If that true, Tommy can legally give her gifts now, unlike when he was getting City business from her.

That's completely untrue. My mom is done with politix. Actually, she applauds Jacques for the way he stands up to the council and wishes him continued success.

People forget that Alexandria is our home. We should always get behind our public servants (with the exception of the corrupt) and support their efforts to make Alex and better place to raise our children.

I been in Nawlins fo the past week and I firmly believe that it has now become the center of the universe for lunacy and incompetence. While the Corps of Engineers is scratching their watches and winding their asses, Nagin and Dollar Bill Jefferson are of the opinion that Nawlins is the powerhouse of our state and our opinion of Louisiana affairs matters not since we are evidently "rural folk". Yep, I did here that opinion espoused more than once over the last few days. What I cannot figure out is how folks that are so dumb, can be so arrogant. 480,000 divided by 4.8 mil is 10 % which is the portion of our state population that they comprise. My figurin says they is outnumbered. Maybe that is why so many of lately have been bring knives to a gunfight.

Anonymous said...

Some of the N.O. folks aren't very good at figurin'. Many still think N.O. should get every penny of state money...way beyond hurricane recovery. But, the state has changed forever. New Orleans' recovery (which I hope goes well) will be slow going. Baton Rouge will continue to explode and other major cities, such as Alexandria are going to continue to grow and prosper. The N.O. folks would do better to check the attitude of the past at the door of the Capitol. They ain't the only game in the state no more.

some of you people are amazing. geeze louise. roy has a very tough row to hoe, and to be slamming his efforts to date seems way premature. from my perspective, he is putting in the time, and his heart is in the right place, and the least you should do is give him some time. the problems he is facing did not crop up yesterday. i hate to inform you, but reality is not a 30 minute tv show during which all issues are resolved. we elected him, now give him a chance. that aside, he has not once mentioned a water slide, and if that doesn't change pronto, i am leading a recall petition.

'Save The Park' meeting set for Thursday in Alexandria

The Garden District Neighborhood Foundation will hold a "Save the Park" meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alexandria Public Safety Complex, 1000 Bolton Ave.

Word of the meeting is being spread through fliers being circulated in the Garden District.

The meeting is to discuss Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital's proposal for the hospital to purchase about eight of the 11-acre Alexandria Youth Complex on Masonic Drive as part of an $85 million expansion.

The plan has drawn opposition from some residents in that area.

Anonymous said...

The plan by Christus St. Frances Hospital to purchase a portion of the Youth Ball Complex in Alexandria's City Park has drawn opposition from residents from all parts of the city, not just nearby neighborhoods. This is a city-wide issue. I hope everyone wishing to express their thoughts on this issue will attend the meeting Thursday night. The Garden District Associatioin is sponsoring the event, but every one should go. Our city council should be made aware of the feelings of our city's citizens on this matter.

Yikes! Sorry about the mispelling in the previous post!

My guess: the previous blue-haired crone poster doesn't want the hosp. to buy anything that she doesn't list and make a commission on.

foneeee!

Anonymous said...

One need not be a blue hair or a realtor to oppose the sale to Cabrini.

Is the double first name for the blue hairs a social tradition throwback to anti-bellum days. Rae Belle and and such seems like the lady up to the big house name. brings to mind mint juleps, fancy bawls, slaves, etc.

According to Mayor Fields speaking on KSYL yesteday, he used City Time and City Money , drove a City Vehicle using City gas to travel to and to attend the NATIONAL BLACK MAYORS CONFERENCE . Seriously, does no one other than me find that disturbing? Here is an organization that by its very name is racially exclusive and then to take time that he is own the City of Pineville payroll to attend and then to use City of Pineville tax dollars for conference costs, hotels, food entertainment etc. What plausible justification can there be for spending taxpayer moeny for that. If it were a White Mayor do you not think there would be an uproar if the shoe were on the other foot and that Mayor when to a WHITE MAYORS ONLY Conference?.... This is unbelievable. Can't take time to attend to City Business but can make time to listen to Jessie Jackson and Hillary Clinton with other racially exclusive participants.

Anonymous said...

He is a black Mayor in a city of only 20% minorities makes sense that he would go to a Black Mayors conference. I would love to hear the list of benefits that he says the Citizens of Pineville get from him vacationing with this friends.

Anonymous said...

Ok, other than bitch on this blog, what do any of you plan to do about it? Are you even a Pineville voter?

Anonymous said...

According to their literature the National Black Mayors Conference is designed to help African American Mayors govern "communities of Color". Pineville??????
The Important speakers that were to appear at the conference include "prominent influencers scheduled to appear at the Convention include: Prime Minister Portia Simpson of Jamaica; renowned actor Danny Glover; author, academic and radio host Dr. Michael Eric Dyson; athlete and entrepreneur Earvin Magic Johnson; and singer/actor Harry Belafonte. The conference will also feature entertaining performances by musicians Erykah Badu and John Legend, and comedian Rickey Smiley. "

WOW, I feel good about where my tax dollars went.

Anonymous said...

Danny Glover , Magic Johnson and Harry Belefone are certainly role models that I want our tax dollars to have gone to. I am sure glad that our hard earned tax dollars went to pay for those men to appear for Mayor Fields conference.

You will recall that Michele Godard reported on her blog that she checkeed with Susan Broussard, of Cleco, and was informed that all is well. Michele said there was no story here.
Maybe KALB should fire Michele and hire WeSawThat as its news director?

Anonymous said...

Did the Mayor spend tax payers money to go to this Black Mayors Conference with or without City Council approval? How can we find out?

Anonymous said...

The poster at 6:48 AM branded me a "blue haired" real estate broker. I am neither. I am a 60 year old white male with very premature grey hair. I made my money the old fashioned way. I inherited it. But I do oppose the sale of any of City Park to Cabrini Hospital. Cabrini had the chance to buy the Aiken School property. Yet Cabrini didn't even bid on that property. Stephen Wright's two explanations for that were, if not out right deceitful, lame at best. He first stated the hospital knew doctors wanted the property to build a clinic. Later he stated the hospital didn't have the money at the time. Yea, right! The doctors needed several acres to build a clinic! The hospital didn't have $1.2 million about two years ago, but now can afford an $85 million dollar expansion! Some poor decisions have been made by Cabrini. But the children of Alexandria should not suffer by the loss of City Park area.

Anonymous said...

YES I am a Pineville Voter. And Yes I too want to know if our City Council voted to spend our tax dollars to send Mayor Clarence Fields to the Black Mayors conference and if so how much.

Anonymous said...

maybe the question that should be asked is did any of the Council or members of his staff go with the Mayor to the Black Mayors Conference on our dime.

Anonymous said...

Its a classis liberal/Greenpeace clan against progressive/economic expansion advocates right here in little Alexandria. Where's the popcorn?

Anonymous said...

I note that Michele has posted an apologia on her site, assuring us that she is still interested in what we have to say but will no longer permit us to post on her blog, but rather, prefers to rely on the time tested process of "mind meld" to learn what is troubling us.

She is a complete fraud.

Anonymous said...

And family members. Does the Pineville City Council pay for family members to go to the Black Mayor Conference too? Joey Bishop says he is running for Police Jury. As a City Councilman did he approve City of Pineville tax payer money being spent on Black Mayors Conference?

Anonymous said...

First of all, Michele is going to allow posts, just not anonymous ones who only want to belittle her.

Second, this black mayors conference was host to the likes of Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte, both of whom have played nice with Hugo Chavez and that turns my stomach! They both should have their citizenship revoked.

Anonymous said...

Actor Danny Glover was recently filmed smiling as he stood with an arm draped over the shoulder of Hugo Chavez, the tyrannical president of Venezuela. Chavez is a man who had the audacity to stand on American soil and call our leader Satan. What was even more disturbing was the applause Chavez received after making this outrageous comment.

Greenpeace Liberals versus Economic Expansion! I guess you are referring to the Cabrini Hospital plan to buy some of Alexandria's City Park. Are you saying if Cabrini doesn't get the Youth Ball Park Complex, it will cease to expand? You must be some stupid, naive or directly linked to Cabrini Hospital. Just remember, Cabrini had several opportunties to buy privately owned properties for it's expansion. The City of Alexandria has no opportunities to replace any open area in such a central location of town.

Anonymous said...

what greenspace are you talking about? The big island is not included. are you talking about the ballparks that arent be used? why all the concern now about greenspace?

Anonymous said...

So mamas and daddys hard earned money has been given to our fantastic Mayor so that he can ditch the job he was hired to do AND paid to do so that he can go to the Black Mayors Conference and support people with his presence and OUR money like Danny Glover and Chavez. If the sleepy town of Pineville is not figuring out who we have as a leader by now it never will.

Anonymous said...

I am talking about all of City Park! And where do you get the idea that the Youth Ball Park Complex is not being used? Have you driven by there in the last few days?

Anonymous said...

Hey, do you think Cabrini will be satisfied buying just eight acres of City Park? Stephen Wright has already admitted that Cabrini has plans to build three buildings on the ball park property, despite presenting us with a plan showing only one building on the site. When all three buildings are built, doesn't it seem logical that Cabrini will again need more parking space? And where will that come from? The nearest open area is "Big Island". And more and more people are using "Big Island" for recreational activities! Cabrini can expand it's "campus"(Stephen Wright's favorite word) westward along Masonic Drive!

Anonymous said...

Cabrini would be prohibited from buying Big Island because the family who donated the land smartly stipulated the land HAD to be used for recreation ONLY. No permanent structures. Just open green space. Big Island is actually more protected than anything else.

Anonymous said...

Cabrini ground-breaking took place today on Masonic Drive but the TT doesn't say WHERE on Masonic Drive. Does anyone know specifics? I'm hoping it is directly across Masonic Drive from their present location.

I went to the court house and reviewed the state district court proceedings and saw that the chairman for the board of directors at Cleco, Patrick Garrett, and another director, Westbrook, were recently subpoenaed for depositions. It is after they were subpoenaed they unloaded all that stock. Strange??? you tell me.

Does anyone still think that Cleco has clean hands in all this mess? They have a damn monopoly, but still have to waste our money to advertise to tell us that "We are here for you!" Give me a break and dont insult my intelligence.

The bigger question is why hasn't the local media looked at this issue of the unloading of Cleco stock by Cleco's higher-ups???? It is obvious that something is happening in the sleepy bedroom town of Pineville (besides a high school dropout named Dupree with a GED running the city), and I suspect we will hear from the city of Alex. in the near future that they are withdrawing from the mediation and will release the findings of the independent audit. Once these finding are released, I hope to see Mike Madison ride up in his strecth limo and drop off a check to the city for whatever amount, plus interest, to the city. After all, thats what he said he would do in his letter to the Clown Talk last year.

Sieg Heil Herr Aymonds! Your posts show us your clear admiration of Joseph Goebbels.

We already know of your love for white sheets and burning crosses.

Anonymous said...

Aymonds seems to be extremely jealous of African Americans and resents being excluded from their activities. I have petitioned the city council to have him ordained an honorary negro. He is already over half way there because nobody wants to even think about him marrying their daughters. I will keep you informed.

Anonymous said...

To the person that said the ball parks on Masonic Drive are not being used: Maybe you should go the parks after 5:00 p.m. on any weekday and you will discover that ball games are being played there every night. Several hundred children play ball there and at least that many parents and relatives are there watching the games.

Of course if you go by there during the day, there is little or no activity because the games are played in the evening. But I guess if you are involved with Cabrini, you only want to get away from there as quickly as possible and do not take the time to smell the roses or watch the children play.

Anonymous said...

I say piss on Cabrini, let them buy privately owned property like anybody else. If the Cabrini deal goes through, I may try to rent office space in City Hall. And don't blow smoke up my ass and tell me the benefits to me by having Canrini, as the last time I was there I paid mighty well for the privelege. If Cabrini shuts its doors, I will simply go to Rapides.

Anonymous said...

Will there be a meeting of the neighborhood clan tonight? Aren't most of the leaders of the group outside the G8 summit?

Anonymous said...

I think Aymond has a point on this one though. Its RACIST if a white person goes to a Caucasian only conference and even worse if he had the City pay for it with tax dollars. BUT if a black man goes to a BLACKS only Conference its ok. That is wrong and almost criminal to use taxpayers money to fund it. So, don't particularly agree with much this Aymond says but he is absolutely right to be against this BLACK MAYORS get together..Its Racist pure and simple.

Anonymous said...

What if "networking" with other black mayors provides constructive solutions to certain Pineville problems. Then it would be a good thing.

As long as the Aymonds of this world keep reminding him he is black, he will have special problems that will require special approaches and solutions.

In large part, we need to thank people like Aymond for keeping racial polarity alive and well. And for those of you who credit Aymond with reforming and turning from his KKK mentality, all you need to do is check out his blog and you will see all of the white insecurity and racial spite you need to understand "what Aymond is".

Anonymous said...

I am sure that Fields got a lot of networking done listening to Jessie Jackson, Danny Glover , Magic Johnson and Harry Belefonte. All great role models and great Americans. This was a paid vacation pure and simple. I would like to hear of ONE single benefit the citizens of Pineville got for such foolish wasting of taxpayers money. If he wants to find solutions perhaps he should stay more in Pineville and start running the City instead of delegating his duties to others who have less experience than even him. I want to know how much he spent of our tax dollars on this racist conference.

Pineville..Crime Free?

Frustrated robbers take personal effects of restaurant employees
Pineville police are looking for three men who robbed employees of the Huddle House restaurant at gunpoint shortly after midnight today.
According to Police Lt. Greg Henley, the men came to rob the restaurant but were thwarted by the manager’s inability to open the safe.

Henley said three men wearing scarves over their faces and garbage bags over their clothes entered the restaurant and gathered the four employees in one area.

The men, at least one and possibly all of whom were armed, tried to force the manager to open the safe but ended up taking the purses and wallets of the employees, he said.

He said the manger was pistol whipped by one of the robbers but did not require medical attention.

Police believe the men had a getaway vehicle, but it was not seen. The men ran from restaurant into the woods behind it, he said.

The restaurant sits just to the west of U.S. Highway 165 on Mary Hill Road at Kingsville.

DIVIDE AND CONQUER

Two meetings tonight to focus on proposal for hospital to buy Youth Complex site; public invited

The public is invited to two meetings tonight to discuss Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital construction that could pave over current Alexandria parks.

Cabrini officials are hosting an open forum at 6 p.m. today at the Broadway Resource Center on Broadway Avenue, where the public is encouraged to express their views. Cabrini officials did not say what time the meeting would conclude.

At 6:30 p.m., the Garden District Neighborhood Foundation will hold another meeting on the proposed Cabrini expansion. The meeting will be held at the Alexandria Public Safety Complex at 1000 Bolton Ave.

Cabrini is planning an $85 million expansion and needs to purchase land. Hospital officials have proposed buying the Alexandria Youth Complex on Masonic Drive.

Anonymous said...

while they are down off broadway discussing cabrini maybe they can ask the residents down there why they absolutely destroyed the ball parks off willow glen road that the city completely refurbished a few years back.

Anonymous said...

The word is that the city council is aware that that the middle class white community is opposed to sale of the park property and this is the council's way of showing that population that they are no longer in charge or even merit consideration. Cabrini will let Chuck and Harry vote against the sale because they don't need their votes and they can save face. I don't know where Roy is on this deal but he sure seems to being going along with the Hosp. and the council.

Anonymous said...

why does everyone blame jacques roy for anything that goes wrong in alexandria? that seems unfair. is he not holding meetings in order to gain input from the citizens of our city?

there is a great website to be read by anyone who is anyone in cenla:

the town talk finally reported on cleco, but there will be more in the future.

Anonymous said...

Miss Devore, it is not fair. I wish people would just stop blaming Jacques Roy for everything. I for one am getting sick of it.

Anonymous said...

Sorry you are upset, but, what if it is Jacques' fault. Is it OK to hold him responsible for the damages he does to our city?

If you listen to the administration discussion of the Cabrini proposal, it is very easy to get the impression that this is Roy-driven. He appears to be busting his ass to sell it to the people. He sounds far from neutral. Do you disagree with my view ?

Anonymous said...

Notherphonylady, please give us a public statement or a press release to support your accusation. I think he wants to hear the people. Please support your statement with evidence.

It sure seems strange that the Randolph administration sent Cabrini packing more than once on the ballpark issue and now the Roy administration is entertaining the idea. Why would he even consider it, after the last attempt, knowing the community spoke out in strong numbers against it!?!?!

I believe Cabrini went to Broadway to get to the audience they believe uses the ballparks. Afterall the perception is that white middle and upper class use Johnny Downs and the less fortunate are stuck with ballparks off Broadway and Masonic.

My hope is they got an earful at both meetings and Roy's administration finally grasps the concept that we don't want our ballparks paved for parking lots.

Anonymous said...

If as you say the public has turned out in opposition of this proposal, then the meetings have served their purpose. There is nothing wrong with allowing Cabrini to take their proposal directly to the people, and there's nothing wrong with people rejecting the proposal. It may be a novel concept in Alexandria but public meetings are good for our little democracy.

Would you rather all decisions be made behind closed doors without the public's knowledge or input?

Anonymous said...

cabrini made their own bed. they didn't even bid on the aiken property. now they want our green space. i'm not tickled that cabrini had us pegged as stupid and only showed one building at the presentation, when plans for three are already in the works. be a good citizen and write all the council and the mayor. addresses can be found at http://cityofalexandriala.com/citygov/city_council/councildir.asp

if you want cabrini to take our green space, there is a special address to be used. http://alexandriava.gov/
those in favor, might also mention the need for a waterslide.

Good move Biff. Call it a Virginia dare.

Anonymous said...

I think there is enough of a cover up, outside of the "Virginia dare" on the Cabrini issue. Forget Jacques family ties to the Christus foundation. The Town Talk is reporting Cabrini plans to build a cardiology facility on the ballpark site. Just how many cardiologists contributed to Roy's campaign? Could it be that Roy is showing favoritism towards one of his neighbors? Sounds like a case for wesawthat ... afterall we know the Town Talk and KALB don't have any investigative reporters - especially now that Shotgun Billy has been reassigned.

Anonymous said...

Lots of dishonesty and speculation with no evidence in this thread. Many here just enjoy writing negative comments about Jacques Roy. Too bad their arguments do not hold water.

Anonymous said...

Really so Jacques Roy is now NOT related to Tommy Antoon who is on the Christus Foundation Board. Gee, how did he not become a relative since the election?

I don't believe this is speculation nor is it dishonesty.

I also don't believe it is speculation nor is it dishonesty that cardiologists supported Roy during his campaign. Afterall, one of his neighbors is a cardiologist.

This same neighbor practices at Cabrini.

So where's your proof of speculation and dishonestly?

What's the deal about the Antoons. I have known Tommy and his brother since highschool and they are wonderful people. I only wish I could vote for Tommy for something. Tommy is an educated hard-working family man who is 100% self-made. He came from a humble middleclass syrian family (very nice people) and went away, got educated, came back to Alexandria, and created a financial empire. I don't think is a family connection to Roy, but if so, it is distant, indirect, and both families should be proud of it.

Anonymous said...

Aren't (weren't) Jacques' grandmother and Tommy's mother-in-law sisters?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Hitler was the dictator of Germany, and Eisenhower was of German descent. So Eisenhower was a Nazi? That makes about as much sense as Roy being related to Antoon means he we sell the ballparks to Cabrini. I don't ever recall hearing Roy even say he was in favor of the sale to Cabrini. Some of you are dumbasses.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't a Cabrini boycott be interesting and are you insinuating that there is anything wrong with David Lind, John Sams, and Roger Breedlove taking an active interest in their community? That is the same mindset that thought theft was a problem for the areas older side of MacArthur Drive and not their problem until the folks that like your stuff started shopping in the newer neighborhoods cuz they stole all the good stuff in the older neighborhoods. Some folks draw the lines real small.

Anonymous said...

Let me get this straight, based on the press coverage, the "Garden District Greens" are led by John Sams, Roger Breedlove and David Lind. What the hell?

Why didn't you get off your ass and have your name in that list. Are you jealous that they have the balls to make a stand and you don't?

Anonymous said...

Sams, Breedlove, and Lind are good guys entirely motivated by public interest. Fowler and Silver already sold out, Roy is sounding pretty mushy, and Lind and Breedlove were enthusiastic Roy supporters and Roy should pay attention to them.

What we don't need is some totally self-serving self-promoting self-important person like Betty Joe Sterkx leading the charge for her own glory.

Anonymous said...

The mere fact that cardiologist who practice at cabrini contributed to the Roy campaign and WOULD benefit from the sale of the ballparks is enough to concern me. Roy ran his campaign on transparency, accountability and no sweetheart deals. His own neighbors stand to benefit from the selling of our ballparks and the building of a new cardiology facility on that property. Something that could be done on any other private property, granted it would probably be more expensive for them to do so. If the orthopaedic surgeons could manage to find themselves a "deal" in the old school facility, why can't cardiologists?

A letter to the editor today encourage compromise. I agree - we get to keep the ballparks that we all grew up on, playing on and now watch our kids or grandkids play on and Cabrini can still expand down Masonic, across Masonic and along Prescott all it wants. Sounds like a compromise to me.

Besides, how many times does the hospital have to be told by an administration - "NO, we won't sell you our ballparks." Oh wait, I forgot, the last administration told them twice, they now think the new administration will give in.

Anonymous said...

Some of you are unbelievable. When ever did Jacques say he was in favor of selling the ballparks to Cabrini? 2 councilmen have already said that they were opposed to it. You Roy attackers are now making up shit to bitch about, where none exists. Cabrini is the asshole here, not Roy. If, and that's a big if, he comes out in favor of the sale, then he is fair game to attack. Until then, release your steam onto something that is a fact.

Anonymous said...

Roy's endless interminable rhetoric seems to suggest support for Cabrini expansion which, to Cabrini, means the park. I have to wonder why Cabrini thinks the property is available and why the administration appears to agree with them. Transparency is nice, now how about some leadership??

Anonymous said...

IF the Roy administration was not interested in entertaining an offer to sell the ballparks to Cabrini, WHY THEN hold a freaking public forum on the issue in the first damn place? Did the City not host the first meeting on the issue? Did the City not send a letter out to the citizens in the surrounding neighborhood informing them of the meeting regarding the potential sale???????

IF the Mayor was not interested in entertaining the sale or an offer from Cabrini to purchase, no meeting would have been held, no letter would have been sent - he would have done what any good leader would have done. He would have stood on precendent as stated - the public has already spoken once on the matter in recent years and I am afraid I am going to have to side with the public. Not only do we have three master plans calling for more park space, but we have citizens who cry out daily for it. As Mayor I can work with you to find a way to support your expansion efforts, but not at the benefit of losing our park space.

That's what the Roy administration should have done. Then he could have gotten back to resolving our rebate from Cleco and getting us a new wholesale contract to lower our utility bills. Instead we have wasted time, something we don't have, to resolve a more important issue with heat indexes already soaring above 100 degrees.

Has anyone given any thought to the notion that this Cabrini parking lot crap is a smoke screen for whatever GAEDA is doing on the Cavalier site? Someone needs to keep their eye on the ball. The two may not be connected at all, but it seems mighty strange that Cabrini would bring the subject up knowing the depth of opposition and if they don't know, that brings up the question of how connected are they really to our town. Furthermore, the short answer to Cabrini or anyone else that has designs on useful city property should be simply,"no". Both the council and administration have more pressing matters than to have citizen attention redirected to a non sequitur as the Cabrini proposal. Remember, even though our council members appear to be buffoons most of the time, they somehow have mastered the art smoke and mirrors. Whatever the motivation, I am beginning to suspect the Cabrini flap is the smoke, we just have to figue out what is in the mirror.

Just like others who work for the DA are allowed to hold elected offices Chris Hazel will have the option of staying as DA after he is elected as the new representative for Dist 27.

I am curious about the GAEDA deal mentioned above. I knew that they bought the old hotel but I haven't heard anything since. Does anyone have any idea as to what the plans are and what is going on? I am sure it will be sold to one of GAEDA's friends. Something doesn't sound right about the situation and I didn't hear too much about it. Maybe I just missed it, anyone have any information on it?

Or, he could go to work for the Sheriff's office under Mike Slocum.

Slocum is pushing Hazel....BIG TIME.

PERSONALLY....I'm voting for Slocum AND Hazel.....That is a great team!

Anonymous said...

I think when people see how much money and support Farrar gets from Alcohol lobby and gambling lobby his conservative district will drop him and go for Hazel. Its about time. The big question is how much does Farrar want to damage himself with this campaign.

Anonymous said...

Farrar can always take "You, Me and Dupree's" job......Hell, with Farrar's Beer League connections, Uncle Clarence will be sitting pretty with Farrar as his right hand reach round man.

I'm still thinking they should sell beer at the BMX track by the river......

Anonymous said...

What about Donahue buying Cowboy town?? Any thoughts??

Anonymous said...

Well Uncle Clarence is supporting Farrar so who knows. I think the fact that Farrar and Fields has developed an alliance tells a lot of people the character of both. Shame there is no Mayors election at the same time as the represenative election.

We probably should all be concerned about GAEDA acquiring property on Masonic in the area. The CEO of Cabrini is on the GAEDA board.

And FOWLCO moved just north of Texas as well - right across from the ballparks Cabrini wants.

Anonymous said...

Yes the Hispanics working for Yankee Clipper are Legal. They are performing work that non of the local workforce wants to do. Seems that everyone wants a cush inside job with no physical labor involved.

Anonymous said...

Yep. Donahue baptist church moving out of Pineville to Cowboy town.

Anonymous said...

We probably should all be concerned about GAEDA acquiring property on Masonic in the area. The CEO of Cabrini is on the GAEDA board.

Does anyone know what they (GAEDA) are going to do with the property they acquired on Masonic Dr.? I am willing to bet whatever they do with it, is going to be sold to one of their buds. You can bet on that. Or one of the GAEDA board members will have a "silent" partnership much like we see everywhere around town.

Is the school going to cowboy town or the church? Looks like a great place for a stadium to me. and easier to get to than their spot in pineville.

Hazel is not even from Rapides Parish. An attorney tied to judges and to politicians, including the corrupt and disgraced Tom DeLay, I am not sure I want him representing Rapides. And working for the DA while serving in the state Hosue will create huge conflicts of interest. Perhaps that is the reason he is running. We Saw That does not endorse Hazel, and I think that is significant.

Anonymous said...

Farrar voted for ethics reform. Hazel has not made any statements about ethics, which makes me question his integrity OR LACK THEREOF.

If you are respecting an endorsement by We Saw That, you are probably not smart enough to vote. Hazel has spent his entire adult life kicking the shit out of sociopaths like WST. And that is one of the reasons he deserves our sincere consideration.

Farrar has provided effective representation in Baton Rouge for over eight years. He is a man of the people, and he has a huge base of support in his native Rapides. Hazel, who is from Orleans Parish and not Rapides Parish, is out of touch with Rapides Parish values.

KLFY TV 10 reports:

Water Park Coming to Rayne
Water Park Coming to Rayne

The city of Rayne plans to introduce an entertainment water park for the entire family to enjoy.

City officials hope to bring a 35 acre, 32 million dollar facility to Louisiana's frog capitol.

The project is being developed by water park experts out of Texas.

A lazy river, wave pool, and water slide are in the plans for the park in Rayne.

Most people around town are excited about it.

Developers are hoping to bring at least a million tourists to the water park during the opening year.

But city leaders say the tradition of frog land will never change.

Hubert Tate

See some of us told you so. With its new waterslide Rayne will now become the center of the Universe, in addition to the frog capitol. I have also heard that the Saints, the Bentley, Cabrini Hospital and Cowboy Town are relocating to Rayne, in order to be near the waterslide.

Anonymous said...

Biff Ryan, I would like to speak with you about a term life policy.

Also do you think Hazel can help represent his native Orleans? We need help getting home.

Anonymous said...

i'm no legal expert. can alexandria declare war on rayne? it's the cold war all over again. we need to match them water slide for water slide. bring back mutually assured destruction.

Anonymous said...

A voice of calm and reason is needed here. I propose that Alexandria and Rayne enter into a mutual strategic waterslide limitation treaty. This waterslide race must stop before the Earth is all water.

Anonymous said...

So no one knows who run's the "WE SAW THAT BLOG???"

Anonymous said...

Those who forget the lessons of history are bound to repeat it. Let us not squander the the budget of our City in a cold war with Rayne, where we feel a need to mathch it waterslide to waterslide. As in the Cold War of the past, we will spend all of our money on offensive waterslides, to the detriment of much needed social programs such as Qin on the Red, Brown Bag Concerts, golf courses and performing arts centers.

There is an idea, or not. You want to open up another Union Tank car type business? The problem is that we can't even fill all of the positions at UTC because no one can pass a piss test. I think first we need to take care of what we have and then worry about opening up new businesses.

Anonymous said...

There have been at least twenty small businesses that have opened their doors since Roy took office six months ago, and remember, the Governor helped us land Union Tank Car. If you think it's easy to just go out within the first six months and secure a commitment from a company like UTLX, then instead of offering empty and ridiculous criticism, why don't you tell everyone in Alexandria how it's done?

We're listening.

I am a conservative republican, hard right, but i aint gonna support Hazel. That man has taken bribes left and right while in the DA's office from friends for favorable rulings on cases. That is wrong. No way!!!! I opppose this guy BIG TIME!!!!!!! Hazel is a crook!!!!

Anonymous said...

There is a good reason the TT offered beads to Cabrini for holding their own meeting. The truth, like it or not, is that because of the closures of many, if not most, of the small hospitals in our area, a major hospital like Cabrini offers thousands of jobs and signifies an important economic engine in our community. Now I am also against selling any greenspace, but there is nothing wrong with the city giving Cabrini an opportunity to present publicly, because it forces all of us to recognize the importance of Cabrini's value to our region. We need to encourage expansion for Cabrini, just like we did for Rapides. Alexandria could become a health care hub, but not at the expense of our green space. Let's think about alternatives. These bloggers statements about Freedman and Roy only demonstrates how little they actually understand. I think Cabrini can dramatically expand without buying our ballparks, which is quickly turning into a PR nightmare for them.

Be positive about their growth. It's good for all. And when we stand our line, let's make sure we respect Cabrini's need to contribute more to our economy and to provide for better medical services. Can't we do this without selling the ballparks?

Anonymous said...

past time for common sense said...

good post. i suspect the majority of those against the proposed cabrini expansion are not anti-business tree huggers and very much want cabrini to continue to grow and prosper. the devil is always in the details, and cabrini needs to find other alternatives. the people of this city have spoken on the issue, and i don't believe it is in cabrini's best interest to spend it's savings account of good will on this project. go back to the drawing boards.

Anonymous said...

Rick and Todd up to their standard campaign tactic again. Instead of spreading lies, you should report Hazel to the Bar and to the Attorney General, if you have proof of that. Hazel is a low ranking assistant DA, so what is somebody gonna pay him a bribe to fix a traffic ticket. LOL ? Go drink another Bud Rick, and pontificate on your family values.

Of course, you are right. A number of small businesses have recently opened there doors. Unfortunately that is the result of their previous ventures failing to survive in Alexandria.

PJ's, Weiss & Goldrings, etc.

Anonymous said...

I have NO problem with Cabrini or for that matter Rapides expanding their offerings. We have been forturnate in the past few years to attract some wonderful doctors to our communities - doctors who want to belong to our community and don't just see themselves as doctors - Jeffrey Garrison is one example. He mentors kids and spends his own money to send some of them to football camp for a chance to perform at the collegiate level. We need quality healthcare in our area and we need to be able to support the surrounding parishes that don't have the specialists we have been able to attract.

HOWEVER, as I have said numerous times before, Cabrini can expand all the way down Masonic to the traffic circle for all I care and all along Prescott - just don't take our ballparks. There are plenty of options for them, they are seeking the easy way out.

Anonymous said...

9:47 You want to know how? First, you don't force companies to wait over 2 months to get a zoning question answered. Second you don't make companies wait over a month to let them know if you are going to endorse an incentive program for them. Third, you schedule meetings and you acutally honor the commitment to those meetings. Finally, you might actually want to follow up on issues being asked of your office in a timely manner. Companies making decisions don't have time to waste.

Anonymous said...

lamar knows who we saw that is

Why is it important to know who WeSawThat is, when most on here, including you post annonymously ?

Anonymous said...

Cabrini nor doctors are gifts from God. They are profit motivated like the rest of us, not matter what profession or occupation we are in. The health care business is good, thats why Cabrini is expanding. Cabrini charges you to get treated there, just like if you want a loaf of bread from Super 1. You need both, and neither is more important than the other.
So as a private business, Cabrini needs to purchase land the way any other business buys it. From private landowners, and not the City.

Rick Farrar has PROVEN that he could care less about the people of district 27. His only concern is keeping his mongrels happy; look at his voting record and you'll see what I'm talking about. Chris Hazel deserves a chance to prove himself. We've given that screw up Farrar long enough. Ask the people in Hickory Grove who are now having to be "represented" by someone in another parish. All because Ricky found some loophole to change the district. Yep, you bet he was thinking of the people when he did that!

Anonymous said...

Someone needs to ask Rick Farrar if he will run for Judge during the next 4 years if he is re-elected!

That is a yes or no answer.

Rick Farrar has done so much to represent me. I told him about potholes in Devile, and he had them fixed. He is also great on wildlife issues.
