"and so the end is near, and now we face the final curtain ..."

Twenty-four hours left to the first round. Who will be the two? Hopefully the terminally embittered will find solice and stop carrying on as the hopelessly clueless. This blog was started as an exchange of important information and ideas. What we have wound up with is an anonymous way to insult your neighbor. Beam me up Scotty ....

Too bad Myron, Harry and GAEDA stuck their noses into the Bentley deal. I have heard that another interested party without any ties to the city or parish had a chance to look at the property, but the rug was pulled out from under them at the last minute, right in time for elections. I guess if someone not beholding to the council were involved, those slimy sacks of s__t couldn't muck it up for the cameras at the press conference.

fine, hire......again, did delores HIRE fletcher?

SuzyQ:
I have worked with D.R. on many instances. She is minimally competent (more than I can say for Kelvin, Bridgett or DD Fuller). However, she is not a 'VERY GOOD' lawyer and she is lazy as hell. You may have worked with her on projects that she wants to work on or had eyes on her during the work. That is different from being hard working as a character trait. I'm sorry if the truth is unkind but it is THE TRUTH nonetheless.

Anonymous said...

suzyq? how did tom manage the sweet heart deal with his secretaries?

Anonymous said...

Ya Ya brotherhood??

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:31, in exactly what instances have you worked with Ms. Robinson? You may not think that she is good lawyer, but I would never call her lazy. Quite frankly, she's probably one of the hardest working people that I know. Your comments indicate that you obviously don't know her very well, but you clearly dislike her. You're entitled to your opinion and even Ms. Robinson would respect that.

Anonymous said...

the guy dissing daphne is an associate at provosty making less than she is. :)

Anonymous said...

I too know Ms. Robinson and I can assure you that she enjoys a blanket dislike of all things caucasian. I think your defense of her is noble but not very informed. However, I don't think that she was ever the issue here. I think the point was the sincerity of the Provosty Firm.
And, while I can not certify her talent in all things legal, I can tell you that she has gotten her butt kicked in adult criminal court every time she dared show up there. The consensus is that she does not lack skill, just judgment in choosing bad cases and unjust causes. She gives us women lawyers a bad name.

Mr. Brian Cespiva personally kicked Myron Lawson's political ass today by documenting Myron's treachery to the state party. Myron's water is and shall remain, cut off.

YOU CAN'T FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME.

Anonymous said...

pt barnham:
Was the "treachery" the Silver on the Myron ballot and using some of the Dem party money for him? I think an earlier post said that.

Anonymous said...

that's what i hear too... his support of harry silver over marc lampert probably cost him thousands of dollars and his political future.

the dems are done with myron. maybe he'll have to switch over to the dark side now.

Anonymous said...

Boy that would be something. Would Myron take Bridget, Kelvin and company with him to the dark side? (I'm hearing Darth Vader breathing noise as I think about this.)

Anonymous said...

My understanding is that there was compound treachery. Myron spent party funds to publish and circulate the Democratic Party ballot that not only endorsed republican Harry Silver to the exclusion of loyal democrat, Mark Lampert, but he also left democrat Slatkin and democrat Hickman and Lampert off the ballot. I've seen the ballot and it clearly suggests that Silver is a democrat. He also ran a war room at Hotel Patel and promoted Silver and handed out his ballot and phoned people for Silver and hauled people for Silver and did it all on the democratic party tab. What a guy.

Anonymous said...

No, Biff, I think the person dissin' Daphne is a disgruntled criminal lawyer whom she openly did NOT support in his run for political office. Daphne has had only three adult criminal cases in 10 years of practice against --Marc Lampert, Joe Kutch, and WT Armitage. Now, you do the math!

Anonymous said...

This is beyond anything I have ever read! You guys are totally flipped out. You sound like a small group who desparately want to be a part of the "in" crowd. Most of everything you are saying on this blog is not true.

Anonymous said...

You idiot!! Why would Myron include Slatkin on his ballot when Slatkin was his OPPONENT!!! This is hilarious. How "deep" can this get.

Anonymous said...

Well, it wasn't the Myron ballot, it was the democrat ballot. Get it? He used it to screw over democrats. Nobody thinks he should campaign for Slatkin but the democrat ballot is heavy influence in black area. The democratic party endorsed nobody in the municiple primary. It was a fraud perpetrated by Myron on the democrat voters and the party unwittingly paid for it. Ask Cespiva. They were plenty pissed.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like a pretty smart move to me.

Anonymous said...

Myron only won by ~5%...next election he can be TOAST, if we ALL play our cards right. We will have to suffer him for the next four years if the Feds don't take him out before then. Who knows, the next four years might be fun, with Roy shinning his light on all the Myron, et.al. shenanigans!

Anonymous said...

"You idiot!! Why would Myron include Slatkin on his ballot when Slatkin was his OPPONENT!!! This is hilarious. How "deep" can this get."

Got to agree, anon. What sort of dumbass would put his opponents name on his own sample ballot.

Anonymous said...

I don't know civil - maybe not.
Myron got his ass seriously handed to him by a white brazilian physician on a scooter. Slatkin made a pretty impressive showing in may black precincts. I don't think that folks think that Myron can deliver anymore, particulary if you prevent his sneaky shit. Like the guy said: "you can't fool all of the people all of the time?

Anonymous said...

I hear that Sams black gurus were all over Lower 3rd this afternoon putting up Brewer signs. Maybe they can transfer that .009% of the black vote Sams garnered over to Delores.

Anonymous said...

Maybe you're right. I don't know about ballots but it seems to me that the democratic party ballot would list all of the democrats (and endorse none of the republicans), I think their point is that either it wasn't the official democratic ballot or the Lawson campaign hijacked the ballot. Had to be something wrong because Cespiva/Luneau were pissed and the State party dropped the hammer on him. I guess we will find out.

Anonymous said...

Nobody is disin Daphne. They are talking about the provosky firm.

Jaques will be getting some calls tomorrow. Hell, I might call him for one of those jobs.

Anonymous said...

Jacques is already getting calls. You can bet after this story, he'll be flooded with lots more.

Anonymous said...

Fact is, you have to pay people a decent salary to get and keep them. Private sector can be more lucrative for many of the professional positions. I think it's good that City of Alexandria pays a competitive wage for the executive positions.

Anonymous said...

Lawson's sister is pulling down some serious jack!

Anonymous said...

Contract lawyer is the way to go. You tell them how many hours you worked, they pay you.

Anonymous said...

Lawson's sister is a huge asset. I hope Jacques can satisfy himself of her loyalty and keep her in place. I would anticipate a major change in the legal department. He has two able and attractive assistant city attorneys in-house. I bet he keeps them arround. I don't expect much business to be going accross the street. That will be refreshing. Jacques has a bunch of young smart lawyer friends who he can trust and depend upon. Nice for a change.

Anonymous said...

We are so stupid. All the news conferences about the Bentley Hotel and condos and gas buys were just smoke. Now we have reinstalled the same bunch of self-serving vultures that left us in our current lurch. We are on a "fast track" to ruin.

Anonymous said...

I think Jaques can keep us at least partially on track. He is in for 4 years of fighting and watching the council like a hawk, but I think he's capable. When is Brewer going to concede?

Anonymous said...

In reading this blog I sense that all anyone cares about is being on the winning side and not good governance: “I’m snarkier than you - pfft.” Small wonder this town is toast.

Anonymous said...

I dont know if Brewer will concede but every supporter of hers that I have talked to today have conceeded.

Anonymous said...

Beth, you are one of Brewer's closest confidents. Is she going to run this thing off?

Anonymous said...

snarky

One entry found for snarky.
Main Entry: snarky
Pronunciation: 'snär-kE
Function: adjective
Etymology: dialect snark to annoy, perhaps alteration of nark to irritate
1 : CROTCHETY, SNAPPISH
2 : sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner
- snark·i·ly /-k&-lE/ adverb

Anonymous said...

Beth, you say that the 'town is toast" yet there are a lot of good things going on in Alexandria. We have probably the greatest period of economic growth . Why do you and many like you see ONLY the negative? Isn't there a lot of positive too?
Tell us this. Will the Republican party do ANYTHING to help Delores in her race or will they just do like they aways do. Talk about good governement and then not support local candidates. Is the Republican party going to give her any money or any local support from State or RNC?

Anonymous said...

And putting RANDY WIGGINS name on the GOPAC add in the paper was supposed to do what?

Anonymous said...

I am a dear friend, anon, but I am hardly a political confidante - strange, but true. I was a Bush-Cheney elector in 2000, chaired regional campaigns for many in federal elections, helped Vitter to the US Senate, but no one has asked for my advice on Delores’s campaign. All I’ve done is host fund raisers, staff the HQ and try to get out Delores’s vote. Ergo, I cannot answer your question. Wish I could, but it can’t.

Anonymous said...

Some prominent republicans are already doing their part to move Alexandria forward. For example, republican school board member and all around nice guy Paul Dauzat is Roy's campaign treasurer. He's doing a fine job.

Anonymous said...

She should first seek funding from the democrats thru the M. Lawson Foundation for Promoting the Other Side. They like to back at least one GOP candidate against the competing democrat. If that doesn't work you can contact the republican party.

Anonymous said...

I was told today that Brewer's people have called upon David Vitter to come in and stump the City for her. Will he respond?

Anonymous said...

Sorry to say but the Brewer campaign appears to be much like the Republican party. The party has different levels. There is the Republican women who are asked time and again to do the grunt work and the "elite" of the party reap the benefits and forget who got them there. Sounds like Beth has been asked to do the grunt work but she is not allowed into the "inner circle' of elitist in the Brewer camp which incidentally is growing smaller every day.
Dauzat is not the only Republican supporting Roy. There are many who will be announcing their support in days to come.
In any event I and many like me appreciate you Beth. You have worked tirelessly. I am sorry that the Brewer camp did not recognize that your opinion is very valuable. Of course you can expect a call or a visit "NOW' that its been brought to their attention. But we both know that just like in other campaigns , they won't let you in because some would rather be in charge of a losing campaign than to open the door up to let many get involved to win.

Anonymous said...

If Vitter doesnt want to KILL the political chances of his Rapieds parish office assistant he will stay out of the Alexandria race.

Anonymous said...

Who's this assistant of Vitter and what is he running for?

Anonymous said...

Why in the world would Vitter send anyone here to help Brewer? There's absolutely nothing in this for him. It's not like the Alexandria Repubs are going anywhere else if he doesn't help.

Anonymous said...

To the other anonymous: I was on the RSCC for eight years and tried, desperately and in vain, to get the LAGOP involved in local and parochial races. That body does involve itself in such races, but only in areas below I-10.

Anonymous said...

Lance Maxwell, the Pentecostal kid who runs Vitter's local office. He plans to run for Charlie DeWitt's seat when he term limits next year.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Beth Levy--RSCC only gets involved in local races below I-10.

Anonymous said...

The Vitter Assistants last name is Maxwell and he is running for Louisiana Legislature to replace Charlie Dewitt. If Vitter wants to kill this young mans chances of getting any central La vote he will get into the Brewer election.

Anonymous said...

Then they forget the golden rule, "all politics is local".

Anonymous said...

Beth, the local expertise was needed before Saturday. It's too late now. No way to raise money needed to wage any kind of successful campaign for Nov. 7.

Anonymous said...

Beth I am sorry you got snubbed by the Brewer camp. I suspect it is not the first time you have gotten treated that way in a campaign. Let me invite you to join the Roy campaign. He has people from all areas of our community, from all races, religions and political affiliations. He is very conservative in many areas and I think if you will sit down and talk with him you will find him to be very practicle and reasonable in his thoughts. Unlike the other camp you will be welcomed and appreciated. And you wont even have to call Florida or Monroe to get an appointment to talk to him.

Anonymous said...

Beth it would be great to have you on the Roy team....

Anonymous said...

I agree with anan 10:25:13. I am a republican Roy supporter. Haven't voted Dem in years, but I truly believe he is the best thing for this city right now.

Anonymous said...

I'll bet Glenn Beard hopes Vitter gets involved in the Mayor's race if it would hurt Lance Maxwell. I heard Jacques had lots of support from the Pentacostals. Is that true?

Anonymous said...

Better yet Beth, switch to democrat. The local party leadership is about as conservative as you are anyway.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Anonymous (whatever your number), for your kind words. I do not do political work for “attention and mention.” I do it because I care deeply for this town, for our state and for our country. My father is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He gave up his life; I can give up my time.

Anonymous said...

Maybe there's another "ROY-like" candidate to run for that State Rep. seat?

Anonymous said...

This race is so over with in the minds of most Alexandrians, that talk on the street is more about moving on to the next phase--planning, relationship building and applying for jobs. I've heard that a steady stream of city employees are requesting meetings with Roy.

Anonymous said...

Brewer has attempted to take credit for much of what has been going on at City Hall. For the entirity of NED RANDOLPHS career he has been MR DEMOCRAT. The very liberal leanings of the City and particularly of Mr Randolph AND Mrs Brewer certainly make her very UN REPUBLICAN. I can not see how slapping on a label makes it so. Wonder how Randolph who has depended upon the Democrats his whole life can explain taking sides with a Republican AGAINST the very Party that has wined and dined him all these years. I would hope that if that is Mr Randolphs intent that he NEVER look to the Democrats again for anything after he leaves office. I feel certain the State Dems will feel the same.

Anonymous said...

Is Chris, Jr. planning to run for DeWitt's seat? I've heard a rumor to that effect.

Anonymous said...

Beth, is Randy Wiggins the head of the Republican party in Rapides Parish? If not then why is his name on the advertisement for Vitter and Alexander that was in the paper today?

Anonymous said...

NO Chris Roy will be practicing law for he and his brother who will soon be retiring from the law practice to be our new Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the Randolphs are like the Levys and support quality candidates regardless of party affilliation. The Levys were behind at least one democrat candidate on Sept. 30th. We should learn by their example. I hope that Mr. Levy will run for judge soon.

Anonymous said...

I’m quite sure, Anonymous, that it has to do with the local chapter of GoPAC. Randy is neither on the RPEC nor on the RSCC.

Anonymous said...

Uh. That would be a good idea except that as best I can remember for as long as Ned has asked for OUR vote he has Always supported Democrats over Republicans. Please give me an example of when he has not. Its one thing to have convictions and its another to have them ONLY when you want something in return . The Democrats are the ones who has put Ned into office EVERYtime. It would be ashame to see him go out turning his back on the party that gave him a chance to be Mayor.

Anonymous said...

It says Randy Wiggins, board member. Bet the Chairman of the board is pissed! ha.

Anonymous said...

The Levy's have supported republicans 99% of the time. Ask Beth if she will publicly endorse Jaques. If she does, I might change that statistic.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 10:38:
Randolph has always had the support of both Dems and Repubs here. The party thing hasn't been that important on the local level before now. Though Randolph was always involved on the state and national levels with the party. So, you are saying Brewer is un Republican and Randolph is un Democrat. Which are you? If you are a part of what I think you are, there are much better ways to reach out than issuing threats. Or maybe you just have a sour grapes attitude for an entirely different reason.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 10:43,
I agree that Roy will be the next mayor. I have been impressed with Chris, Jr. and think it would be great to have him in B.R. But, I understand that the practice will be extremely busy for him now.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said, “I hope that Mr. Levy will run for judge soon.”

YIKES!

Anonymous said...

Sour grapes? Where do you get that? Ive been a lifetime Democrat. My father was a democrat and his father was a democrat. They all supported Edward NED Randolph. He has always supported the party. NOW when he is going to leave office he turns his back on the party that DID support him time and again. So if I have sour grapes and you think "im a part of something you think i am" (whatever that means) then please be clear on this. I have worked hard for my party and I amm sure that Ned knows that we , just as the Republicans have always lived by a code that has somethign to do with loyalty. If you do not think it hypocritcal for Ned to have time and again appeared on behalf of other Democrats against good men who were Republicans and even signed letters asking for my support and money because a certain candidate WAS DEMOCRAT then you obviously have some personal issues yourself. And some of us do think it important to be loyal to our beliefs and have very little respect for those who only feel that way when it is to their advantage. And if for some warped reason you see that as a "threat" then you would really be shocked if I said all that i wanted to about honor and loyalty and integrity .

Anonymous said...

I agree. Honor and loyalty seems to have been lost in out society today. Self-serving charlatans are everywhere. I like it when at least I know where someone stands.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 10:49,
I can name at least two times--Dave Treen and Rodney Alexander. There may be more. But yes, he has primarily supported Demos and has supported the party. If I were you, If you are a part of the Demo Party leadership, I would call Ned and discuss it.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead, bring that Levy for judge thing to Buckeye and Tioga. Talk about "Yikes"!

Anonymous said...

ha.

Anonymous said...

I always known Ned to be a good, conservative democrat. I'm just not real sure he's calling his own shots right now.

Anonymous said...

Robert George Levy, Esq. - cradle Episcopalian; Republican; certified Family Law Specialist; married to his first wife for 27 years; father of two accomplished daughters. Oh, he also plays the trumpet, the trombone, the cello and, if need be, your comb. ;->

Anonymous said...

There's not an "advantage" for Ned to support Brewer. In fact, it is the other way around. It is a disadvantage to support her. She got in early, asked for his support way before Roy got in the race. Campaign was a disaster. Now he's screwed if he jumps ship and screwed if he doesn't. The only good way out of this mess is for him to talk her into getting out of the race. It's the best solution for EVERYONE involved. She cannot win. I am CERTAIN he knows it. He's been doing this too long not to realize it. Everyone else knows it too.

Anonymous said...

I hear Ned likes Jacques Roy. The Brewer thing was about friendship and loyalty. But in light of her poor showing and her campaign that almost appeared to be run against the administration, uh, maybe it's time for him to think about what's best for the city, plus party loyalty and legacy. I say, get her out, Ned and then stand with Roy and tell the community you are sure he'll be a great mayor. You can do it! It would be a great way to make your exit.

Anonymous said...

IMHO--Jacques Roy reminds me of a young Ned Randolph when he speaks. When he was young, Ned used to stand up and articulate a vision for the city that captivated his audiences and got them to follow and work with him. It was a breath of fresh air after the torturous Snyder years. Roy is that breath of fresh air now. I predict he will do very well.

Anonymous said...

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Anonymous said...

Beth Levy will never leave the Republican party to support Roy. She is a true conservative through and through. Maybe Ned Randolph truly feels that Delores Brewer is the most qualified candidate, as I do. Maybe he feels an overwhelming sense of loyalty toward her, as I do. Maybe he feels that she has been s--t on and drug through the mud by your party, as I do. Hopefully, he will stand by the lady because he truly feels it's the right thing to do, as I do.

Anonymous said...

Jacques would welcome Beth Levy as a supporter and voter; his campaign has been about crossing party lines to move the city forward.
Republicans such as Paul Dauzat have been embraced by Roy. The Roys are moderate democrats who believe that most of us have more in common than not and are inclusive with everyone.
Conversely, Brewer is controlled by the provosty lawfirm. Soon the attacks will begin on jacques. Mark my words.

Anonymous said...

delores, do the right thing.

spare your intregity, your reputation, and your career, and drop out of the race!!

do you honestly believe for one second that if the provosty firm funds your campaign, we won't know about it? spare your friends. salvage your dignity. face demographics, face reality.

ned likes jacques. he does. he thinks jacques would be a good mayor.

so do people within your own campaign. so does the city of alexandria. it's rare for a candidate to receive 33% of the vote in an election split seven ways.

he's young. he's a lawyer. he'd be perfect for what we need right now. don't listen to the provostys. yes, we all know they're your friends, but they're only supporting you because they expect you to maintain the status quo.

it's all about the benjamins. don't think for one second that jacques roy won't point this out. it'd be his responsibility... and i for one don't think that would be negative. if you stay in i hope roy will talk about every single dime the provostys have made from the taxpayers.

just think about it.

by the way, i voted for you....... and i wouldn't vote for you again.

sorry, that was 300,000. Mr. Ken Pay Me to Sit on my Ass Juneau gets 100,000 annually...please note that that is more than ANY city employee, INCLUDING the Mayor. I would be curious to know what the Purchasing Agent (Joe Dispino)makes....sans Motorola kickbacks of course. Well, on second thought-a comparison with out kickbacks and with would be most interesting...

Who is the acting utilities director, anyway?

daphne is a good lawyer, and a nice person. She has done A LOT of hard work for juv. justice. The sad thing is that Provosty, Sadler et al waited so long to hire their FIRST black associate. I wonder if that tree stump Sadler ever screws up and orders Scotch from her thinking he is at the country club. Anybody do a public records request on that bunch of pompous asses yet?

Oh, BTW-the dildo with chiclets for teeth comment made me laugh out loud.

So we file a missing persons report on Scarlett?

Anonymous said...

LOL about the tree stump attempting to order a scotch from daphne.

Anonymous said...

Right now about 40 prominent black preachers are meeting for breakfast with Roy at a prominent white preacher's home. Yesterday, reports of Roy being at Copeland's for the Wednesday breakfast. Lots of Brewer Sept. 30 supporters were there who now are pledging support for Jacques. He's all over the place. Lot's of excitement, too about his administration. The Brewer supporters are not being turn coats. They, unlike the candidate, realize that this is over. They want to get past this and go back to working together to move the city forward.

Anonymous said...

That kinda talk makes Roseanne Sadler angry.

Anonymous said...

Actually most of them are really there for the free breakfast but if they ain't eaten breakfast with albin that's a very positive omen for Roy.

Anonymous said...

Mrs. Brewer believes she can salvage her reputation by running this off. But, in reality it's just the opposite. She will destroy her reputation by running some attack campaign and losing. It would merely be about revenge. Truth is, the Roy camp doesn't have to be worried about her running this off. She's the one with everything to lose. But she would come across as very impressive by getting out. Ned can say wonderful things about her in her concession press conference. Then Ned should congratulate Roy and tell the community that he'll make a fine mayor and that he hopes citizens will work with him. Brewer should do the same. Alexandrians could put this mess behind us and move forward.

Anonymous said...

If Beth Levy were to switch over to the Roy camp she wld be runout of town on a rail. I know she's mad about losing her spot on the RSCC, but stupid she ain't. Plus she's a loyal Republican. At least I think she is.

Anonymous said...

It's all about $$$. If people are suckered into giving her some because they think she has some kind of a chance, she'll probably remain in la la land and try to run this off. If Provosty firm bankrolls her she'll set up the greatest attack opportunity ever. They only gave her a total of $5 grand for Sept. 30--at least that I could find on the SOS website.

Anonymous said...

Who made it a mess???? Roy. You can talk all day about who did what first, but the thought that something someone said on a blog warrants a full scale attack on an individual is poppycock. Believe me, this will come back to haunt him. I, for one, hope it does. Jacques Roy's true colors were exposed during this campaign. And don't come back with this sweet, well-meaning boy crap. It just doesn't fly after his shenanigans against Ms. Brewer.

Anonymous said...

Scarlet is still here, she's just using her real name now.

Anonymous said...

Having Fletcher nuke this City and everyone in it and still lose would be sad. I'm not sure we'd ever recover.

Anonymous said...

Ref to the salaries revealed by the media, with the jobs that most of these clowns do the city should save thier salaries and do something meaningful such as control crime, clean the city up(see delores ads on tv) refund some of our utility money with the wasted money on items such as downtown concerts and other bullshit programs that the city does not need to be involved in. The salaries paid to these employees are outlandish compared to what the average government workers make

Anonymous said...

The city would recover against a Fletcher attack. Mrs. Brewer would not.

Anonymous said...

I love that Anon 8:52 still believes everything in the paper. Yeah, the paper was correct, it was the meanies on the blogs that made Roy retaliate and not the poll calls telling people that evil trial lawyer-Roy sued everyone but Delores herself.

You should also believe everything that is written on this blog. Beeelieevee...Yoooooooo...aarrrre...aaaa.... dumbassssssss...

Anonymous said...

You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and when to run.

Anonymous said...

If Delores stays in we all suffer a triple loss:
1. We have to go thru the agony and expense of a bitter campaign and delayed result;

2. The city won't have the benefit of Brewer's knowledge, experience & skill because after another season on insult swapping there will no way that Roy could gracefully offer or Brewer could accept a position with the city, even though she could provide a valuable service and get her life back on track;

3. Some of the present council members are trying to act as power brokers for the black vote and it will give them undeserved leverage. This is doubley dishonest because a Brewer victory is a logistic impossibity.

On the other hand, P, S. & D is toast and I would relish seeing them spend a load of jack on the way out.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you on points 1, 2 and 3. But P,S & D are only toast with the city. Surely the firm has lots of other business.

Anonymous said...

Surely, but you knock out COA, England Authority, and various natural outgrowths like Hotel Patel, and they will probably have to change out to smaller light bulbs. They have acted as power and influence brokers and policy makers in recent years. I think that will fade and Roy & Co. take the reins. Don't forget that we got a new sheriff riden into town and they will likely bring new lawyers like Rocky Willson, Mike Shannon, John Flynn, and Chris, Jr.

Then there will be Peace in the Valley.

Anonymous said...

I agree. P S & D, unlike Brewer, actually have bridges to burn, and they are torching them as we speak.

Anonymous said...

Not so fast on that "new Sheriff" thing bucko.

Did Flynn file a new public records request yesterday?

"Who made it a mess???? Brewer."

Poppycock????

Shenanigans????

You sound like someone who did too many Irish car bombs at Finnegans Wake.

Get real. Roy told the truth about Brewer, and if she stays in this race and hires Fletcher to run a smear campaign, Roy should continue to tell the truth about Brewer.

Anonymous 10/05/06 8:47:57 am,

I am, indeed, a loyal Republican and I am not “mad” that I relinquished my seat on the RSCC. At the time of qualifying, I was in the hospital in Shreveport. My neurosurgeon said I would be fine, so someone qualified for me. The person who qualified against me did not know of my excellent prognosis and qualified. It was a perfectly reasonable move.

Having served eight years on that body, I was rather relieved someone was willing to take my place and did absolutely nothing to retain my seat. In fact, had I known of the interest, I would not have qualified in the first place. Later, had I known of the turn of events in time, I’d have removed my name from the ballot. As it was, wheels were already in motion to do a lit drop on my behalf – something I couldn’t stop. Had I been able to do so, I would have. When a phone bank was offered, I happily declined.

You see, it’s not about me; it’s about the work. Granted, I did enjoy my time on the RSCC and found the work rewarding. Nevertheless, the responsibility does, eventually, become onerous and I was bordering on burnout. Thankfully, my replacement is fresh, energetic and is doing a fine job.

One more thing, to another anonymous one: I am not Scarlet. She is a dear friend, but I am not she.

Moreover, I am not supporting Delores Brewer simply because she is an “R” next to her name. ;->

No, Scarlett is someone else.

Yeah, Beth's a much better writer than Scarlett ever was.

Scarelett has done a Houdini. Big talker last week . I would have thought her a bigger person to come back AFTER the war.

Scarlett was obviously a cheerleader with a complete absence of substance or character. Being with Delores ain't quite so much fun now so Scarlett splits. I assure you that the Brewer effort or chances won't be deminished by her graceless departure.

maybe since the blogs are being watch so closely for any signs of campaign negativity they took scarlets keyboard away?

Scarlett, Now that you have shown us "how it is done", we can all be friends and it is relatively safe to come back and play. Does anyone have any idea how many deliquent utility accounts there are or who could reveal that information? The La Convention center is toast and I heard the homeless shelter that burned was without electricity due to disconnect of a $17,000.00 past due balance as well as another hotel is reputed to be quite in arrears. I realize that some of this info may be innaccurate and that is why I am asking if anyone else is hearing these rumblings?

Whoever is comparing Jacque to Ned is completely absurd! What an insult to Ned. I know Ned and Debra would agree, because I have heard them say that.

Anonymous said...

All we could compare would be their relative skill and success at bar and you are right. There is no comparison. Jacques is a good lawyer with an excellent reputation. I think it is unfair to deify Ned at this late date. Greatness escapes many of us and we have to be satisfied that we did our best.

Anonymous said...

"Whoever is comparing Jacque to Ned is completely absurd! What an insult to Ned. I know Ned and Debra would agree, because I have heard them say that."

Wow. What a mean-spirited thing to say.

I know both of them, and they're both really great people.

I've also heard that Ned likes Jacques. He told a friend of mine that he was supporting Delores, but that Jacques was also a good choice.

People compare Jacques to Ned because when Ned first entered office, he was a young lawyer who got right down to business.

Anonymous said...

I personally think your recollection is clouded by sentimentality. Ned had an easy act to follow but he has been manipulated, controlled and used since he first took office. He was never a strong peron. Sorry. I like him too, but all this gushing does nobody any good.

Anonymous said...

eh. but there's no use in bashing him.

Anonymous said...

I am simply disagreeing with some of the very inflated characterizations of Ned on this site. I like Ned enough to accept him for what and who he was and is. I mean to bash no one and if that is how it appears I apologize.

Anonymous said...

Of course Ned would say that because unlike the people in Jacques corner, Delores supporters don't take offense to someone not voting for her. I know Ned personally and he doesn't agree with Jaques supporters negative attitude towards Delores and her supporters. Even if he does win, he will have to prove himself to alot of people and he will be held accountable and not just for his passion.

Anonymous said...

I completely and respectfully agree.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know who Jacques chief of staff will be when he gets elected? I've heard rumors of Billy Allen or Jimmy Whittle, both great ideas. Go Jacques!

Anonymous said...

campaigns can be tough when a lot is at stake.

Anonymous said...

Jimmy Whittle is a capable manager and a nice guy. Allen is just a nice guy (just rode a century old family business into the dirt). The position won't be as critical with a real mayor.

Anonymous said...

Well we finally appear to have a consensus. All seem to agree that Roy will win - just some question about exactly what that will mean. Don't forget that we left him that bad-ass council to contend with. Gonna have to be some lines in the sand. I don't envy his first year. I think both he and Delores were hoping for some council changes.

Anonymous said...

What do you mean by a real mayor?

Anonymous said...

What are Jacques for the city besides bringing more bands here?

Anonymous said...

I mean a young healthy vigorous smart enthusiastic chief executive who won't be manipulated by trusted attorneys or kow towed by an aggressive council. Ya know, a real mayor.

Anonymous said...

No it's not Scarlett - I'm much worse. Let's go!

Anonymous said...

I think jacques's plans are to improve the city for everyone including middle-class educated employed productive self-sustaining english-speaking people and their families. That's refreshing because democrats usually don't care for them at all.

Anonymous said...

" No it's not Scarlett - I'm much worse. Let's go!"

Where are we going?

Anonymous said...

Are you talking about Jacques or Delores because it sounds like you're talking about Delores.

Anonymous said...

anon 7:37, you must be confused and thinking of another party besides the democrats

Anonymous said...

I'm talking about the new mayor. We all know who that is. However, it will be difficult to overshadow Brewer's monumental record of achievement during her two decades at the city's helm and trough.

Anonymous said...

I heard David Crutchfield will be chief of staff, either way.

He covered for Delores, so she owes him.

He went to Menard with Roy.

But its ok, David is a great guy.

Anonymous said...

Jacques the Vote!!!!! hell yeah!

Is this a student council race or what? When are his handwritten posters being distributed? "Jacques likes to rock - vote me for president of Alexandria"

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU OCT 5 2006 2:53:48 ET XXXXX

CLAIM: FILTHY FOLEY ONLINE CHATS WERE PAGE 'PRANK GONE AWRY'
**World Exclusive**
**Must Credit the DRUDGE REPORT**

According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.

The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the investigation.

The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.

The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

"Where are all of the Roy supporters? When the going gets rough ya'll obviously back down. Is this a sign of the future of Alex?"

"...going gets rough"???

What are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

Two things on my mind today about all this, particularly at this time. I think the only relevant question... Since we know what Foley did. Foley has resigned and he's gone to wherever, rehab or what have you. So the problem, as it relates to this particular incident, has been resolved. It has been corrected. So the first question I have is, "How did these instant messages find their way into the public domain?" Now, when this story first popped last Friday and throughout the weekend, I will be honest with you and I will share with you -- and I did on Monday -- my original suspicions were not to doubt the truth or veracity of the actions of Congressman Foley, but it's October.

It's an election season. I know Democrats like every square inch of my glorious naked body, not just the back of my hand, and I'll be honest with you, folks: the first question that popped into my mind was, "Who saves instant messages like this?" Who saves them? Especially of this nature! These are embarrassing; these are things that you would hope nobody would ever see. Why save 'em? So I began answering the question, why save 'em? Well, maybe a plot. Maybe these pages were set up. Maybe these pages were threatened. I don't think anything is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to dirty tricks as practiced by Democrats, by liberals. Nothing. I don't think anything is out of bounds.

So I asked myself, and I sent e-mails to friends. I said, "Why would a kid save these messages, fifty-two of them or whatever?" Why? Three years ago, two years, why save these things? Was the page a Republican- or Democrat-appointed page? I didn't know any of this when I was asking these questions. Was the page approached by somebody who said, "Look, we want you to get involved here. Titillate this guy. Draw him out. We know this guy's got these proclivities, and we want to get a record of this"? Would a kid do that, I ask myself. Well, the kid could be easily intimidated by another member of Congress as well or whoever else.

The kid could also be an activist. Activists happen at very young ages. Maybe the kid was threatened; maybe the kid was paid. These are the questions that went through my mind, I'm just telling you, not that I didn't doubt what Foley had done, that didn't cross my mind, but I could not eliminate from the equation potential Democrat involvement -- it's October! And they do this! So then today, or last night, when I finally learned the identity of the page, Jordan Edmund, who is in Oklahoma working as an assistant campaign manager for Ernest Istook, a former congress, Republican, now running for governor there, I said, "Hmm. So the page must be a Republican."

So that sort of canceled out the whole notion that the Democrats might have been behind it...partially. Then I said, "No, maybe not. Who knows what this page has done in his life? Who knows?" Anybody is blackmail-able, especially young kids. I'm just telling you what was in my mind. These are the things swirling through the deep, dark crevices of my fertile brain. Then, I read today that the page has gone out and hired a lawyer, Stephen Jones, who represented McVeigh. It doesn't matter who the lawyer is. The fact he's McVeigh's lawyer is not relevant to me, but why get a lawyer? If you are totally innocent, and if you are the victim, why get a lawyer?

I said, "Okay, maybe you gotta prepare for Foley to say later on, 'This is all made up! This never happened!' Why get a lawyer? Maybe you want to negotiate book and movie deals." Why get a lawyer? Maybe, maybe the page -- my original theory -- is out there engaged in some kind of chicanery. You know, kids play pranks, too. Maybe they were laughing at Foley in the page room. Maybe Foley's making these advances, and maybe they said, "Let's egg this guy on." You know, I've done my share of pranks. So it's for that reason that I ask: How in the world did these instant messages find their way into the public domain after such a long time?

Now, the Radar website (it's sort of a gossip page out there) ran a piece last night, "The Bogus Blog Behind Foley's Fall -- ABCNews.com brought Mark Foley's boy-chasing to national attention, but it wasn't the first website to flog the story. That dubious honor belongs to StopSexPredators, a pseudo-vigilante blog filled with plagiarized, hastily-assembled posts, which no one seems to have heard of, visited, or linked to before last week -- and whose operator has a suspiciously savvy grasp of the news cycle. In other words, a blog whose sole [reason for existing] seems to have been to get the Foley ball rolling. If its time/date stamps are to be trusted (like most free blogware, Blogger allows its users to backdate posts), the pervert-outing anony-site was set up on July 28 as a 'clearing house for the public to report sex predators and as a resource for concerned citizens.'

"One early post, headlined The Sickening Six, naming and shaming the 'kinds of sick people who hunt minors for their own sick purposes,' is basically an amalgam of plagiarized entries from Crimelibrary, Wikipedia, and Answers.com. (Click here, here, and here, for examples.) After running just six posts over the summer, the site picked up steam on September 21 when its author wrote, 'the blog has been noticed and some shocking emails have been received!!!!' and posted four emails purportedly from 'interns' outraged by the heretofore unmentioned Foley and his penchant for teenage boys. (Of course, if these emails are legit, it means the 'interns' somehow stumbled upon the blog, despite the fact that it had not yet been linked to by any other sites, and was virtually indetectible [sic] to Google, which ranks sites according to the number of incoming links.)

"One 'intern' wrote: '...I came to Washington because I care about the future of America. I wanted to be around good and decent men like President George Bush. Instead, I feel like a piece of meat. The worst part of it for me is there appear to be plenty of my fellow interns who don't mind Foley's particular 'path to power.' Three days later, the blogger posted the now infamous 'Emails from Congressman Foley to 16 Year Old Page!!!!', claiming they'd been sent in by a reader (despite the fact that they appeared to be scans of faxed printouts). Persons unknown then seeded the link to various political sites — including Wonkette, which initially dismissed them as fakes. ABC, of course, took them more seriously. Whoever promoted the story on DailyKos did so only 12 minutes after the fateful post went live at 11:06 a.m."

So an obscure website that you couldn't even find by searching Google because it had only six hits opens in July, asks for e-mails from people on sexual predators over the Internet, ends up with Foley e-mails. ABC looks at them. While others think they're fake, ABC says, "Ooooooh, we're on to something," and bam! The ball gets rolling. "The Bogus Blog Behind Foley's Fall." So I ask: How did these instant messages get out there? How did they find their way into the public domain?

This is an election season; the Democrats are on a tear trying to get Hastert to resign. Speaking of Hastert... I hope he gets to the bottom of this, and I hope they're able finger all the perps out there on this, folks. But I'm telling you, this is something that is about far more than what we are being led to believe by the Drive-By Media who's doing their usual drive-by hit job on this, taking this as an occasion to tar and feather the entire Republican Party and leadership, gay-bashing, equating gay behavior with pedophilia. That's what they have done, I think accidentally, but they could be called on it. So I ask again, how did these e-mails reach the public domain, and why has the page hired a lawyer?

US congressman fires aide for allegedly writing to convicted killer while on the job
The Associated Press

Published: September 6, 2006

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana A U.S. congressman fired an aide because she was allegedly corresponding with Scott Peterson, a California man convicted of killing his pregnant wife in a prominent trial, while she was on the job.

Rep. Rodney Alexander, a Louisiana Republican, fired Theresa Mares in mid-August, spokesman Adam Terry said Wednesday. Mares had worked for Alexander since he first took office in 2003 and was a caseworker in the congressman's Alexandria office in central Louisiana.

Terry said Alexander learned of Mares' letters to Peterson from a reporter with the tabloid National Enquirer. In August, the tabloid reported that Mares sent at least 18 letters to Peterson professing her love for the convicted killer.

Terry said Alexander decided to fire Mares because she was "using government resources to personally communicate with Scott Peterson."

"Ms. Mares' actions have been embarrassing to our office and demonstrate that her views are politically incompatible with those of the congressman," Terry said.

Mares could not be reached for comment; her number was not listed.

Peterson was sentenced to death in 2004 for killing his wife and their unborn son. Their bodies were found on the shore of San Francisco Bay months after her December 2002 disappearance. Peterson is on death row in San Quentin Prison in California.

That is really sick to blame the boys who were targeted by Foley for egging him on. You are a scumbag sicko. No doubt about it.

You are a Rush Limbaugh flunkie, "blame the victim," liar. If a Democrat had been accused, Rush would have been DEMANDING his head. But because it was a Republican, he is blaming the messenger and the victims? What a sad state of affairs. Hastert was told several years ago. There is no excuse for this. If the party does not do the right thing, those involved deserve to be brought down.
