Foti versus Alexander

Foti = Landrieu = New Orleans old school machine
Alexander = local boy, energetic NOT a member of the machine.

I know both of these gentleman. My family ties with Foti go back aways, my grandfather taught Charlie's mother how to drive. They lived across the street from one another.

I met Royal while he was Clyde Holloway's Chief of Staff. I've only known Royal for around 5 or 6 years now and would gladly cast my vote in his direction.

You can bet by the way that AG Foti will allow Mr. Breaux to run. You have no idea how entrenched the "New Orleans" crowd is ... or perhaps I should say south Louisiana.

Wake up people, before long we won't have a population much less a coast line.

You're kidding right? Foti will eat Royal's lunch.

An incumbant Attorney General becomes entrenched in office with the support of local District Attornies. The AG also secures his position by awarding contracts to local lawyers, all over the state, and by hiring lawyers with politically connected ties (for example Ned Randolph). My personal peave is political corruption, and I have seen no difference from the so-called "law and order" Foti, than any past Attorney General. In my personal dealings with several of his staff, I am also not imrpressed with his office being staffed by some dead heads, who do not know their jobs nor care to do it. If a dog runs against Foti, I plan to vote for the dog.

Anonymous said...

Well, well, well....If anybody was an expert in dead heads who don't know their jobs, it would be you Greg.

Any more news on the political corruption at Water Works #3?

LMAO..at you Greg!

Anonymous said...

I predict that a better candidate than either of these will emerge.

Anonymous said...

So Greg - did you file your ethics complaint on Myron's Raiders or were you just shootin' blanks?

Anonymous said...

Of course we should support Alexander because he is a republican. Being a sexual predator should have no consequences in government.

How could anybody possibly be more qualified to evaluate a candidate than Quint if Quint's ancestor taught the candidate's ancestor to drive? Quint, once again I applaud your objectivity.

I do not recall Royal being charged or convicted. Apparently you feel accusations are sufficient for crucifixion. How apropo in the Easter season.

Dear 4t 4 m3 ...

I merely stated that I have known Foti's family for many years. There are many things that I did not post, having known them for many years. I did not recommend YOU voting for anyone ... I stated that I would support Royal. You see it is easier to make statements and decisions on people when you know them intimately. I can't wait for you to explain the predator remark ...

Anonymous said...

I am just a frustrated citizen of CENLA! WHY YOU ASK? Well lets start with the local media, meaning newspaper, television, radio not to mention a few other local publications that did not participate. Everyone always states the fact that we do not have anything going on locally, well we did and there was minimal coverage( heavy emphasis on minimal) for the Que'n on the Red. why wasn't there live remotes from the local radio stations or even a live remote from our local television stations? We do have Three local (meaning in Alexandria) television stations don't we? Just wanted to put this out to see if i was the only person that felt this way. Signed Drew man.

Dear Antics:
I'm sorry. I thought that had heard about the allegations within Rodney Alexander's own staff of sexual predation by Royal which were the basis for his dismissal or resignation. I forget how you distrust the liberal media.

And Spanky, you are right. Neither Royal, nor O.J., nor Michael Jackson, nor Tom Delay have been convicted of anything. Please feel free to endorse them also.

Cenla Antics said...

Dear 4t 4 m3 ...

Yes I am aware of the allegations of Royal's misconduct. In fact Royal spoke to me about it before it hit the press. You don't know the stories of what happened and why Royal resigned. It is best for you to back down, you're headed down the wrong stream. The one you are currently travelling ends in a waterfall. If I am allowed to divulge any of the stories I will.

In closing a suggestion to all ... read the book, not the Cliff notes to get the whole story ....

ANSWER: Although your question was apparently intended as an insult, yes I have mailed off the ethics complaint. Be forewarned, however, by state law, any additional information will probably have to be released by the State Ethics Board, from this point on.

Anonymous said...

Dear Antics:
The available information does not bode well for your candidate. Of course there is more to the story and I and the rest of the electorate would welcome any enlightenment you or he could provide. If he truly intends to enter the political arena, surely he is aware that this issue will not go away, and meaning no disrespect, I doubt that the general voting public will take your word that there is no substance to this headline story that led to his discharge from the highest ranks of the congressman's office. Where there's smoke . . . .

I believe the point here is you came out as if Royal had been charged with this. To my knowledge, he hasn't been charged with anything. Of course, something tells me it's your job to come out with both guns blasting with this "sexual predator" accusation. I'm not surprised at all that you would be coordinating this attack. Fortunately, I think he's ready for you. Are you ready for him?

I am for Foti, and I think he has done a great job. However, I don't think anyone should be calling Royal scandalous names. This sort of filth is why some good folks don't run for office anymore. C'mon guys, keep it clean. Foti will win on his record without the need to resort to personal attacks on his opposition.

To 4t4 m3, you posted this:

"Of course we should support Alexander because he is a republican. Being a sexual predator should have no consequences in government."

I'll tell you this right to your face if you like...you sir are a liar.

To call someone, anyone, a "sexual predator" is VERY strong language and unless you have STRONG evidence, which in this case does not exist, you are engaging in spreading not rumors, but boldface lies.

Elizabeth Scott, the supposed "victim" in this case has withdrawn her allegations in the face of absolute proof that Royal Alexander NEVER engaged in any sort if inappropriate behavior.

There are office records, such as time sheets and appointment books, that show that Scott was in way over her head as scheduler for Rep Alexander. Her job performance was sub-par, period. When Rep Alexander gave instructions to either fire or demote her, it was up to Royal Alexander to carry out the task.

Scott, who is only 26 and VERY inexperienced decided to play the “sexual harassment” card and was promptly shot from the saddle.

So, it’s apparent that you, sir, either don’t know a damn thing about which you speak, or you’re just a bold faced liar. Either way, you’re not to be listened to. You’re un-important.

If he was pure as the driven snow and totally exhonerated, one naturally wonders why he bailed out of the office in haste and disgrace. I'm sure that there is a rational explanation which he will have ample opportunity to recite. Perhaps he had something to do with the excellent handling of the page sex scandal through Rodney's office. All this will be aired in the political grider.

That kind of valuable access and insight is truly a rare opportunity.

Easter Sunday Town Talk asks the wrong question on this day to commemorate resurection:

"Cyntreniks Inc., a Baton Rouge-based company that is trying to purchase the historic hotel from its owner Bob Dean, has been working diligently for months to put together the funds. They are about $6 million short and have asked the city to consider some level of investment in the old hotel."

The question should not be "Do you believe in the Bentley?" but "Do you believe in a company that has lied to us repeatedly since their involvement started, been part of a ruse by Silver and Lawson to mislead the public for their personal political advantage, (Silver has a very direct and obvious conflict with his white elephant building being accross the street) and a company that has, so far, failed to keep EVERY promise and prediction they have publically made." I love the Bentley and hope it can be preserved, but I am not willing to have the city fund a bad idea with an unreliable company.

Hrm...it looks like Myron and Harry are not fullfilling some campaign promises. Think about it, everytime Mayor Roy has asked the council to get back with him on Fast Track they fail to comply. Why are they delaying this process?

In fact, all seven have failed in this venture. Isn't Fast Track one of the major priorities set forth by the council? But then again, what should we be expecting from a council filled greedy, lazy personalities who only want power and NOT progress.

Think about citizens of Alexandria. We could be working on other projects instead of avoiding the issues that are vital. But, Myron and Everett are more inclined to spend money on Dana Pitcher, a two-bit boxing promoter and potential crook (he's trying to fleece the city out of tons of money). Everett believes that the failed boxing events put on are forms of economic development. But are they helping to educate the public on utilities? Are they helping out the citizens by explaining how to better fight against crime in neighborhoods? Or building area projects that benefit the tax-payers? NO!

No Fast Track. No help in educating the public. No active work in building a better community. Nope, these guys want to line their pockets and the pockets of their friends from out of town. IS this the type of council you want? One that could give two shits less about you? One filled with Democrats suckling off the government teet feeding their friends in the process?

Isn't the number one responsibility and priority of the council to provide basic services to the city? Utilities? Trash service? It's not cheap boxing events put on by a scam artist who probably pays for his own events in other cities.

Anonymous said...

To Hell with economic development. Who gives a shit about economic development when our electricity bill are so high we cant afford to burn a light bulb, or crime is so uncontrolled that a thief would steal our light bulb? And don't feed me that lame old crap about more businesses that locate here the better it will make my life. I have not noticed an improvement in crime, lower utility bills, or much of anything else with the location of Plastipak, Union Tank Car or anything else. Stop blowing smoke up my ass, and show me the benefits. My tax money is given to the rich, in the name of economic development, and I don't see one dam benefit to me.

Anonymous said...

You can't really blame anyone in the city for the surge in natural gas costs, but you can blame them for being an inept bureaucracy that hardly knows how to respond to this crisis. The real blame for our high utility bills should be given to the federal government because honestly people, this crisis isn't just isolated to Alexandria. This is a crisis occurring all over the nation.

Anonymous said...

According to the Town Talk, "It is the electricity bought by Cleco on the open market, which is passed directly on to city ratepayers, that's the highest price. In the past 12 months, the price of the open-market electricity has been 37 percent higher than that of LEPA power.
When fuel costs alone are calculated, Alexandria residents pay 39 percent more per kilowatt hour of electricity, which is bought wholesale from a variety of sources including Cleco."

So how is it the federal government's fault that we in Alexandria get shafted 1/3 more than Pineville just across the River?
I am more conerned with this utlity crisis than using my taxes to help a dam boxing promotoer or a bunch of liars buy the Bentley.

Anonymous said...

Lest not we confuse things with the facts...........

The 39% disparity in fuel cost has been quoted ad nauseum. Is that a one time occurence or a historical average. Do you know? Do you care?

Go back and look at your bills for all of 2006; you'll see its a one time occurence not a historical average, but then again facts don't sell nearly as well as supposition and assuption blended with carefully crafted omissions.

Call down, get the facts, then decide; you might even live longer.

Anonymous said...

At these prices, who can afford to live longer?

Anonymous said...

get the facts

The fact is many many people cannot afford their utility bills. One time or historical, it can still get your eletricity cut off. We can sit in the dark and ponder wther its a historical average or not.

Just a few months ago you all had a change to install a council that was honest and intelligent, instead you re-hired a bunch of self-serving crooks who can't spell their own name.

I'm tired if hearing you whine about how bad it is in Alexandria, you got what you voted for.

Anon 04-09 7:19pm:
Please clarify a few things for me...
You talk about Silver and Lawson not fufilling campaign promises, but what campaign promises has Roy lived up to? Transparency? No sweetheart deals? Please. The promises he made, those words he spoke so eloquently-so sincerely seem to be, at this point, empty words twisted into shapes of promises given to people in exchange for their votes. You claim that Silver and Lawson are trying to delay the fast track operation...there are other council members. Oh, I know! They are in on it too! I don't know if you are paranoid, uninformed or simply trying to perpetuate the myth that the council is made up of selfish self serving men. Hobbes wasn't the only one who voted for the Pitcher deal. Furthermore, it is my understanding that ordinances are passed down from the mayors office. Roy did postpone the vote, but it was put back on. It appears to me that Roy looked into it, was satisfied and sent it back to the council.

Economic development, utilities, and fast track are all important issues that need to be addressed. However, the MOST important issue that needs to be addressed (and most importantly remembered)is the fact that our system has a system of checks and balances. Checks and balances are there to avoid situations like the one you are describing with the council. The mayor, after all, does have veto power. Surely he would use it if he felt strongly enough about something-even if the council overrode his veto, at least he could send a message to the public that he meant it when he promised "No sweetheart deals". If he really did mean it.

Maybe what everyone needs to keep in mind-esp. the mayor and the council is that they were all elected by the people, FOR the people. The mayor was not elected to try to determine if the council is worthy of making decisions or not-the people decided that when they elected each of them.

I don't see how the boxing event could possibly keep the city from educating the public on fighting crime, or on how to read the utility bills. All the mayor has to do is send down an ordinance, even if the council dosen't pass it at least he would have made the
effort. Or perhaps the mayor too busy letting people fill his head with paranoid tales of what the council is doing to undermine him?

Enough with the propaganda, rumors and out right lies. Everybody needs to do the job that they are supposed to do. Except the people who are getting paid to produce propaganda, rumors and lies. They just need to remember what La Rochefoucauld said.
"Tricks and treachery are mearly proof of lack of skill.")

Hey, and as I look around, a lot of my neighbors'pools have been stolen as well! Uh-oh! Looks like this now is going to be a HUGE issue in the white community now, too. Screw utilities, screw downtown revitalization!! Tear down the Bentley and put in a pool. Everybody could be happy, and 6 million dollars is gonna put in a helluva diving board.

Anonymous said...

What I found most interesting about BB is she was practically begging Myron and Roosevelt to introduce an ordinance regarding the re-opening of the pool and they danced all around her - appearing to toss the ball back to the adminstration and not give into her. Makes you wonder ...

Anonymous said...

Does the Bentley have a pool ?

Anonymous said...

Maybe we should all attend City Council meetings and ask for other things, and maybe we could raise the utility bills even further to pay for it. I think we need waterslides, go-carts, ponies, a shooting range, magicians and clowns. Plus free adult supervision, summer in alexandria will be great.

Forget Chetam park, I want a pool and new Basketball goals in my yard.

Anonymous said...

yeah the bentley has a pool... it's kind of hidden on the corner of main street and jackson.

Anonymous said...

What happened to the pool at Chetam Park? Why the big uproar? Can it be opened in time for summer??

And why does Bridgett Brown care?

Anonymous said...

Bridgett's thinking about running against Roosevelt Johnson for the at-large seat next year. Get used to it. We'll probably be hearing a lot more from her.

Anonymous said...

Guess she could run now, since she will not get any more legal work from the city.

Anonymous said...

i think we're all missing the issue here. while bridgette is banging around town asking for this pool, we're caught in the racial aspect of this mess. this isn't necessarily about race; rather, it is about unnecessary waste of government money that will most likely end up in the hands of others. let's look at the facts shall we.

bridgette proposed this pool recently to friends of mine and her pitch was akin to 1 million dollars in allocation for building and creation of 10 jobs. outside of this, there isn't much else in terms of basics for what will happen in the future (cost of admission, classes offered, etc.). Important questions like: who will own the complex, how it will benefit a blighted community, and simple cost per year for upkeep are never mentioned. this is more a political ploy to keep her name in the spotlight than anything to do with basic community enhancement. the creation of 10 jobs has never fully been specified by ms. brown. who will take these positions and what will they be for? i can see 2 lifeguards, 1 admin, and 1 manager for the complex. but 10 jobs is unneccesary in the long run.

for all those who have commented on the racial angle: stop. you keep putting the larger term--black-- in place of the smaller, more specific aspect--community. it was the community who ran down the pool, much like the community ran down the neighborhood parks. putting the focus on the whole does nothing to frame any arguments and kills the case before it can take hold. this is an issue of proper government spending and elimanating government fraud. this is all brown is proposing, pork. she's trying to waste resources, get her name in the spotlight for a possible run at roosevelt, and recieve money from the government tit.

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't Bridgett run against Chuck Fowler?

Anonymous said...

Why would we need to build city pools when several schools have pools that are unused during the summer?? Seems like a waste to me. Create 10 full time jobs? who uses a pool in the middle of the day in december??

She sounds as dim as Roosevelt.

Anonymous said...

The cost of building a pool would be insignificant when compared to the cost of insuring, maintaining, and staffing the pool. The liability would be enormous and the logistics of managing what is happening in the pool, in the parking lot, in the dressing rooms, and on the diving boards would be prohibitive. Bridget is trying to suddenly sound interested in the community but she ain't and the 'community' knows that. Rosevelt's prayers would be answered in she took him on. Bridget is probably the only Dist. 5 resident that Fowler could beat. And the big question is WWJD?
"What would Jacques do?"

Anonymous said...

Michelle Godard for city council.

Anonymous said...

it was the community who ran down the pool, much like the community ran down the neighborhood parks.

No apologist, it was their community that destroyed their park and pool. Facts are facts, regardless of race. People like Bridgett, Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, especially after the events with Imus this week, show that most Blacks consider themselves a separate community. People like you, who choose to ignore that, makes it no less so. Ever heard of a White Miss America, or a United White College Fund, a White Law Students Association or a White Legislative Caucus? Of course not, but there are Black ones. If a new pool is opened near Peabody, will you send your kids to it ?
I also find this civic minded Bridgett crap, and her little dance with the council, to be interesting coming the week an ethics complaint was filed against her Myron and Kelvin.

Anonymous said...

How about an intergovernmental agreement with the school board for the use of the Peabody pool, without any credit to or mention of Bridgette?

Anonymous said...

"How about an intergovernmental agreement with the school board for the use of the Peabody pool, without any credit to or mention of Bridgette?"

That already exists.

Anonymous said...

"People like Bridgett, Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, especially after the events with Imus this week, show that most Blacks consider themselves a separate community."

Recognize Bridgett, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson for who they are-- attention mongers on the fringes, people who play to racial identity politics because it's intellectually convenient.

I agree with the poster who said this is about a community, not about a race, and when we allow radicals to frame the debate in racial terms, we're not making any progress.

Anonymous said...

Bridget doesn't live in the black community, she lives in West Point. She doesn't have children. She just needs attention, and it looks like she is getting plenty.

Anonymous said...

If you don't think very many Blacks make race an issue, you have your head buried in the sand. Take your arguments up with them.

Anonymous said...

When you let people on the fringes of a political issue determine your perception of an entire race, you're the naive one, and you're playing directly into the racist stereotypes people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson love to talk about.

Anonymous said...

No, you are a naive and blind imbecile if you don't see that it is Blacks themselves who promote racism and refuse to melt into the melting pot of America. You are so hung up with past injustices that you refuse to recognize facts. Other than a few White nuts, it is a large majority of Blacks who appear to desire being recognized as a separate people apart from the rest of us. You are the type that calls it a hate crime when someone kills a Black. Is it a love crime when they rob a convenience store. Until Blacks stop blindly following other Blacks, such as Bridgett Brown and Al Sharpton, and start reporting crime in their neighborhoods and hold in disdain those that lack a work ethic and morals, will we come together as one nation. So your not recognizing this is like saying you don't believe in oxygen. Whether you believe in it or not, it still exists.

Anonymous said...

No doubt some people blindly follow ideologues, but until you recognize that these people are on the extremes and do not represent the mainstream at all, they will continue to have power. You may think Sharpton and Jackson represent the mainstream, but actually, it's people like Barack Obama, Harold Ford, and J.C. Watts. Locally, we seem to pay a lot of attention to Bridgett Brown, at the expense of someone like Sandra Bright, a real community leader and a real advocate for positive change.

Anonymous said...

I find it intersting that the "black leaders" of our community don't live in the black community. It must be guilt that is inspiring her Chetam swimming pool. She must not want little black children swimming in her pool in her back yard.

Anonymous said...

Why does everyone call it a "swimming pool" anyway?????

We all know that white folks can't dance and black folks can't swim.

Please refer to it as a wading pool.

Thank you. That is all.

Anonymous said...

How can we complain. We had a chance to replace Lawson, Silver, and Hobbs with some good guys and give our progressive new mayor a decent shot and we blew it. We are getting exactly what we deserve.

We made sure that all the bad shit including Bridget and Kelvin and the water slides continue

Anonymous said...

"I find it intersting that the "black leaders" of our community don't live in the black community."

You're right. Shouldn't people know that you can't be a black person with an opinion in Alexandria unless you live in the mythical black community? I guess you must mean South Alexandria, right? So if you don't live in South Alexandria, you're living in the "white community." Is that right? If you're a black leader who lives anywhere in Alexandria that isn't in the "black community," you're probably just scared. Right?

It's easy to forget how racist some people are in Alexandria, until you visit this blog for a refresher course in subtle racism.

Anonymous said...

Bridgett does not live in a majority black district for city council, maybe that is what people are referencing. She lives in West Point, close to ASH, why is she fighting for a pool on the other side of town?? Oh, right, because that is the "black" area, by Peabody. Maybe she should fight for her own neighboorhood.

Anonymous said...

Peabody has a pool. ASH has a pool. Bolton has nothing. Maybe someone should fight for those children.

Anonymous said...

Bridgett may not live in a majority black district, but she does live in a majority black city. Maybe she's thinking about running for the at-large seat.

Anonymous said...

There is nothing subtle about this racism. It's as overt as it can be.

Anonymous said...

It's easy to forget how racist some people are in Alexandria, until you visit this blog for a refresher course in subtle racism.

Or watch a City Council meeting on TV and see the special deals given out by Myron and company to Bridgett, Kelvin and others, based solely on thier race and business relations with Myron. The only ones I see and hear making race an issue are Blacks. That's their prime reason for getting hings and prime excuse for screwing up.

Anonymous said...

I see nothing wrong with a successful Black desiring to live in a nice, clean and safe neighborhood. Most people, of any race, move to better neighborhoods. I wish, however, that these so-called Black leaders would spend more time on advising "their" people to not tolerate crime, drug dealing and trash in those neighborhoods. I think that the citizens of the Acadian Village are on the right track.
It does seem that it is Bridgett Brown herself who most often plays the race card, and it has worked for her in the past. Until Blacks, such as Bridgett and others like her, truly assimilate into American society, and stop holding themselves out to being different, will most racism end in this country. When Black politicians fail to speak out for all people, just not those of their race, or seek benefits for just their race, block vote for any Black charlatan that runs for an office, tolerate crime and immorality, and basically keep thinking of themselves as African Americans instead of just Americans, they simply feed the rhetoric of the White Supremacists. However, Black politicians seem no more nor less crooked than White ones.

9:56am-- bolton doesn't have enough room for a pool. the land area they own has been used up. the surrounding area cannot support a pool due to the growth within.

here's a nugget to think about: when you consult with the hindi, vietnamese, or chinese community in this area (however small they may be) do you consult a leader of the community? no? why do you think that is? those communities wish to integrate themselves into the city at large. the same goes for many of the same ethnic groups across the country. going to los angeles you'll never consult with the leader of korea town or an ambassador from the chilean area of eastern l.a. The fact stands that people need to deal with the community instead of their self appointed leaders.

all the cries of racism are annoying. the racist cries are annoying. dealing with facts and empirical observations lends itself to debate on this issue much better. break this down simply and you'll find an answer. brown wants to build a pool in a dying sector of the community, she claims it'll add jobs, there is no vision other than this plan, and the whole deal looks like a sad ploy for attention.

If you know Bridget, and I do, you know that she could not function in society as a white person. Everything that she has and is is soley dependant on white guilt and black opportunism. Daphne Robinson, Kelvin Sanders, and Chuck Johnson, on the other hand, could flourish in any society. In other words, Bridget plays the race card because that's the only one she has.

Ok patriotic and those knowledable of American, State, City and other FLAG protocol??? Here is the situation. Three Flag Poles side by side with the Center POLE the tallest. Four Flags... American, State, City and POW flags present.

VIEWER FACING THE FLAGS, with the American Flag in the Center and highest, which flag is to the viewers left? Which flag is the the viewers right? And which flag is under the American flag???????

I have really found alot about the American Flag and display, but this scenerio I would like to know. Could not find the answer...

Thanks

Anonymous said...

Going out on a limb - US Center, State left City right no such thing as a POW flag. Usually it is flown as a "banner" under US flag.

Anonymous said...

Displaying the POW/MIA Flag
Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action come from EVERY STATE, thus the POW/MIA flag has precedence over state flags. The following guidelines should be followed in flying the POW/MIA flag:

If flying the flag from ONE FLAG POLE, the POW/MIA flag is flown directly below the National Colors.

If flying National, POW/MIA and State flags from TWO poles, the POW/MIA flag should be flown from the same pole as the National Colors, and beneath the American Flag, with the state flag flying from the pole to the left.

Not a bad guess on my part. Thought memory still works. Only leaves the right hanf flag pole open

Anonymous said...

And before someone informs me a "flag" is a piece of cloth because I said the POW/MIA flag is not a "flag I meant it is not a formal flag complete with protocol. If it touches the ground you don't have to burn it. It can be flown at night without a light. It can be flown in inclement weather.

I consider the Stars and Stripes an official flag in that there are a host of rules and regulation governing the use thereof. What is unique to see and immediately comprehend is that the US flag is always to the speaker's right and State or other nation flag to the left. Then when the President or someone is speaking in another Nation their flag is to the President's right. Messes your mind up.

Old age slows the thinking process and the ability to arrive at a what if situation. I hate that.

The City of Alexandria's ordinance against non-inspected and un-licensed vehicles means that a salvage yard cannot locate in Alexandria. In addition to new car dealers having their vehicles towed an Alexandria salvage yard would have their inventory towed and stored by a non-Alexandria salvage yard.

Is PB Sylvester actually that stupid? This situation is beginning to remind me of "military intelligence." Maybe PB Sylvester needs to work as something other than a taxpayer funded trough feder to understand the ramification of stupid ordances. Apparently she doesn't realize that a class action suit should be filled by all non-Alexandria residents against the City of Alexandria for having to accept Alexandria citizen's junk vehicles because thye ordinance prohibits the operation of a salvage yard in Alexandria.

What a joke but typical of city employees out of control.

So your saying stomping on civil rights is less important then what the PB Assistant City Attorney Sylvester wants? Like it or not property cannot, according to the fifth amendment, cannot be confisticated without due process. PB Sylvester is not due process.

Anonymous said...

"They are allowed and used during class at the High Schools, why would LSUA be any different?"
They are not allowed and used in all high schools. They are not allowed in mine. If a student's cell phone goes off, it is taken, sent to the office and the parents must come to get it. The students may keep them in their purses or backpacks as sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Anonymous said...

The ordinance may need to be revised. I don't doubt that. They seem to have been a little overreaching in their definition of the word abandoned. However I doubt the intention of the ordinance was to trample on anyone's civil rights. The Council passed it because Alexandria has a problem with abandoned cars. Hundreds of cars have been removed and towed without incident since they passed this ordinance. I, for one, like the idea of the city finally enforcing codes and cleaning up the streets. If the ordinance needs to be refined, they should refine it.

Spanky said...

The problem with enforcement is that code enforcement does not post notice as they should and make a seizure as they should (under law) through APD which then records the towing incident and location of the towed vehicle. I had a car towed, reported it stolen, found it myself after 4 months after cars had been stacked on top and all sides damaged only to have code enforcement tell me that they impounded it, I had storage fees, and they had more power than the police and could do as they damn well pleased. A cancelled check to me for the amount of my loss and them paying any and all fees associated with the incident prove that they did not really know what they were talking about as Ms. Sylvester should know and will find out as they incur more liability for trespass and illegal seizure. Out of compassion and the hope that he got the message, I did not file charges against the code enforcement officer for trespass and resulting auto theft under state law. I will be happy to instruct anyone how to proceed against the city with a similar complaint as their arrogance continues to exceed their legal knowledge and recent experience.

Spanky said...

Jacques,
Ask Stacey Auzenne about improper vehicle seizures by code enforcement and what can happen. A class action is going to look real bad and be extremely costly as well as some of your folks with the city going to jail. Kelvin laughed when I cautioned him about incurring liability for the city with improper procedures. We may soon see who has the last laugh.

Anonymous said...

It seems that Jacque has inherited a situation where the inmates have been running the asylum their way. Every way he turns he has or will have a mess to clean up caused by Council, City employees and "great legal" minds that think being an Assistant City Attorney is a stepping stone in a career path leading to the position og "God".

All a person has to do is watch PB Sylvester in action to realize she enjoys weilding power and sees herself as the final authority. How can an Assistant City Attorney be an unbiased arbiter in an affair that has a citizen opposed to City actions.

Roy would do well to take a hard look at her and see if he can suffer through the numerous civil actions she has and will be the root cause off.

She fails to understand that her PB appproach to a situation precludes professional intercourse as to resolving a matter.

A politically incorrect term for one of the female gender on a power trip that demonstrates castration tendencies when dealing with those of the male gender.

One of the words is a name for a female of the canine specie.

A buzzword for those females that demonstrate an attack mode against anyone, most especialy male, that challenges the PB's decisions or their interpretation of situations. Any challenge is viewed as an affront to them as an individual and and attack against their position and must be defended at all cost.

Typical reactions include allegations of illegality, threats, name calling, etc.

Spouse of PB's normally are introverted "yes dears."

Typical end results of the PB's actions, decisions and conclusions, once intelligent individuals are involved, are a determination that the PB, blinded by power, has violated the rights of the many resulting in penalties of various nature against the employer.

As a P>S> before someone starts a dialog about attacking the Sylvester. Spanky, a respected contributor and a voice of reason had this to say concerning her: "...they did not really know what they were talking about as Ms. Sylvester should know and will find out as they incur more liability for trespass and illegal seizure."

If his opinion is this and he has bested her on this same subject one would think she would have learned from the experience. Apparently not because she is defending the City's position in this incident. Instead of advising and reworking the ordances she plods along seeking to prove the City right. No matter how much she desires power she is not mightier than the laws of the land, most especisally the Constitution - seems as though she would realize that.

I think her actions, inter-actions and advise is going to cost the City more and more as the affected population realizes she is violating their rights.

Spanky said...

1. Code Enforcement takes it on themselves, without a court order, to enter private property to sieze private property. Criminal trespass under state statute - government officials not exempt.
2. Improper authority effecting procedure. City police would operate with an order on private property and with proper posting of notice on the vehicle if on the public street.
3. Property would be properly impounded and recorded as seized by police for future retrieval by owner if done correctly. Other city officials are not proper parties to sieze property.
4. No roster has been maintained in the past as to the location or description of siezed property of which the city police had access to guide citizens to their impounded property.
The point is that there is a body of case law thta the city has totally disregarded and feel that they can pull out of thin air ordinances that are in direct conflict with the Constitution of the United States and established law of our state.
It is one thing to pick up peoples property that are assumed to be slim on resources, so what happens when they pick up a collectors item out of a garage in Landmark? What is the difference other than the financial status of those affected. Bad medicine, plenty bad medicine paleface.

FROM THE TOWN TALK WEBSITE

Alexandria couple robbed in their home

An investigation is continuing and suspects are being sought in the robbery of an elderly couple Thursday morning, Alexandria Police Detective Lt. Kenneth McCall said.

McCall said the 71-year-old resident on Post Oak Boulevard was taking the garbage out about 6:30 a.m. Thursday when a stranger came up and forced the victim back into his house.

A weapon was used, he said, adding that a more detailed description was not being released at this time.

Once inside the house, the suspect robbed the man and his 69-year-old wife of an undisclosed amount of money and a black Nokia brand cell phone.

The suspect was described as a black male, 25-30 years old, five feet, 11 inches to six feet tall, weighing 180-185 pounds, medium build, medium complexion, wearing a maroon hooded coat and blue jogging pants.

The city council is worried about towing "abandoned" cars, catching people running redlights, and saving $5.00 worth of gas a week by limiting take home vehicles. In the meantime, ruthless packs of thugs are taking over our City. There is no reason that a 71 year old man living on Post Oak who has worked all his life and just wants to enjoy the spoils of his efforts should have to be worried about being robbed when he takes his garbage out to the curb. If the City doesn't figure out how to solve the crime problem, everything else will be moot.

Welcome to Cenla Antics Laura, where ignorant morons, who cannot argue facts with anything you have done or said, only have the capacity to attack you or your family. These gutless cowards feel free to lie about you, and do not have the civility to care who it hurts. Whether it is due to small breasts or penises, being henpecked at home, low man on the totem pole at work, hurting others from their computer seems to make them feel better for their shortcomings. Hold your head up Laura, because, right or wrong, you have somethings these idiots don't, the courage to state a position with your name behind it.

I can and will argue facts with the Bitch. She is famous for defaming character. A character trait that will cost the city dearly. All she can do is defame. But it ain't over till the fat lady sings and if she thinks the average citizens is swcared of her "Power" she is fixing to find out the average Joe doesn't give a shit about what she thins.

This is a very strong accusation; one can only assume you can substantiate this tirade in great, incontrovertable detail.

zgvjidWhy was Tiffany Sanders fired as assistant city attorney? Is Alaina Meyer black or "other"? So far, I think that Kay Micheils is the only non-southern law graduate in the administration.

If Sylvester would truly desire "justice" she would realize the conflict of interest in being the appeal committee and a City attorney. Certainly she must deny an appeal relative to vehicle confiscations by the City. She is part of the City's legal department and, as such, must defend their actions.

If she was a real lawyer in real life and went before such a kangaroo court she would immediately demand the enforcers of the law be excluded from the appeal process. Is this conflict of interest not apparent. in order for an appeal to be succesul the administration would have to find itself in violation of citizen's rights.

I believe if you check her career she has dined at the public trough since becoming a lawyer. She has been a beaurecrat so long she is not a solution to the problem she is part of the problem.

There is no legally recognized conflict of interest, in situations where a city provides and administrative procedure to review its own matters. Most state and federal agtencies do the same, such as DEQ, Social secrurity, and the same thing happens with traffic tickets in smaller towns and villages. You always have a right to go to court, if you disagree with the administrative decision.

Are you sure? I recall her being in private practice before taking the position of Asst. City Attorney about a yeat ago.

Boy those facts just kill you every time.
