The People have spoken!

Jacques Roy is our new Mayor. Unfortunately, he will soon find out that he will be the new whipping boy. Politics - as things change so they remain the same.

Alexandrians voted for change, but how many are willing to help? There are many contracts out there that are held by the "elected familia". Not contracts that were bid on, but actual active contracts. Where will Mr. Roy start? Mr. Roy, dazzle us!

Forget the cars,I heard CENLA GOPAC is under investigation by the state ethics board. Delores Brewer is really bringing bad luck to the republicans. Okay, this is not her fault. Several disgruntled members are not renewing their membership. Has anyone heard anything? One of the national elected republican official is not happy with the leadership of the CENLA GOPAC."

Don't think so bud ... as a friend of the "national elected republicans" and quite a few Demo's I'd know it. Unlike you, they know that I call'em like I see uhm ... and you are PART OF THE PROBLEM ...

There was a drinking game that I played in college ... it was called Bullshit and I'm calling it ...

And to finish this off ... I know who you are ...

Mr. Anonymous 10:55, why don't you tell the individual who you are!! Stop playing all these drinking games. I have been reading the blogs and why did you wait so long to respond? You have something to hide???

Whoa! ... I do know that there was a board problem with one of the board members not understanding the by-laws. I also undestood from certain sources that the board member did not follow the ethics of boards. I do have to agree with the previous remark about knowing if there was trouble. Most of the elected officials that I know laude the organization. As a Democrat myself, I actually appreciate the fact that there are two watchdogs; if everybody watches everybody else who can pull anything off!

Good job???? did you say GOOD JOB????
Tell us oh wise one, what the hell did Ourso do but get the hell out of the way and let Delores self destruct?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a died in the wool Roy supporter, but I know Trey quite well. He's lost way more than he's won, and he rather slow.
I'm no politico, but I could have run a chimpanzee against Delores and beat her ass by 15 points!

Trey Ourso didn't do anything but collect a check...

Anon 9:03,

Although very excited about Roy's win, I thought KALB's coverage of the election last night showed a definite lack of professionalism. I mean, I know emotions were heightened and nothing was scripted, etc. but really!

Example- Renee Allen: "Are you excited about how everything went?" Brewer: "Uh, no. I'm not excited about how things went."

What a horrible question! What was Allen expecting her to say, "YEAH! This race was awesome! It got really negative and I only got about a quarter of the vote! I'm so excited!" Give me a break...

The rest of the KALB gang had their fair share of gaffes as well...just things I wouldn't expect out of a professional news team. Plus, they were behind with reporting the numbers as they came in. I followed the Sec. of State website & was more up to date with the standings than KALB seemed to be.

We've got a fresh, new mayor-elect poised to make positive changes for our city. I can only hope that our media outlets (TT included) can follow suit and get it together.

Fern said...

Let's all roll up our sleeves and work with and support Mayor-Elect Roy to make Alexandria the best city it can be! I was happy to see the current mayor, plus many city councilmen, including Chuck Fowler at the Roy victory party last night. Even though Fowler and some of the other city councilmen supported other candidates initially, being there shows a strong desire to work with the new mayor. I think it was very appropriate for them to make an appearance. Also,it said a lot about Mayor-elect Roy that he was so gracious to Mayor Ned, Mayor Fields and the city councilmen there. Plus--what a great victory speech!

One more "gaffe" @ KALB - The News Leader... LOL
Did you see the snippet (10PM newscast) where Dale Hoffman asked Farah Reyna, "How old is he (re:Jacques)???" She replied, "I believe 35." To which he said with a chuckle, "But a child..." Mayor-elect Roy has every reason never speak to Hoffman for any reason, or intimidate the HELL out of him by speaking only to him!!! What a MORON!!! Guess that's why he's here & never moved on to greener pastures... Smug, arrogant media bastard he evidently is...

You don't know Godard like we do. She is finished with the blog. She seems to like Lamar, but this group has called her names one too many times. If you have a problem with her staff, call her.

god bless cable said...

The only possible explaination is that the "deciders" at KALB don't watch Channel 5 on the weekends. Renee Allen cannot read what she is handed, does not understand what she reads, and talks with such an affect that most common words used in the newsplace are mispronounced. I have often wondered why KALB subjects us to someone of such limited skill, talent, and understanding.

On the other hand, the Town Talk poll had Roy at 73% and Brewer at 27%. This is the second time their survey has nailed it. Bet it will get lots of attention in the future.

I don't know how you can fault roy's campaign advisors (and roy). geeze louise, they basically took names and kicked ass. 60-40 is a stomping in todays world. anything above that is major pimp slapping. sure, delores stepped in it after the run-off, but roy still had to get the vote out. again, deserved praise all around.

Anonymous said...

Utterly amazing. Roy decimates his opposition with a 3:1 margin and you are criticizing his advisors. The critical thing for Roy to do was to respond properly or not respond at all, to Delores's aggression.

I think that you have to evaluate the Roy campaign on its result which amazed even the most optimistic Roy rooter.

The Roy campaign sent Jacques to city hall and Delores to Disney World. I call that a happy ending.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I would say Delores sent Roy to City Hall.

I don't think the media is through monitoring blogs. They really can't afford to. Godard did not have one single original idea for election coverage since John Sams announced last year. All of her creative ideas came from us and, to her credit, she, or her boss, listened and put some of our ideas into play.

There "anchors" are a very skinny very pretty raven-haired moron and her middle-aged comb-over foil. That's tough to take 2 or 3 times a day. And that's as good as it gets. The weather guys, for some reason, are cool. But they will move one to make a living. We will be left with Jethro Clampet Konvica tell us what probably won't happen. But being the only station in town, it is the best station in town.

Did anybody understand KALB's announcement that they're bringing CBS to Cenla in the fall? Does that mean they're dropping NBC? Or are they opening another station? Or will they do some sort of combined thing (which I wouldn't think either network would agree to). Curious Minds.

It's why I'm never too much in favor of getting everyone out to vote on election day. Some people are too dumb or know too little about the issues and I hate to have them negating or canceling out the vote of someone who has bothered to inform himself-or herself."

Mike Slocum (Another William Earl Hilton), Bill robinson, and Chuck Wagner. I hope and would like to see another person add his name to this list.He is someone who said that he would not run for the post, but he is the type of person we need. His name is Clarence Fields. The mayor of Pineville. rpaides Parish has not had a Sheriff in a long time. We need some one who is going to Chip up the Broom and burn the rug. We need to get away from the good ole boy system. We need someone who is not going to cover up for his deputies or family members.

John,
Welcome to the blog. You said that Mike Slocum would be another William Earl Hilton. What's wrong with that? W Earl is a good man. But, more importantly, he is a great Sheriff. Under his watch, the RPSO has grown into one of the best, if not the best, in the state. Mike was trained by Hilton and more than capable of continuing the high level of service RPSO provids now. Not only that, Slocum will be able to move the department forward as new innovative programs present themselves.
Mike Slocum is the best QUALIFIED, of the three, to run the office.

Joe Ray Bob, Jr. said...

Pineville is fortunate to have a mayor like Fields. He is doing a good job in leading our city forward. He, however, doesn't have the experience in law enforcement needed to make a good Sheriff. The fact that Fields said he would not run for the job is evidence that he understands this.

Ahhh Trey speaks again...

Ever the spinner aren't we Trey. Look! The primary success is due to one thing, Roy's age. There was a certain age group in Alexandria who thought the blue bloods were a joke and voted for Roy in response to that, and that alone. There were too many other candidates in the rest of the field to consolidate the blueblood/black vote under one camdidate. Consider this, had Fuller not run, Johnson would have been in the primary, not Brewer. Jacques would have had a tough time against Johnson.

I would have voted for Jacques either way, and believe that he will be a GREAT mayor. However, Trey Ourso had no effect on Jacques success.

Jacques got this one on his own..

Trey Ourso is a no talent hack.

I didn't view We Saw That as sniping. I saw him more outraged that American Christian leaders, along with others were not condoning the event. What's more surprising is that Mexico City's government just approved rights for gay unions - this doesn't mean they approved gay marriages, just that gay couples could register for inheritance, social benefits and pensions. The same law applies to unwed hetrosexuals who live together. Mexico City since it is a Federal District has it's own government and neither President Fox nor President-elect Calderon could do anything to stop the passage. Why I say this is more surprising is the majority of hispanics are catholic. You would think a statement would have already been issued from the Vatican condeming the law.

As politically correct as many of you may like to act, many of us, like sentiments expressed by We Saw That, believe that homosexual acts are not only contrary to our religious belief, but we also feel that they are anti-sociatal and acceptable norms. Your calling people that belief like us Nazis or KKK is ludicris. One can speak out against the act of homosexuality without advocating putting them in death camps. Your making that argument is similar to Delores comparing Jacques recent campaign to a rape.

Anonymous said...

We Saw That should not be condoned for having conservative views. If you're going to bash him for being appauled at the fact not one American organization has voiced an ounce of protest against the Jewish government for allowing such a display and event to take place, fine do so out of your right to have an opinion and express it, just as he is doing. Taking a moral stand against homesexuality does not equate to acts performed by the Nazis nor the KKK. He has not "called to arms" an army or any group to wipe gay Jews from the face of the earth, he is asking why are we not protesting the fact their government is allowing this display? I have an idea he would also protest the same type of event in the US or any other part of the world, it just so happens to be in a Jewish country.

I respect his right to be an antisemetic homophobe but his intolerance is not a good thing. Why would the Israeli government condemn a lesbian and gay celebration when that lifestyle is legal and accepted in every western civilized country, including ours, on the face of this planet. He is not alone. Neither was Tim Mcvey. Hopefully he will just hate and not hurt others.

The most vocal haters are usually guys like Rev. Haggard. What is We Saw That hiding?

I agree. I note that we saw that has a thing about zionism, which, as I understand it, is the wish of Jews to live in Israel. He actively pulled for the Hezbolah during the recent conflict and is generally antiIsrael, which is OK but makes me wonder about his motive and thought process. He doesn't ever say where he wants the Jews to go but I'm pretty sure that it's not next door to him. Sounds like run of the mill bigotry to me. Is he entitled to it, of course.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like run of the mill bigotry to me.

That word bigot is used much to loosely. That is thrown at anyone who many disagree with. Anytime anyone crtisizes black or Jews, they are called bigots. If you discuss facts or critisize actions of those groups, that is no different from those that critisize Democrats or Repupublicans. I recall someone on this blog using the term "cajun mafia" referring to Mr. Roy, but nobody shouted bigot. Are you people so guilt ridden over the Holocaust and slavery that you do not allow discussion of any topics critical of Black or Jewish activities?

In the dark. said...

What is the discussion regarding Jews and homsexuals about? I missed it.

yes, but said...

Perhaps you can honestly disagree with certain Jewish or Israeli philosophy but most enlightened science now recognizes homosexuality as a genetic predisposition. How can you condemn a genetic dispostion like being gay or caucasian or freckled out of anything but pure bigotry. Being gay must be an enormous burden. Why do people like to pile it on?

The rest of the argument is, of course you can have a philosophical difference without being a bigot just like you can have nude paintings without them being pornography, and like pornography, bigotry is hard to define but most of us know it when we see it.

I don't expect a convert to tolerance. I just have to speak up because it takes people like me to protect people like that from people like you - and I hope there are of a lot of us in America.

Now that the melee has subsided and Jacques Roy has emerged as our new mayor, it is interesting to note that almost 4000 fewer of our citizens failed to participate in the decision process. This plays right into the council's hands that they govern an apathetic electorate. I am sure that Jacques will be most vigilant in establishing the proper boundaries set forth in the charter for the mayor-council relationship, but he cannnot do it alone. All of us have three council members to remind that they are elected to do our bidding and they would be Roosevelt Johnson, Myron Lawson, and your particular district councilman. An effort to inform them of the direction that we wish the city to take is in order.

Anonymous said...

Spanky, I was wondering (concerning the city council) if email(s) to individual coucilmen will/would be an appropriate method to convey citizen wishes or if pretty much it is required to be personally present when promoting ones' ideas/wishes as the electorate regarding city matters??? What say you...

Spanky said...

Phone calls seem to have the greatest impact since a dialogue is conducted. Packing the house at the council meeting helps but all of the business is discussed during the committe meetings throughout the afternoon prior to the official meeting where the agenda is followed and votes cast in rapid succession and short order with little interest in public input.

Anonymous said...

Do you believe it is time to do a "study", maybe a change would be order as far as the methodology, ref the way council "conducts" business... (LOL)

Spanky said...

They are actually required to post agenda matters and allow for public discussion prior to voting for an ordinance. If they were held to account on procedural matters, that would go a long way to address many of the past misdeeds. It is a moot point to discuss removal from office due to failure to follow procedure so soon after re-election since it is up to the remaining council to appoint any replacements. Removal for cause by litigation is the mechanism to be utilized under the charter. It should also be noted that it is their duty to provide for the public's safety and their disregard for our police chief's request for more officers combined with the willingness to discuss spending funds on development projects shows a willful neglect of the public's safety. Malfeasance issues could be involved at that point as the citizenry has expressed the opinion that they concur with Chief Coutee's assessment. More of us must get directly involved, possibly to the point of forming a citizens oversight committee. What say you??

Gentlemen: you are living in a dream world. The council has no incentive to be responsive to the public. We have already declared our total satisfaction with the council's way of doing business. In two years Roosevelt, Fowler, CFS, and Marshall will be up for re-election but the only person in real trouble is CFS. I understand that Fowler will draw at least one opponent and with Fowler's ethics and personality problems, he could be in trouble.

Bullshit!!!

Between June 2001 and September 2004, Cleco placed a number of printing contracts with Mr. Fowler’s company, not one of which exceeded $5,100.00. During the same period of time, Cleco also placed other printing jobs, previously performed in-house, with other local printers. In the year 2002, the total amount of the contracts with Fowlco Printing was $7,200.00. In the year 2003, the total amount of the contracts with Fowlco Printing was approximately $12,200.00. During 2004, the total amount of the contracts with Fowlco Printing was approximately $8,244.53.
IT IS ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED that the Board finds as a matter of fact and as a conclusion of law that Charles L. "Chuck" Fowler, at a time when he served as a councilman for the City of Alexandria, violated Section 1111C(2)(d) of the Code of Governmental Ethics by receiving compensation from Cleco, at a time when Cleco had contractual relationships with the City of Alexandria.

If you can tie that in with some special favor Cleco got for that, then you have something. Otherwise I see nothing unethical. We are not talking about million dollar bank buildings or other expensive property being bought by the city. I doubt if Chuck will run again because he really doesn't need this hassle. His district needs him as do we all, much more than he needs us. Would you put up with all the shit he has to for a piddly amount of compensation? I sure as hell would not. And that is why you can't get anyone worth a shit to run. Why don't you folks on Fowler's ass come up with a comprehensive plan of action for Alex. and go to Fowler and ask for his support. See if he will hear you out and act on the rational aspects of it. Put up something positive and let's see where it gets you. You can book Mayor Roy will be using his expertise more than anyone else on the council. He's all we got so we better use him to the max.

Now I will say this in regards to the fence at the Links - the fact sheet has been available for weeks. In fact, they have discussed it for weeks, but this past meeting Harry acted as if he hadn't heard anything about it before.

He questions everything. Period the end. He is not a rubber stamp. That is a good thing.

Anonymous said...

Fowler can't print for Cleco or any one on the City's vendor list ofr that matter but Myron can sell insurance to anyone and everyone. He also rents space to Bridget. Sounds like a double standard to me!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I feel better about things now. So the only reason that Myron supported Harry's run so vigorously to the point of committing a complete fraud on the democratic party and getting himself in to a world of crap is Myron's interest in good government. There for a minute, I thought Myron might have a personal ulterior motive. I guess we are gonna be OK.

Say what you will about Myron, CFS, and Marshall - the fact remains that the only person in the whole of Alexandria city government to be convicted of conflict of interest and ethics violations is Chuck Fowler. That ain't going away - I promise. That's what's known as a fact. Lawson and the other members of the council and administration all have spotless records, in spite of all the baseless accusations and declarations on this blog and at the water fountain.

Otherwise I see nothing unethical.

How dense are you? The Ethics Board found it unethical, and that his dealings with CLECO violated the law. The Legislature put they Ethics Board in control of such determinations, not you. And thank God for that, if you do not see anything wrong with high utility bills from CLECO, not detected by our City Councel, while Fowler is making thousands of dollars off of CLECO.
The law prohibits politicians from contracting with the one's their agency does business in, so that we DO NOT have to look for and prove anything further. Fowler is a law breaker.
Is your position that you oppose corruption and illegality from politicians you don't like, but think that it's ok from those you do like, such as Fowler?

I am not necessarily defending Mr. Fowler either. $2,100.00 worth of gross legitimate business construed as an ethics violation is hardly noteworthy. What do you figure he netted on that deal and would not he be doing business with Cleco anyway? I have had dealings with the ethics board and they choke on a gnat and swallow a camel. Why would you invoke the race card anyway? I could care less.

spanky justice said...

I only point that out because you are so chagrined by the council misconduct, however, the only proven misconduct is that of Fowler. Perhaps the reason that Fowler got burned was as a warning. Maybe it was just the tip of the iceberg. Myron, on the other hand, has done nothing but piss you off. That does not appear to be a violation of law or ethics. So why the anger and aggression at Lawson? Lawson is educated, successful, a community and religious leader, on the board of Southern University, handily returned to office by the voters - so it must be something else. Let me think . . . . .

I would say that you are jumping to conclusions as the legislative audit report described actions by the council that did not comply with the law and merit further investigation and possible action.
While Myron has been proven a successful businessman with all of the other positive attributes that he posesses, my contention has been and is that he and his voting block have been very successful at dispensing political favoritism at the expense of the greater part of Alexandria, Fast Track being the last glaring example. The very same developers that have been accused of feeding at the public trough have exerted their influence to make that happen. That is not a race issue, but a money and influence issue that has transpired at the expense of other areas of the city. The race issue is a distractive, divisive accusation that clouds the issue of what is beneficial to have our city move forward. We all talk about moving forward in generalities, maybe it is time to be specific and set some benchmarks like population goals, incorporated area figures, average percapita income, etc. I personally will continue to point out illegalities and poor judgement while continuing to promote positive actions in our community. Police, Fire, and all of the other health and safety issues that fall under city functions should be done well. If the city can provide its services with maximum efficiency and high satisfaction, the atmosphere that would be created will draw capital investment. That is why I contend that the city council oersteps its boundaries when it delves into marina projects and sport complexes and all of the other economic development project that they have discussed. I contend that if they did their job well, the result would be a well-planned, safe, and attractive city that would be attractive to economic development.

First of all let me observe that your beligerent tone reminds me a a previous contributor who had his radar locked on the issue of "take home" vehicles.

The problem is that the law is not being equally enforced. The whole Fowler issue came to light when Chuck asked the Ethics Board for an opinion. He was not "busted" on anything. Well that ruling says he cannot do business with anyone having a contract with the City nor with any one who is a vendor to the City. Apply that same standard to Myron: who in the hell doesn't need insurance. Bridgett has contracts with the City and rents space from Myron.

Unequal enforcement, not enforcement in general is my complaint.

You are wrong on your facts. He was found unethical with CLECO DATED: February 9, 2006 OPINION NO: 2005-189.
After that he did have the sense to ask who he could do business with in his request for an opinion in: Charles L. Fowler, Jr.

RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 2006-282

Dear Mr. Fowler:

The Board of Ethics, at its April 13, 2006, meeting, considered your request for an advisory opinion . Bottom line is that Fowler did violate the Ethics statutes. Please get the facts straight.

Admitting my lack of formal education I must ask a question relative to the City of Alexandria Government and government in general.

It would seem to me that folks form governments and government agencies in order to provide, collectively, services to the multitude that the multitude is unable to provide itself as individuals. Does marina's come under that descriptions.

Another cute thing about this area for those that think racial bigotry is not present in Alexandria and practiced on the part of our elected "school board" members of color I offer the following. The official publication of a special Rapides parish School Board meeting held to fire two individuals was recently published in the Town Talk. These two individuals were a "team", supposedly were guilty of the exact same thing and were fired for the same infraction. During this special meeting Herbet Dixon brought up a motion to suspend the Black employee for 3 months and to fire the white employee.

Now all you liberal, ciolor blind folks that kep posting the use of race is argumentative and intended to change the focus of an issue need to dwell upon this action. Two people supposedly guilty of the same infraction and Hebert Dixon (isn't he some kind of union head and supposed to equally represent folks) wants the black treated differently than the white fellow. And you'll gonna convince me all that is desired is equality?

Oh and I forgot to add Rodessa Metoyer who never met a white person she likes left the meeting before a vote was taken. She didn't vote at all.

Speaking of the Rapides Parish School Board Maintenace Department I have wondered why the Board felt the need to hire a person from Oakdale to run that Department. Seems strange there are no qualified people in Rapides Parish.

Is it true that the head of the Maintenance Department had a maintenance employee fill up a weed eater and blower with School Board gas and took them home to work in his yard?

How many more ethical violations are occurring.

I heard in the wind that air conditioning maintenance personnel were doing electrical wiring at Buckeye football field. Shouldn't running of conduit and electrical circuits be done by licensed electricians?

To add a little more information the Rapides Parish School Board Maintenance Department personnel were threatened with being fired if they showed up to testify and tell the truth at the special Board meeting held to fire the two employees.
Seems as though we need these employees placed under oath and questioned.

Should have said fill up a school board weed eater and school board leaf blower with school board gas and he then took them home to work in his yard

Here's the REAL question - has there ever been a request for a determination if Myron can rent to Bridgett? If he can, is she still eligible to receive city contracts? Until we have those questions addressed by the Attorney General's office, they will continue to do as they are with no regard for the apprearance of unethical practices. Perhaps our new Mayor and his new City Attorney should request an opinion. This may bring about one way to end Bridgett's career as a contractor for the City. That or she will have to find new office space.

On the other hand, does anyone know whether or not Myron owns the building outright? Is it possible she and Myron own it together in a partnership or some other type of business structure? If that is the case, then you would still need the AG opinion about whether his business partner could receive contracts from the City.

After Bridget collects$1,200,000.00 from the Cleco case, she can get her own building.

Any question of Myron and Bridgette renting tohether should be addressed to the State Ethics Board, not the Attorney General.
