 15 thousand dollars."Hahaahahahahahaahaahahaaa....Haahahahahahaahahahahahaha......Oh wait....HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAGee, I just shot milk through my nose....
;''I don't think you should be making fun of Michelle Goddard. You must remember that she was married to John Tudor. They say his John Henry looks like a baby arm holding an apple....I bet he was pulling out more than he was pushing in......Give the dame a break....she has had a HARD life.....;)
Anon May 26, 2007 2:49:00 PM , isn't there plenty to criticize Michelle and KALB on without showing your ignorance by being crude ? You are enough of a simpleton to get a job at Kalb.
One thing is for sure. You will never see KALB do any honest reporting on City of Pineville, CLECO or the Rapides Foundation.
" isn't there plenty to criticize Michelle and KALB on without showing your ignorance by being crude ? You are enough of a simpleton to get a job at Kalb."Geez Louise.....are you still upset over Michelle rejecting you at Prom????Look, it will be ok. Just let it gooooooooo.By the way...it was a simpleton that took her to the prom...and TAPPED THAT ASSSSSSS!!!!
They say his John Henry looks like a baby arm holding an apple....With your apparent interests in penis sizes, are you a homosexual or envious? Or do you lack the intelligence to discuss important topics and issues on here? You need to go to a perv blog, this one is for serious discussion.
What the hell happened to PJ's? You know Quint, a little notice would have been nice. My husband and I have spent on average around $10 a day there, every day for the last year and a half. Then you go and close the shop with no warning??? Thanks.
Youse guys are just no fun anymore.
Is (are) PJ's (and Quint) no more? Did those minority democrat coffee purveyors accross Jackson run him out of town? Harry and Chuck and Rick didn't take care of him.
god bless our military and veterans. peaceful americans can sleep well at night because brave men and women are willing to die for that cause. i so hate the american hating liberals in this country who's values are so relative and transactional that there is not a cause they would ever fight for to protect american interests.
peaceful americans can sleep well at night because brave men and women are willing to die for that cause. I slept well before we went into Iraq. I am sorry this Memorial Day, that our political leaders sent our brave troops into Iraq without a plan, appropriate armor or a sufficient number of troops. I am sorry that our politicians feel that they are capable to run a war, instead of our generals. Regardless of the folly of politicians, I do honor those that gave their lives for this country.
It is unfortunate that Biff, heretofore appearing rational despite his avid support of John Sams, is such a poor student of democracy that he accuses those that disagree with the very unfortunate course taken by our country in Iraq of not loving America. We, of the more liberal pursuasion, respect Biff's right to his misguided viewpoint and chalk it up to ignorance, not disloyalty.
One can be a Conservative and pro- military without being pro-Bush. One can even be a Republican and not be a Bush supporter.
Ultraconservative Repub. = regular moron
you put alot of thought into that one, idiot
Ok, all you Bush haters out there; put forth a plan...an honest-to-goodness plan to deal with the aftermath of a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq. All you armchair quarterbacks out there who so love bitching and throwing such great advice like "get out now" without the first thought of the chaos that will surely ensue with our departure. Whether you agree with the premise of our involvement, we're there now and if we leave now the country will be taken over by Iran and Syria and we'll be paying $10 or more a gallon for gas. Genocide will ensue which if you will recall is the reason Bubba Clinton engaged us in Bosnia and Kosova in the first place; and he promised we'd be there for a year or two. He and Al (the earth has a fever) Gore also advanced regime change in Iraq in 1998 as did many other countries.I guarantee if we leave now, we'll be back there in less than 5 years in a far more dangerous atmosphere than is there now.
Who says leave. Let the generals win the war in the old fashioned wat, by kicking some ass. Keep Bush and other politicians out of the mix. Lets the professionals deal with the war. Politicians should decide to go to war, but generals should decide with what and how much. If we are simply going to ass around, ala Vietnam, and let our troops be targets, then let's get the Hell out. Stay in only if we will commit to winning.
Quint! What happened? Where are you going? What will you do?
Quint,You & your family are in my prayers during this difficult time...
Wow, are we going to have to start watching Jerry Springer again? Where are all of the slander, unfounded rumors, and lies that this blog has become known for? And most of all, I miss the anonymous assholes who claim each other has no balls for not putting their names to their posts. We can only hope that the shit slinging resumes as the elections draw closer.
Holy Cow.....Was that Greg Aymond I saw coming out of Rick Farrar's fund raiser tonight at kees park????
Very doubtful HaHa.
YES, that was Aymonds.....He was even wearing a Rick Farrar t-shirt.....Of course, all you could read was IC ARRA....
I note with a chuckle that Michele has restricted postion on CenlaMedia to those that adore here. Apparently, her fluff piece on the Cleco sellout inspired lots of readers to berate her practices and question her intelligence. She always sounded very thin-skinned and insecure but this sort of cinches it.If she is just permitting those who love her to post, her "in box" must be very lonely.
Speaking of Farrar. I was watching the news last night and noted that Fields, Mayor of Pineville is supporting Farrar. I live just outside of Glenmora and if that guy is supporting Farrar then I for one am not supporting Farrar.
Well, Glenomora I am not surprised. The world has changed and Cleo doesn't carry the stroke he thought he once did. In fact his kiss of support could be the kiss of death for anyone who wants to jump on his alcohol band wagon. They make a good match based upon Ricks cozy contributors the Beer industry.
I find it interesting that Farrar left the house to go announce his re-election while the house was deciding the fate of the state's budget. They didn't adjourn until 6:50 last night and it appears he was home in time for the 6 PM announcement. What's more important - face time with constituents or the $29 Billion plus budget.
Traveling on Jackson St. this morning and there were 2 fire hyrants wide open and pouring water down the street and in to the gutters. No firemen or city workers in sight, water just flowing away. 2 questions, what is the purpose of this waste of water and what does it cost the city to waste so much water? Just maybe our utility bill would be a little lower if waste such as this did not exist.
almost like Mayor Fields being at a court hearing to keep people from getting records rather than attending a hearing on preserving voters wishes regarding alcohol in Pineville. These politicians are nothing more than parasites......get someone to look it up for you Cleo
Regarding the fire hydrant - I don't know all of the technicalities involved, but you may telephone AFD Fire Alarm HQ 441-6600 & get an answer - then report it back here.I believe it has to do w/maintenance however... this is done on a somewhat regular basis.
A few weeks ago, the fire hydrants'flow was being checked for our fire rating. I noticed some brown water, and called and was so informed by the water department. Additionally, hydrants are also opened to clear the waterlines, especially to help clean out dead-end lines. I thinks that maybe opening such hydrants may also be part of peiodic fire drills.
Naggin Nagin running for governor!!He's dreaming! There may be enough ignorant voters in New Orleans to reelect this fool but he can't fool enough voters in the state. I still have a hard time believing he got enough votes from the people of New Orleans but then again, I didn't think they were fool enough to reelect him this time. Goes to prove, you can fool some of the people, yada yada yada.Just tried to post this at cenlamedia but it's reserved for "team members" now. La de da!
>>Just tried to post this at cenlamedia but it's reserved for "team members" now. La de da!<<I love it! Our ever-professional local media doing their bestest...I'd like to say I'll quit watching KALB but I loves me some Tom.
I wonder how many non-emplotees of KALB are on that team of Michelle's?
I don't know if she has any employees left. Most of them are leaving or have left already. The geniuses who run KALB need to decide if they want her or if they want real reporters and an audience. Her blog proves she has no idea what is newsworthy and no idea of how to be a critical journalist. It's a complete joke and an embarrassment. Did anyone else read the delusional post about conducting a video blog with Edwin Edwards? What's going on with this woman?
Godard's main problem is that she cannot understand the basics of the media and the service it provides to the area it reaches. As news director she should know that the aim of local news broadcasts is to fill in the public with accurate stories that focus on local problems and events. These stories then lead to more viewers which in turn leads to ad revenue. From what I have seen of Godard she understands none of this. The best example is the Edwin Edwards post she made recently. Does she honestly think she is so important that Edwards reads her blog from jail? Does she even believe she rates the attention of Edwards who would easily invite an interview from a Baton Rouge station? I find it absurd that she cannot figure out her role in the media nor deduce that she is not of the level of importance she believes herself to be. Her hubris shows how out of touch she is with the world at large. Requesting, no BEGGING, an interview with a former governor who is imprisoned at this time shows a lack of moral tact and I agree on other posters belief in the onset of delusion in Michele's case. No professional journalist begs for an interview on a third rate blog and no real journalist refuses to cover a major story because she lacks simple reading comprehension. The best she can do is hope someone above her is owed a favor. She can't get the interview on her own if she tried. That'd take actual work. You know, the kind that reporters she cuts would do.KALB seriously needs to examine her role and either remove her from staff or drop her from role of news director. So far our local broadcasts are mostly filler with fluff pieces that have no bearing on the average citizen of this area. On top of this, Godard's blog shows that she cannot report on the news nor investigate ledes with any accuracy or thought. I would believe she spends most of her time looking up tomorrows recipes for Jambalaya instead of focusing on the real issues of Alexandria. The further question is: What do you expect from the local media when it oftentimes cannot get the facts straight and is led by a woman who cares more about her hair than news. Primping does not make you look intelligent, Michele, no matter how much you prepared for your videoblogs. Hell, you had to get outsiders to give you questions instead of thinking that up yourself. I did that on a daily basis without anyone elses help.
Is there such a thing as balance on this blog. Michele is a poor journalist and an even poorer manager and that explains what she is doing in Alexandria, however, I don't see the rationalle behind personally attacking her. Early on, folks kept saying that we can see her viewpoint on TV and the value of the site was to have her listen to our thoughts, concerns, and questions. She said she agreed and promised that if we talked she would listen. She simply broke that promise. Grow up. People lie to us all the time.
She simply broke that promise. Grow up. People lie to us all the time. And we should simply tolerate that?
Again, grow up! What do you want to do - exact some sort of revenge? Michele has graciously shown us what she is and what she does and how she operates and has hurt no one but herself and her employer. And remember, she has reminded us on numerous occassions that we hold the remote and if we are unhappy with her product, flip that channel. Good advice. I follow it more and more. when their rating numbers turn to shit minus 8, and the owners and investers wonder what happened, someone will surely tell them that the news director told the public to fuck off.
PJ's had been for sale for 9 months. We had someone looking at it in the last month. We did not proclaim our "drop dead" date in order to make a smooth transistion for the new owners. They backed off thinking I'd drop the price. Pulled the plug. There is no difficult time to consider. Due to Sarah and our move (we sold our home and moved to a much larger house) and all the other items that make up my list, we decided to get out of the cafe and allow me to pursue things more inclined to me.Funny but true statement ... my electric bill was more often than not higher than my rent, everyone said there was a problem but there was never an in depth investigation ... can't wait to see my "rebate"Quint
Rep Gary Beard is announcing he will run against Mitch Landrieu for Lt. Gov according to Bayou Buzz. Interesting thing is he is caught in the middle of the LA Film Tax Credit scandal. Wonder what kind of impact that will have on his announcement now? It's bad enough Nagin actually thinks he has a viable chance of being Governor of this state, and that people in New Orleans put him into office, but now we have a state representative, who thought he could use his position to receive tax credits meant to benefit comapnies creating jobs and investment in this state, is now part of the federal investigation being carried out by the FBI and thinks he can be Lt. Gov. What a state we live in!
I beg to differ, Godard is hurting us, by not fulfilling her duties as a news director and seeing to it that we stay informed. Personal attacks are not appropriate, attacks on her job performance are valid. Anything that we can say or do to get better news reporting is fair game.
Personal attacks - like she is a bubble head or other comments about her gender or former husband - are not called for - that I will agree with. However, she is doing us a disservice by NOT PERFORMING HER JOB. First and foremost as a news director. Second as a female executive, she is fueling the fire that women can't make hard core decisions.Perhaps she or KALB has given into the Roy administration just as it was rumored Cenla Broadcasting did when a certain DJ was taken off the air and perhaps could explain why Billy Gunn is no longer on City Council duty.
Michelle Goddard and KALB are a joke. If you do not know that then you haven't lived here long. In the 50's when Willard Kolb owned KALB and lived in Alexandria it was a top notch station. After Kolb died it began it's decline to what it is today, simply a profit center for some large organization.Ditto for The Town Talk. When owned by the wife of Joe. D. Smith and run by Smith the TT was top notch. Smith son took less of an interest than dad. Paper started down then and now is a profit center for Gannet.Profit Center = hire the cheapest employees who cannot get a job anywhere else.
We disagree. I think Michele has an obligation and a duty but not to us. to her employer. KALB is obviously satisfied with her performance, her professionalism, her output, and her "change the channel" attitude. I have taken her advice. I am tired of announcers who don't speak English or have an understanding of the info they are reading and I am tired of going to their web site and being constantly attacked by that fucking ford dealership spot. We need to accept Michele's challenge and live without them.
"We Saw That" had an interesting posting about the DAs office recently. Wonder if he is also going to do any investigating WHY the DA has not taken any action on a file he has on his desk involving a LOCAL city alderman. Wonder if the fact that one of his employees is also an alderman for the same town? Wonder why he would not send the file to the Atty Gen on that one????? Wonder what part that towns Mayor has had in helping this alderman (who is not a big fan of the Mayor) out in hopes that he will run for a parish office and allow that Mayor to select a more 'friendly " replacement. Info comin from the inside.... More to come. where are you WE SAW THAT on this one?? WHERE are you MICHELE? WHERE ARE YOU TOWN TALK???
Oh, and by the way, I'm not Greg Aymond. Don't be fooled by the fact that I talk like Greg and whine like Greg and obscess about the exact same things that Greg does and sign in as "anonymous" like Greg to support my own innane rant. Because I'm not Greg Aymond.
Are these what you are talking about? At Friday, June 23, 2006 12:00:14 PM, Anonymous said...Is it also true that a certain Pineville City Counselman who may ormay not also serve as a reservist attempted to trade fixing a ticketwith "hooking up " with a married woman ? WHY hasnt that beenreported , if true? At Friday, June 23, 2006 6:43:53 AM, Anonymous said...Is it true that a Pineville City Councilman, who is also a reservepolice officer for Pineville, was arrested last weekend forthreatening to dunk some black children in the river, if they didnttell him who stole his property? Did he then drive over toAlexandria to threaten more youths? If this is true, why is it beingcovered up? Instead of speaking in riddles, give some facts, names and dates and maybe somebody can check it out. However, you must realize that our DA and AG decide who NOT to prosecute and hold equally accountable to the law as us regular people.
It isn't a good sign when News Director herself types "I'll be it" instead of "albeit". Good for a chuckle, though.
If the story is true about the elected officials threatening the black children then where is the outcry from the black community and more important why isnt the media covering it?
The Norm for this DA is to do whatever is best for the politician and if letting the case sit on his desk and do nothing on it is best then that is what he will do.
We all need to be honest about Godard and KALB. Anyone who read the insider trading reports on Cleco knows that nine executives sold more stock in a two week period than had been legitimately sold in two years combined. The woman embarrassed herself and her news station by completely misreporting the story and saying it wasn't news. She also proved she doesn't know how to investigate news. The K in kilobits doesn't mean the same thing as the K in finance, and Godard never corrected or explained herself. She cited a bunch of documents and never even read them herself. She needs to be fired.
Ah, but she did ask Cleco if there was any cause for concern, and reported that they said no. What more do you want from her investigative skills? I heard she is seeking another "credible" opinion from several former Enron executives.
You have seen her interview, her reports, her campaign and debate coverage, and read her posts, and you continue to be amazed at her lack of depth, intelligence, and work ethic. How can that be?
I hear Chris Hazel is now on the Slocum ticket....Is Rick on his way out??????What will he do next?
I hates me some Tom when he just babbles on and on and interrupting my regular programming with the same shit he could be scrolling across the screen. He just loves to hear himself talk!!
If that race is decided on the quality of the lawyer or character or personality, Rick needs to be moving his stuff home.
Michelle's last 5 posts = NO COMMENTS. Where is her team ? LOL
How the hell can you get ON her team in the first place?
"I hear Chris Hazel is now on the Slocum ticket...."If everyone that votes for Slocum (in District 27) pulls the Hazel lever............It will be a lopsided Hazel victory!
heard today of another candidate in ricks race
"....It will be a lopsided Hazel victory!"Farrar's defeat will just be the beginning....Fields (who openly supports Farrar..as seen at his fundraiser the other night) will be next! The people in district 27 and more particularly Pineville, are ready for a change....
"The people in district 27 and more particularly Pineville, are ready for a change...."Should read "The people who write on this blog and more particularly people from Pineville who write on this blog are ready for a change."
"Should read "The people who write on this blog and more particularly people from Pineville who write on this blog are ready for a change."Unemployed is unemployed regardless of who writes on what blog.Farrar and Fields will soon be crying in their beer....UNFORTUNATELY, it will probably be within the Pineville city limits....maybe at the BMX track?????
"Should read "The people who write on this blog and more particularly people from Pineville who write on this blog are ready for a change."Hey, Jimmy....what are you worried about?????Don't you have the Indian Casino gig to fall back on?????You don't need that Pineville money THAT bad, do ya????Hell, it can't be that much anyway....I mean, what did you bill for getting your ass stomped by Aymonds?????
"We all need to be honest about Godard and KALB. a bigger story is that while we are working our asses off to pay these overpriced utility bills CLECO has enough money to give stock in millions to their employees.
Hey idiot,if you could read the documents, you would see the stock options have been regularly given out over years. Anyone with an ounce of business knowledge knows options are a routine part of pay packages for virtually all corporate executives. It's business 101. That's the problem. Our supposed "intelligentsia" posting on webs aren't even smart enough to check their own facts by reading fairly simple documents. You people are pathetic.
Listen Cleco damage control, this isn't going to go away by insulting the few people who actually know the difference between employees being given stock options and employees all cashing out their options in a two week period. I know more than enough about Business 101. I have a Masters in Business Administration.Anyone who looks at the history of insider transactions at Cleco during the past two years knows that this is suspicious, and instead of calling people idiots, you should be explaining why your executives all suddenly felt the need to sell huge portions of their Cleco stock portfolio.Tell your shareholders why this happened. They deserve the truth.
I think the shareholders should know the specifics of why you are your brood are selling stock left and right. What do you obviously have to hide and why are you so afraid? There is a substantial amount of transactions (up to 70 percent of some peoples Cleco stock) that are being dumped left and right. It doesn't take a Business 101 class to see that you guys are having problems. In fact, the dumping of stock only shows your lack of faith in the direction of the company. Are you afraid of an eventual collapse after the public learns about the specifics of the case in court? How about the general distrust the public will have in Cleco after shows the monumental fuckup of insider trading becomes more public.Good luck with the Enron, Cleco spokesman!
Today's Town Talk made mention of PJ's closing. I thought Quint sold or transferred it. What will he do now?Another observation: Reporter's Notebook, a creation of and for Billy Gunn, was again Gunn-free and attributed to "Town Talk Staff". Folks keep hinting and suggesting reasons for Gunn's absence but we don't have any real answers. What is happening to Billy Gunn, where is he, and will he be back?
Billy Guinn was pulled from his city duty because of a falling out with Roy.
That's a big price for Town Talk readers to pay for Gunn's talent and journalistic integrity. Is Roy a prima dona? Does anyone know the nature of the disagreement?
That's a big price for Town Talk readers to pay for Gunn's talent and journalistic integrity. What bullshit. Gunn was is probably awol to attend a dying out seesion or for his imcompetence. lol
Disagreements between a mayor and a reporter are seldom a result of the reporter saying nice things about the mayor. It usually means that the reporter figured out and disclosed information that the mayor might find politically unfavorable. Roy has hired at least two people whose job is to paint him pretty. With Roy's apparent ego, it ain't easy. Remember that he had a radio personality fired for hurting Roy's feelings about Sam Jam.
IS ANYONE TAKING CARE OF the PEOPLE OF CITY OF PINEVILLE????????Neighbors want to tackle litter problem in RapidesBy Karina Donica firstname.lastname@example.org (318) 487-6342 Picking up an empty bottle here and a cigarette butt there has never been a problem for a group of Rapides Parish residents. For years they've worked to keep their neighborhoods clean.Recently, however, it seems they're losing the fight to keep garbage off the streets and out of yards; for each piece of trash they pick up, appliances or broken furniture appear somewhere else.Especially on the back streets, which judges of the annual Cleanest City contest seldom see. There, litter is getting out of hand. So, they're regrouping. The Neighborhood Leaders Network, a grass-roots organization based in Alexandria and formed by residents from across Rapides Parish, has scheduled a public meeting from noon to 1 p.m. on June 26 at the Main Street Community Center at 910 Main St. in Pineville. There, they'll discuss the establishment of a "litter court.""We already have a fathering court for fathers who don't pay child support, we have a drug court, we have a traffic court "» so all we want is to root for help to set up a littering court in our parish," said Angelina Iles, president of the group.Iles has for more than a year been researching and following closely how litter courts work in other parishes, which reduce the litter.Litter courts work similar to traffic courts whereby a law enforcement officer issues a citation. The court relies heavily on the public to crack down on offenders and report them via a hot line.As in many parishes, Rapides Parish has an ordinance that authorizes justices of the peace to handle litter cases, so all that's needed is to act on that, she said."We've gotten comfortable with the way we live, and gradually we have accepted it. Our society now has accepted neglect," Iles said. The cities of Monroe and Lafayette as well as Grant and Natchitoches parishes have effective courts, she said.Chuck Evans, justice of the peace for Grant Parish, has been invited as a guest speaker at the upcoming meeting.Winnie G. Marshall, of Alexandria and a member of the group, said she hopes needed support can be found here."It would instill a sense of pride in people because they would know that the community they live in cares," Marshall said. The neighbors say a big problem is people who don't pay for garbage pick up and find it convenient to drop refuse in a blighted area or an empty lot, which gradually becomes a dumpster.Woodrow "Woody" Holmes, a longtime resident of the parish, agrees. He has seen empty lots near his home become a landfill."All we ask is to keep it clean. We are tired of it. It's embarrassing to have your family and friends come and visit," Holmes said.Iles said having a litter court parishwide would address areas more vulnerable to litter, such as neighborhoods out of the city limits. At the meeting, one topic of discussion will be costs of setting up the court. Not acting now will eventually cost the communities more because potential businesses and home buyers would stay away from a filthy neighborhood, Marshall said.Litter also decreases property values for current homeowners, she said.
Looks like only way to get attention to anything is to expose it to the press. It works in Pineville
Here is the masthead on CenlaMedia:CenlaMediaYou know who we are. We're the ones that let you down by not reporting the stories you want to see. We are all ears. Tell us what to ask and how to hold the powerful accountable. We are ready to listen.
Wow you folks are so powerful word on the street has Billy Gunn and Michele Godard quitting the business. Good going guys!
Goddard (is that how you spell it or not?) has been quitting her job for years now. Just look at her profile, she is a mother first. What a joke.
At least we have Babbling Babs.
I just heard that Garbage Trucks are out at the site where the news story had photos this morning. Whoever said that Pineville only responds to media attention was right. Cleaned up within a few hours after the newspaper reported it. Shame our media doesn't report more.
Wow, I think we are already missing Gunn. And of course, we will miss the attentive ear of that always-interested-and-responsive-and-sensitive-to-the-public's-right-to-know moron from KALB. Wouldn't it be frightening if Rosevelt had been the smartest one at channel 5?
"Cold Cash" Jefferson IndictedWASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., was indicted Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money-laundering in a long- running bribery investigation into business deals he tried to broker in Africa. The indictment handed up in federal court in Alexandria., Va., Monday is more than an inch thick and list 16 alleged violations of federal law that could keep Jefferson in prison for up to 200 years. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8PI589G0&show_article=1
rDoes any one know who the new reporter for the COA beat would be. The TT has been advertising the position. I would tell it like it is....Pleeeaase hire me!!Curious
r Where did that come from? Not a very good job recommendation!I guess I would fit right in!!!Ms Curious
Is the Town Talk actually advertising for this position or are you assuming the position is open because Gunn changed his beat?
Anonymous This is true!It was in the TT and also on the internet job site. Honest, My hand raised... I swear! No Joke.Curious is my name.
Billy Gunn has supposedly been "promoted" from city hall beat reporter. It's no secret he and roy did not see eye to eye. We now have Tom Bonnette. He is not going to dig for anything. He will not ruffle feathers. And YES, there has been an ad running in the paper. I saw it a few Sundays ago.KALB news has been come fluff and stuff. They have no news - they are no longer on our side - out in the neighborhoods getting the real story on why things happen.
Boy, what a great job! Sit through all of the council meetings, have someone tell you what you can and cannot write (can't write the truth), worry constantly about how NOT to piss of the mayor, then worry about how quickly you will get yanked if you do piss him off, all for not even enough money to pay your utility bill! Sign me up!
Did anyone else think it strange that mayor Roy took a few of his staff (including Lamar, I hear) to Florida for a "working" vacation???
"Did anyone else think it strange that mayor Roy took a few of his staff (including Lamar, I hear) to Florida for a "working" vacation???"Yes! Sound the alarms! The mayor went on vacation! Sound the alarms! What are we going to do? Lamar's down there too! They're working!!!! What are we going to do????
Gunn seems like a nice guy... but he *did* botch some figures pretty badly back when the utility rate hoopla was at its worst. I read the TT's retractions anyways if none of y'all did. Conspiracy theory away, but maybe it was simply that?
What about the permenant vacation Randolph took during his last two terms? He never seemed to be around...
at least they earned their vacation.
"Gunn seems like a nice guy... but he *did* botch some figures pretty badly back when the utility rate hoopla was at its worst."First-So what Gunn botched some numbers? The TT screws shit up ALL THE TIME. I am no big fan of conspiracy theroies but that reason is idiotic.Second-"the utilty rate hoopla" as you refer to it makes it pretty apparent that you work for the administration...Yo are simply using number one of "The Three Ds Technique" the administration is so fond of. . .1. Discount (importance or seriousness of situation)2. D3. DAnyone care to guess what number 2 and 3 are? This is probably on the agenda for the "Lie in the Sun" training program.
Billy, is that you?
The Mayor is supposed to be at some lawyer conference - why does Lamar and his staff need to attend a legal conference? For that matter why does the Mayor since he is supposed to be a Mayor, not a lawyer any longer?
Do de turm "junket" rang a bell?
since he is supposed to be a Mayor, not a lawyer any longer? Where does it say that? He can be a full time mayor and still keep his license to practice law.
Ned also did that.
I hear after he gets back that he is going to the National Caucasian Mayors conference. Anything wrong with that?
you bee meaning the Knational Kaucasion mayors Konfurence?????
Michelle Goddard at "Cenla Media" websited has now resorted to listing a bevy of "Cool Sites" on her blog....I guess since she now realizes that she can't be Diane Sawyer, she will resort to being Martha Stewart........gee.....
All those people and organizations are on Michele's team.I read the masthead you someone quoted on here. She is such an absolute fraud.
