And then there were two ...

A little behind ... apologies citizens

With time creeping up and a nasty primary behind us, one would presume that things will only get nastier.

Ahh, politics ... left out sentences, presumptions of guilt, need I go on? Such is Louisiana politics. We've taught everyone else this speciality.

The question is which party will bring the biggest gun to this knife fight?

Republican Appreciation Dinner
Co-hosted by Cong. Rodney Alexander and Cong. Bobby Jindal
Tuesday, Oct. 10th 6pm
Cenla Shriner's Club
$25 a person -- Dinner

Anonymous said...

who in the world would appreciate rodney "i cover up online child sexual predators" alexander and piuysh "bobby fast talking bull shit artist" jindal?
they both lick the boots of the bush crime family. they both should be turned out of congress.

Anonymous said...

We,

Don't worry, Jindal will be out of Congress soon. He will be your next governor.....so you should get used to hearing him talk.

I do enjoy your take on local politics and agree with you most of the time. But your "conspiracy theory" on the Bush's is a little too "fringe" for my blood. Why do your liberals have to be such haters?

Anonymous said...

let us ask you and and the rest of those that support the criminal network: why do you hate america?
how do you justify supporting people that are and have transformed america into a police state?

Anonymous said...

What about the Alexander employee that was writing Scott Pederson? Heard she got a new job..........

Anonymous said...

and would that new job be working for "the other" party?

Anonymous said...

we saw that.....The page in question was over 18 years old when the most explicit instant messages were transmitted, so -- from what I learned in the nineties this is a 'private matter between consenting adults.'"

We must stop the politics of personal destruction. We must get rid of the poisonous venom of excessive partnership, excessive animosity, and uncontrolled anger. That is not what American deserves.

Anonymous said...

I think it great that they are coming to town. It will just remind all the Demos what party BREWER is from

Anonymous said...

Ned going to support Jindal and Rodney too? That turncoat. I will make it my life mission to work with all my might against any political office or job that MAYOR NED tries to get with the demo run state.

Anonymous said...

"The page in question was over 18 years old when the most explicit instant messages were transmitted, so -- from what I learned in the nineties this is a 'private matter between consenting adults.'""

Hahaha. You're DEFENDING this guy. So what if one of the pages was 18 years old? He wasn't the only page, and Foley definitely contacted minors.

Anonymous said...

what america and the rest of the world deserves are people in our congress that will stand up for the constitution and the bill of rights.

rodney alexander, piyush "bobby" jindal, jim mccrery, richard baker, charlie boustany, charlie melancon as well as mary landrieu and david vitter, have consistently shown time and time again their contempt of and for the constitution and true american values.

only william "bill" jefferson has consistently voted for our rights and people wonder why he is in so much trouble. hmmmmm.

we are selling out our children and our childrens children to a criminal network. a cradle to grave total survellience police state. how they will hate and curse us for it.

someday we all are going to stand before a holy and just god and give account of our actions here on earth. the illegal and immoral iraq war god will hold us all accountable for that as well as who knows what else our criminal government is doing around the world. someone has to be held accountable for not only the american servicemen that have needlessly died but also for all the slain innocent iraqi men, women and children.

at genesis chapter 4 verse 10 god said to cain "...the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground."

this is just one person. how loud the voices of those slain in iraq, afghanistan et al must cry out to god for vengence and justice.

america's day of judgement is rapidly approaching - you can place your faith in proven traitors like ol piyush or rodney or george w bush but you do so at your own peril.

"be not deceived god is not mocked for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap." galations chapter 6 verse 7.

Three More Former Pages Accuse Foley of Online Sexual Approaches
abc news snip:
Three more former congressional pages have come forward to reveal what they call "sexual approaches" over the Internet from former Congressman Mark Foley.

"I was seventeen years old and just returned to [my home state] when Foley began to e-mail me, asking if I had ever seen my page roommates naked and how big their penises were," said the page in the 2002 class.

The former page also said Foley told him that if he happened to be in Washington, D.C., he could stay at Foley's home if he "would engage in oral sex" with Foley.

hmmm looks like the plot thickens...

Anonymous said...

"And wow....the Democrats have a lot to be proud of when it comes to sexual relationships with pages."

Scarlett, welcome back. Was there a story about Democrats having sexual relationships with PAGES? Or are you referring to Monica Lewinsky?

Just want to clear up any misspeaks.

Did Robert Beck every get Delores Brewers emails from his public records request or is she still objecting?

Anonymous said...

oh and scarlett your comment about us is rather inexplicable since republicans are alledgedly the party for the religious right. so when someone makes a comment that could be interpreted as coming from a religious right view point republicans write the commentator off as a nutcase. hmm what does that say about republicans?

Scarlett's policy is to attack those who object to republican dishonesty. I don't mind them finding the $$$ in Jefferson's freezer or discussing the Bay of Pigs F U. I understand that democrats make mistakes and I want them to be caught and held responsible. Scarlett hates truth and justice. She is just like poor George: if you say that Iraq caused 9/11 often and loud enough, sooner or later it become truth. If you say Delores didn't lie and Foley didn't suck underage peckers enough, it will be true. but it never works. Soothsayer and Biff will always see thru you.

Anonymous said...

lmao jay thanx fror clearing that up.

Anonymous said...

scarlett, i hear your girl hired roy fletcher. watch out.

he'll turn delores into a liar who 75% of people voted against into a liar 95% of people vote against.

Anonymous said...

Scarlett, I'm so glad you are back. We were running out of shallow excuse mongers to attack. I missed you.

Anonymous said...

I would suggest that the hiring of Roy Fletcher may in and of itself be contrary to Brewers election night pledge not to go negative. However, perhaps she needs to be completely forthcoming with Fletcher before he casts the first stone. Incidentally as if Brewer did already not have the demographics to support her candidacy, she should ask some of the Republicans about how they feel about Fletcher. She would find out that if in fact she hired him that in and of itself will divide her very small Republican base. Her campaign song seems to be that Paul Simon favorite, Slip Slidin Away.

Anonymous said...

I have figured it every way possible. Roy beat Brewer in every demographic and is the most likely recipient of all the other candidate's support except the Sams contingent which won't really matter. Smith talks like he wants to help Brewer but his hand-full of votes won't align with Brewer, even if Smith could deliver it won't get her there.

I have been trying to understand the "why" of it and can only figure that Roy will win because he is Roy. I don't think anybody could have beat him.

Anonymous said...

She is ruining her political future if any and perhaps hurting her friends.

Anonymous said...

anon - biff was a sams supporter who's openly posted in here that he now supports roy. dont look for many sams voters to support brewer. people are ready for a young energetic person to inspire and energize them again.

and btw we are neither democrats, republicans nor libertarians - we are no party.

Scarlett you have said NOT a word about the Brewer election. Give us your insight and analysis. Please

CAROLYNS DAUGHTER said...

Scarlet, I am truly glad your back.

I'm still hopeful Delores wins. She is the most honest and down to earth candidate.

Try to ignore these negative bloggers.

Anonymous said...

I respect Scarlett. I just wanted to hear what she honestly thought about the election and what she thinks Brewer can do to win.

Anonymous said...

We might be blaming the wrong person. Brewer is an intelligent realistic pragmatic person but she is set upon by certain parasitic forces that need her to hang on at any cost. In November they will leave her on the scrap heap of their greed and she will end up working the breakfast bar at Shoney's while her users try to sneak back up to the legal fee trough.

A Roseanne by any other name would smell as sweet.

My heart goes out to Delores.

Anonymous said...

You may be right. I hope she will come to realze that the best thing is to cut her loses and allow some of her supporters to mend fences with Roy. I have heard him say that he is willing to forgive and forget ,however, i am sure there is a limit to that too.

Anonymous said...

My dear Carolyn, you and Scarlett are the only people on the planet that need additional clarification on the "misspeak" and "figure of speech" issue. Mayor Randolph cleared that up about 20 minutes after it happened.

She needs to admit that she lied to cover for poor Ned who is scared to death of Kelvin and Bridget. She did it out of misguided loyalty to Ned and got the standard ungrateful screwing that fall-guys normally get. She should say it and be done with it.

Anonymous said...

and that is bullshit. There was no LOYALTY involved. She was cleared shitless by someone she should not have been scared of and she lied and ran away like a little girl. Hardly leadership materia. Lets not sugar coat it. That is exactly what happend. That alone would be bad but the subsequent LIES are not forgivable . And that isnt Dirty politics thats just the truth.

beck got the emails and phone records; phone records showed she was using city cell phone to call swiney way back in march and february. The only emails sent were recipes; in other words the rest were purged. Delores was actually exchanging recipes with people while chief of staff. No need for roy to use this since she provides far more damaging information when she grants interviews like the last one right before the election when she proved all of the mailout points about the housing authority.

Anonymous said...

Rick Ranson was actively supporting Delores before her weak showing in the primary. Does he have some sort of rabbit he will pull out of the hat for the general election? A more realistic way to look at it is that he may responsible for her inching our

Carla used too but she is no longer there. Paul is happy to see me. Gene does also. We will not go into who or whom the waitresses talk to. Rumour has it one carries on a conversation with herself and gets pissed if you interupt.

So I hardly think speakeing or not speaking to someone at Red Kettle is indicative of whether or not your mayoral material. What counts is the biscuits and gravy, sausage and large milk.

Harold, while not a bad person, is not suited for a position in our City's government and his appointment will create nothing but unreconcilible conflict.

"Anyone that has known Harold can tell you that the retoric Jacques is spouting has been coming from harold. He has been saying the same thing for years. He figures that with a new mayor, he can reassert his influence."

That's ridiculous. Jacques is running on his own platform, and Harold Chambers has nothing to do with it.

Chambers may be supporting Jacques's campaign, but that's only because he recognizes that Jacques is the best candidate, not because they've worked out any deal. Roy has stated from the beginning that Chambers is not part of his campaign team and will not be a part of his administration.

Instead of listening to people who claim to know Harold, why don't you ask people who know Jacques?

They were wounded and dying and he would not even show his face, yet you have the audacity to be offended b/c Roy didn't speak to your mother?!?

Anonymous said...

Boy, I will sleep better now that carolyn has given us her heroes. What a self indulged delusional poster she has turned out to be. Would someone please tell her how great her husband was so we can all get over her whining.
Her husband was the epitome of the "peter principle" as police chief and ,apparently , it is now her mission to be his apologist.

Anonymous said...

This really shouldn't be about kicking Carolyn. I would just like her to understand that most people simply to not see things the way that she does. This doesn't mean that she is wrong - or that others are wrong. She supports Delores because she had a major role in influencing Ned to appoint her husband as chief. Many of us see that appointment as one of Ned's serious and vital failures. She, like her husband in his barely literate attempt and a novel, put blame for his monumental failure on everyone else. Most of us assign the blame to him. The community disprespected him, the police force hated and resented him, and community race relations were set back 25 years because of him. This is not Carolyn's fault but her blind defense of him colors our view of her judgment and reminds us of a perceived low point in the Randolph/Brewer administration.

Anonymous said...

Carolyn you made no point. Just your typical rambling incoherent bullshit. You stated because Roy doesn't speak to your Mother at the Red Kettle he is somehow unfit to be mayor. Ned has been to Red Ketle - he didn't speak to me. Judge Bow Tie comes into Red Kettle and he doesn't speak to me. So speaking or not speaking in Red Kettle is no indicator of ability to serve in a position.

As usual your logic is illogical. You were doing better when your main whining subject was "stand by your man" and whinning because "somebody done Tommy wrong song".

I always wondered why a certain poster always tells you to STFU. Turns out that is an intelligent person.

I have a quesion - does Roy know your mother? If not is he supposed to come into Red Kettle just overflowing with rhetoric. I go there to eat not fratenize with people I don't know.

So Carolyn STFU, get a life.

Anonymous said...

Oh yes Carolyn I forgot to add you initiated this response by your comment implying being anon is somehow deviant. Your "evaluation" of me because I desire to remain anonymous doesn't tell you anything about me. You, IMHAO don't have the mental capablity to fathom anything about anyone. I care not what you think about me.

Your constantly defending a former Chief who allowed Officers to play cowboy and enter a house where there is a known armed felon desiriring to kill cops when there were numerous other safer methods available to root out the piece of crap tells me a lot about you. Your "leetle gray cells" arn't functioning properly. You will not let the matter die. Your better half, despite all the books he writes and you constant whining, will never be adjuged right. I wish she could have stuck to her personal feeling about the election and community without making herself a target for her husband's long overdue blame. Carolyn didn't do these things and shouldn't have to answer for it. I wish she hadn't read Tommy's self-serving self-excusing self-congratulating self-pitying attempt at a novel. we saw that, calling President Bush a crime family you seem to forget so much of the shit that Clinton pulled while he was supposedly trying to be a president. He made a mockery of the office!

Of all the whoppers told by former President Clinton in his Chris
Wallace interview, perhaps the most outrageous was his claim that he was
involved in "trying to stop a genocide in Kosovo…" In fact, Clinton's
bombing of the former Yugoslavia killed more people than died in this
"genocide." And his policy benefited Osama bin Laden and the global Jihad.

In the year before the bombing, some 2,000 people had been killed in a
civil war in Kosovo. A conservative estimate is that 6,000 were killed
by U.S. and NATO bombs.

It's strange as well that Clinton complained to Wallace about the
"neocons" attacking him when many of the same neocons in 1999 supported
Clinton's war on Yugoslavia. The war was never approved by the U.N. or the
U.S. Congress, and in fact violated the War Powers Act. The main
beneficiary of the intervention was a Muslim terrorist group, the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA), with links to bin Laden, who had declared war on
America in 1996, bombed our embassies in Africa in 1998, and would later,
of course, orchestrate 9/11.

When former CIA official Michael Scheuer says that the Clinton
Administration "had eight to ten chances" to kill bin Laden and "they refused
to try," he is making a statement that goes far beyond acknowledging
Clinton Administration incompetence or a lack of will. The fact is that
Clinton had a pro-Muslim foreign policy that actually benefited bin Laden
and facilitated 9/11. Most Republicans don't mention this because too
many of them were duped into backing Clinton's misguided policy in
Kosovo. President Bush, then a candidate, even backed U.S. military
intervention there through NATO.

Scheuer's CIA also has a lot to answer for. It is noteworthy that the
CIA issued a January 2000 report that essentially whitewashed the nature
of the KLA and claimed it was pro-American. The only public release of
this dubious report came through Rep. Elliot Engel, in a posting on the
website of the National Albanian American Council, which supports an
Albanian Muslim takeover of Kosovo.

That report was prepared under CIA Director George Tenet, who on
February 2, 1999, gave testimony referring to the Serb "massacre at Raçak,"
which provided the pretext for NATO intervention against Serbia but
which turned out to be a hoax. Tenet was, of course, kept on by President
Bush. Not only were Tenet's fingerprints all over the failed and
deceptive policy in Kosovo, he told Bush that finding weapons of mass
destruction in Iraq was a slam dunk.

Interestingly, Al-Jazeera celebrated the fifth anniversary of 9/11 by
airing several al-Qaeda videos, one of which showed two of the 9/11
hijackers saying their actions were designed to avenge the suffering of
Muslims in Bosnia and Chechnya. Nothing demonstrates the bankruptcy of the
Clinton policy more than that. Not only did Clinton order the CIA to
help the KLA in Kosovo, he approved Iranian arms shipments to the Bosnian
Muslims, in order to help them establish a Muslim state in Bosnia.
Still, that wasn't good enough for the Jihadists. Nothing appeases them.

The Clinton policy of supporting the same extremist Muslim forces in
Europe that subsequently attacked us on 9/11 is far more controversial
than the policy of regime change in Iraq, which was officially a policy
of Clinton, Bush and the Congress. Kosovo was never a threat to the
U.S., and Serbia didn't even pretend to have weapons of mass destruction.

At least in Iraq, despite some questionable intelligence, the cause is
just. The U.S. removed a dictator and is fighting for democracy and
against the terrorists. The neocons got it right here. Such a policy may
in the short term provoke a strong anti-American reaction, as Al-Jazeera
rallies the foreign fighters to Iraq to kill Americans, but it is
vastly preferable to the Clinton policy of helping Muslim radicals come to
power in places like Bosnia or Kosovo. What's more, as the National
Intelligence Estimate (NIE) acknowledges, in a statement that has been
curiously played down by most of the media, a victory in Iraq would deflate
the forces of global Jihad.

Our media like to talk about Iraq, because they think the issue will
damage Bush, but Kosovo gets no mention, except when Clinton himself or
former officials of his administration bring it up and claim it as a
foreign policy success. There is no coverage of the anti-Christian Jihad
underway there. But seven years after the illegal Kosovo intervention,
the September 15 Washington Post reports on a new World Bank study on
fragile or failing states that "can breed terrorism." One of them is
listed as Kosovo, which is not a state—not yet. Actually, in the report
itself, Kosovo is identified as a "territory," not a province of Serbia,
but the point remains valid. Kosovo is identified as being "outside the
control of a recognized and reputable government," offering "fertile
soil on which terrorism could thrive." Terrorism is thriving there, of
course, because it was Clinton's official policy to support the terrorist
KLA and remove Kosovo from Serbian control.

The result was captured by the summer 1999 U.N. Association newsletter,
The Interdependent, which showed Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine
Albright on the cover with her thumb in the air. The headline was:
"Kosovo: The U.N. Takes Charge."

Seven years later, the U.N. is still in charge.

The growing danger in Kosovo is compounded by the fact that the problem
gets almost no attention in our media, which reported the false charges
of genocide that provided the pretext for the military intervention in
the first place but still refuse to correct the record and hold
Clinton, Albright and then-NATO Commander, General Wesley Clark, responsible
for what they have done.

The media blackout is what enables Albright, in a lecture on religion
and international affairs at Georgetown University on September 18, to
declare, "Of all that we accomplished during my time in office, I'm
proudest of what we did in Kosovo because we stopped the killing, and
people are back in Kosovo living a free life."

A free life when Christian Serbs are fleeing and their homes and
churches in Kosovo are being destroyed? Albright's outrageous comments
provide the answer in stark terms to the question: Whose side was the Clinton
Administration on in the clash of civilizations between Islam and the
West? All of the "missed opportunities" to kill bin Laden, and the
interventions on behalf of Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo, didn't give us
anything but more anti-American attacks, more terrorism, and finally, 9/11.

Compounding the failure of the Clinton policy in Kosovo, the George
Soros-funded International Crisis Group recently released a report saying
that the international community "must avoid creating a weak state" and
that the territory must have its own army. Left unsaid is that it would
be an army dominated by former members of the KLA. That would be the
ultimate reward for terrorism. The terrorists would become the official
army of Kosovo.

Buried in the report, on page 8, you will find an interesting piece of
information. It states that "A tiny but growing minority is turning to
Wahhabi Islam," the dangerous brand of Sunni Islam underwritten by
Saudi Arabia, which is also financing the building of many mosques in
Kosovo. But this should come as no surprise. That element was always there,
nurtured by the Clinton policy. Now it gathers force again, just as it
did before 9/11.

Serbian President Boris Tadic was in the U.S. recently, on the eve of
the anniversary of 9/11, but failed to make any public comments about
the status of Kosovo in the context of the global war against radical
Islam. That was a glaring oversight. He failed to educate the American
people about the stakes involved in the proposed dismemberment of the
Serbian Republic. His article in the Washington Post, "Justice for Serbia,"
was similarly flawed in this respect, focusing on the admittedly
important issue of Serbian sovereignty but ignoring the religious dimensions
of this conflict.

It won't be enough to oppose independence for Kosovo. The terrorism
problem will remain regardless of whether it is a province, territory or a
state. But a U.S. position against independence will at least reflect
belated recognition that the Clinton policy of encouraging terrorism in
Kosovo has finally come to an end. The Bush Administration must side
with Serbia in this important chapter in the clash of civilizations.

Carolyn and Billary both enjoy the same country song "STAND BY YOUR MAN."

"YOU GONNA BELIEVE YOUR EYES OR WHAT I AM TELLING YOU."

Anonymous said...

Carolyn, I am sorry for all the personal attacks. I think we all underestimated to negative feelings of anger and betrayal that the community feels toward your husband. Perhaps a better posture for you to take is that your husband's detractors should take their issues up directly with him and allow you to be your own person with your own opinions trying to help you community.

You were a sincere contributor and I hope you return.

he attack on her started because of her attack on others challenging her position on politics you dipstick. Tommie got drug into the fight because of her. She bashed Roy for not speaking to her mother - that kind, caring, loving person, at Red Kettle. As if this impacts a persons ability to govern. What it does do is show the unintelligent factors fools use in deciding the candidate they are backing.

Anonymous said...

In order to ellicit sympathy and make a grand, dramatic exit while appearing mortally wounded due to undeserved attacs Carolyn deleted her controversial postings. One could note that prior to each "attack frenzy" there is a deleted post. This was Carolyn's stupidity relative to those supporting Roy and the responding post were just that - responding o her craziness.

Someone should inform her where the word sympathy is found in the dictionary - between shit and syphllis.

Well, OK, lets assume for a moment that she is as entitled to vote against him for not being nice to mama is someone is to vote for him because he is a cute little guy or to vote against Delores because they don't like her husband. Do you think you help the Roy campaign when you react by calling her a stupid bitch? Let her talk and let her feel what she feels. She is the only female Delores supporter who has declared the need for Delores cleaning up some raw hanging issues on her honesty.

OK, we've got Ashley Simpson and you want Margaret Thatcher but maybe you are not the genius you consider yourself either. Anyway, I know Mr. Roy and he would beseech you to be nice.

look its fine if people dont like the cicardos thats your right. stop and consider for a minute the three men that died that day. what about their family and friends, who, for all we know read this blog. how do you think they must feel to read this and have their great loss reduced to silly political posturing for some backwater mayoral race? three men died that day. three families were forever changed. stop and think about someone else's feelings for a minute.

Anonymous said...

Whether or not it helps or hurts the Roy campaign is not the issue. The stupid bitch assesses the ability to govern by ones actions in the Red Kettle. This is an intelligent basis to speak negatively of a candidate. Brewer is the one that got her husband in as Chief so it is understandeable Carolyn owes her loyalty. Delores is the one that doesn't need the dumb ass speaking publically.

If the stupid Bitch is gonna attack she should expect receiving the same. Not call others assholes and stupid and then publish her little pity posting. It ain't about Roy it is about her personally attackting others. Conviently she deleted her attacks. Fugg her.

Scarlett, you are woman, hear you roar. It's all about how the city needs a woman and nobody giving a woman credit for being a capable executive and political leader and then, when somebody holds a woman responsible for what she says and does and thinks and promotes, then "how dare we pick on a poor defenseless woman". In golf, you get to start from a different Tee box but in politics we all have the same rules and exposures and liabilities. They are not holding Carolyn responsible for what Tommy did. They are taking her to task for what she did and said and believes and defends. You really do women a major disservice when you start that petticoat crap.

One calls to mind all the unkind cheap shots you took at Lamar when he exposed your hypocracy. If you don't want to participate, you need to stay on your personal bar stool and the Grill and let the adult men and women participate in this exchange.

Anonymous said...

Antics, I initally enjoyed reading your blog because of the sincere political discussions about moving the city forward. But, this has really deteriorated into a hate filled voice of the community. Even this is taking free speech a little too far. I think I'll do like several others before and exit stage left. But, not without warning you, that other "blogkeepers" across the country have been sued for the defamatory comments posted about citizens. You really should be careful because everyone in town knows who you are and this can't be making you any friends or helping your business. Just a thought...

In a city as this, where the good old boy system prevails, it is no wonder that, when presented with an anonymous forum, the citizens of Alexandria have let the mud fly. This is the first chance I've ever seen for the truth to get out there without people endangering their jobs, their families, and/or their reputations.

While I do not share all of the negative views about the people discussed on this blog (except for the things about Sams), I do agree with the concept that if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Don't expect people to hold back when they've been confronted with an issue they feel strongly about, and often have been forbidden from making comments on.

Blogger said...

Anonymous 4:46,

Yeah, anonymous blogging has allowed many people to share "open secrets" about Alexandria at little risk to their careers or their families.

Because when you decide to use your real name on this forum, you're taking a risk, particularly if people in the community still have unanswered questions.

However, to the blogger who stated that the courts have ruled you can't go after anonymous writers on the Internet, you should double check the law. Defamation is still defamation, no matter where it happens.

So yes, if an offended and overly litigious person really wanted to, they sue for defamation and possibly shut the blog down... and if they REALLY wanted to, they may be able to get a court order to find out the identity of any "anonymous" writer alleged with defamation.

Just something to think about. Personally, I believe in the right of anonymity, and I would never sue an anonymous writer. (IMHO, that would be absolutely ridiculous, and it wouldn't help anything). But not everyone in town feels the same way I do about protecting anonymity, particularly if they're the offended party.

Just something to think about.

Blogger said...

So yes, if an offended and overly litigious person really wanted to, they COULD sue for defamation....

Anonymous said...

Lamar White - the resident possesor of all knowledge.

"The major areas of concern are the issues of proprietary or confidential information, and defamation. Several cases have been brought before the national courts against bloggers and the courts have returned with mixed verdicts. In John Doe v. Patrick Cahill, the Delaware Supreme Court held that stringent standards had to be met to unmask anonymous bloggers, and also took the unusual step of dismissing the libel case itself (as unfounded under American libel law) rather than referring it back to the trial court for reconsideration."

Anonymous said...

Junior is not only gonna remake downtown forcing white folks to go there but is now a legal advisor. Anybody can sue anybody for anything. That is a fact not bullshit like you spread Lamar.

Winning a suit is another matter.

Anonymous said...

I think Lamar must enjoy self flagellation, but I am bored with his unhealthy psychological rantings. Public officials are fair game as are candidates for public office. Just can't stand freedom can ya' fella! And as far as Carolyn's and Scarlet's used to be high school student council mentality, which is now junior high antics, I can barely continue comments when they are in the conversation. I don't think they would recognize a concept if it ----whatever!

Blogger said...

No, I don't enjoy self-flagellation. I just sometimes forget how incredibly unpopular I am on this blog.

You should never forget that Jr. However, one would think you could have left the word blog of the sentence.

Always wondered why you don't stay on your own blog with your wonderful proclamations based upon your advanced knowledge of the the needs of Alexandria. Why do you come over here and share your cornucopia of liberal knowledge?

Many say that Roy is our next mayor; if so, no mayor can run a succesful administration by himself. Who does Roy plan on putting in key positions in his admin? Will they be political paybacks or truly competent and skilled indviduals. To uderstand the magnitude of the situation, here's what's we need to know. Who will fill each of the following:

Chief of Staff
Director of Utilities
Director of Public Works
Director of Finance
City Attorney
Capital Projects Coordinator
Community Services Director

These answers are the first barometer on the continued strength of the "Old Guard."

Anonymous said...

maybe one of our copy & paste masters will send your question to mgodard@kalb.com and she can ask both candidates on their upcoming video blog & forum.

Blogger said...

Eh. If there were any actual news going on in the mayor's race, I'd blog about it, but there's really nothing to report. Plus, we're still an entire month away from the election.

Things will probably kick back up in a week.

At least there's something to report on the Congressional race.

To the second anonymous, you keep it up. You inspire me.

Anonymous said...

7:09:23 speak for yourself. I found Lamar's point of view interesting and useful back when he had one and avoided words like "you rock!" At some point he either melted down, lost interest or (most likely) became weiry of the petty nasty hostile stuff and went his own way. At any rate, a good mind is a terrible thing to waste or abuse. I hope he comes back sans the pubescent lingo and joins the discussion. Cool?

Blogger said...

I'm here. Haven't really left. It's just hard to engage in a discussion with people who seem to be more interested in personalities than in ideas and facts. I think most of the bloggers on Cenla Antics probably feel the same way-- sometimes, the blog is filled with good information and insight, and sometimes it's filled with anonymous attacks on a certain personality. Occasionally fun to read... but ultimately unproductive.

Either way, you rock.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Lamar is a liberal. He is espousing the philosophy of the classical socialist and should be identified as such. A rose by any other name,,,,,,

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:20

You left off one position on your list: Director of Planning.

It is also important to note that the Chief of Staff and Capital Project Coordinator are not required by the City Charter. ned created these positions himself. Our next Mayor (Jacques Roy) may choose to organize his administration differently.

Anonymous said...

Ahhh a new thread! Bravo to Cenla Antics, and thank you.

The focus of the new thread seems to be the fringe of the mayor's run-off and the current state of the Republicans in DC.

As to the Mayor's race the choice seems clear. If you like the direction that the COA has taken in the last three years, vote for Brewer. She has not shown anyone that she wishes to disrupt the status quo. BTW slick campaign commercials which spout the same old retoric don't count.

If you want to change direction and proceed down a different path, vote for Roy. He has stated the things he will change, and as of yet, has not lied to the public. Also, his willingness to get involved in the Cleco debacle, when no other attorney in Alexandria would touch it, shows a certain courage.

The turmoil in DC is the making of the media. The two people most responsible for the page sex scandal have resigned their post and departed. Let's get back to the nation's business shall we?

Survey says...The mayor's race will heat up soon enough, and the lines that separate the two candidates will become much more distinct in coming weeks.

The page sex scandal will have little or no effect on the results of the November elections.

The feathers and bones have spoken.

Anonymous said...

Oh, and one more thing....There are four words which amount to a "get out of jail free" card for anyone concerned with a defamation suit. Begin each post with "IMHO" or In My Humble Opinion.

You can say anything about anybody and get away with it as long as you let the public know it's your opinion. Ann Coulter proved that.....

Blogger said...

"In John Doe v. Patrick Cahill, the Delaware Supreme Court held that stringent standards had to be met to unmask anonymous bloggers...."

Stringent standards is the key phrase. No one's saying it's unconstitutional to reveal anonymous bloggers identities-- just that standards have to be met that would justify doing so.

Anonymous said...

So, using city cell phone for personal and political uses is perfectly ok. I gather that no one sees anything wrong with it. Right?

Anonymous said...

Of course a ruling by the Deleware Supreme Court has no authority outside the State of Deleware. So you are not a chicken shit lier, just still ignorant.

Anonymous said...

Blog Legal Info at: http://www.eff.org/bloggers/lg/faq-defamation.php.

Can my opinion be defamatory?
No — but merely labeling a statement as your "opinion" does not make it so. Courts look at whether a reasonable reader or listener could understand the statement as asserting a statement of verifiable fact. (A verifiable fact is one capable of being proven true or false.) This is determined in light of the context of the statement. A few courts have said that statements made in the context of an Internet bulletin board or chat room are highly likely to be opinions or hyperbole, but they do look at the remark in context to see if it's likely to be seen as a true, even if controversial, opinion ("I really hate George Lucas' new movie") rather than an assertion of fact dressed up as an opinion ("It's my opinion that Trinity is the hacker who broke into the IRS database").

If you try to blog anonymously through a third-party service, you may be subject to subpoenas seeking your identity from your blogging service provider.

Blogger said...

Thank you for the explanation.

Anonymous said...

readers ought to understand that the comments they make on the site of their favorite bloggers could potentially get those bloggers enmeshed in litigation with outside sources. Should a blogger notice a reader comment that might attract attention and possible litigation, it may be best for that comment to be deleted, lest it actually bring about unwelcome legal attention. At the very least, this may be the best course of action to follow until a substantial body of case law exists to protect bloggers from frivolous litigation.

Anonymous said...

I beg to differ. My original statement was Courts have ruled. One would think a court in Deleware meets the description of "a Court." But again, not being as great a legal mind as you and Lamar what do I know.

Maybe the ignorant one is you in that you fail to understand and comprehend the English language. Hablo Espanyole? (wonder what that means if anything.) Spreaken ze Deutsch? Parle vous Francais? Cause you sure as hell can't comprehend Anglish.

Anonymous said...

To the blogger who said Charlie Nunnally should be put on board for 6 months in the Roy administration: I certainly hope that you ain't a Roy supporter spoutin that kind of nonsense. It's an unfortunate thing but Nunnally self destructed. He had a great brain that he stopped using along the way. It would not send the right signal to those who want change to put him up there.

Anonymous said...

Regarding City Cell Phone use for personal business. The City policy allows employees to use City cell phones for personal use. Employees must reimburse the City for the cost of the calls or for 25% of the total monthly bill. That is the policy....so your beef is with the administration, not the employees.

Anonymous said...

roy's smarter than that. he and his close advisers can build a team without nunally. crutchfield and other dept. people can tell him what he needs to know about budget, operations, etc.

Anonymous said...

I'M THINKING OF THE SCKUNK CAUSE THE CELL PHONE THING STINKS EVEN IF ITS ADMINISTRATION POLICY.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I don't think I agree with your Nunnally assessment. Nunnally went bad because he succumbed to the family curse but he knew and understood Alexandria city government and he was not run off for being a drunk, he was fired because he displeased the council members by, among other things, trying to remove Marshall because of his weapons conviction. He would be a valuable tool on a transition team and his authority would be limited by the short tenure of his service and an intelligent active mayor. Roy is young, eager and impatient and I doubt he wants to re-invent the wheel. The department heads are still intact but somebody needs the big picture. Ned won't be any help and Roy knows better than to trust Albin, Kelvin or Bridgett (all of whom will get a letter in the first 48 hours of the Roy administration). Just think about it.

Anonymous said...

Cell phone policy needs changing. City employees should have to list all personal calls and pay that amount. Or better yet how about not allowing personal calls other than to spouses or kids...and they have to pay back for those. It would be hard to enforce i guess.

Anonymous said...

Lampert is an ex-city attorney and Roy speaks well of him and seems to respect his efforts and motivation. Maybe he could be some help in a transition operation. Anybody the council dislikes has a pretty good recommendation. Questionable whether he would want to be involved after his election rejection.

Anonymous said...

Nunnally was let go because he stopped working--period. No one could get him to do anything. Administration, council, nobody. He spent about maybe 2 hours a day at the office. he was warned that he needed to straighten up. he didn't listen. His buddy chambers agreed he had to go. his own father told people around town that he understood why his son had to be let go. if it was b/c of the family curse that he wasn't working and he is better now that's the best news i've heard in a long time.

Anonymous said...

It makes sense to have top-level decision makers available 24/7 which a cellphone can provide. Allowing private use of that cell fone is a tiny price to pay for their committment to constant availability. It would be unreasonable to ask these civilians to carry two cell phones and pagers and radios. You are probably adding a total of 1200 to 1500 to the entire city budget every month. Would you rather pay these executives over-time to sit at the office or be out of touch until they get back home and check their answering machine. ITS A BARGAIN

Anonymous said...

the previous post is of course IMHO. only mayor, former chief of staff and council know the real reasons for any actions at city hall. i admit that what i said was what i heard about it and nothing more.

Most private companies allow employees to use cell phones for all their calls and pay a percentage for the personal ones. So, why should the city be any different?

The daily Clown Talk has a new telephone system for delivery complaints. You no longer can speak to a person, they want you to leave a message. I called the business office at 6:35 a.m. this morning requesting my paper be delivered to my job since they cannot deliver it on time at my house. I was told it would be delivered.

It is now 9:22 a.m. and still no paper. I have call the delivery number, the business office and the general number for the Clown Talk numerious times and every number is busy every time. They must be doing a hell of a business to be so busy all the time. Or maybe they just don't care about the few subscribers they still have.

That's not what I heard. I was informed that Roy, Sanders, Brown AND Provosty are all on the same page when it comes to initiating and executing certain issues. So what will those letters say, "Let's get together to discuss strategy." So some of you heard one thing, while others heard something totally different. Let us not be fooled. The individuals that you speak of are intelligent enough to work together, if that is the decision of the group. So I guess we will have to wait and see what happens :-)

I did read those comments and hear those remarks didnt I ? So, what happened? Verne Kennedy Lie, Poll lie or did Brewer people mispeak ....again?

Anonymous said...

To give that confirmation, you would either have to be Roy or related to him. If that is not the case, I would advise you to buckle up for the ride. I have seen stranger partnerships and teams in the game of politics.

As for the poll question, there is a major disconnect regarding the dissemination of public information. Brewer was never noted as having a great lead over Roy.

Kates sent a request to the board asking about The Washington Parish Hard Copy, a message board about local politicians. The board will consider the matter at its meeting Thursday.

Brewer? Roy? Does it matter? The makeup of the City Council hasn’t changed one iota.

Re this blog: Somebody call “Venom ER” and let ‘em know there’s a great source for serum right here in CenLA.

Would seem to develop a blogger code of ethics first you would have to contact algore - he invented the intranest you know.

Secondly you would have to contact one of those federal agencies known by initials. The intranest, as best I understand it, is not merly limited to input from Loozana but worldwide. Board of ethics can't even properly police Louisiana politicians - hey maybe coffee anan could handle it, he ain't head of the new nited nations.

Why does this sound so typical of south of I-10 intelligence. The Louisiana Board of Ethics being requested to police Blogs by a politician from south of I-10.

I know Washington Parish ain't south of I-10. However ain't much difference between a red neck and a south of I-10er

Hey...you should get some Pepto-Bismol for that nausea. It really helps!

No, the City Council has not changed, which is GREAT! I LOVE IT!

Does "Re this blog:" mean "the reason for this blog"? If it does, that is just as funny as the question about Brewer leading in the polls! Teehee :-)

What ever happened to intelligent remarks regarding current issues? I don't think it is necessary to make degrading comments about every, single matter. That's ridiculous!

What is another good media source other than the Trash Talk? If they lean anymore to the left, they'll fall off the Earth. I am so sick of that paper. I'm serious about another media source. I guess you just have to order an out of town paper, which I am so ready to do.

I agree! Comments like:

South of I-10
Mississippi Rejects
Rednecks
9th Ward Evacuees

are racial! What is the problem? All you have to do is stick to the issue at hand! Is the thinking capacity of the "day bloggers" that limited? Maybe the "night bloggers" have better conversation.

Well do that! Stop complaining about the Town Talk and move on!
