One Week left ...

Who will be our next Mayor? We could hit a historical mark with either the first woman or black mayor. What ever the case, Alexandria is truly at a point of no return. With one of our better hotels closing due to not paying their utilities the fact remains that Alexandria is canibalizing itself. A massive Economic Development plan must be created and implemented. Utility bills must be reduced. Our power is purchased from Cleco and marked up by the city. We have a fund surplus. What to do with it? Uhhh ....

Alexandria is being surpassed by Pineville. Mayor Fields and Rich Dupree as well as the Pineville City Council have done a phenominal job on economic development. As a business owner myself, I recognize the ease and less expense of operating in Pineville. I have had many like minded conversations with other business owners.

Voters, think wise and hard on your decision. Candidates think wise and hard. Whom ever is the next mayor will wear this pivotal mantel for a very long time. This could very well be the mayorial term that makes or breaks Alexandria.

I remain,

Hopeful in Alexandria

I find it utterly amazing that no one else has filed a complaint with the Sceretary of State in regard to the distrcit 2 & 4 matter. There is one filed now.

so, now ya'll gonna try to pick on somebody's dead daddy? low, very low.

I have a question for you political gurus. Roy has gone negative and surely, DB is about to. so with both putting negative stuff out there does it even out the hits? Or will it send votes to other candidates?

Anonymous said...

sams is the man!

Mogden-Liddleton , according to your billing records your are 214 years old.

Yup, I think you could lump Oggie and Tubby in the same class of lawyer...

The business cabal's sampling of voter opinion for last week is out. It was delivered Friday. There will be one more sampling taken Thursday of this week with the results delivered late Thurs PM or early Friday AM

Survey says:
Roy - 35%....down by 3%
Fuller - 24%....down by 1%
Johnson - 13%....up by 2%
Brewer - 11%....no change
Sams - 11%....up by 2%
CFS and Red - 3%....no change

Still appears as though Roy VS Fuller in the runoff. However, don't be suprised at HUGE swings 48 hours before the vote.

Despite rumors, to the contrary, Cleco seems to be drifting to the Roy Camp! They believe that if Roy wins, they can write a check, settle this thing, and make the whole mess go away. However, if any other candidate wins, they will attempt to skewer Cleco and thus prove to the voters that they are "fighting for the little people."

If Roy makes it into the runoff, look for a deal to be cut that will be good for Cleco, the city, and Roy's clients.

The feathers and bones have spoken.

the Cleco Bullshit is just that. I have seen the email that was distributed at cleco wherein it is suggested that "certain candidates have been adverse to the CLECO FAMILY " and that they are encouraged to get involved and to support those who have been friends with CLECO. That is ceratinly not Cleco suggesting support for Roy.

Problem is...that its the same people. Its the people who can come and drink coffee and chit chat DURING THE WORK DAY. And if you have not checked lately, those 'elitist' dont amount to that many people. The rest of us have to work during the day. GREG WALKER has a DELORES BREWER sticker on his car!...ha ha ha.

Anonymous said...

Actually, Soothsayer is very close to what will happen Saturday, barring some huge calamity.

Anonymous said...

we've said it before and we'll say it again - a vote for ms brewer is a vote for the silk stocking, courthouse crowd that has had an age old stranglehold on alexandria and rapides parish.

Anonymous said...

I see that Delores Chief of Staff, Caroll Lanier is on the front row. Now help me remember where Lanire used to work?...Ohhh ..yes..Alexandria Housing authority....??

Anonymous said...

right now - special city council meeting now in session televised live from cox cable channel 4

Anonymous said...

Lanier was he Mayor of Alexandria and was turned out to pasture by the voters. As with any politicians voted out or term limited out they continue to suck at the public trough by being appointed to positions by those they had favored 0 i.e., Chawlie Dewitt.

It is though no matter what the electorate desires the same old politic hacks continue to enrich themselves off public funds. One reason, as in Chawlie and Lanier's case, they have no marketable skills especially skills with a financial value to maintain their lifestyle.

The look on Myron's face as he was told that the variances did not arise to the level where an injunction would possibly be issued was priceless. Harry and Hobbs were nearly speechless. Hey fellas - pack your go boxes.

Anonymous said...

they still think they are smart though because they adjourned without getting the exact wording down on that resolution. someone needs to follow up on that resolution and what it really winds up saying.

Anonymous said...

They mumbled the content of the ordinance which is improper due to the fact if it is an emergency ordinance must deal with life, health property or public safety and if it is a regular ordinance it must be laid away for 7 days for notification and hearing before passage. The poor attorney from BR is going to get stiffed after I file a protest.

Anonymous said...

man, that would be bad news. roy get's elected, cleco writes a big check to his dad or brother who have taken over the case, and once again, we the general public take it up the a**.

Anonymous said...

Spanky, and poor Myron shows up late and he has already been stuffed and cuffed. He looked like a kid on christmas day that santa forgot about. bwahahahahahahahahah

Anonymous said...

I had a chance to see the video blog on KALB on Myron Lawson. He brags about the Utility Center he brought downtown, the night bus service that he got for US and his plan for a sports arena off Lower Third, He takes credit for the Bently Hotel's planned opening, I wonder what He has done for the citizens of the rest of Alexandria, you know West of Bolton ave. I surely will vote for Dr. Slatkin

Anonymous said...

btw, i still think y'all should vote for sams. he is the best bet for a serious house cleaning for the city. and certainly the best man for telling the council how the cow is gonna eat the cabbage. go sams! up 2%!

Anonymous said...

He also takes credit for the fund balance that the city is spending on projects. How about a break for the taxpayers and utility customers who created the fund balance

Anonymous said...

lampert will beat silk stockings silver 60/40. it will be ugly.

Anonymous said...

I just got off the phone with the city clerk and they could not say if it was an emergency or regular ordinance. They then stated it was a resolution, which would be illegal to use to spend one dime of city money. I am going to let the dust settle to find the outcome and use it as part of the basis for a lawsuit to remove errrant council members for not following proper procedure. Batter up!!!

Why are you worried about the friken ordinance....Kelvin will take care of it So dont you worry.

Quickly and with no discussion, the Alexandria City Council on Thursday nominated and passed 6-0 the appointment of local merchant Harry Silver to fill the unexpired term of former District 4 Councilman Rick Ranson.

Silver, 83, owner of Weiss & Goldring and long a name in civic causes, said he wants "to see what's on the (council's) plate" before he spells out what he wants to accomplish.

Silver will be sworn in at the regular council meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"I happen to be in love with the city of Alexandria," Silver said after Thursday's vote.

Silver would not say if he'll run in next fall's regular election.

"I think it's premature" to discuss a run next year, he said. "I haven't even been sworn in yet."

However, two councilmen said after the Thursday meeting that Silver has pledged not to run for election next year.

"I was looking for somebody who wasn't running" next year, said council President Charles F. Smith Jr.

At-large Councilman Myron Lawson confirmed Silver's pledge and said, "We wanted someone who would bring some flavor (to the council) and also someone who would not run."

Both council members also said the vote was not a done deal before the meeting.

"This was no preconceived, slotted thing," Lawson said.

Of the three or more names of possible replacements floated since Ranson announced he would resign, only Silver was in council chambers for Thursday's vote.

Lawyer Marc Lampert, who actively lobbied for the position after two neighborhood groups endorsed him, didn't attend the meeting. He said he believes the council's decision was made before the meeting started.

"Harry Silver has never been the issue to me," Lampert said. "But why do you blow off the wishes of a significant portion of the community?"

When Ranson announced he would resign, he asked the council to consider neighborhood associations' wishes on who would replace him.

The Garden District Neighborhood Foundation and the Wedgewood Downs/Memorial Neighborhood Watch group endorsed Lampert, who said he'd never commit to not running next fall.

Suzie Butler, with the Wedgewood group, said "it's real unfortunate" Lampert wasn't chosen, but "we will have the opportunity to run someone in 11 months."

Smith and Lawson said they preferred a fresh election next year, and with no incumbent to run in District 4, new candidates would not have an uphill fight battling someone with political name recognition.

They lauded Silver's business acumen, adaptability and history.

"He'll bring in not only the history of Central Louisiana ... he is one who did not sleep through the revolution" of computer technology and clothing changes, Lawson said. "I think he's an honorable man."

Silver also brings in a Rolodex of business connections, a commodity needed to pull more business-minded talent into Alexandria and its government, Smith said.

"We have too much talent out there in (the) business" community, Smith said.

Though there was no council discussion before the vote, there were plenty of accolades for Silver afterward.

"He has a proven record of working with people in this town," said Ben Johnson of the Alexandria Human Relations Commission.

Dear Anonymous,

Negative? No my friend frustrated. Alexandria is at the perfect spot geographically to be one of Louisiana's boom towns. With all of the infighting and lack of support Alexandria has failed to in my opinion takes it's rightful place. As you know me, you also know of my participation in trying to make changes. Would you prefer that I sit by the road like everyone else. My sentiments have been echoed many times by individuals who were born and lived here their entire lives. I have also been thanked ("I have listened to you on many occasions. You are right, I have lived here my entire life and done nothing to better my community. I have complained for years and done nothing. Thank you for trying to make a change.")

Negativety, I think not. Louisiana is a rich state, culturally and should be financially. While in my many endeavors I have often heard "We can't", "It won't work", "It can't work". My answer is "Why won't it" "Why can't it" and "Let's try it". What is your mantra?

As far as the "since arriving here" remark, my father and uncle were both educated in Alexandria. I am also Fulton descendant, does that name ring a bell? I beleive I have a right to discuss my opinions AND make change.

I apologize for the lack of focus on this posting, but I have heard to many "opinions" of me from "natives" who sit by the wayside allowing Alexandria to die on the vine. Bad news for those individuals, I will continue to press for positive change in Central Louisiana. We need economic growth, so WE as well as or descendants can continue to live here.

finally! people are beginning to see it my way.

Anonymous said...

Calm down Biffy, that was probably Leonid doing what comes natural to him, Cheerleading. Up 2% only means he's doubled his numbers to 4%.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone realize that YOUR city council was trying to use YOUR money to take away YOUR right to vote? I have heard very little discussion or outcry about what they were trying to do. Wake up folks!!! The council chambers were not standing room only.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Cenla Antics, I am new to the blog and thought you were someone else who moved here from out of town. No, I don't want you or anyone else to stop working to make Alex. better. But you sounded like the one who is negative in your intro to this thread. Why don't we all stop complaining and take actions aimed at making Alex and all of central la better. Whenever Alex, Pineville , Woodworth or any of our cities get new industries, it is good for the entire region. We should stop comparing one to the other. Stop being divided and start being united.

Anonymous said...

Face it Spanky, apathy rules in this Town. That's how we got to this point to begin with. It's pitiful, but very few voters actually know what kind of thugs they are dealing with here.

Thank you!

Why shuold Johnson switch from Kelvin to Bridgette as city attorney? They're joined at the hip anyway. City would still have to farm out most of the work due to incompetence and lack of understanding regarding governmental law. An awful thought and plenty enough reason NOT to cast a vote for Roosevelt. Myron, Bridgette and co. would bully him to no end.

Scarlett has jumped off Brewer's sinking ship, but why jump off the ship onto the iceberg?

Anonymous said...

I agree, Sams is the man who will make real changes in city government. Hope his number continue to pick up steam.

Anonymous said...

Scarlett wasnt allowed in any of Delores commercials except the first one and that has pissed her off. Guess that is why she is riding Sams ship now.

Even I like the occasional dirty deed, but to impersonate Scarlett to make her appear as a defector is.. is ...is almost Republican.

Anyone get the latest Roy mail-out?

Brewer and her family are triple-dipping into our tax dollars. Ice cream cone on the front page. Contains specific, sourced information on her consulting group, her husband's insurance business, and her brother-in-law's appraisal work.

How can anyone in their right mind vote for this woman?

Anonymous said...

anon, 4.44.55. it sounds like roy is coming on gangbuster and ripping delores a new one. she doesn't respond fast, she is sunk.

Anonymous said...

she can't respond. all she has are lies and gossip.. jacques is a lawyer (OOOOOOOH!). so is ned. what's her point? jacques has sued the city (OOOOOOH!). at least someone doesn't mind holding the city accountable.

Anonymous said...

it's almost getting funny. while delores is sending out fliers showing her picking up garbage, jacques is burying delores in her own garbage. if you are looking for a good place to be saturday night i would avoid delore's place. 200,000 dollar wakes are never pretty.

Anonymous said...

Biff, I will attempt to explain the 35% if you promise to keep your freezer door closed.

Remember, this is a TRACKING POLL. Nothing in depth. Basicly they call a certain number of people until they get 300 respondents. They ask two questions. What's your party? and If the election were held today, who would you vote for? There is no demographic breakdown as to race, age, or sex. If they have to call 500 people to get 300 answers, they do.

Percentages are figured, the undecided are thrown out, they need 300 affirmative answers to get an accurate sampling. The way the numbers work, Roy had to have about 105 positive responses out of 300 afffirmative answers. The poll cuts across party lines and numbers are chosen by computer at random.

Biff, I have no idea of the accuracy of this type of tracking poll, but I know that many campaigns use them to get a feel for the "pulse" of the street.

As to the Cleco thing, upper level management chooses who and when to write the check to, not the employees. It COULD be that Cleco just wants the public relations bleeding to stop. Also, unsettled lawsuits always have a negative affect on stock prices.

I would bet that if a settlement were reached today it would include some sort of rebate to Alexandria utility customers.

Anonymous said...

sooth, thanks for the info. very informative. i'll be the first to admit i know nothing of polling. and you are right, it would be in CLECO's best interest to go ahead and pay the piper and get this behind them.

Anonymous said...

Listen, I am big enough to admit i made a mistake with Delores. I am now supporting Sams.

Anonymous said...

scarlett? can you tell me how to make my name blue?

200,000 dollar a week wake huh? Dream on freak. Once again the blog is a joke. It will be funny as hell on Saturday night when the Brewer haters get stomped. See ya on the otherside gullible, misinformed people.

It feels good to be on top. It must suck to be chasing a dream. A dream that will end in a nightmare for a doctor when he gets less than 6%. A nightmare for one young, inexperienced trial lawyer who not only doesn't know how to be mayor, he sure as hell does not know how to play in politics.

Anonymous said...

That WAS NOT me.

Scarlett, you have a lot of time on your hands my dear.

Anonymous said...

Name ONE nursing home case Jacques has taken, Scarlett. ONE.

Anonymous said...

scarlett, you have a truly remarkable propensity to counter facts with innuendo and rumor. while roy is bombing your candidate with verifiable FACTS, you counter with snide rumor. seriously, it's high time for you to put up or shut up. your credibility is lower than a turtle's titties.

Anonymous said...

Ok. I'am really getting angry now!

Anonymous said...

go sams!

Anonymous said...

scarlett, you can make the first step in fostering a decent discussion by learning the difference between a damn lie and a fact. it's obvious, delores is lacking in that regard. her first two official acts as a candidate were to lie TWICE on tape. maybe it's some weird virus over at the brewer camp. but again, in all fairness to roy, whom by the way, i DO NOT support, he is slinging FACTS, facts that i personally believe are very relevant to brewer's candidacy. you, on the other hand, repeat any baseless rumor that crosses your pointy head. you come back to us when you can distinguish between a fact and garden club gossip.

Anonymous said...

Help me! I've been hacked. I think it was one of those Bolton Brats from Lamar's.

Anonymous said...

brewer is not in first. she is in a death struggle with sams right now. and the latest info shows sams going up, and delores going nowhere. another flier from roy and she will be competing with red for the five votes red will get.

Anonymous said...

The question is: How can we tell when it's the real Scarlett and when it's someone pretending to be the real Scarlett?

Anonymous said...

The one who sounds slightly more delusional is the real Scarlett.

Anonymous said...

Biff is the delusional one to think Sams is in a death struggle with Brewer. LOL at that nonsense. Meanwhile, tomorrow is going to be an interesting day for Roy and his supporters. Somethin's gonna hit the fan and it ain't gonna be roses.

Anonymous said...

scarlett, allow me to personally welcome you to the sams camp. you won't regret your decision.

Anonymous said...

The person faking scarlett is a jerk. That's not the way to play. Make up your own name, and then let it rip at her.

Anonymous said...

pfft. the delores camp has been talking trash for weeks. nothing has happened, nothing will happen.

Biff:
Not to worry, cause there's nothing targeted at Sams. No need to do so. Regarding your disbelief about something is coming, it is irrelevant. You and other disbelievers will see soon enough.

perhaps the blogger who impersonates scarlett should impersonate "bumpsonmynuts" instead. seems more appropriate for such a nasty person.

Hey, I saw Roy walking in Garden District aka Brewer country this afternoon. He musta been going door to door. Wonder if he goes to houses that have other candidates signs? Roosevelt, Fuller and Brewer do that. Anyone get a knock on the door from Roy tonight?

Anonymous said...

the brewer camp is going to show how desperate they are by starting a rumor about roy's past that isn't true. i hear roy can prove beyond doubt that this is just another one of her lies.

Anonymous said...

I saw Roy going door to door in Martin Park yesterday. Besides Roosevelt, he's the only candidate who has bothered to show his face in my neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

No, dear. Sorry to disappoint you. This is not rumors. No one is making anything up. The info coming out is FACT. Very, very easy to check. Got it in black and white. Has nothing to do with what some idiot claimed in an earlier post re: recreational activities. That was NOT DB camp. We do not campaign that way. Never will.

Anonymous said...

Roosevelt has knocked on my door every time he's run...no matter who's sign is in my yard. Gotta give him points for his "foot work."

we're shaking in our boots--NOT. unless you gonna spread lies, you got nothing because there's nothing to get.

Anonymous said...

Explain.

Anonymous said...

Who are you talking to when you say, "explain?"

Anonymous said...

How come no one is talking about Fast Track, sport complexes, marinas, casinos, brothels, massage parlors, cockfight dens, and the rest of the economic development ideas that have been thrown out for campaign foddder? Is this the best we can do to muster the boring tit for tat exchanges of the past few days?

Anonymous said...

you know, we haven't spoken at all about the council at large seat, which is almost as important as the mayors race. slatkin or myron?

Anonymous said...

Biff, I became overjoyed at the lost look that Myron had in his eyes as Mr. Hampton reiterated that 12 voters did not rise to Justice Department intervention. I am hoping that the folks of Alexandria saw this attempt to derail the district 2&4 election for what it was, a political hack job orchestrated by Myron himself. I am pulling for Dr. Slatkin because he is not Myron. Death to the Snake. (Only in a political sense, mind you.) Biff, were you in attendance at the council meeting?

For anyone that is interested, this plant handles all of Los Angeles, CA wastewater. The interesting part is that water is pumped 4 miles out in the ocean and does not disturb the ocean environment as well as the plant produces natural gas that fuels the powr plant and all of the solids are processed for return to the land as fertilzer. Of course it is on a huge scale, but these are the concepts that can be integrated into Alexandria's infrastructure as facilities age and are in need of replacement or update. Go to this link:

http://www.csun.edu/~jk850878/dr_herr_assignments/695b/hyperion/hyperion.htm

There are other facilities around the country that dispose of solid waste through a combination of recycling and digestion that produce income and natural gas as by products, thereby defraying operating expense. It ain't pie in the sky - some of these operations have been going for twenty or thirty years. Usually they are proud to share what they have learned with others and we could greatly benefit from their knowledge.

As someone who ohas spent the last 7 years working to attract and land jobs in Central LA - I personally take offense to one City is doing better than the other. What you fail to realize is this - we have come to work TOGETHER - to grow the REGION. It's not Alexandria vs. Pineville as if it were a football game on a Friday night. When one town wins - whether it's Leesville who has Ameritech working to grow its employment level to 350 in its first year or Arrow in Jena growing to 300 in 2 years. We all win. Alexandria wins because it is the medical and retail hub. Pineville wins because of housing developments. The outlying areas win because of jobs and housing. PERIOD!!!

As far as UTLX goes, it wasn't just Cleco purchasing the land. There were several entities who could have done that. Cleco said yes. For that they are to be applauded. That nor the Governor's phone call is the REAL reason Union Tank is in Louisiana - only a few people who worked inside the project know that.

Get past your high school fantasies of who won last week's game and get on with the business at hand. Central Louisiana is growing. We have to make changes to accomodate that growth and the changes that come with it or wind up like other metro areas - unprepared and facing a shortage of housing, crime, a shortage of schools and a shortage of labor. We can easily wind up like Pollock was as well a few years ago - not able to add one water meter to our system if we're not careful.

The benefit of the COA of owning all of its utilities is tremendous. They set their own rates. They can negotiate within reason (meaing council approval) with industry without the public service commission. When bringing in industry this is HUGE! Cleco and Entergy can't.

Anonymous said...

How bout dem saints? nawlins comin back, ya'll.

Anonymous said...

Roy's new commercial is good. Have you guys seen it? I just saw it tonight. Points out negatives but doesn't mention names of those involved in sweetheart deals, etc. Then takes high road --mentions TT endorsement. This week is going to be so interesting.

Anonymous said...

The fact that COA can set its rates is huge. That is one reason I feel we should be looking at integration of systems that can actually produce revenue to lower operating expense further. Being able to offer cheaper energy and other fees is a huge draw for industry. The UTLX deal was also dependant on the physical location as there were only a few sites where rail, river and interstate converge in close proximity. That in itself should tell everyone here that we are blessed sith a magic combination. I fully agree that we need to look at our area regionally. All of Rapides parish has about 125,000 people which doesn't make a suburb of Dallas. That is one reson I feel strongly that we in this area need to look at an area government that covers all municipalities and the parish. I know it is tall wishing, but we are hurting ouselves greatly by not talking about it.

Anonymous said...

i wonder why the brewer mail-outs are going to addresses outside of the city limits.

Anonymous said...

WeSawThat, here is a better link that has a virtual tour of the plant.

http://www.lasewers.org/index.htm

Sorry about that other junk.

Anonymous said...

It does not have to be. Cleco customers rates are governed by the Public Service Commision which also provides oversight and some level of rate protection which is lost whenever a municipality such as Alexandria has a utility system. The reasoning is that the citizens have representation in the form of their local government and have input to control over rate structures. The fact that the city can enter into agreements to purchase power from outside sources and produce power with its own resources gives a great degree of flexibility in energy sourcing. As a matter of fact, If someone was not asleep at the wheel, we could probably make a great deal on some of that number 2 heating oil that Hugo Chavez is trying to practically give away to the folks in NY and burn it in our power plant since it is a dual fuel unit. It is not as inefficient as some would have you believe and quite an asset to our community. It will produce enough power to light all of Alexandria with a slight excess. The biggest advantage is that it gives us bargaining power with other power producers. We are not at their mercy. If we sell the plant like some had suggested, that advantage goes out the window and since Alexandria has no Public Sevice Commission protection, we would be at the mercy of any power supplier.

yes Scarlet, I suppose you're right, you can ask the right questions and make the answers appear to confirm any predicted outcome.

But.....

Every candidate has a stake in this, but the business group who commissioned this tracking poll doesn't. They just want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to giving money away. So why would they tilt the results one way or another?

No Scarlet, I believe that the numbers are genuine. Even the phone numbers which are called are chosen at random from a computer program.

Scarlet my dear, as much as I hate being the bearer of bad news...I think you have to face the possibility that your candidate will lose.

Good God, I just read the TT story on he council meeting yesterday. Saw comments were made by the Baton Rouge lawyer and Trey Gist. I assume Kelvin was also there. I wonder what those total legal bills were for. I can understand the expert from Baton Rouge, but why Trey Gist as well? How many lawyers does the City have?

Anonymous said...

If the City pays an hourly rate to the Provosty firm and to Trey Gist, and it is truly more work that the City Attorney can handle alone, has anyone ever given thought to hiring a salaried assistant or two for the City Attorney? I bet that would be cheaper that Albin and Trey's hourly rates.

Anonymous said...

Trey is attorney for the city council. Provosty is special council to the administration. Kelvin is the joke of a city attorney aka "yes man fo Bridgette and Myron." Provosty was brought b/c administration had to have "real" legal advice from someone with governmental experience. It is a specialty of law. Council made it clear they would NEVER let Kelvin be fired.

Anonymous said...

Problem with salaried assistant to Kelvin is that he'd be his or her boss. It was critical that these other attorneys be autonymous in order to do what NEEDS to be done rather than what Bridgette and Myron want done. You are correct, in my opinion that a salaried assistant will be the way to go once Kelvin is out---that is to say as long as the next city attorney is 1) competent and 2)loyal to the mayor.

Anonymous said...

scarlett? is it true you have come over to the sams side? that's great! glad to have you.

Anonymous said...

Why does Myron and company need Gist to represent their interest when they already have Kelvin/Bridget? Its a triple headed legal ______. You fill in the blank. I just don't understand why a relatively small City needs more than one, maybe two lawyers. Alex. has somewhere around 20 of them. I'm confused.

Anonymous said...

scarlett? is it true you have come over to the sams side? that's great! glad to have you.

Thanks Biff. I've finally seen the light and repudiated Delores in favor of the true Republican candidate: Dr. John Sams. Go Sams!

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute. In addition to the hundreds of thousands tha are paid to OUTSIDE attys Gist and Provosty, SANDERS has hired himself 2..count them...TWO full time assistant Attys to do legal work for the City. Now tell me again how the Randolph/ Brewer administration is so well operated??.....

Anonymous said...

scarlett! that is simply marvelous!

Anonymous said...

the two full time assistants are necessary because kelvin knows nothing about the law, and moreover refuses to actually do any work. with his two assistants carrying the water for him, it frees him up to plot and intrigue with myron and bridgett. he was green yesterday when his plan to stop district 2 and 4 voting, in order to try to save myron's buddies, hobbs and silk stockings silver went down the tube. now if we can only elect slatkin and rid ourselves of the myron scourge once and for all.

Scarlett, I guess folks would have to determine how well the PSC has protected them from rate hikes and overcharges. Our problem is that the citizens have not paid attention to what is going on until it hit them in the wallet big time. We still have a good system, we just have to pay more attention to what is happening and it can be much more responsive that the PSC ever thought of. Besides, it is now becoming obvious that you have been drinking the CLECO Kool-aid. I am now very wary of Delores to think she would be an agent for CLECO. You gave it away by the question.

But for Provosty, there would have been no administration at all. The city loves to pay lawyers: good ones for advice and brown ones for money. The real expensive ones like Leo Hamilton are good and brown. Myron's the problem. Slatkin's the cure.

It stands to reason that we will be well served by having lawyers Roy, Lampert, and Hickman in our government so that we will cease being bamboozled, flim flammed, and generally furked.

Anonymous said...

Is Provosty the only good lawyer in town? I wonder if they took applications and voted on the best, or was it a political appointment? I don't recall the City advertising that a bunch of lawyers were needed, send in resumes.

That is one reason I am going to wait until the election is over, see who is standing, research the minutes and file a suit for removal based on improper procedure as well as other reasons. The remaining councilmen can then appoint a replacement until the next election. It will be time soon to try to get an organization togehter to make it happen. I don't want to be Don Quixote and get whacked by an errant windmill blade. I intend to take back our city in case anyone wants to get on board - no smack talkers need apply.

Anonymous said...

Biff,

I had a dream (nightmare)last night. This could give you the hope you so desperately need. The themes,

1) Lou will deliver his prescribed 20% of the African American vote to Sams, and:

2) Leonid the magnificent will summons his hordes of followers, part the black sea, and escort Sams to the promised land.

Then, I woke up.

Anonymous said...

I really wish that Jacques had not resorted to mudslinging. Why could he have not confronted Delores in an open forum. I don't like mudslinging.

Anonymous said...

Rev. Floyd is Floyd Kirts or Kirks - a real parasite on the political scene. He has tried to extort $$$ from everyone in every race. He is a crook with no influence, no congregation, and absolutely no scruples. Fuller is sure lucky to have that kind of liability in his camp. Rev. Floyd - what a joke.

Anonymous said...

Scarlett, my apologies for being rude. I would say that the PSC has done a great job in keeping rates down as witnessed by CLECO's last failed attempt to get a rate increase. One of my concerns about abandoning or selling our utility system is the actual ability to generate and distribute. Case in point; Beaumont TX could not restore power and let their citizens back to their home for two weeks after Hurricane Rita because a transmission line was down to the city. It was first projected to be down a month, but a massive effort restored it in two weeks. We would never have that logistical problem with the ability to generate our own power unless the plant itself was heavily damaged or destroyed. Even though this is an illustrative comparison, you can see how vulnerable we become if we sell off our utility department. People in California operated on power purchased from the grid which is a nationwide network of suppliers connected by high tension lines. At times , they were denied more power as their demand increased and had rolling blackouts and brown out. The power just was not there. If we are faced with that scenario, the power plant is currently able to supply poewr to the whole city plus. Our pricing problem has more to do with the city council suing the revenues (or the money it bills you) to crow about how fat the coffers are. And yes, they transfer the excess revenue to the general fund and distribute it to the transit department to the tune of 1.5 million a year because the bus system does not pay for itself. If you really want to see where everything goes, get a copy of the city budget since it is a public document and see where everything goes. It is fairly easy to read and quite educational.

Anonymous said...

ah, thanks. someone had asked on another thread who the black preachers were supporting and thats the first info we've come across.

"Mudslinging". Such a pathetic attempt to elicit public sympathy. Roy told the truth - a talent seemingly not possessed by Delores. She is a liar, a part of the problem, not part of the solution and no amount of "spin" is gonna see her in the Mayor's chair.

What she needs to do is figure out some way for her and Harry to save face when they are soundly defeated.

Just got a mail piece from brewer camp on J. Roy. Says drunk drivers are a danger, etc. that's why police arrest them and put them in jail. Says J. Roy has sued on behalf of DWI offenders multiple times to get their drivers licenses back so they can get back on the road. Ouch. Voters ain't gonna like that. The truth hurts. No one in DB camp is going to make up anything on this guy. But the truth will continue to be told.

Anonymous said...

uh...what was date on that? was there a conviction?

Anonymous said...

So far roy right gets in a jab. delores counter punches and knocks roy to the mat. Will Roy get back up or is it a KO? The ref is counting, 1, 2, 3...

Anonymous said...

So you're saying that Roy, a lawyer, represents clients. Mmmmmmm. That is a scoop. Would you be happier if Roy screwed his clients over like Sanders and Brown routinely do to Randolph?

Roy can't reinstate anyone's driver's license. All he can do is petition the court and the driving privileges will be reinstated if there is a good reason like the driver has to support his family but driving back and forth to work. If Roy is as good a mayor as he is an attorney, we got a real winner.

If your doctor treats someone for clap do you blame him for the sexual misconduct? Even Brewer is smarter than that I hope.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm. Would this be where we talk about family members problems with the law and how important that their violations be prosecuted? Is that fair game? Because I have some public documents that would perhaps fit that description.

Uh, mr. reality check, as someone who has had a DWI, you don't sue to get your drivers license reinstated, you file a petition with OMV and then they hold a hearing with you and the officer involved plus someone with the OMV. They decide if you can get yourself a hardship license not you, and most of the time the offender is not allowed in that hearing. After the hearing depending on the outcome of the case in court you either are are reinstated, continue to hold a hardship license (which restricts when you can drive and times of day you can drive) or you lose them out right. DB needs to get her facts straight before she puts crap like that out. I doubt seriously this will help her.

Expect a measured and proper response from Jacques Roy later this week to be placed on his website, proving this latest mail-out concerning DWIs to be yet another "misspeak" (at best) in at least three different ways.

He will also have a thorough response regarding any litigation with public bodies, including the City of Alexandria.

He is proud of his record as an attorney-- and consistent with his committment to absolute transparency-- will share the details of any case involving a public body with all of you.

Nope. I'm just concerned with the FACTS, and after reading the mail-out, I have serious questions about the veracity of its claims.

As several bloggers have already pointed out, an attorney cannot SUE to get a DWI offender back on the road, and after speaking with Jacques Roy and three other local attorneys, I felt it important to let you guys know that he will be issuing a proper response.

Anonymous said...

Very sloppy work, Brewer. Yet again, you didn't get your facts straight.

If we are going to die, then lets take these neocon's 'Hatchlings' out of Harvard, Yale, Brandies, Penn State, and let them make up the spearhead battalions into Iran. Maybe we will finally see some Star of David tombstones in Arlington.

Oooops she did it again. The Brewer implosion is a perfect lesson in what NOT to do in a campaign.

The lesson is that lawyers represent persons accused and good lawyers protect the rights of the accused. Who would you expect those matters to be handled by, and ortodontist? Roy is too smart to get sucked into that mindless vortex.

Spanky, Spanky, Spanky,

Please get your facts right before boasting you can run the City's electrical system.

The plant cannot supply all of the City's load wiht room to spare. In fact, for probably 6 months of the year, the plant comes up short of supplying all of the City's needs. The City must by some power somewhere, unless of course you like being hot and in the dark.

Good thing you passed on that mayoral bid.

Anonymous said...

boy, that last flier from delores was rough. i heard tomorrow they will accuse roy of tearing the tags off his pillows.

Anonymous said...

Ok then, the guys at the power plant gave me bad info because that is what I was told. We have a peak load of 150MW and we have production capability to reach that. If I was mayor, I would be finding out the truth and dealing with it accordingly.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know what intersections the City plans on placing the new traffic cameras?

I hope they are considering placing them first at our most dangerous intersections.

I know in some cities, traffic cameras are dispersed randomly, perhaps because heavily-trafficked intersections don't yield many speeding tickets. But these cameras serve a dual purpose: They can catch people speeding AND they can record accidents. If we place cameras at our most dangerous intersections, it may be possible to use the data and footage of auto accidents in order to determine ways to correct the problem.

Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

i am getting real. those two roy mail outs hurt delores a LOT. the entire town knows 1.she is a liar, and 2. she and her family have been sucking off the cities tit for years. if you don't think that will have a major impact on her candidacy, you need to GET REAL.

Anonymous said...

Spanky,

According to my sources at the City (the people I work with on a daily basis) the city could use DG Hunter to power the city in non peak times only. During the summer when A/C s are running non stop, cold nights, and many afternoon / evenings when folks get home from work send the electric needs beyond the capacity of the plant.

Anonymous said...

Okay then, I will amend my remarks to say that DG Hunter can supply a substantial amount of the power that the city needs at peak times with purchased power needed to complete peak loads. The point is that it is still a avaluable assett if for nothing else, back-up supply and bargaining clout. I feel it is fool-hardy to dismantle it and be at the mercy of the market. One reason that DG Hunter does not handle peak hours well is that the condenser water is not cold enough which is a design flaw with the coolers that exist. They lower the temperature of the condenser water to ambient air temperature which is not quite sufficient to have the turbines perform to their peak. A chiller in line to drop the water temp would aid efficiency.

A word to the wise folks. This campaign is about to enter a new, and as of yet, undiscused phase. As the voters begin to focus their attention on the race, the candidates will begin to assess the reality of losing. People like Fuller, who has connections on the “shady” side of politics, will begin to spend their street money and try and steal this election. It has been done before, and it will be attempted again in this mayor’s race.

Survey says… watch the Black Preachers and their Wednesday night services. The printed ballots will go out with the BBQ tickets attached, voter rolls will be checked for elderly voters, and the vans will be gassed up. Unless the Brewer, Roy, and Sams camps have several poll watchers at EVERY polling place, you might see a runoff between two of these three… Fuller/CFS/Johnson. You can believe that Fuller and CFS have their own autographed copy of “Stealing Elections For Dummies” written by Dutch Morial with a forward by Moon Landrieu.
