Who will be our next Mayor? We could hit a historical mark with either the first woman or black mayor. What ever the case, Alexandria is truly at a point of no return. With one of our better hotels closing due to not paying their utilities the fact remains that Alexandria is canibalizing itself. A massive Economic Development plan must be created and implemented. Utility bills must be reduced. Our power is purchased from Cleco and marked up by the city. We have a fund surplus. What to do with it? Uhhh ....
Alexandria is being surpassed by Pineville. Mayor Fields and Rich Dupree as well as the Pineville City Council have done a phenominal job on economic development. As a business owner myself, I recognize the ease and less expense of operating in Pineville. I have had many like minded conversations with other business owners.
Voters, think wise and hard on your decision. Candidates think wise and hard. Whom ever is the next mayor will wear this pivotal mantel for a very long time. This could very well be the mayorial term that makes or breaks Alexandria.

Trial Lawyer bashing is not a new concept. Brewer's campaign guy, Kennedy, simply used a page from Karl Rove's play book. Say Roy is a dirty Trial Lawyer and everyone will hate him and vote for the Republican candidate. That strategy has worked well on a national level and even state level; however, I think it is not nearly as effective on a local level.
The irony is that Brewer says Roy should not be mayor because he is a Trial Lawyer, but she has sued State Farm trying to get money for her because her son was injured. That is hypocrisy at its worst.
What Brewer is saying is that Trial Lawyer equals lawsuits equals bad. But those rules do not apply to her. Haven't we had enough of leaders in this city who think the rules don't apply to them?
Her hypocrisy also shows when she accused Roy of negative campaigning when she is the one who first engaged in such tactics. Brewer ran what is known as a “push poll”. Her people call a voters home and ask who you would vote for. If you say Roy, then they say would you still vote for him if you know he is a dirty Trial Lawyer?

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's $500,000 cap on medical malpractice damages, set in 1975, is unconstitutional because it no longer provides an adequate remedy to patients, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal in Lake Charles has ruled in a 3-2 decision.
A $500,000 award would be worth about $160,000 today, the opinion, issued Wednesday, said. The court said evidence indicates the cap would have to be raised to $1.6 million or $1.7 million to provide the same protection as it did 31 years ago.

these are the facts: in 1997 someone ran a stop sign and slammed into my car. the impact caused 95% hearing loss in my right ear. pretty much, i am deaf (disabled). we did not sue. we settled out of court. if you think that we settled for money to have fun with then you are sadly mistaken. i used the money for surgery and to run test. i appologize to everyone who has witnessed these personal attacks by the roy camp. these are not the issues that we as a city need to focus on. i just wish that roy could leave my family out of his onslaught and keep his sights on the future of alexandria.

Hopefully, the insurance company does the right thing and "compensates" that injured person for the damage that he/she suffered.

Some council members are angry that they were not told about a request to postpone the CLECO audit.
That audit is supposed to show whether CLECO owes the city money.
The fight seems to be about who gets to know what is happening with the CLECO lawsuit and when. A local attorney Bridgette Brown who is on the team for the city against CLECO is publicity criticizing the mayors handling of the lawsuit.
Here is the exchange that will have many in the community talking. It is between Brigette Brown and Mayoral Candidate and Chief of Staff Delores Brewer.
The next step according to city council members is to hold a meeting with two Baton Rouge law firms, Davidson Law Firm, LLC and Sharp Dooley, LLC.
The attorney's are being called to a meeting with the city council to explain the next step in the CLECO lawsuit.
Routinely, this kind of meeting is held behind closed doors because legal strategy is discussed but council member Myron Lawson wants this meeting held in open session.

No, Carolyn, she was not Chief of Staff when she bid on the Housing Authority. But, she was still a paid city employee. It may not have been a conflict, but it was the appearance of one that makes it suspect.

You people are so funny. I have gotten to know Deborah Randolph from serving on Chamber Board with her. I can assure you she does not want a job with the city. She represents clients as a lobbyist. Has an office here and in Baton Rouge close to state capitol. Things are going well for her business. She told me she doesn't want to leave the private sector for any public sector position--especially the city for crying out loud. How do I know this? I asked her why she didn't run for mayor and she laughed and said that she didn't feel that she had the proper experience and that it was not her calling. She said that she was proud to support her husband in that role. She said that she loves what she's doing. Also said she is looking forward to having Ned with her more in Baton Rouge and in Alex. when his term is over and he has fewer demands on his schedule. Just had this conversation with her about three to four weeks ago.

Delores was Capital Projects Coordinator at the time she bid on the AHA project. The CPC job is a non civil service position and was not included in the list of mayoral appointees in the Charter. Legally, she was probably OK bidding on the work but would have had to resign from the City if she got the job. Even if it is legal though it doesn't pass the smell test.
How do the Randolph's feel about Mrs. Brewer's strategy re: so many things wrong with the city. Tall grass, cars in the yard, etc. Plus demonizing attorneys? It's like she's running against the incumbent, only, she was right there. Some people are saying that she comes across like she's slapping Ned in the face. Several of the other candidates say more positive things on a daily basis about Ned than she has during this entire campaign. It's just a really interesting dynamic. Guess the whole Republican thing is a huge factor. I've heard she and her hubby live and die by Rush Limbaugh and HATE democrats.
If Brewer felt so strongly about high grass and graphiti and stopping crime why dint she walk down the hall and address it with HER Mayor? Its a shame that Brewer has used Ned Randoph and now is disrespecting and basically accussing him of being a bad Mayor who let the City get into disrepair and dangerous......How can she say he was a good Mayor if she is running on fixing what he has allowed to fail? How can Debra Randolph sit back and watch such disloyalty??? The Randolphs would have been better not supporting anyone.
I've heard the Randolph's are disappointed in her. So, they're staying out of it now. But DB doesn't seem to get it. She has forsaken her greatest asset.
I don't think that's accurate. I think Delores has to run on her own and the Randolph's understand that and are Ok with what she has to do and say. Surely they know about the realities of a hotly contested political campaign.

Certain councilmen have bullied and manipulated long enough.

Delors has to run on her OWN ??? HAaaaaa....She has used and depended on others to get herself into this position. First as an unqualified project director that she learned on the job but as a favor from Ned, then given the opportunity BY Ned to be Chief of Staff to put her into a position to run for Mayor, then depended on NED to endorse her and turn his supporters loose such as the Hacks at Provosty ..then She relied on NEDS contributors that came directly from NEDS contribution list and the CITYS vendors list and then USED Neds pollster and political consultant, then get DEBRA Randolphs Brother to help run her campaign and YOU have the ignorace to say that DELORES IS RUNNING HER OWN RACE????? ha ha ha ha ha....You must be a true believer. how does that Cool Aide taste anyway?
Ned's record and accomplishments speak for themselves. No one can take that away from him. I was with him from the beginning of his political career as a friend and supporter. I strongly believe he tried to deal properly with anything he discovered to be unethical. I do believe that he gave too many years to the job--because we asked it of him. I remember the times when he wanted to try to do something else and people refuse to help him and instead would pounce on him and ask him to take another term, & then another. So it really chaps me when people trash him. Good thing his mama is in heaven now--cause she would come into town and kick some folks asses from here to kingdom come.

Ned has not endorsed Delores. A few months ago, he publicly stated that he supported her candidacy. Get your facts straight. There has not been an endorsement. She needs to run on her own merits.
Wait a minute. NED DID ENDORSE HER. IF this is someone in Neds family trying to distance themselves from Brewer then I certainly understand .However, HE MOST DEFINITELY DID ENDORSE DELORES BREWER. I am curious as to whether we can all get along Sunday morning or have deeper divisions been created in this race. Through all of this there has been general discussion about making the place better, but I cannot truly say anyone has laid a road map to get to a specific destination or set specific goals.

I don't think you should speak for Ned or his wife. That's not fair. I don't aim to do that either, but I think you just assumed Ned endorsed her because he said he supports her. I believe an endorsement is a more formal process. I am certainly NOT suggesting that the Randolphs regret supporting Brewer. I think some people on these blogs are aiming to "divide and conquer" via innuendo and rumor. Her opponents would love to create a rift between the Brewers and Randolphs. Or should I say make everyone believe there is a rift. Furthermore, I think these bloggers enjoy picking on other friends and supporters, such as Provosty and Sadler just to blow smoke and get a rise out of them.

I believe that perhaps MR REALITY CHECK might be MRS MAYOR and therefore I understand why you do not want people to think Ned endorsed Brewer. I understand completely.

Probably mincing words. Or, maybe I missed something that was in the paper that said Mayor endorsed her. Really, I reckon you could say that supporting and endorsing are one in the same anyway. Not really worth an arguement when I think about it. I'm sure Mrs. Brewer appreciates it either way.
