Cenla Antics

Cenla Antics

In reading today's issue of the Town Talk, I was rather taken a back to find that this blog has attracted so much attention. Although I appreciate Mr. White's request of posting authors using their real names, he seems to not understand that it defeats the purpose of the blog. Would Mr. White stand and deliver if he had a problem with his neighbor? (use a scenario that fits here folks). I think not ... it would cause undue harm to relationship that needs to work. Hence the anonymity postings on this blog. Mr. White I applaud your interest and your intent; however, I do not think that it will work in all cases.

Now Mr. White to stir the pot a little. IF the Town Talk and KALB actually did a little investigative reporting this blog would be a moot point now would it not? In they're selective reporting, they have sewn the seed that created Cenla Antics. So Mr. White, in finding the answers to the many questions being asked by the public, would not the "real" media use unidentified sources?

In closing, I am aware that I need to spend some time on archiving old postings. I hope to have this done within the next week or two. I would also like to address a statement made on this blog a few postings back. I have never deleted any postings on this blog. In my opinion to do so would again, take away from the purpose that created this blog.

I remain,

ANONYMOUS

thanks a lot for the new thread. after reading lamar's column we dont think that he is condemning anonymous posting hes just mentioning it to make a point. that point being that anonymous posting has its good and bad points. no one disagrees with your assertion that both the town talk and kalb are pretty sorry sources of real news.
again thanks for this post and the new thread.

What will the sheriff announce about his future, Monday?

I have never seen one comment disappear from this blog which cannot be said for Lamar's. It amazes me also that the public can glean their news from KALB and the TT and feel knowledgable of current events. Their dragnet has big holes. Thanks for the forum.

Dear Mr. Antics,

At its best, I believe your blog serves as an invaluable source of information and news in Central Louisiana. For this reason, I mentioned Cenla Antics in my column in yesterday's paper. In an earlier draft of the column, I had expressed the hope that all readers of the Town Talk would peruse your blog for information they would not otherwise receive. I believe that particular sentence was edited out.

I also understand the reasons some people chose to remain anonymous, and though I was initially frustrated with the whole enterprise, I know more now about the blogosphere than I did when I first hit the local scene. As WeSawThat said, I tried to express both the positive and the negative aspects of anonymity.

Thank you for beginning this new thread, and I look forward to contributing to your blog in the future.

To Spanky: I have never deleted anyone's comments on my blog other than my own. Typically, I delete a comment in order to make spelling or grammatical changes. That said, I have no problem using my discretion as a moderator in order to delete threatening personal remarks toward a particular person. Thankfully, I have not had to exercise that option yet.

The sheriff announced he is not running again. Do you want Mike Slocum, his "KIN" to be elected? This would amount to Slocum being a puppet on a string and just running the office the way Sheriff Hilton would want it run.

What about the other candidates? There are good quality candidates out there who DO NOT PLAY THE GOOD OLE BOY GAME and have a true desire to serve the public, not just hold the office because of the power?

Anonymous said...

Did I hit a nerve? Sorry. More probing ahead.

Blogger said...

Spanky,

No you didn't hit a nerve. I just wanted to make sure that you knew I haven't had to delete anyone's comments.

Are you still running for mayor?

Anonymous said...

Why would I do that? There are too many people that think the status quo is fine and this race is going to be bloodsport. The loser(s) may want to consider relocating and since this is my home, I would rather be a spectator.

I just spent way too much time reading the diatribe on this blog from the past several months. Whew!! I now know what our city officials and candidates are doing with their spare time.
Cenla Antics has put his finger on the problem that everyone wants to solve. We all want a local newspaper that cares about it's local customers. How hard can it be to either purchase the TT or truly provide the competition that will force it to the will of its customers? I for one think that 10 people with some serious cash could buy out the TT and change it, or a few thousand people could refuse to purchase the Gannet products and instead give their money to another news source.
What I would give to see a reporter on TV interviewing Ned or Sir Hilton with some pointed questions. How about a picture of local politicians meeting their late night associates? The opportunities to shed light on our politicians occur every night in some bar. It doesn't take a lot of effort. Just think about the power struggle in this parish that could be started. Why have we allowed this monopoly to keep us in the dark? It sounds to me that we would rather just rant on and brag about how much inside information we know about, and argue about whether my source is better than yours, and I can use spell check and you can't, etc. We have gotten to the point where we care more about a comment disappearing from a blog than we do about the truth disappearing from our newspaper. Our founding fathers guaranteed us freedom of the press, but they did not guarantee us a press. It is about time we had one in Rapides Parish!

Blogger said...

George,

Amen. You make some great points, and I, no doubt, am one of those spell check jerks. I'll try to curb my enthusiasm for the spell check.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said: We should demand real, probing journalism, particularly during an election year. I think several people at the Town Talk are doing a fantastic job, and it's important to note that it's not their fault. The paper is owned by Gannett, and it's hard to see how a large national company (which rotates reporters and staffers every four years or so) can effectively and consistently report on a community like Alexandria.

At its best, I think the blogs can fill a void created by our local news organizations.

As far as the late night meetings with "business associates," this really isn't as much of a mystery as one would think. Indeed, it's probably exactly as you imagine it to be.

Please continue to contribute. We need more balanced, reasoned voices to help set the tone for this discussion. Currently, we seem to be overrun with individuals who'd prefer to distract us with unproductive and unsubstantiated gossip and innuendo.

Keep on,

Lamar

Will Charlie Dewitt run for sheriff? What kind of guy is he?

Thanks for the comments, but I kinda disagree with your assumption that everybody knows about the skeletons. Just because you know, does not mean that I or anybody else knows. I think that about as many people vote as know about the skeletons. Correlation? I think so. The more that people know, the more people vote. If the turnout is low, the news media failed.
We are in a transition as to how we obtain our news fueled by the rapid advancement of technology and the failure of our traditional news media to stay competitive. It looks as if the future will force us to obtain our news from ever changing sources. Eventually Gannett will be forced to change or sell out, just as changing markets forced Chrysler, IBM, and Enron to do.
Keep up the good stuff on your site.

charlie dewitt is a consumate good old boy network operative and hardly deserves to be a state representative much less sheriff of this parish. here is his campaign financial disclosure from 1999 (the most recent we could find) as you can see hes totally owned by the nursing home industry as well as lawyers and the usual suspects including tommy antoon, barron heinberg and brocato, richard crowell et al.
note: at the top of the page click next page to navigate through the report the list of individual contributors is a few pages in.

From the report:

White Property Management -$200.00
Caldwell White Banker Realty -$200.00
Richard Crowell $200.00
Barry Hines $1,800

Would appear Chawlie is in the pocket of the Whites and Hines not Crowells.

I don't understand what your implying.

Thank you for the new string and for what I think is a wonderful way to take Central Louisiana kicking and screaming into the future. As a person who values the profession of journalism and who works for KALB-TV I would like to invite anyone on this blog to join us in a morning or afternoon editorial meeting. If you have something you think needs to be investigated please let us know about it. But remember, we ask for three independent sources and in the years I have worked for the organization we have never been sued for knowingly airing an inaccurate story. That’s the problem with anonymous (Encarta Dictionary: whose name is not known or not given)…the word itself is journalistically unethical because there is no source. At its heart someone needs to know the identity of the source. Remember Deep Throat. Three people knew who he was until recently. Rumors ruin people’s lives and are NOT journalism, they are just that, rumors with no factual evidence and neither the Town Talk, Northside Journal nor KALB will do the residents of this fine city any service by dignifying them with exposure.
Put up or shut up, come out of the dark with your supposed “exclusive” stories and help your local media keep them (the corrupt officials you so want to bust) honest. It is at the heart of what a free society is built on.

wst... said...

lol anon we saw those entries before we posted that link. however, you have to take it in context. remember lamar was only 15 or 16 years old back in '99 and its doubtful the shareholders of either white real estate or white property management consulted with him on the matter.
and if you noticed the nursing homes gave dewitt thousands of dollars.

wst... said...

hmm looks like michelle told us lmao but seriously though it sounds like kalb is wanting us to do their job for them. there is already tons of information out there from the public record. for example all the bills filed into the legislature are right there on its website legis.state.la.us why cant you guys peruse those bills yourself and find relevant stories? same with the city council(s) and police jury. it seems that kalb doesnt have any investigators could it be because you guys only hire these fresh out of college kids who dont have a clue about this community and the things that go on here?

Anonymous said...

we saw that…you mean hiring young professionals like the intelligent young man Lamar White who you give your respect to because he is from the area and has the ability to communicate with clarity? That is a big issue in reaching these barn burning stories you speak of, people like you do not seem to give the youth respect enough to grasp that they are new to the area and are looking for help. Help from the all powerful know it alls like yourself who could give a fresh perspective untouched by political need.
Give up the complaints and become a part of the solution. Otherwise you are just what you sound like...a part of the problem.
Do you have a story idea? Call 445-6397 we will listen, after all “We’re on Your Side”

wst... said...

hey michelle thanks for your reply but lets be honest here. the reason kalb hires these young people is because you all dont have to pay them jack.

and another thing why are you implying that you cant do a story unless and until some "civilian" contacts you and points it out to you? that goes back to research and investigation. theres nothing wrong with you or your young reporters perusing blogs, public documents or whatever to ferret out story ideas etc.

however its all in vain anyway because in this new internet age channel 5 the town talk and the rest of the Main Stream Media are irrevelant. for example when we want to know whats going on in alexandria we jam over to lamar's blog. if we want to know whats happening statewide we go on c.b. forgotston's blog - or blogs like them. others in the burgeoning central louisiana blogosphere will take their cue from this blog and blogs like lamar's and soon anything and everything will be discussed right here in the internet.

How right you are...which is why I am soliciting your input here on this blog. But here is my question, are you sure what is talked about on these blogs is real or is it rumor? Call us what you like but we are accountable. We can not make blanket statements anonymously without opening ourselves up to lawsuits and being unethical. Still I salute the spirit of a blog and know it is the future of my business. I hope to read more vigorous discussions as I have for these past months. If I comment at all it will be with my name...and by the way the starting salary of a KALB reporter is the same in Alexandria, Louisiana as Richmond, Virginia which is why I recruit and get bright capable people like the ones we have on staff. And that means our jobs here don’t suck, have you ever thought of the cost of living here compared to Richmond?

you have to learn to be discerning and learn which are b.s. and which sincere. you have to look at a lot of sources and sort it all our for yourself. especially if you see something that you know about posted; you gotta be a good googler lmao.
bright capable people like the ones we have on staff
alright alright a few of the commentators on here might be a bit um...surley - dont take it personally its just banter. keep up.

in the blogosphere we the bloggers decide that; here you prove yourself or you fall to the wayside.

To "we saw that"...You're an airhead, and don't have a clue as to how the medis REALLY works. Pay attention junior, here's the deal.

Newspapers, TV, and Radio report the news everyday. You pay attention to the outlet to get the news. ADVERTISERS, pay the outlet to pitch their product or service because they know you are there to get the news.

ADVERTISERS pay the bill to bring you the NEWS. If the outlet is not accurate in their reporting, pretty soon the outlet will have their advertiserd sitting across from them demanding to know why the outlet has spewed forth rumor.

In effect, outlets are accountable to the advertisers, and if one complains, you better be able to back up what you report, or your revenue source goes bye-bye.

The exception to this rule is airhead bloggers like you who don't have a clue about digging for the FACTS, and the Clown Talk because Gannett owns them and they don't depend on the local advertisers for their main source of revenue.

Right now there are only two reliable sources for accurate news in Alexandria/Pineville, KALB and The Northside Journal. Don't expect much from the Journal, they are new, small, and publish once a week. Even the editor will tell you that they focus on North Rapides and South Grant. No help in Alexandria. They do plan to move south eventually, but for now, they're no help in Alexandria. That leaves us with KALB. I suggest you get your head out of the sand and bring them something that is worth investigating, give them multiple facts and let their staff look into it.

But just because some blogger like you posts it don't make it true.

To the veracity of blogger comments, where there is smoke, there may be a smoldering ember of truth. Let the oxygen of investigaion work its magic and you may see the flame of truth erupt. Many of the comments may have no validity but, that is only known after a cursory investigation. Rumors are a fertile source for leads and some prove to be more ferilizer than fertile - that is proven by a cursory investigation, not by if I can't see it it doesn't exist. There have been comments made and actions viewed through the lens of time that indicate a pattern of sweetheart deals and well concealed reallocation of public funds that are never investigated or anger the public to the point of demanding the truth. Our city utility department is a good place to start and follow the money to where it leads (Lead / Clue # 1) Can I get an amen from anyone with the city?

lol you make our point for us. bloggers can post whatever they want and its up to the reader to determine whats credible and whats not. apparantly you have been letting the media do your thinking for you. we guess its easier for you that way rather than getting out there and digging for yourself. too much thinking probably gives you a headache. did you know that kalb is owned by media general? media general is a media monolith with its own agenda.
just like gannett.

also bloggers arent constrained by what advertisers or stockholders or the home office think.

No dimbulb, I don't make your point for you, you're too stupid to see mine. You seem intent of forcing your OPINION on everyone, and when we don't agree, and propose an alternate view, you refuse to consider that you might be mistaken.

I don't deal in what ifs, maybes, and half-asses opinions. I deal with facts.

Bloggers CAN post whatever they want to and not be held accountable because their writings are OPINIONS! The media must report verifiable FACT. If they don't they get sued and lose ad revenue. That, my dear blogging airhead IS FACT.

No, the media does not form my OPINIONS. But neither does the rantngs of some ill informed blogger. Wanna talk credibility? I sure trust Michelle Goddard before I would trust you.

Back up what you say on your blog with verifiable fact and then ask me to believe you. Untill you can put your money where your mouth is, you're just another fart in the wind.

Oh, and one more thing. Everyone knows that KALB is Media General. Go back to my post and READ CAREFULLY junior. Now, go check the amount of ad space in the Clown Talk that is NATIONAL AD CONTRACTS, who, by the way don't give a rats ass about who is stealing from who at city hall. Since thay are not dependent on local revenue, they don't care what they report or how. Leggett, Morgan, Goodnight, and Sutherland just wander around town, attending social functions and sucking up the free booze and food.

Because you're a blogger you seem to think that a presence on the web gives you instant credibility. Breaking news dimbulb, it don't.

Spew your OPINION all you want junior, but when it come REPORTING FACTS, you ain't got a clue.

Spanky has hit the nail on the head. KALB and the town talk need to hire a few reporters to hit the streets and give us some real local news. There was a time when newspapers and TV dug into, and exposed wrong doing in politics. Of course that was back in the old days.

I am in advertising sales for the TT and let me tell you the truth. National advertising is down 30% thanks to the cell phone companies merging/selling out(one of the biggest revenue sources) and the gorcery stores(thank you wal-mart no friend to papers) going bankrupt. Trust me I lost 60k in revenue over last year due to a national advertiser going to the internet. The TT is in serious need for LOCAL advertising to replace only a portion the millions the TT has lost in national advertising. It is a trend across all papers nation wide big and small. Most of the national ad revenue is going to the internet so newspapers have realized this losing battle and now focus on local ad revenue. THEY ARE NOT BEHOLEDEN TO ANY NATIONAL ADVERTSITERS. Gannett makes no national ad requirements. Its biggest push is for local advertisers. I know for a fact that KALB is in the same boat

Anonymous said...

...LMAO another Clown Talk lie. Your local ad revenue is down because your out of state parent company can'r seem to grasp local flavor. Face it, this is the buckle of the bible belt. We're conservative, and hate politicaly correct, left wing, liberal slanted reporting. When your editors in their ivory towers give the public what they want, locals will begin to advertize again. Until then they will spend their money in local publications like Cenla Focus and The Northside Journal. Better start looking for another job buddy.

Anonymous said...

You dummy, people aren't buying ads in the TT because your rates are too high. (thank you Gannett) Also, local people resent the TT taking their money and sending it out of state

Thanks so much for contributing, Michele. I beg to differ with your need for "leads." Even crime stoppers uses anonymous tips to aid in fighting crime. Thanks for citing Deep Throat as a source. You make our points for us. One tip lead the INVESTIGATIVE journalists on a merry trip through history and lead to the downfall of a president. If you could take a few tips from the bloggers and do the leg work of investigative journalism, it may reap some big rewards in your career. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that something is not fragrant in Denmark in and around city hall and hasn't been for a number of years.

I wrote you several months ago about the demise of the mall, but apparently that's not something that is in the interest of the news organizations locally. We don't need no stinkin mall!

hehehe well we always associate the da with tom searcy because a few years ago he was running for something a judgeship seems like.

we dont remember exactly. well it just so happened that a few days before the election denise brown sister of nicole brown simpson was in town to speak at some battered womens symposium or some such.

anyway, she was interviewed by kalb in studio, during the course of the interview the reporter mentioned that a candidate had spouse abuse charges lodged against him in the past what did ms brown think of that and her response was not to vote for him. thats always stuck in our mind and also cindy searcy is a member of the ogden middleton victims coalition - which we have posted about.

we dont know walsh, searcy, judge johnson, ms gutweiler, mike small and the rest of the people involved. also we have never been prosecuted or defended by any of these people. mentioning searcy in that post - it was an honest mistake but a mistake nevertheless which we regret.

thankfully, it was pointed out to us rather quickly and we corrected it.

also anyone that read the sources that we cited would have immediately knew that it was walsh and not searcy that we meant and would have known that we were incorrect.

HOW TO DESTROY AMERICA (including CENLA)

"If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall, and that, 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said. "Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon - all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons and Corsicans.'"

Lamm went on, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds."

"We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multi-ethnic and multi-cultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an America, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.'"

Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities.

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology'. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks: The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy Persia threatened their liberty. Yet, all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors…local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum,' we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits - make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity'. I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th Century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate."

"Having made America a bilingual -- bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: 'That because immigration has been good for America, it must ALWAYS be good.' I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. The profound silence allowed me to hear my heart beating. Finally, he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Every discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate "diversity." American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as greedy corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, 10 million illegal aliens and growing, fast.

It reminded me of George Orwell's book, 1984. In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength." I sat there as one of the most patriotic Americans I know, Governor Lamm, walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy, is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially the American Dream.

Anonymous said...

Our politicians seem to be asleep at the switch on immigration. If heavy fines were levied on employers who hire illegals the illegal immigration problem would slowly die. If they knew they couldn't get hired when they come here they'd seek legal methods of getting here. English should be mandatory for becoming a legal citizen. Illegals should not be allowed in schools, and they should not be eligible for medical care unless in the case of extreme emergency. And when they seek extreme medical attention, they should be made to understand that upon regaining their health they will be sent back to their homeland. Illegals should NOT be eligible for any kind of social giveaway programs, period!

The new Chief is of the right ethnicity. Light skinned he is in case you havn't noticed.

Cicardo could have walked on water and stilled would be criticize for his action because of his ethnicity.

In case you havn't notice the Italian Comunity is not running the City the African community is.

Anonymous said...

The Chief and Myron share 2 things in common, desire to run the City (political power) and a strong desire to be caucasian. Seems one desire has been achieved.

CAROLYNS DAUGHTER said...

Thank you for the lesson on color reason, but why the obvious TT bias in the past. Now journalist have been changed around and the CEO publisher Newhouse exit stage left in the dead of night. VERRRY STRANGE!!! THIS ALL AFTER TC'S BOOK RELEASED. They bought several books, then slammed it in the TT.
CFS called it thrash and true. I laughted my ass off. One said a must read for Alexandria. TT refused to do a followup, not suprised! WE have 2 distributors and all the major book stores have put in request for the title. Ha!
TT.

Your welcome for the thanks. Strange you didn't realize Alexandria is divided into 2 camps and the Garden District's camp is fast losing. Everything that is done in Alexandria is based upon race, position in the social order or political power including the Town Talk. Never ever believe the Town Talk is not desirious of being a power player. If it wasn't such a fish-wrapper mongrel of a supposed news paper it might exert some influence.

It must be clearly obvious that the taxpayer's money is no longer being spent in the White neighberhoods and with the Consultant friends of the White's in power but has shifted over to the blacks.

Equality hell they want it all (for past injustices you know) and are getting it. Being equal and helping their bretheren are the furtherest things from the minds of Myron, Smith, Hobbs, Sanders, Bridgette, etc. Their mantra is "Now it is my time."

Only good thing is David Butler will welcome the White folks to Woodsworth with open arms.

My name is Carolyn, it puts chudson for some reason. thankyou again. Im the person from Woodworth CFS took exception to... for my letter in your mail TT. I was very suprised they included it the day of the city council meeting. Im not racist and never have been. We are all humans first. But when some do wrong, and believe they are owed, they pull the race card. Where does this kind of manipulation end.

Carolyn you need to understand that if your of caucasian ethnicity you are (in their eyes) a racist. Though you have never owned slaves, mistreated Afro-Americans, denied them their just due and rights you are racists. How else can the African Americans shuck personal responsibiloity for their actions. They must blame someone so they blame Whitey for everything from ingrown toenails to lunar eclipses.

Cicardo was roundly criticized because of the shootout by the swat team. Matters not that an African American was shooting up cop cars and killed two policeman it was Whiteys fault and, primarly, Cicardo's fault. "Junior he be a good boy, he plays wid the chirren and takes care of his momma" No mattter that the fellow is selling drugs, had a criminal history a mile long and killed cops.

I fault Cicardo for putting decent people in harm's way. I would have taken a fire department truck(s) and, with water pressure, blown the house to pieces and when the piece of crap came out of hiding offered him a chance to give up.

One decent person's life was not worth the effort much less two lives. However, it is all Cicardo's fault, as with all other incidents, that these incidents happen. As I told Mr. Cicardo they done you a favor. You are now out of it, g enjoy your retirement and forget the bull shit called Alexandria politics.

Nagin just has to move to Alexandrai to find the Chocalit city he is looking for. When the City no longer has a tax base and when all the available moneys have been spent then maybe things will be different.

A mall with quality merchandise and a decent supermarket in the Woodsworth, Hineston, Forest Hill, Glenmora area would dry up Alexandria. Then the Wiggers and Wannabes can have the Alexandria mall.

If you do not believe the postings relative to the Afro-American direction of the City of Alexandria previously referred to just look at one simple thing - The Mardi-Gras parade.

No matter any Krewe of any Race, Color or Creed could participate and both parades were being held in the most racially neutral(read less illegal activity) part of the City available we have to change. We need to force the parades into the quarters so the Constituents don't have to go as far for all the free goodies and the location will reduce the number of Whitey's participating.

The Afro-American power elite are going to financially break the City trying to force decent people downtown and down MLK and Lee Street. It ain't gonna happen. The Whites have left the inner city (if not the entire City) and are not going back. Such ventures as the Bayou Rapides Walking trail - such a joke. The economic Districts designed to give businesses all these breaks if they relocate in the middle of SamTown/Woodside. Hell Samtown/Woodside is not even a properly planned, intelligently laid out system of streets and servitudes. However, that is Whitey's fault. The silk stocking land barons sold the folks the property and left it up to them to govern and do urbuan planning. The result - pig trails meandering through woods.

Anonymous said...

The dictionary does not attach a color label to the word Racist. Blacks hating Whites, and well they do, constitues racism.

Anonymous said...

The Bayou Rapides and inner city walking path, as well as the levee park and boat landings, were built as pork barrel projects and as a method to lure the unsuspecting into the high crime areas. One just needs to look at the numerous incidents.

With reference to the question as to why Chief Coutee's reign is so peaceful as compared to the constant racial turmoil of Cicardo's the answer is simple. Coutee is the "House Nigger" for the black political leaders of Alexandria. The "Preachers", the majority of the City Council, and the "Cibil Rights Leaders (I is the head of the local chapter of the NAACP eben if I is headen to Angola) and the areas largest bigoted white hater the Right Reverend from Woodsworth were never going to be happy until Cicardo was gone.

He is gone, light skinned is in and now all is quite. Strange?

The comment, that you blame Cicardo, for the deaths of those young wonderful officers...I'm at a loss for words!!! Being a police officers wife for 34 years, I can only say you are not aware of police procedures. Policemen go through so many personality changes from seeing TOO MUCH BAD STUFF DAILY. Tommy grieves daily for the loss of the officers. WE will never be the same..changed. Thank you for listening. I thought writing would help release some frustration. Carolyn

My remarks were misunderstood. I do not blame Tommie for anything. Tommie always acted in a civilized manner. My knowledge of Tommie's family goes back to the corner of North 16th and Rapides. He comes from and is fine folks.

I questioned his method but then I am not politically correct. My method would have been uncivilized I would have drowned the rat trash shooter.

When I said it was Tommie's fault I was referring to the fact that the Black Community blamed Tommie, for everything with the individual black involved, his family or black leaders never assuming personal responsibility.

Sorry if my thoughts were not clear. Tommie is to be complimented on his handling of matters in a civilized manner. My method, when dealing with a rabid dog, is to kill it in any manner possible without exposing others to harm. Not political correct nor the correct method to use when the two races are involved.

My no nonsense approach to solving a problem, learned in the school of survival, is why I never was a Policeman. As an aside, I know a lot more about the Alexandria police Department and history then you think. Do you remember the original station on the corner of Lee and (maybe) 5th or 6th (where the Fire Department is now?)? Do you remember the walking beat down Lee Street from the "Mr. Bota's store pass Mr. Patin's place and Mr. "Rainbow" Abraham's place.

How about "Cigar waiting for us high schoolers to give us a speeding ticket or working security at Jimmie Thompson's skating rink, Mike Fisher who sometimes rode a motorcycle and sometimes the bike rode him, Mr. Sorree, the founding members of the Alexandria Police Wives Auxiallry, Cpt Baker, Phillip Oestricher, Watson, Paul Racine and his elevator rides, etc, etc, etc.

My dear I have forgotten more about Alexandria Policing then you will ever know. I will never criticize a policeman - I have seen them spit upon, cussed, attacked and having to have a brother shot off a cop because the cop was too caring for the black's life to shoot the son-of-a bitch trying to kill him. Fortunately shift change was fixing to occur, a carload of police came by and (Watson I think) felt no compunctions about shooting the piece of crap. I remember when an Italian member of the force, while participating in a check forging and cashing scheme, participated in a shootout at the bank and gave his life to save his brother by drawing the fire of the responding officers. This individual had received many honors as a shooter but only managed to wing a Deputy while getting himself killed in the process - strange but it seemed he did not want to kill but to be killed.

My association with the APD goes back a lot further then Tommie's. I was just smart enough to not be a member of the force.I was supposed to be a cop. No thanks. Got spit on while in uniform serving my country. Wasn't gonna get spit on again in uniform.

Anonymous said...

I always wondered what the hurry was to get him out of the house? Who sent the officers into that house knowing he had already fired on officers? They could have smoked him out!!! Or waited him out!!!

Anonymous said...

Don't think the whole truth will ever be known. Too many outside influences involved. CFS pressuring Ned to get rid of Tommie resulted in the matter being presented as a racial issue. The mother lying like hell about her dear sweet little boy, the drum beaters wanting the natives to go on the war path.

The most knowledgeble person about the situation and the one I would believe is Tommie. Funny how after Tommie's downfall he has been black balled as politically tainted. His attempts at gaining employment or merly having a book signing appearance and rebuffed because he is a political hot potatoe. Us White folks gave him to them and now even the ones he helped through the years shun him. Friendship and loyalty in Alexandria is a fleeting thing.

Tommie's supposed trouble and shortcomings while Chief were publicized by CFS and CFS brought tremendous pressure to bear on Ned to get rid of Cicardo so the light skinned "House Nigger" could move in. Ned's reward - now he is in the barrel. Mr. Hobbs is the monkey on the string being played by CFS and Myron Lawson in an effort to move out all the White folks downtown and turn Alexandria into their tribal territory.

Anonymous,

You JUST wrote the same basic thing on my blog.

I'm not sure when you began reading my blog, but I've been "copying" material from other blogs, websites, newspapers, and magazines for about three months now. It's typically how one operates a blog.

As far as my contribution to Cenla Antics is concerned, I enjoy reading this blog, because I think it attracts a number of impassioned voices, both left and right. To that end, I republish certain comments in order to frame a discussion and/or opinion.

On my blog, you said I was not being "professional," because I typically don't enter into the conversation du jour on Cenla Antics. I'm not sure how I am being unprofessional, but you're entitled to your opinion.

I operate my own blog, and I like to express my opinions there.

I will continue to read and, when it's appropriate, contribute to the ongoing conversation on Cenla Antics.

Either way, anonymous, thanks for reading.

"On my blog, you said I was not being "professional," because I typically don't enter into the conversation du jour on Cenla Antics. I'm not sure how I am being unprofessional, but you're entitled to your opinion." Your comments as to what I said on your site.

I don't know about your bull shit du jour but child don't spin the words. Copy and paste works well. Copy what I said not what your twisted mind thinks I said.

You seem to spend so much time reacting to criticism. Hell of a deal when you constantly have to defend your childish crap.

Anonymous,

I should have known you were just a hater with no real agenda. Calm down, man.

You accused me of "stealing," and I gave you an honest response on the way I operate my blog.

I think your disagreement with me is beyond "stealing" content from Cenla Antics, and I'm not in the mood for another ad hominem argument with an anonymous person who has a vendetta.

What is the real difference between the way I paraphrased your statement and your actual statement?

You're really going out on a limb on this one, but thanks for posting your original comments. If I misrepresented you, I apologize.

For some reason, though, I don't think you care either way.

Dear Scarlett,

I am not sure what is wrong with the blog. I think there may be an HTML problem on an older post, and I can't quite figure out where. But I'm on it.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Uhhhh... calm down. Again, I don't see a big difference between what you wrote on my blog and how I paraphrased your words.

Why am I even wasting my time on you?

You're not really listening. You're just shouting at me. The issue isn't about how I paraphrased your words, because you'll need to perform some rhetorical acrobatics in order to explain what was so uniquely different about your statement and the way I paraphrased your statement.

Local issues were being discussed until Junior decided to bloviate (he he) upon his web site relative to the local opinions being discussed on this web site. Somehow the focal point always turns from the issue at hand to Junior's opinion of the opinion of others and his woe is me paranoid personality.

Believe there was a discussion going on relative to Mr. Cicardo and local politics until Junior expounded upon the racist nature of the posting on his web site.

The point being made was if you differ with posted inform ation respond on the site upon which it was posted. Don't plagarize the postings on web sites of others and start a dissertation upon yours.

Anonymous said...

By the way there is a dumponlamar blog. It is called CenLamar

Anonymous said...

There's a difference between:

"On my blog, you said..."

and

"On my blog, you said, '...'"

The first one is a paraphrase, the second one is a quote. If you go back and look you'll find Lamar used the first. He did use quotation marks around the word "professional" which shows that was a direct quote. Without quotation marks the rest is to be taken as paraphrase.

The dumbing down or 'niggarfication' of today's youth through all information outlets is rampant. Everybody is scared of being called a "Racist". Racism is being practiced, preached, and made mandatory throughout our land today. However, it is racism against whites that is promoted universally throughout today's society. In order to de-niggarfy today's youth, one must cut the TV off, home school, turn off the radio, and choose your friends carefully. Deville, here we come!!

[CentralLaPolitics] DISCIPLINARY BOARD TOTALLY CLEARS GREG AYMOND

As a result of reporting wrong doing doings to law enforecemnt
officals, as well as the information posted on this website, the board
of commissioners hired an attorney in South Louisiana to file numerous
complaints against me with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel. On May
15, 2006, all of those complaints were dismissed. The individual
complaints filed by Thurman Kelly and RIch Dupree remain, but are
mostly on the same grounds.
Rich Dupree, being the genius he claims to be, convinced all of
those Board members that I was their lawyer and not that of the Public
District. However, the law is perfectly clear that my duty was owed to
me client, the public water district, and my duty was to protect their
funds and property. Unlike many of those political hacks, my ethical
code would not allow me to cover up breaking laws in order to give
special treatment to Mayor Roy Hebron.

Feeling a little vindicated are we Aymonds? Don't let it go to your head. We all know that the Disciplinary Board rarely slaps one of their own on the wrist. All you slimly lawyers stick together.

What that hack board in BR did, doesn't change the fact that YOU filed a lawsuit against DUPREE and he pimp slapped you around in court like a red headed stepchild. Of course one of the reasons you might have lost is that you acted as your own attorney.

You know the old saying Aymonds..."Any lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client." With you, that saying holds particular truth...fool!

Crawl back under your rock Aymonds.

Anonymous said...

Bottom line is that Roy had the board run a water line for free until he was caught. In order to make the crime "go away", he paid for the line. Again, I am sure that many a convict would un-do their crime if it would make it go away. Greg Aymond had a duty to pursue the incident since he was attorney for the board - not the members. My observation is that usually a person will resort to personal attack when they are not intelligent enough to make a case based on facts and it is even better if they can do it. anonomously

Anonymous said...

Spanky, you're an idiot, and don't know jack. Here's the real facts. Roy hebron and Ward 10 PJ member Butch Lindsay have been at each other's throats for years, no secret there. Also, ward 10 jury member gets to place a majority of members on the board. Lindsay threatened to remove some of the board members he had just appointed if they did not tell Aymonds to investigate Hebron's construction of his new house and how the water line was laid.

Here's some other news for you Spanky, you pinhead, the board directs work crews to lay water line all the time when the homeowner agrees to pay the board for materials and labor and pays the tap fee to install the meter. May be against the law, but it's the BOARD that has this policy, not Hebron. And, once again, the board is controled by Butch lindsay, not Hebron.

Hebron made his request, supplied the pipe, and waited until he got a statement for hours of work done.

Meanwhile, Aymonds, at the request/threat of being fired, was directed to "get" Hebron, he failed because Aymonds is stupid, and a poor attorney. In the end he was fired anyway when board member Otha Hailey, an ex banker, discovered Aymonds had been gouging the Board in legal fees. Currently, board attorney Greg Jones charges the board about 40% less than Aymonds did. That's what has Aymonds so pissed off, his gravey train is gone. That's also why he sued Dupree, it was Dupree who led the charge to fire Aymonds after Hailey discovered the excess billing. Also, Lindsay wanted him gone and discredited because Aymonds had conspired to "get" Hebron for Lindsay.

By the way Spanky, the Rapides Parish DA, State Police Detectives, State Ethics Board, and Attorney General's Office all found no voilation of ethics or law in Hebrons actions.

When all of this was uncovered by the ethics board, Hebron was allowed to pay the bill, just as he had originally intended to do. By the way, the Board policy has now been changed to comply with the law. For 16 years illegal policy had been in effect and Aymonds did't have the sense to know that it was against the law.

You know Spanky, you need to keep your butt on your side of the river and limit your BS to the corruption at Alexandria City Hall.

Don't try to be an expert about things you don't know jack shit about...idiot!

The Town Talk better get a clue: we, the citizens of Central LA are not buying the paper to get "ads", we are buying it to get the news; and not the same stories published earlier this week in Saturday's Edition. I hope someone will try to publich a new local paper, and put the Town Talk out of business!

Anonymous said...

Too many people have tried o publish an alternative to the Fish Wrapper (opps excuse me - Town Talk.) The local (subscribers and advertisers)will not support a new daily newspaper. Alexandria, obviously, has the news media it desires - a newspaper that publishes the same articles two days in a row and a tv station that employs spokefolks that cannot be comprehended when speaking, spokesfolks that cannot pronounce local names of people and places and spokesfolks that just go "deer caught in the headlight blank" when the tele-prompter stops.

Alexandria only changes when faced with extreme outside competition. Case in point -pricing and amount of advertising by Security when Security had the business sewed up and the pricing and amount of advertising now that a big box is in town.

Alexandria does not desire change. The South Trafic Circle is another great example. Replacement would alter traffic flow to businesses. Worry not about accidents, traffic congestion (i.e., trying to turn off going into Power Point) or any modernization due to increased traffic flow. The citizens desires are ignored when old established Alexandria businesses decide the citizens do not know what they want.

wow did anonymous nail it or what?

several years ago late 80s early 90s or so klax had a kick ass news department. they were covering everything and asking questions. only problem was no one would watch it. so we wondered why and we started asking around and the answer was that everyone thought they were "missing something" if they didnt tune in to channel 5. this kind of thinking is found only in rapides parish.
folks we have to gather and dissiminate the news ourselves. did the town talk or channel 5 change at all when they were bought out by outside owners? no they didnt and they left the same old people in charge the same ones that are a part of the local interlocking power structure. they can do this and get away with it because the town talk and channel 5 have a virtual brainwashed audience. their bottom line is guaranteed - in other words they dont have to do better because people are going to watch kalb or buy the town talk because they feel like they are missing something if they dont.

we all know this is true so the sooner we get past these silly personality conflicts and begin to work together the quicker we can build the alexandria and rapides parish that we want.

Anonymous said...

Change Alexandria and Rapides Parish? Neither have changed since inception and never will. One generation of those knowing better then most is replaced by an equally schooled generation.

One only needs to read Lamar's blog to see that the latest generation of "leaders" has all the answers and anyone that differs with their opinion is cussed, ridiculed and made fun of.

In the midst of one of Lamar's "woe is me" responses he was extolling his ability to survive on a meager $35,000.00 a year. Quickly un a urvey of occupations in Alexandria that, for instance, mold our youths, those employed in the educational system and find average wages of $35,000.00. Teacher's aids, lunch room workers, school bus drivers, etc would feel walthy with that type of income.

As long as the cultured few that have the greatest influence in local politics think $35,000 per year is starvation wages this area will never change.

Business owners, politicians and the like canno identify with the typical citizen of Rapides Parish.

One last example: We reward a person who was a failure as a farmer by being elected as a Representative and this person rises to be Speaker of the House. Other then seek revenge against those that anger him what has Chawlie done for this area (other than what the Nunnaly's told him to do.) Rapides Parish and the communities therein should have benefited from Chawlie's years of service, did they?

Anonymous said...

"Friends, you also know that I am not rich. Although my family has money, you know that I live on less than $35,000 a year, that I live in an apartment, and that I am currently in debt because of college."

Copied and pasted from Lamar's web site.

Entire families in Rapides live on Less than $35,000.00 a year with no health insurance and many not knowing whether to pay the utility bill or buy food/medicine.

As long as moneyed citizens of Rapides Parish think $35,000.00 is starvation wages we will never ever come together.

Chawlie is an inept political hack - a "good old reedneck boy" glad handing all he meets. What has he done for Rapides Parish other then try and satisfy the dictates of the Nunnaly family?

Dully Nunnaly was a behind the scene mover and shaker. How else do you think the sons got elected and got the lucritive contracts with political bodies. Seems as though the sons could not continue the father's legacy.

If Dully was behind you election was assurred. He was Chawlie's mentor and Chawlie was his puppet. Two people in Rapides Parish could contact Chawlie when no others could - Barry Hines and Dully. That is the duo that Chawlie danced/dances to.

I did not extract Lamar Junior's quote to brow beat the impressionable young man. It was meant as an example of the mindset of the moneyed folks in Rapides. Thousands of hard working families trying to make it on minimum wage or less and here a single person of the moneyed social strata thinks $35,000.00 is "barely" making a living.

This is one of the reasons that this area will never see eye to eye and progress.

I made a general observation from information that appears in the press and drew a logical conclusion having faith that our news sources checked their facts before publishing any of the related articles. I think you can imagine why ole "Take their property" McPherson would want to be sheriff. Because it's GOOD TO BE KING, or maybe he just wants the payoff from Slocum for him to drop out of the race, or maybe he wants a little attention. You can bet that money and power are the main reasons. The days when the primary motivation of politicians were community service are quickly fading away.

Mrs. Cicardo Junior's web site is so boring and non-relavent he has to borrow material from other sites in order to have something to respond too.

He is trying to impress his moneyed, social elite friends with his wit and solutions but normally winds up either displaying his childishness or sticking his foot in his mouth.

However he does well considering the hardships he must endure having to survive on his pittance income of less than $35,000.00 a year. In order to worm out of that faux pas he constructed a statistical report in order to obscure his eliteness with statistical data. This is typical of a liberal with all the answers. You notice he also injected race into the response. Another liberal ploy to confuse the issue at hand.

Seeing as how Lamar Junior pays particular attention to this web site often copying posting to his own and ommenting therein I would like to ask the following of him:

In both sites you have espoused the great concern you and your family have for this area and the citizens of the area. With you stating in one of your post that "Even though my family has money..." I would like to know what (if any)philanthropic act or gift your family has provided Central Louisiana.

One only needs to look around to see acts or gifts from area moneyed families (the Martins as an example.) Contributions to the arts, Scholarships, libraries, Habitat for Humantaties, etc.

Please provide us viewers with a listing of those acts or gifts given by the 3 generations of White's that, by your own admission, have money.

Anonymous said...

Other than self publicizing acts at First Methodist NO ONE knows of anything they have done for Cenla. And just so we dont get them confused. They aint no Martins.

Anonymous said...

This is interesting the Grandmother attempts to rule at the
First "Methodist" Church and the grandson attempts to influence the events unfolding at a Central La Baptist Institution through the utilization of knowledge gained at an out of state institution of higher learning.

We mere mortals here in Central Louisiana are indeed fortunate to have available the guidance and leadership of this family.

The Grandmother's "vison"and knowledge far surpasses that of our locally elected officials. During her tenure with the WIB board she carried her dissatisfaction with local decisons made by local officials to friends at the State and Federal level, asking for their intercedance.

One may ask why does this writer attack Junior and the family. One would answer "Bull**** walks, money talks." Lamar Junior constantly amazes us with his knowledge, experience and wisdom. Other than talk and stir the pot show us tangible beneficial results for the Community of White money (of which he is so proud.) The Martins were used as an example for their acts and gifts to the Community are obvious. How about the Boltons. Scholarships, Chapels, etc.

Delores Brewer has been part of the administration for the entire time baby Ned has been at City Hall. She is the only remaining staff that supported Ned. Wonder how she escaped the wrath of council and mayor. Makes me wonder.
We had better get changes or the city will never pay off the dept that is being incurred.

Anonymous said...

The reason Delores is the only remaining member of the administration still around is very simple. Delores has always been honest with everyone she works with and does not not do anything illegal. The former staffers either broke laws, let their egos get the best of them, or were just plain stupid. I have worked with her for close to 10 years and have always found her to be very professional and forthright. As Scarlett stated, Delores is finally in a position where she has a little more authority, and is using that authority very well. Sams is nothing but a divisive blowhard and does not have the skills needed to be the Mayor of Alexandria.

Anonymous said...

In my dealings Brewer has been very professional but very tough. I think that is why Hobbs and the other brothas are working so hard against her. She is going to be the next Mayor. ...and this may be our last chance to have a good Mayor ...so we really do need to support her.

Anonymous said...

Copied and pasted from Junior's site. He doesn't have the gonad's to answer on this site, the site of the posting. Let the "bloggers" put a little pressure on him and he swaps sides. Don't you love it when someone takes a position and stands their ground?

"It's hard not to be repulsed by some members of the local blogging community. To Michele Godard, I hope that you don't let the voices of cynicism and blind pettiness convince you that the entire Cenla blogosphere is without merit. In the short time that I've been running this blog, I have learned that there are some people who just want to make you mad. They pretend like they speak for the good of the community and that they champion the common person, but they're really just insecure, jealous idiots who can barely compose a complete sentence (let alone a rational, substantive argument). Many of them seem like they are still living in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and their perception of "who controls Alexandria" hasn't quite kept up with the times.

It's hard not to get infuriated by them, and I've probably spent way too much time on the subject. But I do know this: They don't matter. They've never mattered. And this has nothing to do with political clout or social status. They don't matter because they have nothing, absolutely nothing, positive to say about anyone or anything. They're more concerned with who your ex-husband was or how much money my grandparents have given to charity than they are about the mayor's race or the state of education or poverty or health care (all issues, by the way, that particularly affect the lives of those that they claim to champion).

So you know what? I'm going to continue reading and contributing, and I hope that others do the same. If you feel like insulting me and my family and who I am and who I know and where I went to school, be my guest. Believe it or not, there are some people in the world who are proud of who they are, where they have come from, and what they have accomplished.

And a final word on LC: I agree with WeSawThat's assessment of the true purpose of LC, and I want to see LC return to former glory with the least possible damage to the institution's reputation and student body. For this reason, I no longer think it is absolutely imperative that LC lose its accreditation immediately. The discussion regarding LC attracted some very interesting responses, and as a result, I now believe there is probably an easier solution.

State to investigate Alexandria Housing Authority
By Billy Gunn
bgunn@thetowntalk.com

town talk snip:
ref: VRJ Consulting LLC - sec'y of state corp database record.
tt story url here.

“I can’t do anything until I find a (Housing Authority) charter,” the legal framework by which the entity was created, which could outline the city’s role in an investigation, said Albin Provosty, a lawyer whose firm does some city legal business.

He said the charter was written decades ago and that he’s having trouble finding a copy.

One of the contracts the city and state auditor will examine is between the Housing Authority and VRJ Consulting LLC. VRJ is owned by Verentha Sanders, wife of City Attorney Kelvin Sanders.

Kelvin Sanders said Friday that VRJ took over the contract that was held by New Orleans-based Alpha Title Consultants to relocate authority residents moving from Wooddale Park last year.

The New Orleans firm, Sanders said, was unable to continue after Hurricane Katrina in August.

Sanders and Wanda Davis, Housing Authority executive director, said VJR’s contract was ended in December.

The Town Talk issued public records requests on Monday and Wednesday to the Housing Authority through Davis. Housing Authority attorney Bridgett Brown said Thursday the authority would not be able to provide any records until Tuesday.

Both requests ask for a range of records, including how much money VRJ was paid and board approval for payments. Davis said Friday she couldn’t remember the amount and that it would be included in the batch of records Tuesday.

My name is Lynton Hester and I unsuccessfully ran against Roosevelt Johnson for the Council - at - Large seat in the last election. The reason I ran was to provide some opposition and to try to stir some interest in the citizens to get involved and vote as the city is in dire need of intelligent leadership. As my entry was on the last day of qualifying giving me six weeks to campaign and I spent about $1,200.00 to get 38% of the vote city wide, I felt it was a good effort with no organization as opposed to the $20,000.00 and the efforts of the democratic machine. Therefore, I am asking anyone that would be interested in my candidacy for mayor to contact me @ lynton56@yahoo.com. Alexandria is where my heart is and since we have the field that we do, I feel I would make as good a mayor as any of the other candidates. It is time to break with the past and put an independent person with no political ties or favors to repay in position to take care of the peoples business. There are enough people in this town that know me that I will let their opinions of me speak. If any one is interested in putting together a campaign, I offer myself as a candidate with the understanding that it takes the efforts of many to be successful. You heard it here first.

Anonymous said...

Lynton PLEASSSSEEEEE NO!. In your previous election you were the "other than Roosevelt" candidate. In this Mayors election you will ONLY hurt a legitimate candidate that can raise money. PLEASE take what you learned last time and help someone else run. Same for your wife!

Anonymous said...

What legitimate candidate?

Anonymous said...

Delores is the good ol'girl , the doctor wants to be a part time mayor, and Roosevelt is going to get his puppet strings tangled. Unless someone viable steps forward, then I am going to go for it. What I learned is that it takes people and time, that is what I am beginning to search for. The good people of Alexandria need someone that will stand their ground for the benefit of the city, not their personal interest. I have personally had enough of the crap that goes on around here and intend to make a difference.

Anonymous said...

Is this the same Lynton Hester that his property is listed in yesterday's sheriff sales?

I read in today's Town Talk that the city attorney's wife is sucking down housing authority money, and Delores sees no problem in bidding for housing authority contracts during her tenure as the city's capital projects director. It's time to throw the whole gang out and try some new blood.

To my chagrin it is the same Lynton Hester with a property going to sheriffs sale. I bought the house on the corner of Florence and Monroe four years ago at auction to save it from being chopped up and moved, both for the house's sake and the neighborhood's sake. That began my education with just how inept our city is with controlling crime. While some would view this as a personal failure, the question may be how long is it going to take for mismanagement at the city level to affect your property value and liveliehood. I am also working with the mortgage company to sell the property as I have it listed with Noles-Frye and am actively seeking buyers. Are you interested or did you just want to take a cheap shot?

Someone from the England Authority needs to run for mayor like Jon Grafton or Wayne Denley (exclude B.B)What they have done out there with the airpark and new airport is truly a clear vision of leadership. I can't say i have truly kept up with the school board situation, but my perception is that things are much better since Sams got on board.

Anonymous said...

Fuller must now be a conservative, since he had his picture in the paper with GHWB. Right??? Great things should happen from him now!

Anonymous said...

John Grafton is a follower of Ned Randolph (oh hell let us tell it like it is: if Ned would have stopped suddenly John would have had to go to the hospital to get his broken nose fixed and Ned's crap cleared from his air passage.)

The England Authority position was his reward for being a loyal follower. How soon we forget the John stole from purchases made by the Authority.

Oh, I forgot he repaid the Authority. Gee a poll of those in prison would reveal all would like to repay in order that a crime turn into a non-crime. John Grafton is a continuation of the same political circles who have been running Alexandria.

However, on the positive side - you think Mr. Hobbs realizes now it ain't nice to atack. Wonder who decided to stir up the Housing Authority problem. Puppet Hobbs payback is hell.

Speaking of Housing Authority wasn't a former head, Carol Lanier, a long time Mayor of Alexandria? Seems like the old timers never disappear. Hollingsworth, Jack Dewitt, etc keep landing on top

I cannot help but agree with the Reader's Write Opinion Letter today. The "people" at the Library are trying to convenience you that another property tax millage is needed for operations.

Why don't they learn to leave withint their budget? We have to do it in our households everyday, let them learn to live within the budget as well.

If nothing else, start charging for the use of the services. They had to "hire a security guard" for DT, because people were partaking of the "free air conditioning". They constantly tear up things, that we the taxpayers are having to fund to replace the torn up items.

Start charging for the services: Videos $1.00 each, Audio Books $1.00 each, and make a department for fine collections. These are just some of the avenues the library could persue.

Wake up voters of Rapides Parish. Don't be fooled by the "cries" of the poor, when the library just needs to learn to live within their means. We do it every day!!

Anonymous said...

Amen to that!!

Government is going to continue to "ramrod" the general public, until we learn to take a stand.

Since we live in a "business driven" society, let private enterprise take over the "reins" for a while.

It sure coulnd't hurt to try! Private business always has to operate efficiently, or the doors close!!

Voters, take a stand!! Don't let your property tax rate be raised just to keep branches of the library open.

There are some branches who don't have 10-12 visitors in a 11 hour shift.

Is that wise $ management on Steve Rogge's part?

Shut those branches down!! Keep open the most busiest ones, and close those less frequented by the general public.

Learn something from your public's cries!!

we couldnt agree more, everytime you turn around rogge is wanting another tax. naturally the jackasses on the rapides parish police jury havent ever turned down a vote for a tax either. like the previous commentor said its time to shut down branches etc.

Roggee is reason enough NOT to vote another tax. He asks for a new tax EVERY chance he can yet he shows very little justification for it. The long-time clerk of Pineville city court is on administrative leave.

Les Prestridge was placed on leave about five weeks ago. Judge Phillip Terrell told NewsChannel Five that staff members made allegations of sexual misconduct which, Terrell says, will be settled within a week or two.

The Judge also said he had others are almost finished with an investigation and it appears that some action will be taken, but he cannot comment further at this time.

Judge Terrell says he has received legal advice about the situation.

more on alexandria housing authority scandal:

Firm owned by Alexandria official's wife got contract
By Billy Gunn
bgunn@thetowntalk.com
(318) 487-6378

The company owned by the wife of City Attorney Kelvin Sanders was paid $18,418 a month after taking over a relocation contract for the Alexandria Housing Authority in 2005, records released Tuesday show.

Copies of checks written to VRJ Consulting LLC, owned by Verentha Sanders and staffed by her and another person, show the company was paid $82,062 from September 2005 to January 2006.

The records were among many requested of the Housing Authority by The Town Talk last week and delivered Tuesday.
Henry "Hank" Lazarone, Housing Authority board chairman, said no one on the five-member board knew who owned VRJ when members voted unanimously in August 2005 to replace the New Orleans firm that was awarded the original contract in January 2005.

"The board wasn't aware of who that was," Lazarone said, adding that "it could have" made a difference in the board's vote.

VRJ took over the contract from Alpha Title Consultants of New Orleans. Verentha Sanders had worked for Alpha Title before taking over the contract.

Reached for comment Tuesday, Verentha Sanders directed all inquiries to her husband.

Just what a relocation specialist does is unclear, Lazarone said.

"I was wondering why there was so much money involved," he said. "It didn't seem like there was a whole lot they were doing."

Lazarone said he asked Housing Authority Executive Director Wanda Davis for a breakdown on what the firm was doing but never received one.

Lazarone and George Williams, former assistant housing board chairman, did address Davis' performance in a November "letter of counseling." In the document, both addressed a host of problems they said the Housing Authority management had, including hiring consulting firms. The letter, signed by Davis, Lazarone and Williams, threatened Davis' termination if the problems weren't addressed.

Williams resigned his seat on the Housing Authority board on May 11. His resignation letter to Mayor Ned Randolph, who appoints four of the five board members, does not give a reason for his departure.

Lazarone also has resigned, effective today. Lazarone said he is leaving the board he has served on for decades because he's moving away from Alexandria.

Last week, Randolph asked the state legislative auditor to look into the Housing Authority after the mayor talked to Lazarone and Williams about the entity's finances and its contracts with consultants.

In the batch of records produced Tuesday by the Housing Authority was a copy of the resolution where the Alpha Title contract was terminated and authorization was given to Davis to seek another firm. The document does not list VRJ as the consulting firm getting the contract.

Sanders said Friday that one of the reasons his wife received the relocation contract was that Alpha Title, based in New Orleans, was greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina.

But according to one of the documents supplied by the Housing Authority, the board passed a resolution terminating the Alpha Title contract on Aug. 18. Katrina made landfall south of New Orleans on Aug. 29.

"I guess I got the sequence wrong," Sanders said Tuesday, explaining that the Housing Authority was having problems with Alpha Title before Katrina.

Calls Friday and Tuesday seeking comment from Alpha Title owner Wayne Woods were not returned.

Alpha Title won the original relocation contract in January 2005. One of the unsuccessful bidders was Brewer McGee Acquisition Group LLC, owned by Delores Brewer, Alexandria's current chief of staff.

Brewer, who also is a candidate for mayor, turned in a bid for $1,231,200 over three years, which works out to $34,200 a month, almost double VRJ's rate, according to the Housing Authority records.

The rest of these folks in the news are another story. We are having difficulty discerning your fictional television characterizations from the beings that live in your midst. We are leaving the galaxy lest the confusion spread to our operational systems. We will return when it is safe, far into the future.

Why do I think it is illegal and unethical for family members to do business with the governmental agency the governmentally employeed member is an employee of?

If it is so is this is the Mrs. Brewer being championed for Mayor?
Seems like the Alexandria Housing Authority is the "goody basket" for all sorts of relatives. Problem being is it Federal money being embezelled?
