In reading today's issue of the Town Talk, I was rather taken a back to find that this blog has attracted so much attention. Although I appreciate Mr. White's request of posting authors using their real names, he seems to not understand that it defeats the purpose of the blog. Would Mr. White stand and deliver if he had a problem with his neighbor? (use a scenario that fits here folks). I think not ... it would cause undue harm to relationship that needs to work. Hence the anonymity postings on this blog. Mr. White I applaud your interest and your intent; however, I do not think that it will work in all cases.
Now Mr. White to stir the pot a little. IF the Town Talk and KALB actually did a little investigative reporting this blog would be a moot point now would it not? In they're selective reporting, they have sewn the seed that created Cenla Antics. So Mr. White, in finding the answers to the many questions being asked by the public, would not the "real" media use unidentified sources?
In closing, I am aware that I need to spend some time on archiving old postings. I hope to have this done within the next week or two. I would also like to address a statement made on this blog a few postings back. I have never deleted any postings on this blog. In my opinion to do so would again, take away from the purpose that created this blog.

The Alexandria Housing Authority is at the end of its fiscal year which means the administration has until the end of December to get the books audited. Under normal circumstances this deadline would not attract much attention, but recently there were reports that the state auditor, acting on a complaint from the Mayors office, would come through and do an audit.
But in a telephone interview Friday the Executive Director Wanda Davis tells us she has yet to see any state auditors in her offices. If there is an audit the state could use a critical report done last year which found some issues with credit card receipts missing and tenants not being properly accounted for.
Again the Housing Authority begins its fiscal year tomorrow and there is a 6 month deadline to have an in house report done of the books. We’ll keep you up to date on the issue.

its supposed to cut down on comment spam. spammers post advertisements disguised as comments - they use automated programs called bots to do this. we hate having had to switch on comment moderation but at one time we were receiving so many comment spams that we couldnt keep track of them all to delete them fast enough.

Just got back from the Pineville Mayor and Council swearing in ceremony. Anybody who is anybody in Rapides Parish was there.

Lets be realistic. Fields, Dupree, and Council Members probably do have some motives other than simply serving the community. After all they are human just like the rest of us. But, unlike Alexandria, and most other cities I have observed, Pineville seems to have a group of people now that are trying to make good decisions that benefit the entire city instead of thier individual districts. Most of the Councilmen in Alexandria don't even care about their districts and the constituents that live there. It's all about having as much control as possible so that they and their associates can make money off the City.

The appointed city council member has been sharing the negative comments about Sams to anyone who will listen. Well, it is official now. I threw away my Town Talk renewal form today. The ketchup story did it for me. That rag of a paper is not fit to line a bird cage. It will be a tough transition, as I truly enjoy reading the newspaper in the morning. At least The Advocate is available online. Sure will miss the NASCAR section, TT.

No, that's his son, Loren Lampert, in the DA's office. Marc Lampert is an attorney in private practice.
Mark Lampert is the guy that all the neighborhood groups in District 4 asked the council to appoint when Ranson resigned but they were rude as could be to the neighborhood groups when they came to talk to the council and apparently had decided to appoint Harry Silver all along. Lampert has been actively running for the spot since then. Lampert used to be an assistant DA many years ago and his son, Loren, is a prosecutor in there now. From what I see and what I hear, Lampert's got a lot of support in his district. Nobody knows if Harry Silver is going to run for the District 4 seat (which he swore that he would not do if appointed) or for Mayor. Lampert has always been an active guy in the garden district associations and programs.
Sounds like he is not a "yes man" like good old Harry. Any other names floating around for that seat yet?
We don't live in the garden district but we live near Cabrini Church and belong to a pretty big neigborhood association that is also in Dist. 4 and Lampert has been coming to our meetings and campaigning pretty hard since Rick Ranson quit and it seems like everybody pretty much has always just assumed that Lampert would be it. His big deal is "neighborhood" - he loves 'em and thinks thats where its at. No Lampert and Slatkin are not running against each other. Dr. Slatkin is running against Myron Lawson for the At-Large council seat and Lampert is running against Harry Silver for the district 4 council seat. You can vote for both (or neither) of them if you want.

Joe Fuller will run for Mayor and Chawlie Dimwitt will run for City Marshall. Chawlie will lose. King maker Myron Lawson will decide ho will be Mayor. CFS and Joe have nothing for each other.
Myron has punlically stated he would rather be the kin gmaker then the king.
Joe wants the job for the money. He will roll his Police Jury retirement over into the the Mayor's job. He feels it is much better to retire and draw 60% of the Mayor's salary then 60% of a police juryman's salary. He has 16 years with the Jury so 4 years as the Mayor wilol vest his retirement.
Only two problems with your scenario. (1) Fuller has to run and win (2) Lawson has to win his at large seat against Slatkin. Neither of these are gauranteed.
Heres something to chew on. Slatkin beats Lawson in at-large race. So the Lawson problem is solved. But wait a minute....Roosevelt wins as Mayor leaving his at-large seat vacant. Myron runs in a special election and wins. It's like trying to keep up with roaches when you turn the light on.
It is highly unlikely that Dewitt could beat Byrd for City Marshal. Even the white folk like Mr. Byrd.

I don't know about the personal stuff but I am a lawyer, have known Lampert and worked with him and against him for 35 years, talk to lots of lawyers and judges every day and can tell you that the lawyers and judges like, support, and respect him. I see his signs in front of prosecutor's houses and offices, defense attorneys, white and black lawyers - he's got a sign at Bob Levy's house, a republican prosecutor and Mike Small's house, a democrat defense lawyer. I don't know about wives and goldfish but I think the legal community supports him.

Maybe our question should be: "What is it about Lampert that all the district 4 neighborhood associations knew that made them want the council to appoint him THAT THE COUNCIL KNEW and made THEM NOT want him"? Marc Lampert is not on the Council yet...so how could he have done thses things? Chuck Fowler is head of the Utilty Committee. However, he did not mess up the gas contracts. That was done because some of his fellow committee members, primarily Everett Hobbs, would not vote to approve the purchase of natural gas until the price had skyrocketed after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

I think if you dig deeper into the story,you will discover that Lampert did NOT have the backing of the neighborhood groups. He WAS endorsed by the board of directors of the Garden District group. Guess who cast the tie-breaking vote? Marc Lampert! It caused a major split and there are still hard feelings in the group.
Please look closely at all the candidates before voting.

I was an infant when Marc Lampert was in highschool so I can't help you with those stories but I was (and am) a member of the board of directors of the Garden District Neighborhood Foundation and was present at and participated in the board meeting you discuss and frankly, you are a lier. While Marc was a member of the board, he and the other people under consideration were ordered to leave the room during the discussion and voting and he not only did not cast a deciding vote, he cast no vote at all and was not even present when the vote was taken. The vote was unanimous and the letter that we wrote to the city council and the presentation we made to the council declared that Lampert was the unanimous choice of our board. The other groups representative came to us and declared that they had also unanimously voted to back Lampert (don't know if it was the membership or the board) and this was the information relayed in person and in writing to the city council.
Our understanding was that Rick Ranson made arrangements with the remaining councilmen that upon his resignation, they would appoint someone chosen by the district 4 neighborhood associations. It is obvious that oranization's choice was never even considered. I accompanied the organization representatives to that council meeting as did many other members of the different associations and we were treated rudely. Frankly, we were a little embarrassed. So that's the truth about that.
The reasoning behind the council's action was never satisfactorily explained but the two versions I got is that Lampert wouldn't agree not to seek an additional term and another was that a councilman said that "those little old ladies think they get to pick Rick's replacement but they are wrong, we do."
Well in this fall, they don't we do. Let the chips fall where they may. But if I were on the council, I would not expect the voters of district 4 to soon forget their treatment. We were deeply insulted.
Frankly, I wish we had Rick Ranson back. He would win by a landslide.

I was on the Garden District board at the time in question (I no longer am) and the above account by the other board member is precisely how I remember it. There was an unfortunate personal issue between Lampert and one of the more vocal and active members of the board but I understand that even that has been laid to rest by Lampert undertaking a substantial diet of crow.
Lampert was/is mainly about neighborhoods and so am I so I'm behind him all the way. You vote the way you think best. The important thing is, whatever our collective decision, it is up to us, not the council. We don't appreciate being ignored just because white.

The issue of auditing the business between CLECO and the City of Alexandria caused some sparks to fly at the city council legal committee meeting today.
Some council members are angry that they were not told about a request to postpone the CLECO audit.
That audit is supposed to show whether CLECO owes the city money.
The fight seems to be about who gets to know what is happening with the CLECO lawsuit and when. A local attorney Bridgette Brown who is on the team for the city against CLECO is publicity criticizing the mayors handling of the lawsuit.
Here is the exchange that will have many in the community talking. It is between Brigette Brown mayoral candidate and chief of staff Delores brewer.
The next step according to city council members is to hold a meeting with two Baton Rouge law firms, Davidson Law Firm, LLC and Sharp Dooley, LLC.
The attorney’s are being called to a meeting with the city council to explain the next step in the CLECO lawsuit.
Routinely, this kind of meeting are held behind closed doors because legal strategy is discussed but council member Myron Lawson wants this meeting held in open session.
Myron, the puppeteer is once again pulling the strings. I don't know Dr. Slatkin, but I'm voting for him even if he is a convicted killer!

After watching the video of Myron's tenant (Bridgette Brown) and Delores Brewer, I am reconsidering voting for Brewer. I liked the way she stood up to Bridgette. I also noticed she was all alone and the Mayor was nowhere to be found.

I imagine that is is clear to anyone that has seen your postings over the last couple days that your dislike for Lampert approaches or equals an unhealthy hatred. I don't presume to fault you for this or want to talk you out of it. My guess is that you ended up on the wrong end of some litigation, probably divorce or custody since that is what Lampert does a bunch of and will be bitter until your last breath. I don't envy you but maybe I can explain a few things. In the first place, people are screwing with you and not taking you seriously because most of us know Lampert to some degree. We think we know pretty much how he is and think that that matters more than how you say he was. You say that there are some bad things written about him in some of his previous divorces (and there were a bunch) but that was the way that splits were handled in the old days. You had to alledge fault and cause to get into court. I'm pretty sure that none of these terrible things were ever proven or found to be fact by the court because if someone is a spouse abuser or child abuser or drug abuser, the Supreme Court takes your license and keeps it until they are satisfied that there is no longer a reason to govern that lawyer's conduct. I didn't investigate but I bet that there has never been a disciplinary action against Lampert in all his years and obviously he has never been prosecuted or convicted or any thing because he still has a law license. The grapevine at the courthouse is pretty active so I would also bet that nobody has ever even filed a criminal complaint against him. That doesn't mean he is spotless by any means but it shows that he is not now nor has he ever been the oger that you portray.
He is married to a woman named Jan and she is one of the administrators in the parish judge's office. They have been married for at least a dozen years. I can't imagine her being victimized and the judges and courthouse staff not being aware of it. Ask them. I am, of course the lawyer that blogged earlier. I would not characterize Lampert as a friend but I do know him and mostly I know the courthouse people where we practice.
Lampert has been active in the garden district association for years and the membership probably knows that. Moreover, when we see stuff like this Cleco episode that happened today, I wish we had a lawyer on the council. Lampert has a well deserved reputation for telling it like it is and sticking to it. That may have been the problem that you faced in your litigation.
Finally, you are obviously trying to hurt Lampert and his family. It should be obvious that most of us know something about Lampert and we aren't interested in your cheap anonymous shots. It just makes you seem petty and chickenshit. In all of your allegations and slurs you have yet to suggest that he would be anything but an excellent councilman.But don't vote for him, campaign openly against him, qualify and beat him for the position. That's the right way.

Marc, who I have known off since the late 50's, is no better nor no worse than any of us. He is not a Mike Small or Clarence Darrow nor is he an Inspector Clouso (sic). I personally did not like Marc's personality -back then - for I felt he was tryhing to make inroads into the social ranks of the children of the silk stocking gang - Lumber barons, etc.

The Dist 4 council choices seem to be Marc Lampert, Harry Silver or Richard Nunnally. You have to choose the best one out of those who are willing to put themself up for election. According to this statement issued by Mayor Randolph, he, Delores Brewer, and Kelvin Sanders and Council Members all lied at the Legal Committee Meeting on Wednesday. I say throw the whole bunch out.
At the end of the statement, Randolph also said, “At last night’s meeting, an impression may have been given that the City Council was not aware that this pleading had been filed until after the fact. This is not accurate as confirmed in a post council conversation with Mr. Sanders.”

the real issue i would like you to address is the wednesday city council meeting. i now add to my list of problems with delores the fact that it seems she may be very loose with facts. lawya fowya brown called her a liar to her face. we all watched the kalb video. i wasn't sure from that video exactly why brown called her a liar. i can say that after reading ned's retraction in the town talk, maybe all of us might wonder if perhaps she is loose with facts. i will now address the gist of her comments on the kalb video and welcome your response. she said she and ned "happened" to be in baton rouge. she said ned called the baton rouge counsel for the city and said he hoped at some point to meet with them to discuss the litigation. she said they did not have a scheduled meeting, but one of the attorneys said, well you are in town already, come on over. ned today contradicted that statement and said they (delores and ned) had a scheduled appointment with the attorney, despite delores' assertions on the video. in the context of the issues at the city council meeting, minimally one might wonder if brown was correct in calling delores a liar. one might also wonder if brown was calling her a liar for another reason, and delores lied again on another issue. i respectfully ask that you address this issue. and before you do, i will give you my take on what happened. i know a little bit about the legal profession. i know the baton rouge attorneys representing the city are not light weights. i suspect that when they became aware that when kelvin was saying he knew nothing about the motion to object to the auditor appointed by judge drell AND when delores said it was just happenstance that they met with the attorney in baton rouge, that the baton rouge lawyers went ballistic and threatened ned and kelvin with revealing the truth. that explains ned's "clarification".
again, i personally think the facts cast some doubts on the veracity of delores, and would truly welcome your comments.

we dont feel that judge johnson has made "stupid ass rulings" in the hype debacle. we think he had to rule based on what was presented to him and on the law. if the blame is on anyone its on the incompetents in the district attorneys office. in any event lets see what the third circuit says as far as the indictment quashing. we predict the 3rd circuit will affirm judge johnson's ruling.

lol you can try and spin it to favor the district attorney however you want to. however, that still wont change the fact that the district attorney blew this case. like we said lets wait a few months and see what the 3rd circuit says.
i just slaughtered a goat and read the entrails. the third circuit will reverse judge johnson's quashing the indictment, and will uphold his ruling on setting bail. assuming i read the entrails correctly.
you might very well be right.
