Once upon a time ...

And so most stories begin (or it was a cold, dark night ... but I am trying to look ahead here), Jacques has come out of the gates with a good start. The race however is a 4 year stretch. Will he change the face of Alexandria politics? Will it be better or worse?

Perhaps this blog might be used by the citizens of Alexandria to impart our wants and desires to our new adminstration. If you want investigations, ask for them here. If you want something brought to Alexandria ask here.

Why doesn't everyone on this blog say or do something positive on this thread? We can get back to the slaughterhouse next thread.

Aymond reminds me of a fire hydrant. He’s short, fat, and every dog in town pisses on him.

This question is for this poster: -----> Thursday, November 30, 2006 2:46:18 PM

Just what do you have against Masons, and Hollingsworth in particular?

Anonymous said...

"Everybody is making such a big deal about a client replacing him with another lawyer.

No, you're wrong...Aymond is the only one who is whining about his firing, and blaming EVERYONE ELSE for canning him.

"We are asking Mr. Aymond to please consider our interests and feelings and desires and to alter or cease his offensive conduct on this site.

Aymond doesn't care about anybody but Aymond because he's nuts. Who can deal with a psycopath?

Anonymous said...

and how many times do you feel the need to repeat the same rediculous cheap-shot insults at Aymond pressing him into defending himself. I would ask you to do the same thing: if you have a hard on for Aymond, take it someplace else. We have heard your whining nonstop now for months - always the same thing, he's fat, he's stupid, he's mean - enough already. You and Aymond are meant for each other. But leave us out of it.

It is obvious in the lack of interesting subject matter that we are in a post election return to normal. Time to nap.

Not true Spankster. I understand that we have joys and wonders to behold in the new city administration. I hear that the new city attorney is one of the graduates of myron's office, just like bridget and kelvin. no time to nap now.

I heard that Laura Sylvester is the new attorney.

"cowardly chickentshit....you dumbasses....I do not give one dam in Hell what some dumbass on a blog....you can piss off...I don't really give a shit if anyone belives it...."

All these words and phrases were written by Greg Aymond and directed at the people who frequent this blog.

and you ask..."how many times do you feel the need to repeat the same rediculous cheap-shot insults at Aymond pressing him into defending himself?"

It seems that we are not the aggressors here. From his insulting comments, directed to us all...We are the ones defending ourselves from Aymond, not the other way around.

Anonymous said...

Scarlett, I am unable to give much weight to your assessment since you demonstrated that you think anyone with 2 X chromosomes is a good person. Laura, however, is a pretty good lawyer and will be a valuable asset to the new city attorney (which she is not). Remembe the Myron connection.

Scarlett, you need your sleep and much better judgment. But then, if you have defective gender based judgment, you wouldn't know that, would you.

After all, you have a judgment history that we can evaluate, don't you?

Point well taken, however, if we all jump on Aymond's ass, insult him, riducule him, and generally kick his butt, maybe he'll leave and never return.

Besides, my idea is a lot more fun.

The olive branch has been offered to Aymond on a number of occations but he refuses to let the WW#3, Hebron, Dupree, Toney, "I lost my biggest client" thing go.

If he continues to use this forum as a platform for his own personal pity party and continues to smear people withour any credible evidence, then he damn well gets what he deserves.

I started reading and posting on a, then, excellent blog named
Cenla Antics. However, it is not moderated and allows any idiot
with a computer to us it, and without giving his or her name and
posting anything they wish. For example, you can post something
there under the name of George Bush, if you like. Some of the
regular posters there have had their ficticious user names hijacked
in the past, with people making posts attributable to others when it
wasn't so. Posters are allowed to slander people and post, as fact,
unsubstantiated lies and rumors. There is very little anyone can do
about it, because you do not know who is posting it.
What started out as a discussion of local politicas has evolved
into, a cheap joke. As in real life, that blog is now infested with
people who lack the courage to put their real names to their posts,
and delight in spreading lies, false information and playing mind
games upon their fellow bloggers.
Recently, against my wishes as was previously stated herein, a
person or persons has been copying messages from this site onto
Cenla Antics. Even though I have denied those postings, even though
they have seen hijacked names and mostly anonymous posts before, and
even with some anoymous poster claiming resposibility for it, many
on that blog are convienced that I am posting that information
there. That is where the idiot part comes in. It is truly sad that
people are so stupid, as to form an opinion without any facts or
proof to support it. Many on that blog seem to follow other
anonymous posters like mindless sheep. I totally realize that most
people on that blog use it merely as a tool for cyber gossip, and do
little or nothing in real life to do anything to ensure that we have
good government. In fact, since it is anonymous, the crooked
politicians and their supportors propbably post anonymously on that
blog to attack those exposing their conduct. Similar to a jailed
dope dealer telling you what a no good the snitch that exposed his
drug dealing to police is.
It is true that I began this expose after I lost my position at
the Water District, and I am disgruntled because I was fired due to
illegal acts. However, anyone reading this website can see that my
reporting wrong doing is not just limited to the Water District or
Pineville, those are merely the places I receive the most
information about. Additionally, after obtaining an advisory
ethical opinion, I was informed that it was my duty to protect the
interests of my former client, the District itself and not the
individual Board members. Do I have an axe to grind? You bet. I
strongly detest any public servant violating ethics, laws or
thinking that they are above it. Anytime I come across information
of such, I will attempt to verify it, expose it to the public, and
turn the information over to the appropriate agency. Government
officials abiding by law and ethics will put me out of business.
The first time I went to Cenla Antics was to read lies which
were posted about me. I, perhaps, made the mistake of responding.
I now see that responding to anonymous bullshit is fruitless, as
many people seem to not care there what is fact or fiction. Posters
there shout freedom of speech, but it is exacly why our founding
fathers have always placed limits on what you could say. They, no
doubt, realized that many people do not have the sense or self
control to have absolute freedom of speech, and that we must have
laws to stop them from spreading lies or national secrets, for
example.
The closed mindedness, lack of courage to post using real names,
posting opinions not based upon facts, and, worst of all, the lack
of reason to accept such crap as truth, makes the Cenla Antics blog
little more that the internet version of some cheap gossip rag.
Thanks to whomever began that blog, and the initial reasons for it,
but it has degenerated to the point that one can believe very little
that is posted there.

I imagine the old shredder is going full steam at Alex. Legal. I am told that Chuck Johnson gave 30 days notice to Jam Downs so I don't know exactly when he will be starting but I would imagine that Roy would not take a seat at his desk without a legal team in place.

I do not know Johnson but it would seem like with 25 yellow pages full of local lawyers, Roy could have found one not so beholding to Myron Lawson. I trust Roy. I don't trust Lawson.

Anonymous said...

Not that it matters but, out of curiosity, I counted and there are 31 yellow pages of lawyers in the Alex. phone book. 31 pages ----->

thank you Scarlet - we depend on you for meaningless fluff

Anonymous said...

Is it true that Charles Johnson was in Myron Lawson's office with Bridget Brown and Kelvin Sanders?

No.

These people are just running out of material and feel the need to repeat themselves.

Anonymous said...

I'm affraid that you are incorrect. Charles Johnson was most certainly in Myron Lawson's office with Brown and Sanders. That were he was when he was appointed city prosecutor. He did not move out of Lawson's office until he became an assistant district attorney. Those are the facts. I don't know what all that means and it may be just a simple coincidence that such great city-related success and influence falls to those who rent law office space from Myron. I agree that it's an interesting phenomenon.

Anonymous said...

Who cares? I can assure you that Roy did not select Chuck Johnson because he rented space from Myron Lawson.

Anonymous said...

I really don't know who cares - I certainly don't - but I found that fact interesting. And you may be entirely wrong. Roy may have wanted somebody he trusted, that was a good lawyer, who knew Myron well, and who could relate to Myron, and on whom Myron and his colleages could not drop the race card. Roy may have found Johnson's close ties to the DA's office to be useful in sending a subtle message. This may be Roy's way of healing the council-administration rift while asserting his administrative pimacy. I would seriously doubt that it is sheer coincidence. It could be a potentially masterful move.

Anonymous said...

Uh...Hmmm. Wasn't Kevin Sanders supposed to heal the rift between the administration and the Council? Afterall, he also officed with Myron. That didn't seem to help any.

Anonymous said...

My hope is that Chuck is Roy's choice. Kelvin was Myron's choice. Hopefully, that will make an enormous difference.

Maybe instead of trying to reassemble his Menard class he is trying to reassemble his Southern U. class.

Anonymous said...

I can't help but ask this. Why did Roy go to Southern rather than LSU? Didn't the rest of his family go to LSU? It is a much more prestigious institution. Or was he already a political animal way back then.

Anonymous said...

It really doesn't matter - Roy's not our lawyer, he's our mayor. If Chuck Johnson went to Southern I can totally understand that with the racial identity thing and wanting to support the only college that offered black students an opportunity in Louisiana (unless they were 9 feet tall or could run with the football).

Anonymous said...

Southern isn't the only school in Louisiana which is prediominantly black offering educational opportunities - Grambling is in the northern part of the state doing the same thing. Funny how you've forgotten.

Anonymous said...

Grambling does not have a law school (and Southern says it does????) so perhaps that is why it was omitted. How nice of you to stand up for Grambling and its wonderful academic reputation. Southern and Grambling enjoy the unique feature of having at least two top administrators and or board members arrested each year. Were it not for their "special" clientelle they would have been shut down decades ago.

Oh my, aren't we the intellectual.

Here's the deal you mindless idiot. You can say all the crap you want to, but in the end is boils down to you.... a dickless little gnome, pecking away at your keyboard in the darkness. You have no life, no money, a crappy car, and the women view you as dog puke. You spout profanity at people, trying to drag them down to your level because you know that you will never rise to theirs. You're pissed because you're a failure at everything, and have been since you pissed all over yourself in elementary school and everybody laughed at you...

You're a loser, facing a lifetime of being compared to everyone else, and coming up short. Here, on this blog, you can act the part of a tough guy because you know that no body will challenge you face to face.

So, play your games, call your names, but when you crawl into your bed at night, you're still a failure at everything you do. No amount of puffing here will ever change that.

Anonymous said...

Rich Dupree needs to publicly make it clear that he is not the person slamming Aymond, because a lot of people may be led to that conclusion after reviewing all the evidence.

The anonymous rantings against Aymond are far more vitriolic and defamatory than those written against Aymond detractors. The logical conclusion would be that they are written by someone with a dog in the fight.

Who else would invest so much energy into this argument?

Dupree, call off your squad. If you ever decide to run for anything, this will come bite you back in the ass.

Anonymous said...

Logical approach: why would Dupree seek to prolong this exchange. He has not come out that well and needs to have this cease to be an issue so that he does not attract bad light to his boss.

Practical approach: who gives a shit, all this is is annoying.

"The anonymous rantings against Aymond are far more vitriolic and defamatory than those written against Aymond detractors."

This is true, but not for the reasons you state.

"The logical conclusion would be that they are written by someone with a dog in the fight."

As I said before, your conclusion is correct but not for the reasons you cite. Aymond is universaly hated by everyone he comes into contact with. They hate the man PERSONALLY!

On the other hand, those who support him here support is POSITION, not him.

The reason the anti-Aymond posts are so venomous is because these posters have an intimate knowlege of Aymonds the person, his tactics, as well as the weakness of Aymonds arguements.

Ask yourselves this: If Aymond's facts were true, why has every law enforcement agency declined to investigate further?

Charles Johnson was a public defender, a city prosecutor, and an assistant district attorney. What preparation does he have to deal with contract, governmental bid laws, labor issues, utility regulation, civil liability issues, bonding & finance, property law - granted, he will be dealing with criminals, but he won't have much use for his criminal law background. Johnson will probably do a wonderful job but, please, cut the bullshit.

Thanks 10:05 - I by no means have lived a sheltered life and have not been living the "prima donna" life of the blue hairs. My parents believe in hard work. To tell you the truth, I often have a hard time distinguishing between silverware - a friend taught me to always start on the outside and work your way in - that generally works and saves embarassment. You can also wait until someone else starts and see which one they pick up.

Anonymous said...

It is an undeserved insult to suggest that Johnson's appointment as city attorney is anything other than a political accomodation to Lawson and the majority black council. But so is every appointment of every executive level officer. It's crazy to ignore the fact that this guy is right out of the Brown-Sanders tribe.

The real issue is "will Johnson be both politically acceptable to the council and a good city attorney that is loyal to the mayor and the interests of the city" and I think the answer will be a strong "yes". Jesus! Roy won with 76% of the public's confidence. Give him credit for making good initial appointment decisions. Getting in the council's face is not a smart way to start - remember, he is starting out with a 6:1 disadvantage in a very racially polorized council strongly supported by their community.

Think about it. Just because you may not have voted for the incumbent city council, they still represent you and are bound by oath to serve the citizenry as a whole, not just those that voted them in and you should expect that they be responsive to legitimate concerns. It is way past time for skin color to matter about anything so you may find yourself crying on the platform as the train pulls away if you want to cling to your black and white vision of our community. I longer threads seem to be a natural filter as witnessed by less foolish traffic lately. Long live the long thread and power to high speed connections.

Anonymous said...

Spanky, standing on the platform is better that standing on the tracks. If your naive view of the council's likely response to their re-election is correct then only merit and value and public service matters. If, on the other hand, the message the council gets is a resounding ratification of their previous conduct, then I would not look for the sensitivity and call to duty that you project. Tell us exactly what you attribute your predicted 180 degree change-of-council-heart to. I could use some cheering up.

Anonymous said...

Spanky, I don't understand your thinking. Do you think the council, after an affirming re-election, and proof that whatever they were doing and however they were doing it WORKS, that they will change directions and voluntarily relinquish power and influence and self-enrichment? Get a grip!

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with you about council intentions and modus operandi. The point is that they are elected to serve all and they should be held to account for their actions and exposed at every turn as they stray. In the past year and a half, their foolishness and methods have been exposed on many occasions in the black community as well as the rest of the city. In hindsight, the election turnout and victory margins do not add up to a mandate and it is up to concerned citizens to direct council actions as they are to be responsive to us. It takes effort on our part and you can well believe that the council is tuned into what is going on with the populace. What they banked on was that the populace was too stupid to know and if they did know, too lazy to care. The recent elections may have awakened enough folks to ensure that they do not have a free hand or a free ride in managing our affairs. Tell your neighbors to wake up / speak up!!!!

Anonymous said...

41% voter turnout x 50+~% margin computes to 20-to 25% of the registered voters placing the current folks in office. Hardly an overwhelming mandate. It is my purpose at this point in life to stir the population to awareness and action. We know what the political landscape is now, so let the games begin. The out come of the election was only the beginning of the battle.

Anonymous said...

Spanky - you have made the huge leap from analyst to cheerleader. Let me suggest that you look at the election outcome as the voice of 100% of the people who give a shit, rather than 40% of the registered voters. The message that this council received (excepting CFS who should be affraid to go out in public) is that more folks like and approve of their performance than don't. You are asking the council to change what works. How reasonable is that? The council will do what is in their individual respective best interests and it is encumbant on Roy to frame his negotiations in that light. He apparently understands that with his "keep Myron happy" objective and theme. Smith, Johnson, and Fowler come up in two years. There's our next move.

Anonymous said...

Anon, I feel you have defined the challenge and that is to goad a larger portion of the 60% to give a shit. We are not going to motivate everyone, but another 10% would be a huge victory. They live here too and it is simple as asking a person when they complain about circumstances if they voted. The simple reply to a "no" is "you have not earned the right to complain." It is up to all of us that do care to inspire the rest of those that do not. Shame them, chastise them, get them involved. The power and responsibility to vote is only a small part of being citizen. As far as the council, they have staked out their territory and boundaries, so they have defined who and what they are. As with any foe, threat assessment is primary to begin dismantling defenses by mounting an effective offense. We do not have the luxury of thinking that two years must pass before proper influence can be asserted on the council through elections. In understanding Jacques motives, you must realize that in politics that you must keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

According to Lamar, Jacques has appointed a caucasian to a post:

Roy Asks Kay Michiels To Become Alexandria's Next "Chief of Staff"

Yesterday evening, Jacques Roy announced that he will be appointing Kay Michiels, an Alexandria attorney and former educator, to become his operational assistant, a position his predecessor, Ned Randolph, referred to as chief of staff. Michiels has agreed to the appointment and states that she looks forward to working in the Roy administration.

Anonymous said...

Someone just mentioned that Lamar may be considering a run for City Council in 2008. Is this true?

Anonymous said...

By 2008, he will be 26 or 27 which he believes is too old for meaningful public service. It would be different if he had a building downtown to sell.

Anonymous said...

so far, so good. chuck and kay are excellent choices.

Anonymous said...

Biff, are you saying that these are good guys and you like them or that they are particularly qualified for their appointments by training, experience, and education? Maybe you could tell us a little bit about them. With Mr. Crutchfield leaving, we are ending up with Sex Ed being taught by 8 year old virgins. We obviously opted for Roy's brains over Smith's experience but somebody's got to know how to operate the elevator and where the toilets are.

Sec. 4-04. Public works division.
(A) The head of the public works division shall be the director of public works. He shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the council, and shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor. The director of public works, at the time of appointment, shall be a graduate registered civil engineer with at least three (3) years' related experience in a responsible managerial or administrative position or shall have at least eight (8) years of related public works experience in a responsible managerial oradministrative position.

Why? Would you listen and act?

Anonymous said...

"Three very important positions are Public Works, Utilities, and Finance. With Public Works( I hope she stays) taken care of, Roy's picks should be of with a broad base of knowledge, education, and experience. A great BS detector helps also."

Lawson does not need to stay. Beyond basic sanitary services she is a consumate bureacrat who would make Larry Matthews proud.

Like it or not Sansing would make a good Finance Director; his qualifications make it a stretch to put him in the Utility Director's slot. Even with Connella out there are stilla couple of good Utilities employees that could do a fine job runnning the Utilities Division.

What about Planning Director? That hasn't even been mentioned.

Some of you are totally rude. Do you think you lend any credibility to this site? No wonder it is dying on the vine. I have noticed a few of you are poisonous. Don't tell me that Jacques Roy is proud to have you as a part of his supporters. I know that not to be the case. Why don't you go crawl back into the depths from which you came.

Anonymous said...

On the contrary, I think Jacques is quite proud of those of us who were able to see past the elitest rants and malicious lies of the Brewer campaign and bring in 76% of the vote. While Roy has expressed a desire to put the ugliness of the Brewer campaign behind him I am sure he realizes that so much rancor and personal victimization by Brewer will have a lingering effect for some time to come. I notice that some of the more active anti-Roy 2 named blue hairs now enjoy the status of transition team. For those of us who worked so hard, that is a very bitter pill to swallow.

Anonymous said...

I totally disagree with you on this. Roy would never condone calling people "Rosanne" or insulting them constantly by making jokes about their weight. I have found him to be a gentleman and eager to put the election behind him. He realizes in order to bring this city forward to the place we all aspire, he must include people with a vision and desire to help achieve that vision. People like you; however, will only serve to tear down what he works so hard to build. You, obviously, don't have much experience with campaigns and politics. People fight the battles fiercely and then shake hands and go to dinner. There is a lot you could learn from that.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps, but people like me kept people like you from electing people like Brewer. I feel pretty good about that. If you had gotten your way, how much damage would that have done?

Anonymous said...

Damage??? Not much. Roy will be a fine mayor. He is intelligent and has good ideas. So is Delores. She just listened to the wrong people and made some mistakes. Namely, Roy Fletcher. What a bust!! Anyway, I'm not interested in rehashing the election. What a waste of time that would be. My entire point is, we don't have to be best friends or socialize. We just don't need to continue to try to destroy people, even it's psychologically. It's time to move on.

Anonymous said...

I don't know about the rest of you but I wanted to see Jacques be a little more assertive. This city has languished under Ned's weak hand with the council. I want Jacques to stop all this "feel good" crap and kick some ass. I don't think a 51 year old ex school marm is up for the fight. Lawson and company will roll over her like Grant went through Richmond

Anonymous said...

Kay is no Harold Chambers when it comes to the similar position she will be filling. The one important thing to remember here is that Jacques is taking part in every aspect of government and will also be sitting at the same table Kay will. He can speak up at any given time and assert himself, just as she has argued on behalf of her clients in court. I don't look for either of them to roll over an play dead in front of the Council.

Anonymous said...

I think I may have to disagree with you there. Being 50 something does not make one a wimp. You may be surprised how much fire that lady has left in her belly. Not only that, but sometimes experience will take you a long way. You haven't even seen her in action yet. Give them all a chance. Calm down, these things have to be approached with a little finesse.

Anonymous said...

Here is a great quote from our new Mayor- "Move away from being a complainer to an active participant in your City."

Captain-pull the plug on this blog and let's see if all these complainers will actually do something productive for our city.

A lot of blogs are informitive and useful--this one is just garbage.
Captain-do your duty for your city.

Anonymous said...

Things haven't changed that much. Politics is everything and if you are not invited to participate you are, by definition, excluded. Voicing complaints and dissatisfaction may be all that is left to you.

An important difference in evaluating Roy's appointments is that Roy will be an active participant rather than a passive puppet as was Ned. As long as Jacques leaves no doubt who is in charge, he will require a lot less stamina from his appointees.

Anonymous said...

I think Kay will do a fine job. She is eager to do this and Jacques knows what he's doing by appointing her. She is a lady who will do her homework! GO GIRL!!!!!

I am holding judgement until I see how Jacques handles the nepotism problem. When he fires everyone in any sort of supervisory role, who is related to any member of the council in any way...including their mistresses...then I'll believe. Until then Roy hasn't proved anything to me.

Hahahah...

So fire Ms. Lawson, even though she is respected and intelligent and worked for the city way before Myron ever joined the council, just because she's related to Myron?

You're an idiot. Thank God we elected a smart mayor and not some idiot who'd impulsively lead out of misguided anger.

I prefer for him to take his time, learn the process, and make changes only after careful consideration.

Anonymous said...

"So fire Ms. Lawson, even though she is respected and intelligent and worked for the city way before Myron ever joined the council, just because she's related to Myron? "

That might be true but do you see any other departments getting attention to their personnel issues at every single council meeting for the last 2 months?

Gee I wonder how that happened?

Anonymous said...

Two words: Pam Saurage.

Anonymous said...

You are right about that one!

Anonymous said...

I watched Jaques on channel four tonight. The council looked downright aggravated that he was there and actively participating in their legal committee meeting. I was impressed with him. He's already doing a great job. Let the sun shine in!

Anonymous said...

Let's remember Ms Lawson was moved to that department after the Rev held up the taxpayers during Katrina. She was excellent in the previous position and wonderful for the public to work with. Now she's left with the mess to clean up in Public Works. That's not her fault. It wouldn't matter who was at the helm, the department would be getting the attention. Saurage has to go. The only way to accomplish that is to get rid of William Ford.

I hear Ken Juneau is still hanging around city hall.

Why on earth would Roy want him there?

Juneau actively campaigned against Roy-- and then showed his lack of loyalty to Randolph by helping Brewer out during the run-off, when she was attacking Randolph's legacy.

Also, someone said he was looking for a job with the Provosty firm.

Is it true that he's staying on with Roy?

Anonymous said...

I was there today and didn't see him anywhere. He certainly wasn't in the Mayor's office.

Good. That guy needs to go.

He was one of the main voices behind the old guard.

I don't think he brings anything valuable to Roy.

what menard graduates have been appointed? NONE. the only person besides roy who went to menard is crutchfield, who was appointed by ned, and he's leaving.

you obviously don't know the history between myron lawson and chuck johnson. they're not exactly best friends and johnson does not have any patience for him or bridgett brown. btw, chuck hasn't had the chance to respond to any of this because he's tending to his child in the hospital.

Anonymous said...

According to the current Town Talk web poll, concern over crime is by far the biggest problem on Alexandrians' minds and a professional prosecutor like Johnson may give some decent direction. Crime and public safety concerns seem to be totally off the Roy radar. The president of the local criminal lawyer's association told me that they wrote Roy a letter offering to try to be of some help in addressing the crime problem and he said they never even got the courtesy of a response from Roy. If it ain't smart growth it ain't important. My sister is doing all of her Xmas shopping over the internet because she is affraid to go to the mall. I doubt she is alone.

Anonymous said...

I think you are right - we don't know Charles Johnson, but is it so difficult to understand how we might register some concern considering that Myron's little office has yielded Bridget Brown, Kelvin Sanders, all the "consulting" LLC's that included Bridget and Myron's wife and Kelvin's wife, Dee Dee Fuller and husband of the water slide study fame, and Charles Johnson? Why would the mayor reach into a toilet to find a jewel? The mayor likes to talk about the "appearance of impropriety";----

Anonymous said...

It has been my experience that people relocating to a new area looking for a new home have as their first two priorities crime stats and school districts. Think about the way population is distributed in Alexandria and you will see population grouped along these lines also. It stands to reason that security (or crime stats) would be the natural number one priority of the citizens. Conquering the crime problem in Alexandria and the furtherance of community policing is probably the singlemost method of making our town more attractive to outsiders and advancing a feeling of well-being and equal opportunity to all citizens throughout the city. Folks do feel abandoned when left to the wolves. Higher crime areas are also the most neglected from a policing standpoint with higher negatives as police presence is usually a result of a call and not regular patrolling. Getting a grip on our crime problem, and yes we do have one, should come to Jacques focus very soon and will be his test of perception.

Anonymous said...

The Town Talk polls have proven to be frighteningly accurate. It would not be prudent to ignore that expression of the people's voice. The only thing that will impact the crime problem in a positive way is a coordinated effort between the courts, schools, social programs, criminal bar, and law enforcement. But I guarantee you that putting another dozen cops on the street without improving their training and screening and hiring practices (most of the new cops are children of the old cops that are presently in charge) and deployment and utilization (along with some modification of police and fire civil service) won't do anything but cost us another million bucks in salary, fringes and benefits. I think Chief Coutee is affraid to talk freely because he is reminded of where his allegiance needs to be.

Anonymous said...

Which current Alexandria City Policemen are sons or daughters of current (or for that matter retired) City Policeman.

That is a touchy subject because a son of a former Chief of Police gave his life (needlessly in my opinion) defending the citizens of this City.

I guess he was just political payoff also.

Hey folks, It is important to keep your eye on the ball and the ball is the crime problem. Circuitous argument is counterproductive.

again, my two bits. chuck johnson is NOT out of the bridgett, myron mold. he has the highest standards of integrity combined with the right personality to do this job. ditto for kay. as for the reference to kay being a 51 year old school marm, let me assure you behind that smiling face is plenty of backbone and gumption. let's trust roy to do his job, and not micromanage or nit pick his efforts. on the other hand, he has been in office 4 days, and we still don't have a waterslide.

Anonymous said...

Let's get some things out in the open shall we?

Anyone and I said ANYONE who advocates leaving soldiers from the previous administration alive on the battlefield is a fool. More than that, they are a naive fool who has no concept of political warfare.

To those of you out there who think that it's OK to leave relatives in place so that they can rise again to lift a sword against the victor, you are asking for future defeat.

There is no room for partial victory. Complete victory is defined as total annihilation of ALL those who might oppose you now, and in the future.

Yes, some of you want the touchy, feely, warm fuzzies when you speak of the council and their relatives, however, remember this. Each Council member who has taken advantage of their position to secure a friend, relative or mistress a job in city government does not have COA as their primary concern.

These men covet power and use their position to gain it. They must be politically punished each time they attempt to usurp the mayor’s authority. Cutting their ability to pass out political patronage sends a clear message.

My earlier posts concerning School Marm Kay are accurate. The position she was chosen for is not one that requires legal expertise. It requires political expertise. As I said before, the sharks in the council room will eat her alive.

Anonymous said...

"Anyone want to gripe about the governor and her efforts to buy her another 4 years in office. I heard her this morning on the radio urging us to be careful at railroad crossings. Deacon "

Yeah and the state is dragging its feet on upgrading the crossing at Hwy 1 near the UTLX plant where we've already had 2 accidents. So much for asking us to be careful at railroad crossings - sounds to me like she's talking out her ass again.

You are probably scarred because you chose to have a battle instead of a compromise. Our charter does not put Roy in a position to punish the council without doing grave violence to the welfare of the city. If Roy cannot compromise, don't expect much good to come of his administration. That being said, compromise does not require total abdication of authority and control to Myron Lawson. That looks like our current trend.

I was pleased when Jacques announced his candidacy and and relieved when he won the race. Alexandria has been toiling to place itself in the condition that it finds itself for years. Jacques is the mayor, not saviour. We all have a responsibility to put forward our individual efforts to guide the city where we want it to go. I for one see a difference at the mayoral level in attitude that it is a matter of conducting the citizens business and not a matter of dominion over subjects. Everyone grab a place on the rope and pull.

I have encountered weak people like you my entire life. You use words like negotiation, compromise, capitulation. This is the vocabulary of the defeated. Last time I looked, Jacques won with better than 70%… a landslide. If ever a mayor had a mandate, this is it.
I know it’s tough to learn a new vocabulary when you and your kind are holding hands and singing Kumbaya, but try this… mandate from the voters… new direction… a city staffed with aggressive professionals who will enable new growth… cast aside the politics when we re-staff the city… who you are and who you know are no longer criteria for employment… remove those who are warming a chair and replace them with people who don’t want to sit down…

Politics is not for the weak. The Republicians are finding that out. They have tried to compromise with Democrats for the past 12 years…look where it got them.

I am on the sidelines now because there is no upcoming election. I will have to wait until the fall of 2007 before my services are needed again. While it is my job to get candidates elected, how they govern is up to them.

I have never run for office myself, however there are men and women all over Louisiana who would not occupy their chair if it had not been for me. I have no stomach for administration because I cannot deal with laziness, incompetence, and outright stupidity...traits which dominate most of the supervisory staff in COA.

Yes I know the voters elected Jacques, you twit...I was one of those who convinced brainless sheep like you to vote for him. I do find it rather sad that he is already compromising his strength to the current council. He need not do this. It will cost him later.

Is it my imagination or is the city council a bit more circumspect in their public appearance? If you folks keep acting like you are aware and care, events may begin to move in a direction that the citizens would have them to go. Do you suppose that it is actually possible to have local government responsive to its citizens demands? Wouldn't that be a novel occcurance. All of the folks may experience a burst of empowerment as events unfold and who knows what could happen next.
