Congratulations AG Foti?

Hmm, do we thank AG Foti for doing his job or wonder if there was another reason for his decision? I have thought for awhile on this perplexity. One wonders with the Landreau - Foti ties, that the "decision" of the AG was geared more by politics than law. Mitch's slate was cleaned in the New Orleans Mayor's race, the traditional Landreau political base. Mary, it seems will be in a real political battle for her office, hence her recent attempted retreat into conservatism. Charlie's (Foti) recent identification by James Carville as unable to spell "law" even if "he was given the L and the A". Could this all add up to an all out attack on Louisiana old line politicians? Perhaps Foti's decision was based more on a "heads down" mentality rather than law. I think I will name this the Shhh affect -- political camoflage. Why ring the doorbell and let people know your at the door when you can just walk in without drawing attention to yourself? My opinion: AG Foti's decision was based on not stirring up the population for the upcoming election cycle rather than upholding the law. The question at this point is his office. Will Louisianians consider him non commital or ineffectual? Either way he loses.

so you want me to tell my friends parents that we defeated saddam and his rep. guard. okay. will do.

mission accomplished douche bag!

oh yeah i love how you put the death stats of our boys but forgot to put the enemies total dead.

me- "hey what was the score of last nights game?"

you- "14."

me- "cool, thanks."

why don't you make yourelf useful and get the terrorist death toll.

Anonymous said...

OK, your son or your husband is blown to shit by one of them little roadsiders and now, tell me again what statistic is gonna cheer you up????

The real important number is not the number of terrorists we killed but the number of terrorists we created. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Anonymous said...

The war is not a damn football game, you idiot.

You really believe our death toll is like a "score" in a game? That's unbelievably sickening.

I'm really beginning to be convince that most democraps are ignorant.

Repubs hated Dan Rather. Repubs want Rather gone. Rather accepts a fake news story. Rather is ousted. Mission accomplished!

Oh crap, not Katie Couric. New mission! However, that doesn't take away the fact that DAN RATHER IS GONE!

Are you smart enough to understand?

Saddam was bad. Saddam was ousted. Mission accomplished!

Oh crap, insurgents want control. New mission! However that doesn't take away the fact that SADDAM is NO longer IN control!

Learn your history. Hell, it's recent history. You'd think it'd be easy.

Bush spoke from the deck of the USS on May 1, 2003. In a nationally-televised speech he said major combat operations were over, underneath a banner that proclaimed "Mission Accomplished."

You'd have us believe that Bush was speaking about the capture of Saddam Hussein. Unfortunately for you, Hussein was captured six months later on December 13, 2003.

The original mission was to disarm Iraq because it was believed Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. What happened to that mission?

American kids are dying every single day in Iraq, and the Republicans are still scrambling to define what the mission of the war is. Thousands more Americans have been wounded and killed since Bush declared major combat operations were over than before.

My favorite segment is when he "interviews" a celebrity about their newest movie.......HOW FUCKING RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a war there may be many battles and within battles there may be many missions, I would like to know how you folks think that a game of semantics alters the truth that the mission to penetrate and occupy Iraq was accomplished? The stabilizing and continued occupation of Iraq is a separate mission than what President Bush referred to on the deck of the aircraft carrier. Semantics won't protect you from further danger if we fail to prevail in our current embroilment. You folks seem to forget that our military is performing their primary duty of protecting US from all enemies, foreign and domestic and if you can't be helpful, do the rest of us a favor and get the hell out of the way.

Anonymous said...

Spanky, the only people arguing semantics are those who believe it's necessary to continually redefine the purpose of our ongoing war in Iraq. 60% of Republicans and more than 70% of Americans believe we should begin a phased withdrawal of troops from Iraq. No one doubts the commitment of our soldiers in Iraq, but many people question what we're trying to accomplish. You say we must prevail, but what does that mean? What future do you envision? Should the US be in the business of nation-building, even when it means we have to run interference in someone else's civil war? How does this help our interests? Your rationale is just weak, tired rhetoric. It attempts to be patriotic without being realistic or logical, dismissing anyone who disagrees with you as somehow anti-American.

I ask simply... what does victory look like, Spanky?

Anonymous said...

Spanky, the mission was never to occupy Iraq. You're wrong. In fact, the Bush administration refused to use the term occupation. They had built up this idea we'd be greeted as liberators.

Anonymous said...

You are pissing into the wind. Spanky barks back what he hears from Rush but understands little of what he says, much less what others say. When someone points out the moral depravity of our present conduct in Iraq, Spanky starts yelping what has been described as his "John Wayne" crap. A thoughtful read suggests that his identity and his weaknesses are know by some of the posters.

Anonymous said...

why don't you take the time to talk to someone that has actually spent time in Iraq.

All the I have talked to (military and civilian) agree that the Iraqi people are glad we came. They are ready for us to leave, but they do not know who to trust right now.

trust takes time

just like a lib to take my anology of a one sided "score" (not football, you injected that into my analogy) and warp it so it fits your argument. unless you can tell me how many of those american hating (that means you- the liberal wimps) terorist we have taken out thus far.

i've heard that the total is in the 20,000's, though it is probably much more.

"The real important number is not the number of terrorists we killed but the number of terrorists we created." can't you understand that we made a committment to iraq and if we turn our backs on those who yearn for freedom (the iraqi citizens) we will leave them no choice but to become a terrorist state.

not to mention most of your weak dem leadership all agreed that we should go there.

stop advocating a half ass job....oh wait you are probably a socialist and have no sense of accoutablility.

A classic knee jerk reaction to any rational discussion of our actions in Iraq - accusations of weakness or unpatriotic leanings.

Everybody but Cheney knows the war was poorly conceived, poorly planned, poorly understood, and poorly executed. The democrats, the republicans, the liberals and conservatives, our enemies and our allies all agree that it is a huge mistake. Tell me what will happen to Iraq, the mideast, America, and the world if we do it your way.

You are the weak American. You have no regard for right or justice or American lives. You are the kind of fool that let all this happen.

Anonymous said...

what would happen?

well for starters we plant the seeds of democracy in a state in which democracy was not found. we would keep iran (holocaust denier, nukes, islamo fascist) in check and ultimately bring the fight to them as opposed to letting them come over here and murder us.

just because something is poorly done does not mean you give up. where is your work ethic?

i am weak? you are the one who is weak. you are calling for surrender. i am injust? you are the one saying that we should leave iraq in this mess.

you are a self-centered leach on society.

The war doesn't REALLY matter until it touches you personally. That being the case, since only ONE member of Congress has a child serving in our nation's military, it's not too difficult to figure out why there haven't been drasctic changes to the pattern of our involvment thus far. Oh, and by the way, that member is John McCain, and his child is a Marine, but only recently joined. If you have a child 18-41 or are between the ages of 18-41 yourself, stop and think what your family would do if you were asked to join tomorrow. I am quite sure all the old excuses of VietNam would suddenly come back out. Ask yourself...do you sleep more soundly now than you did before 9-11? How soundly would you sleep if it was your son or daughter, wife or husband, brother or sister that was off in Afghanistan or Iraq and you had to sacrifice that person's pay and possibly their life? Would it matter then? Then would they deserve to come home now or wait until some semblance of order comes to pass? Like I said, it doesn't matter until it personally touches you.

Anonymous said...

"...stop and think what your family would do if you were asked to join tomorrow."

Greg just how does one go about obtaining copies of documents from a government agency? What is the number of the law that governs the procedure?

Tody Bush again revised his definition of success for Iraq to "a reduction of violence". Won't be long before he defines success as bringing the troops home without him and Cheney being impeached.

Yep, you stalwart republicans deserve all the credit for our accomplishments in Iraq (and Iran and Afgahnistan and Detroit and New Orleans). I salute you.

Anonymous said...

Dems=insult of the moment, they did not reinstitute the draft, but your president asked everyone to do what they could to support his war. The draft will NEVER be instituted because then you and all the other idiots in congress would have to look for new ways to keep their kids out of war. My point was that it doesn't AFFECT you personally unless your family is the one sending someone over there. AND YES, this includes friends. Most people will talk all sorts of crap about it ( either pro or con) until their family/friend is involved. I support the soldiers as I was one, and I also sent my husband to Afghanistan, while I stayed home with our new baby, but I do not support sustaining this effort without appropriate funding AND accountability. What we need now is a better understanding of what is ACTUALLY happening on the ground everyday as opposed to the drivel spouted on both sides of the fence. I don't support either party's agenda entirely, but I do support the troops. This war will not be fought and won in Washington, but will be decided by the amount of work and effort our troops give. That being the case, they deserve nothing less than our support any way we can help them. Remember, with or without new gear, soldiers, arimen, marines and sailors have done so much for so long with so little, that now they can and do accomplish everything all the time with nothing.

SUPPORT THE TROOPS, THE POLITICIANS WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES!!

Touche' Anon!

I agree that the politicans (mostly Dem) are not being held accountable for the recent decisions (Gen. patreaus, the surge, going to Iraq) but what has changed since Rumsfeild that allows the Dems (and a couple of reps) to adopt this simular policy, i.e. underfunding, if not flat out cutting funds (pray that they don't), of this war?

We are there and we have an obligation to Iraq. There are good people who deserve Democracy.

There are evil leaders (Akmadinijad) who wish to undermine their freedom. He must be stopped.

Anonymous said...

Instead of cutting funds, they should consider a reevaluation of where and on what we are spending this money. Further, the countries of Iraq and Afghanistan were 3rd world at best when we got there. Both countries have the ability to utilize their own economies to fund their own revitalization efforts. We should not be held accountable, except to the extent that we return them to where they were prior to our intervention. It is then their job to use what they have to further themsevles, now that they are free of the "oppressors" we dispensed with. Give them a model, show them how to use it, provide advisors only, and then force them to use their money to do it. How can this be so difficult to understand and implement? It worked in the Kosovo province. US and other coalition forces held the peace and aided in rebuilding the infrastructure while using Kosovo funds to do so. I witnessed US Navy Seabees conduct appraisals on schools, power grids, water systems, sewer, and other infrastructure, and after the appraisal was done, the Kosovar people provided the labor and materials and the Seabees/Army oversaw it and provided security while it was being completed. That was in August 1999, only two months after the "official air war" was over. By the time January 2000 came, the province had water, lights and schools back in session. What is the difference between then and now? Why can't that work again??

Anonymous said...

The idea is good but will not right now because the citizens are scared of neighboring islamofascist. We must take care of this problem first. They (Iraq) should jump on board as a leading Arab nation (along w/ Saudi Arabia) in the war against reactionary islamofascist.

Maybe, though, it is not responsible to compare Kosovo to Iraq. There are differences.

Anonymous said...

Okay, but there are also striking similarities. Serbia was the overlord then, with Milosevic at the helm, genocide, forced emigration, all directed at the ethnic Albanians. We decided to enter based upon the ethnic brutality serbians had inflicted upon Albanians in the province. After our entry, some serbians fled, but most remained. When we first began there, Albanians were being persecuted by the serbs, but before long and after detaining many serbians, the albanians began returning and perpetrating violence on their former oppressors, the serbs. It was all we could do to figure out who the "real" bad guys were. Considering I had boots on the ground, I can tell you I faced the same problems soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are facing...no defined enemy, an enemy that blends into the population, trafficking of weapons across the Macedonian and Serbian borders, and a flux of power every other week due to who had the majority of weapons and fighters that week. So, since I kicked in doors, and went house to house confiscating weapons and arresting people, and provided security to various communties, yep, it seems to me that the two are very similar. The only differences I see are that the terrain was not a desert, and there was no oil to be had, and we managed to only have a few deaths/injuries on our side.

Oh, and yes, we are still there, too, but not in the numbers we first had there.

Anonymous said...

If I may I will make an adjustment to your comparison. The Serbs/Albanians were ingaged in a regional conflict where as the Iraq situation is a global problem, and not just the burden of the US. We are just the only ones with the steadfast conviction to follow through with our commitment.

Plus, you did not have the anti-war reactionaries in the homeland. That creates a second front in which our boys have to worry about.

Anonymous said...

Could you please explain further what you mean by "regional conflict" and "global problem"? How do you differentiate between the two?

And for part two, no, there weren't any people here protesting Kosovo, because hardly anyone knew what was really happening there. My mom had to depend on code words and internet pieces to find out any news about me.

Anonymous said...

People knew about Kosovo. I don't know why your mother occupied herself with decoding the news.

Perhaps the reason there weren't any mass protests (although some people did protest) is because the conflict in Kosovo was an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT set of circumstances-- very few American casualties, strategically planned and executed, and sold to the American public honestly and openly.

Whereas the Iraq War was poorly planned and poorly executed, sold to the American public on a string of cherry-picked bad intelligence, and thousands of Americans have been killed with thousands more injured.

It's not reactionary to be against this war. Many of the soldiers on the ground are against this war, and believe it or not, soldiers are smart enough to know they don't have to "fight" against people who believe the war was a mistake.

"Where secular pundits and celebrities are given free reign to plead their case to the public, religious leaders are derided as theocrats for injecting religiously derived moral principles into political debates. This stifling of religious voices is intended to prevent religious conflicts in the public square. The underlying thrust for our involvement in Iraq an Afghanistan was to show those that would attack us that we can reach halfway around the world with tremendous firepower as well as boots on the ground. That fact alone is a deterrrent to those that would attack us. To remove our troops from the present conflict without a functioning government that is able to protect its borders with its own forces would prove that we are incapable of finishing what we start as well as to undermine the faith that any other country may have in our will to stay after we have started a conflict. Can you possibly imagine the choice that South Korea or Japan or myriad other countries that have mutual defense treaties with us will make in the face of a substantial military threat that involves us also. The lesson that a lot of the world takes way from Vietnam is that the US will leave a country in distress when it is no longer in our interest to stay. To those that said the domino theory was a fallacy, there are three million dead souls from Vietnam and Cambodia that are silent witnesses to that folly.
As for my "John Wayne bravado", that impression must come from your Sunday matinee education on historical and military affairs. Do your self a favor and study before your ignorances condemns yourself and your countrymen to a future of conflict.

I was also asked what victory looked like in Iraq and Afghanistan. It begins to take form as there is a stable government in Iraq that is able to defend its sovereignty from its neighbor, Iran as well as being an ally to the United States and providing basing rights to our military in case of further future conflict. It also begins to look like victory when countries like Ethiopia feel that they have the backing of the US and will conduct operations in their part of the world to dismantle terrorist groups that attempt to operate in nation-states that have weak governments and low security abilities as they have done recently in Somalia in an attempt to quell genocide in Darfur. In Pakistan, it looks like safe haven being denied terrorist cells by the Pakistanis themselves because they find it in their interest to promote peace in their country also. I am not a war-monger, but I realize that the eagle clutching arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other makes the statement of "peace through strength". Ask yourself what other country you would entrust to hold the power to destroy the earth ten times over and yet search for peace and stability. I dare say you are living in it.

This is the info on te Black Mayors Conference. Appears to be ONLY for Peoples of color... I wonder if any of our Mayors or officials are attending? Does anyone know?

National Conference of Black Mayors to Host 33rd Annual Convention in Baton Rouge, La. on May 2 - 7 Tue Apr 24, 12:28 PM ET

ATLANTA, April 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) is hosting its 33rd Annual Convention in Baton Rouge, the capitol city of Louisiana, from May 2 through May 7 at the Baton River Center. As 2008 presidential candidates have announced their intentions earlier than usual, and as Louisiana is still coping with the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, this year's Convention promises to be one of the most significant for NCBM and the more than 640 black mayors who will assemble in Baton Rouge, La.

Mayor Melvin "Kip" Holden, Baton Rouge's first African American mayor, will join NCBM in welcoming the more than 2,000 attendees -- including mayors, municipal staffs, other elected officials, educators, business people, and foreign dignitaries -- who will gather to acquire leadership development, discuss key topics impacting communities of color, and discover resources they can take back to their respective cities. In total, Convention attendees represent more than 38 million American residents.

"The theme of this year's convention is 'Leadership Is', reflecting NCBM's commitment to empowering the mayors who represent communities of color and equipping them with the accurate information, practical skills and applicable resources they need to better serve their constituents, " says Vanessa Williams, executive director of NCBM. "This Convention is so much more than another chance to gather; we get work done -- from discussing our communities' priority agendas with presidential candidates and learning about new research relevant to our communities to gaining skills and resources that will influence local policies."

Throughout the Convention, mayors and other notable politicians and community leaders, will engage with presidential hopefuls, including plenary sessions and luncheons with Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator John Edwards, Senator Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) and Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

Other prominent influencers scheduled to appear at the Convention include: Prime Minister Portia Simpson of Jamaica; renowned actor Danny Glover; author, academic and radio host Dr. Michael Eric Dyson; athlete and entrepreneur Earvin Magic Johnson; and singer/actor Harry Belafonte. The conference will also feature entertaining performances by musicians Erykah Badu and John Legend, and comedian Rickey Smiley.

During Convention workshops and seminars, mayors and NCBM leadership will discuss the following key NCBM topics:

-- Greening Communities of Color: A 2005 Associated Press analysis found
that Africans Americans are 79 percent more likely than whites to live
in neighborhoods where industrial pollution is suspected of posing the
greatest health danger. This Convention will shed light on the latest
statistics and the startling physical and economic consequences within
communities of color. NCBM will unveil a partnership with researchers
and the historically black colleges & universities (HBCUs) to further
study the significance and impact of landfills in minority communities,
and will educate mayors through a series of workshops.

-- Building Sustainable Families: The U.S. Census revealed that, on the
whole, African Americans have lower rates of marriage and marital
stability than all other ethnic groups. They also have higher rates of
single-headed families than other groups. NCBM will establish a
dialogue about strategies to reverse this trend and will announce a
partnership with the Department of Health & Human Services to focus on
building stronger black families.

-- Establishing Effective Emergency Protocols: Through Hurricane Katrina,
mayors and city officials all over the nation learned the hard way
about the value of established, effective communications systems and
protocols during a state of emergency. At the Convention, NCBM will
roll out a partnership with Connect-CTY to establish technological
systems that will enable real-time communication during an emergency
via cell phones, text messages and email alerts, as well as a
partnership with the

American Red Cross to provide disaster
preparedness training to all mayors.

"Baton Rouge is ready to roll out the red carpet for mayors, prime ministers and other visiting officials, many who will be visiting our city for the first time with the National Conference of Black Mayors," says East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Melvin L. "Kip" Holden. "Our city has a diverse group of people who are working together to make this conference one of the most successful ever."

In addition to the workshops and programs for mayors, Mayor Holden will host NCBM attendees at the festive FestForAll Outdoor Celebration, featuring live blues music and Louisiana cuisine. Also, the Convention will feature a daylong Youth Day on Saturday, May 5 focusing on educating and empowering youth.

About the National Conference of Black Mayors

The National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) was founded in 1974 as a private, nonpolitical, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that represents African American mayors nationwide. Representing 641 mayors today, NCBM advocates for and impacts more than 38 million people. The organization's mission is to enhance the executive management capacity of its members for the purpose of governing viable municipalities. As such, NCBM provides technical and management assistance to its members, as well as serves as a clearinghouse for information pertinent to municipal development.

Due to the organization's enormous growth over the past 33 years, NCBM has established state chapters through which the delivery of technical assistance is facilitated. Nineteen state chapters of NCBM provide the membership with local vehicles for addressing issues of importance to mayors. In addition, NCBM maintains ten Standing Committees that address issues of interest to urban and rural leaders. These Committees include: Arts Culture and Recreation; Criminal and Social Justice; Energy and Environment; International Affairs; Rural Development; Community Development; Education; Health and Human Service; Jobs and the Workforce; and Transportation and Communications.

Who gives a shit about a black mayor's conference? It may be hard for some of you white conservatives to believe, but it can be somewhat difficult to be a black leader in the United States. The black community faces enormous problems with crime, education, and leadership. Not to mention that in many parts of the country racism is still alive and healthy. No one expects a white conservative from Pineville to understand or appreciate this situation, but it seems like the same people who believe the problems in the black community must be solved within the black community also believe that black people shouldn't be allowed to hold leadership conferences or offer scholarships to black kids who would otherwise never get the opportunity for a quality education. You blame black people for the problems within the black community, yet when anyone wants to hold conferences or offer scholarships, you cry foul, as if white people are missing out on these opportunities.

If you had half a brain you would realize that the story about the green hotel and it's "bible" is simply an illustration of how the left condemns religion based on it's strict moral code while touting their extremist green agenda which has an even stricter political code. The Global Warming scare is in fact the equivalent to religious idealism simular to Armageddon.

Also, you make the statement that I am dangerous. How so? While every American life lost in Vietnam was precious, so were the 3 million in Southeast Asia that were lost after our disengagement. Does your concsience accept any responsibility for that? Or is it a matter of if you ignore the truth, you can maintain selective piety. I do not promote killing, but realize that any military engagement entails casualties as does the failure to recognize and act on security threats.
The pro-active policy of engagement in Vietnam cost roughly 50,000 lives while on the other hand, the disengagement and abandonment policy cost 3 million lives. That is a 60 to one ratio of lives lost as one policy was activated over another. Will you be around to accept a similar scenario if we disengage from the Middle East? Or will you fail to see the truth while you live in whatever fog it is that prevents you from seeing events, past and present, as they exist today. Since you do not agree with the status quo, what is your solution and resulting scenario? Or have you thought that far ahead?

So the US is now responsible for each and every life that perished after we withdrew from the vietnam war? So we should have stayed in Vietnam, spanky? That's what you think? Since we should have stayed in Vietnam and we didn't, we should learn that lesson and stay in Iraq? No matter what how many of our young men and women die and no matter whether or not we can even determine what our mission is, we must stay? Is that what you believe? Also remember Congress authorized Bush to use force against Iraq because they believed he possessed weapons of mass destruction.

What recollection do you have of Vietnam? Is it what you have read or are you old enough to remember the sequence of events?
Militarily, we actually were dominant in South Vietnam and politically could not push beyond the DMZ which put us in the position of being a strictly defensive force that was more of a target for guerilla activity. That was not acceptable and the protests called for us to pullout. We formulated a policy of constructive disengagement that was to allow time for the South Vietnamese forces to build to the point that they could defend themselves. During that period of disengagement, cries became more strident to pull out faster which left the South Vietnamese militarily unable to defend themselves. So what is your answer? Was it a sin of commission or ommission? Being able to percieve the outcome, were we as a country responsible for the subsequent events? Because we weren't there to hear the tree fall, did it make a sound? It will be your world to run in a few years and your burden to bear for the misteps after I am dead and gone. Ask yourself those questions.

Anonymous said...

I remember Vietnam quite well, and I also remember that there was no direct correlation between the protests on the streets and our military strategy. Maybe you would have that memory if you were living here and not on some isolated military base. Don't tell me the political will wasn't there when more than 58,000 young Americans gave their lives in that war. Were we supposed to be willing to lose hundreds of thousands of lives fighting in a war we had no business being in? Today in Iraq, it's the same story. History will record that when the protests were the loudest and when the American people voted for a change in leadership in Congress, Bush ordered a surge in troops, and much like Vietnam, we're not sure what to do, how to do it, why we're even there, or how many American lives we're willing to sacrifice.

Anonymous said...

I don't remember Vietnam, but I think that comparing the two wars is probably misleading. I don't believe it would be wise for us to leave Iraq, as it would create an incredibly vulnerable situation that al-Qaeda and other terrorist/insurgent groups could use as a breeding ground to attack the West. It wasn't wise for us to go there in the first place, but now that we're there, we have to understand the regional and global consequences of our occupation.

Okay, since someone else tried to break the previous litany, I have a question that I feel may become important in the near future. How does an issue become a ballot entry? Like say for instance, if a citizen wanted to have a matter addressed by the populace through a general vote in the next election, how does one get that issue on the ballot? I am curious because I am a resident of Pineville that supports alcohol sales and if the proposed legislation fails and does not stymie the efforts to bring demon rum across the river, how can I start the ball rolling to get it to a vote? I am thinking if it were actually on a ballot, residents would be surprised by how quickly it would pass and how soon we could actually have prohibition lifted again!!

Here is what Bolton High School has to look forward to.....

Some Schools Drop Laptop Programs

By WINNIE HU
LIVERPOOL, N.Y. — The students at Liverpool High have used their school-issued laptops to exchange answers on tests, download pornography and hack into local businesses. When the school tightened its network security, a 10th grader not only found a way around it but also posted step-by-step instructions on the Web for others to follow (which they did).

Scores of the leased laptops break down each month, and every other morning, when the entire school has study hall, the network inevitably freezes because of the sheer number of students roaming the Internet instead of getting help from teachers.

So the Liverpool Central School District, just outside Syracuse, has decided to phase out laptops starting this fall, joining a handful of other schools around the country that adopted one-to-one computing programs and are now abandoning them as educationally empty — and worse.

Many of these districts had sought to prepare their students for a technology-driven world and close the so-called digital divide between students who had computers at home and those who did not.

“After seven years, there was literally no evidence it had any impact on student achievement — none,” said Mark Lawson, the school board president here in Liverpool, one of the first districts in New York State to experiment with putting technology directly into students’ hands. “The teachers were telling us when there’s a one-to-one relationship between the student and the laptop, the box gets in the way. It’s a distraction to the educational process.”

Anonymous said...

No. Bolton won't make it 7 years. What do you think will happen when the 11th and 12th graders, gifted and honors have computers and the chronic socially promoted 17 year old th graders dont? I am sure they will all be stolen and available at Silver Dollar before homecoming.

You have both perfectly illustrated one of the main impediments to educating the public on the real threat of global warming and our responsibility, as citizens of the planet Earth, to confront this crisis.

Regardless of where it is placed, "An Inconvenient Truth" is not analogous to the Bible, a text sacred to over one billion people throughout the world. The Bible is an article of faith, whereas "An Inconvenient Truth" is a film that documents our growing climate crisis and our potential to help solve this crisis. Those who prefer to believe global warming is simply a matter of faith are woefully ignorant of the scientific consensus supporting said theory. A belief in global warming does not require Christians to adopt a different "moral code;" indeed, the Bible requires us to respect and care for our home.

The attempt to create a false dichotomy between Christian Americans who believe in the Bible and Christian Americans who believe in the Bible and believe in global warming is alarming and ignorant. As Republican Mike Huckabee said today, regardless of what you believe, we have a responsibility, much like the Boy Scouts do with their campsites, to leave our planet in better shape than we found it. We must be "good stewards" of our planet.

Blah blah blah. Shut up. Hypocracy is hypocracy. You can twist it so that my education is to question but when anyone with blind faith for a religion (global warming for example) and couples this with national policy you get what is called and agenda.

Don't question my education. Instead question your ability to dumb yourself down so as to be indiscriminate. We must, as logical creatures, discriminate between unproven science and consensus, especially when people are willig to blindly fall in line while at the same time cast stones at other religions.

My point: hypocracy.

This removes any doubt about the extermination of Al Qaeda and the rest of the terrorist organizations. Let a liberal argue thier point after reading this story.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) May 4, 2007 — American soldiers discovered a girls school being built north of Baghdad had become an explosives-rigged “death trap,” the U.S. military said Thursday.

The plot at the Huda Girls’ school in Tarmiya was a “sophisticated and premeditated attempt to inflict massive casualties on our most innocent victims,” military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said.

Soldiers found rounds and explosives in what the military is calling a sophisticated “attempt to inflict massive casualties.”

The military suspects the plot was the work of al Qaeda, because of its nature and sophistication, Caldwell said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

The plot was uncovered Saturday, when troopers in the Salaheddin province found detonating wire across the street from the school. They picked up the wire and followed its trail, which led to the school. Once inside, they found an explosive-filled propane tank buried beneath the floor. There were artillery shells built into the ceiling and floor, and another propane tank was found, the military said.

Rounds were placed in front of each classroom and at the end of the hallway. Artillery shells were built into the ceiling.

The wire was concealed with mortar and concrete, and the propane tanks had been covered with brick and hidden underneath the floor, according to a military statement. Soldiers were able to clear the building.

“It was truly just an incredibly ugly, dirty kind of vicious killing that would have gone on here,” Caldwell said.

Iraqi contractors were responsible for building the school, which was intended to bring in hundreds of girls.

The wire ran along the wall of the hall. Wiring led to a stairwell, where a large propane tank was buried.

“Given the care and work put into emplacing this IED, it is likely it had been planned for a long time” and it is thought that “the IED was not intended to be set off until the building was occupied,” the military said.

Authorities intend to question the Iraqis involved in the school’s construction.

An explosive-filled propane tank was buried underneath the floor, and a second tank was buried at the base of a stairwell.

The U.S. military released this aerial view of the school, which was being built north of Baghdad in Salaheddin province.

No liberal that I know would disagree with your statement. The questions are about whether Bush's execution of his war on terror and Iraq are going to eliminate terrorism or promote it. The Bush approach has very few fans left on either side of the aile. Bush's greatest supporter, McCain, described the war as "terribly mismanaged" thus far. And Giap added that anti-war activists, “Gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses. We were elated when Jane Fonda, wearing a red Vietnamese dress, said at a press conference that she was ashamed of American actions in the war.”

Jihadis drive up to a checkpoint with 2 terrified, kidnapped children in the car, the better to put the guards at ease…Once past the checkpoint, they park the car next to a crowded market, leave the kids inside, then detonate the car to kill everyone near it.

***A Jihadi government produces a television ad praising a real-life mother who blew herself up to kill Jews…The ad concludes with her surviving child inspired to follow in Mom’s exploding footsteps…

***Jihadis develop the tactic of blowing up trucks full of chlorine in crowded city streets, effectively drafting Arab pedestrians into the trenches of World War I.

***Jihadis kidnap a trusting young man with Down’s Syndrome…Strap a bonb vest onto him, order him to walk into a line of waiting voters, then detonate him when he tries to turn back crowd of people waitin

***Jihadis walk into a popular bakery and machine-gun the customers

In the case of alcohol, you have the process backward.
Louisiana law says that every election district in the state is by default, totally WET. If the voters of that district wish to outlaw alcohol they must have a local election to forbid the sale. That issue is placed before the voters by the successful petition of 25% of the registered vorers. The signatures have to be gathered in a 60 day period.

Currently there are DRY areas in Rapides Parish. They are DRY because such a described election was held in those areas in 1981.

In 2005, the Louisiana Supreme Court threw out the results of a local option election held in Sabine Parish on the basis that the voting districts had changed.

In Rapides Parish, the same thing occured...voting districts have changed.

The results of the Sabine Case hold for Rapides also, however someone has to sue the Parish in order to FORCE the Police Jury to comply with the Supreme Court decision in the "Sabine Case"

That suit is working it's way through the 9th JDC now, a hearing is scheduled on May 11.

Eventually, the Police Jury will be forced to comply with the Supreme Court decision from "Sabine" as it applies to Rapides Parish.

This means that all the dry areas in Rapides will fall into the DEFAULT STATE POSITION OF WET.

In order to become dry again, a NEW petition would have to be circulated, a NEW election be held, and a NEW ban on alcohol implimented.

Anonymous said...

CORRECTION the Mayors Job Approval Ratings are at %90 among Mayoral Assistants. Actual Job Approval Ratings among regular citizens are around %10. Sorry for the confusion.

"Keep wishing, the mayor's approval numbers are approaching %90, as of last week. That's even better than the %76 approval he had on election day. The mandate is not going to subside."

Keep making up poll numbers, 76% was not an approval poll. It was an election result of those that cared enough to vote.

Many of those votes were anti-Brewer, not pro-Roy. Trust me I'm one.

And if he's already running polls about his popularity, HE'S Vain and Conceited. Plus his pollster is lying to him about results. NO ONE gets 90% approval, Ever!

So I have to agree with anon 3:10, he's 90% approval with mayoral assistants and only 10% with the public (sounds more reasonable).

Anonymous said...

Bush had a 90% approval after 9/11. It's possible, though I seriously doubt Roy is spending any money running approval rating polls.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of lower approval ratings I think it fair to say that Fields is in a freefall and that is why he has been hiding in Baton Rouge. There is some talk of a poll to see what the chances of a recall would bring. Stay tuned there are a few people really serious about this or so they say.

Anonymous said...

From the Town Talk's forum....

Anyone read Roy's response on KALB.com?

"Why did council members say they were taken by surprise? And, why would they be concerned about increasing security?

As far as the council being surprised, the security issue is nothing new, and they, indeed, had verbally stated their concerns. If you look at their offices, they are completely locked down from the front entrance of the department to the door connected to the council chambers. Only those with the code are able to access the rooms behind the actual city council chambers. The suggestion for a security plan, made by Chuck Johnson, who serves both the Administration and the City Council, was to ensure that everyone in the council chambers would be provided with the same level of security currently provided to the council alone except in open session.

The issue here is not about security. The Administration does not engage in surprise tactics, although it constantly deals with such action by the city council which uniformly seeks to broaden its role from legislating to day-to-day operations.

In city government, there are two branches – the City Council, led by the City Council President, and the Administration, led by the Mayor. The City Council’s role is to authorize ordinances that govern the city, and the Administration’s role is to enforce that legislation and manage the City’s operations and planning. One of those operational requirements is to do everything to protect the residents of our city, particularly when they use our public facilities.

Why is the Administration interested in increasing security?

I have no apologies for being concerned about security in this day and age. It’s easy to criticize the attention being paid to creating a security plan until something actually happens. Then the question would be “why was more not done”? The city’s administration takes its responsibility for public safety seriously and that includes everyone who attends council meetings including the councilmen, the administration and especially the residents who are in attendance.

Has there been a specific event that triggered the proposal?

To be specific, members of the administration have had real threats. In addition, we’ve had people walk into council meetings with duffel bags and other paraphernalia that seem unrelated to the reason for being at the meeting, and yes, that does raise the level of concern. But, most importantly, it is clear that an appropriate response to a threat cannot occur under the current model.

I would like to note that many of the governmental buildings in the same vicinity have strict security measures including the Rapides Parish Courthouse, Alexandria City Court, U.S. District Court and the Louisiana State Office Building.

Could the council have initiated measures to increase security?

Absolutely. Because the City Council’s chamber space is under its control, we had initially hoped that the council members would initiate additional security procedures. When nothing was forthcoming, the city attorney, who acts on the behalf of both branches of government, sent down a letter outlining his recommendations to create a more secure meeting place and simply follow existing law, which as I mentioned before, is the Administration’s job.

In the letter, it was mentioned that a Fire Department officer would be on hand to enforce capacity regulations? Why is that important?

As far as enforcing the fire code regarding legal capacity, I want to say that we’re pleased that the residents have taken an interest in city government by attending our council meetings, but overcrowding any space beyond its limits is unsafe. The capacity for the room is set through a national code and is designed to make sure that people can get out of the building quickly and efficiently in case of a fire. Again, this is the Administration enforcing a regulation that is already in place.

What about council members saying there is a lack of communication?

In reference to the comments regarding the lack of communication, I personally make concerted efforts to be available at any time day or night to speak to council members and have instructed the rest of my staff to be as accessible. Since I took office in December, I have made repeated attempts to contact Mr. Everett Hobbs by phone. He has neither answered nor returned numerous phone calls since that time. Because it is vital that the City Council President and the Mayor of any city are able to share and discuss information, I have resorted to the written word in order to assure consistent communication to Mr. Hobbs and the entire council. This is not my first choice in that it extends the time it takes to get things done, but I have been left with no other options."

Crazy stuff. It looks like the Town Talk article may have gotten a few things wrong, and it really seems like Hobbs is the one with a communication problem. Roy says he doesn't answer phone calls, and then when they introduce a new policy, he acts like the mayor is the one with the communication problem. Didn't he do the same thing with the mayoral assistants? Pretend like he never heard of them? This guy is unbelievable.

Maybe the council needs a change in leadership. There's got to be someone who is willing to answer the freaking phone.

Roy has finally pulled the curtain on this council. He says they attempt to be involved in day to day operations, which is something we on antics have been trying to tell people for over a year. When Hobbs won't answer his damn phone he blames the mayor for a communication problem. The two big losers in this are Silver and Hobbs.

I am shocked at the contrast between how really good the mayor is and how inept and petty the city council is. I hope the council gets in step and lets the administration do its job instead of offering those rediculous slogans, buzz words and excuses.

I really don't care if Pineville is wet, or dry, or falls off the face of the damn world next week.

I was just trying to inform another poster who apparently thought local option elections vote IN FAVOR of alcohol.

If you hate Fields, FINE...hate him all you want I don't give a shit.

But don't you accuse me of being on Fields'side OR the side of a bunch of bible thumping radical churchies that want to control the way the rest of Rapides Parish thinks and acts.

In short...go screw yourself

No, actually it is: "Pot and Kettle, meet the city charter.

It is against the law for the council to direct the fire or police operations and security is a public safety, hence, an administration function. Roy is not the only one who has trouble contacting council members. None of them return calls, give answers, know what's going on in their respective districts, or make themselves available to the people. Silver makes it very clear, if you somehow manage to contact him, that he does not want to be bothered. Fowler is just plain rude.

You could always get in touch with Johnson and he always sounds sincerely interested and would make promises that he had no intention of keeping, to resolve problems that he did not fully understand. But Johnson, at least, sounds interested.

I agree. How did we re-elect Hobbs when we had an educated young professional candidate with sincere interest and fresh ideas to elect? We need to collectively accept the blame for this horrendous clusterfuck.

Anonymous said...

adolescent is a great analysis of the Mayor's actions. Did he NOT just have all of their attention in private meetings discussing the budget? COULD he NOT have discussed the security issue with them at that time?

Better yet, couldn't Chuck have discussed it with a least four of them at the Corner Office since he was there after last Tuesday's meeting?

The dicatorial persona the Mayor has assumed in whipping the Council into shape may just bite him on his behind. He apparently doesn't understand City Government is a partnership. He can't move forward any of his initiatives and get projects funded without their help. However, they can introduce pretty much whatever they want and fund whatever they want since they do control the funding. They can very easily unfund his pet projects and assistants as well.

It's time for these two groups - the Mayor and his entourage - and the Council to have a come to Jesus meeting and all get on the same page and quit playing in the sand box as if they were 5 year olds.

I think many of the councilmen want to work with our new mayor, but if their president won't answer or return the mayor's phone calls, there's obviously a communication problem on their end. The mayor says he has basically resorted to the writing letters because he can't get through to Hobbs any other way. Maybe they should think about recalling their president. There's probably one of them responsible enough to answer the mayor's phone calls.

Somebody on the TownTalk site pointed out some interesting facts;

Jacques wants the council to stay out of his business;

Jacques proceeds to get in the council's businees by getting CJohnson to increase security at council meetings;

The council is confused by the admin dictating council meetings procedures;

The TownTalk tries to contact Jacques for a reply, with no success. CJohnson gives them the old - no comment;

Roy replies that it was done because he couldnt get Hobbs to call him back, and that CJohnson was the one that really did it, and CJohnson can do that because he works for both the admin and council;

So if CJohnson works for both the admin and council, why did he give TownTalk a - no comment? And if Jacques wants Hobbs to pick up the phone, then why didn't he pick up the phone when the TownTalk called?

Hell, why not get us a gambling boat to park on the Pineville side? I don't see why not. And while we are at it, is there ANY reason why we could not seek a state law to allow prostitution in certain areas. It is CRAZY to let all that money go elsewhere when we can have it in Pineville. Come on Clarence come out of hiding and sneak those into Pineville. You are toast anyway.

And lets not forget about the tax revenues that will roll in when Clarence taxes and legalizes drugs in Pineville. More bike tracks and maybe, just maybe, even enough money for a much sought after waterslide. Just think of it, gambling, alcohol, prostitution, drugs and a waterslide. Soon Pineville can be the largest city on the state, all thanks to the excellent leadership of Clarence. All in Pineville can also get a good deal on buying their insurance through his wife. Pineville will become Shangralai. The future looks bright doesn't it. Can hardly wait for the Mayor to get back from the racists mayors convention to start.

From Merriam - Webster's Online Dictionary:

Racism - 2 : racial prejudice or discrimination.

discrimination - 2 : the quality or power of finely distinguishing
3 a : the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually.

Miss Black America, Black Mayor's Conference, Black Caucus, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Black Entertainment Television channel are all examples of racism.

Another Load of Lies from Aymond

Greg, you posted this on your own website: "Pineville responded by demanding that the request be limited in scope and never answered the question of downloading the emails."

I have a copy of the entire case file, obtained by requesting it from the Clerk’s office. In that file, Ellen Meloncoln replied to your request within the three days, and simply asked that you clarify your request. I also have a copy of the request. C’mon Greg, your request is about a clear as a Charles Fredrick Smith ebonics laden answer to a simple question. Because you never specified what you were asking for, in the scope of the e-mails, she simply asked that you be a little more specific so she could give you what you requested. Personally I think you were vague on purpose to set this whole thing up, but that’s for discussion later.

So Lie #1 is that Pineville demanded you limit your scope. That's a lie! They just asked you to be a little more clear with your request so they might accommodate you.

Lie #2. You make it sound like Pineville has some sort of obligation to tell you if the e-mails can be downloaded. They don’t, and Judge Swent has told you so.

This whole publicity stunt will play out this week in court on the 11th. Why don’t you just let the court decide this as a matter of Law and stop the propaganda Greg?

Anonymous said...

I see why Central State Hospital was located on that side of the river. It apprears escapees could easily blend with the population as being able to post on Antics just makes your existance evident.

Anonymous said...

Let's see who is lying:

Exhibit "C" of Pineville's Petition is my request. It says "1). All e-mails to or from Rich Dupree for the past five (5) years on any computer at the City of Pineville, or contained in any archives." Additionally that request stated: "As to the e-mails, rather than printing out each e-mail, please state which types of computer media storage devices these can be downloaded to, and if I can supply my own media to download these to, or portable hard drive to download them to".
Pineville's response, Exhibit "D", states: We ask that you narrow the scope of your request.....Once you have presented a clearly defined scope, we will contact you regarding the same." The question about download the emails were never answered. However, the Attorney General, who according to LSA-R.S. 44:31.2 is designated to provide training materials to records custodians as to their responsibilities, has stated: "The Public Records Law contains no limitation on
the number or size of the requests which may be made by a person." Attorney General Opinion Number 93-482. Additionally, the Attorney General informs custodians that "if an applicant has been denied the right to inspect a record by final determination of the custodian, or by the passage of five days from his request, he may file a civil suit for mandamus, injunction, or declaratory relief and may receive attorney’s fees, costs of court, and damages if his suit is successful." Keep in mind that Pineville filed this lawsuit, not me.
So did Pineville's response requiring me to "narrow the scope" comply with the law. That is the primary question to be resolved. Also, if, as many claim, this is a pure vendetta on my part, I could have used Section 37 provides that if a custodian or any other person hinders an applicant in his quest for inspection of a public record, that person shall be fined not less than $100, or not more than $1,000, for the first offense, and shall be put in jail not less than one month, nor more than six months, which I did not.
The Pineville minions are correct, however, that these matters will be decided in a court of law, not upon a blog. However, when misinformation is fed, I may choose to respond.

An average citizen is NOT going to go and get "the file" from the Clerks office and then lambast GAymond. In all liklihood this is someone who a) Is a party to the case b) works for the City c) is a lawyer in the case d) is a spouse of one of the above. In any event, the hatred is not a one way thing and it comes across as obvious.

These people are on both sides of the alcohol issue . No leadership is worse than bad leadership. And he has taken many of the aldermen with him. When a guy falls into a job like Fields did there is very little scrutiny. Its there now and if you get away from the people who stand to gain from him being Mayor and ask the general public about his lack of leadership, hiring of cronies, lack of vision and ideas, poor planning such as the weedy bike track and his wilingness to be a part of such racist meetings as the BLACK MAYOR CONVENTION when he should be doing the job he was given by the citzens then you will find that the support aint there no mo.
