....Five and one quarter, Five and one half ...
There have been many times where I have pondered shutting down this blog. Each time I have asked friends about doing so they have asked me not to do so, "it has merit" is the usual response. I have watched, ney ... allowed ... personal friends to be maligned by bloggers on this site. I know the intricities of the truth, while others presume to know. I find it disappointing that untruths are posted here. It is unfortunately the nature of the beast. My grandfather would tell me time and again ... "it is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid than open it and prove it". What a wise man my grandfather was ....

OK "Geneology Anyone?" You can have your nom-de-poot back. Just quit the sneeky shit.
I can't for Monday morning. The Sunday night crowd on the blog is never very interesting.
I want to apologize for what I just said. I know it was stupid.
I liked it.
I liked it.

Three times stupid.

A summary of the gift restrictions contained in
Louisiana’s Code of Governmental Ethics
Louisiana Board of Ethics

GENERAL PROVISIONS OF §1115
! No PUBLIC SERVANT shall solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, any thing of economic value as a gift or gratuity
from any person who has or is seeking a contractual, business, or financial relationship with the public servant’s
agency.
Persons who give prohibited gifts to public servants violate §1117 of the Code and are subject to the enforcement penalties for their violation.
Yes, but it says nothing about bribes, they are OK.
IMHO the bloggers here should pay closer attention to the last two paragraphs of The Northside Journal editorial. This is a generational conflict. It is truly a conflict between the old lions and the young lions. Jacques Roy and the rest of the young lions will win the election, but it will be years before they completely drive the old lions from the pride. When the dust settles from the election, the fight will have just begun.
Survey says.... watch for Roy and his lions to move swiftly to replace the city's attorneys, and strip the council of all power and authority not specifically granted to them in the city charter. Also watch the council fight like hell to resist this move. Also, watch as Roy quietly moves to replace everyone who got their COA job through council influence. The transformation will likely take most of his first term, but by the end of year #3 the old lions will have been killed off and the young lions firmly in control.
The feathers and bones have spoken.
That Sooth would feel it necessary to spout the obvious is scarey. I agree, he taies himself way too seriously.
I predict that he will change the nameplate on the mayor's door. I predict he will start parking at city hall.

NEW BREWER AD!!!
Hi, Im DB and I got SCREWED at Jiffy Lube. They sold me a air filter when my husband told me I didn't really need it...
I later found out that JR goes to the same Jiffy Lube!!!
I now have no integrity!
caught the tail end of KALB news story on Jimmy Deramus plane crash- someone killed, all others injjured and take to local hosp.
Can you fill me in?
And your an idiot...........
This blog is hilarious and has become totally irrelevant. Tom David contributed to both campaigns. Like many in this town, he is playing it safe I'm sure. A while back someone said something to the effect " Do you really want the light shined on your name as a Brewer contributor". That is so typical of the Roy supporters. Threatening people for exercising their right to support whoever they choose. I think that says a lot about the Roy campaign.
All the Town Talk site has is that there was a plane crash in Grant Parish, on Alexandria resident dead, there were 5 on board.
Also there was another crash reported in Winn Parish.
KALB just has that Fort Polk and others are looking for a civilian aircraft that went missing at 8:30 tonight somewhere around Grant and Winn.
They're reporting that Chad Deramus died and that Jimmy, his wife, and his daughter are all in the hospital right now with serious injuries.
The TT site has Chad Deramus, Jimmie's son deceased.
Deramus crash was in Grant this evening.
"And your an idiot..........."
And you're (you are) illiterate!!!
DORK!
I know people have a poor opinion of Deramus but this is terrible news. Does anybody know how far Fairfield Rd is from the Pollock Airport? I know the airport is closed, but at least they would have been on runways and in a place that is somewhat clear from trees.
Jimmie is Jimmie but he is a, good friend and the most totally devoted family guy I ever met. I hope the rest of the family makes it. This won't be easy for them no matter what. His son in law was injured in a tragic accident and they still live with those problems. His daughter, Tammy, is a complete angel. She ain't fancy but she is entirely decent.
Two plane crashes; claim two lives

A deadly plane crash leaves an Alexandria family in mourning. There were two separate plane crashes found Sunday in Grant Parish both ending with one person dead.
Sunday's wreck happened shortly after 4:00 p.m.. The plane crashed on Fairfield Road, off Highway 122 near Dry Prong. Grant Parish Sheriff's Chief Deputy, Preston Mosley says Chad Duramus of Alexandria died in the crash.
Authorities say the four other people who were in the plane were taken to a local hospital with injuries. The survivors are Jimmy Duramus, Peggy Duramus, Jenny Duramus, and the pilot Jon Norman all of Alexandria. Jimmy Duramus is the owner of the Silver Dollar Pawn Shop on Lee Street. Mosley says the pilot encountered engine problems and tried to land the plane safely in an open field.
Mosley says the other plane crash found Sunday actually happened Saturday around 7:00 p.m.. Fort Polk medevac and search crew was requested by the Army Radar Approach Control to assist in the search for the suspected downed civilian aircraft. The single engine aircraft lost visual and verbal contact with ARAC between Winnfield and Pollock.
Mosley says authorities found the wreckage around 5:00 p.m. Sunday by search helicopter. The downed plane was found in a wooded area, off Highway 500 near Packton, west of Georgetown. The only occupant in the plane died, Dr. Fleiman Salibi of Lake Charles. Mosley says the plane was a military type plane from World War II. Both plane crashes are reportedly under investigation.
As you will recall, several on this Blog have previosuly posted that much of the corruption spoken of by local attorney, Greg Aymond, was a lie, and that all of those matters have been thoroghly investigated and dismissed. Below is a letter notifying Mayor Roy Hebron of a formal hearing on those charges. Also notice that this came out in September, and has not been reported by any local media.

Re: Ethics Board Docket No. 2004-416
In the matter of Roy Hebron
Dear Mr. Hebron:
The Louisiana Board of Ethics, at its September 14, 2006 meeting, considered a confidential investigation report which indicated that during your brother’s service as an appointed member of the Rapides Parish Waterworks District, you instructed the staff of the water district to install a new water pipeline down a privately owned road to service your residence in degradation of the water district’s policy and procedure and without the proper approval by the Board of Commissioners for the water district and, that subsequent to its completion, the district’s Board of Commissioners accepted such pipeline into the water district system at the district’s expense at a time when you were the only landowner serviced by such pipeline.
The Board, by a majority vote of its membership, ordered that a public hearing be conducted for the purpose of exploring the following:
CHARGES
That Roy Hebron, the brother of an appointed member of the Rapides Parish Waterworks District No. 3, may have violated Section 1113B of the Code of Governmental Ethics [La. R.S.42:1113B] by entering into transactions which were under the supervision and/or jurisdiction of his brother’s agency, the Rapides Parish Waterworks District No. 3, in the following manner to wit:
• by instructing the staff of the Rapides Parish Waterworks District No. 3 install a new water pipeline down a privately owned road to service his residence without the proper approval by the Board of Commissioners for the waterworks district while his brother served as an appointed member of such board and,
• subsequent to the installation of such pipeline, by the acceptance of the water line by the district’s Board of Commissioners into the water district system at the district’s expense when the line only serviced Mr. Hebron’s property.
The hearing will be held in the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency Building Board Room, 2415 Quail Drive, 1st Floor, Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 8, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. This public hearing will be conducted in accordance with the procedural requirements set forth in R.S. 18:1511.4C, provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act and in conformity with the Rules adopted by the Board, a copy of which is enclosed.
In order to fully cooperate with you in this matter, we will, upon request, provide you with copies of all documents we may introduce into evidence and the names and addresses of all witnesses we intend to call. If you desire the attendance of any witnesses, the Board can issue subpoenas for those witnesses. In order to have subpoenas issued you must, at least ten (10) days in advance of the hearing, supply the names and addresses of the persons to be subpoenaed and, if you would like the witnesses to produce documentation at the hearing, state in detail the document(s) to be produced and the reasons that the production of the documentation will be relevant and material.
If I can provide you with any additional information, please call Peggy A. Sabadie at (225) 763-8777 or (800) 842-6630.
Yours truly,

Anon 10;39;22 You respond to a question by saying that David donated to both campaigns and that the one who asked the question is an evil Roy supporter. Another question or two. Does one who contributes to both campaigns just want good government or need to be included in the loot handed out? Also, why is the person who questioned this activity a Roy supporter? Are they the only ones who question this type of activity?
How can anybody not be uncomfortable when huge city payees like David and Provosty kick in big bucks for the obvious reasons of: keeping their fixer in office; and keeping their fixer beholding to them. Looks like Billy Gunn is back on a sober streak and asking the right questions of the right people again. Looks like he is lunching with Nunnally (liquid lunch) and got good info from a great source.
Mind full,
Please divulge how “a republican [who] stops ovulating” shows herself as a “complete bitch.” I’m a "dead" cat already, so what’s a little curiosity?
"Persons who give prohibited gifts to public servants violate §1117 of the Code and are subject to the enforcement penalties for their violation"
Above is your posting posting
THE ACTUAL LAW NOTICE "ILLEGAL PAYMENTS NOTHING ABOUT GIFTS.
§1117. Illegal payments
No public servant or other person shall give, pay, loan, transfer, or deliver or offer to give, pay, loan, transfer, or deliver, directly or indirectly, to any public servant or other person any thing of economic value which such public servant or other person would be prohibited from receiving by any provision of this Part.
"ORIGINAL POSTING"
"Anonymous said...
I heard that Tommy David, of Pan American Engineers, is under investigation, by the State Ehtics Board, for illegally giving gifts to public officials."
NOW A PORTION OF MY ORIGINAL POSTING
Now before you get you panties in a wad you said gift. A bribe is a total manner. I can gift (seeing as how we have decided ebonics is ok on this website) and dayum public official I want and will not be breaking the law.
It would seem your comprehension of the English language is very limited and your research stopped short when you thought "Aha got the stupid SOB."
As stated previously I can attempt to gift any public employee I want to. The public employee cannot accept the gift. I cannot attempt to bribe the public employee. I believe my last paragraph stated it is illegal for my to try and bribe - give money to- a public employee.
Why do you display your lack of knowledge and intelligence for everyone to see?
YOU MAY NOTICE THE ACTUAL WORDING OF THE LAW DIFFERS GREATLY FROM THAT LITTLE CONDENSED VERSION YOU FOUND. NOTICE THE WORD GIFT AND NOTICE NO ONE BUT PUBLIC EMPLOYEES ARE MENTIONED
§1115. Gifts
A. No public servant shall solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, any thing of economic value as a gift or gratuity from any person or from any officer, director, agent, or employee of such person, if such public servant knows or reasonably should know that such person:
(1) Has or is seeking to obtain contractual or other business or financial relationships with the public servant's agency, or
(2) Is seeking, for compensation, to influence the passage or defeat of legislation by the public servant's agency.
B. No public employee shall solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, anything of economic value as a gift or gratuity from any person or from any officer, director, agent, or employee of such person, if such public employee knows or reasonably should know that such person:
(1) Conducts operations or activities which are regulated by the public employee's agency.
(2) Has substantial economic interests which may be substantially affected by the performance or nonperformance of the public employee's official duty
You should have noticed your little web site you copied and pasted said A SUMMARY of the ethics code.
Well since we're all on the ethics questions let me float this one -
Does it say anywhere that a person running for political office, who is on leave from he position as a public servant - can receive donations from persons who have contracts or have previously held contracts with her department?
Next question - why would it have to be Charlie Nunnally that Kelvin sought advice from? Is he the only attorney we have left in this town who has served as City Attorney?
§1155. Penalties for illegal gain; forfeiture of gifts, payments
A. If an investigation pursuant to R.S. 42:1141 reveals that any public servant or other person has violated any law within the jurisdiction of the board to his economic advantage, the board may order the payment of penalties. Recovery may include, in addition to an amount equal to such economic advantage, penalties not to exceed one half of the amount of the economic advantage. Any appeal of such order shall be to the Court of Appeal, First Circuit, pursuant to R.S. 42:1142.
B. The board is authorized to order the forfeiture of any gifts or payments made in violation of this Chapter.
"As you will recall, several on this Blog have previosuly posted that much of the corruption spoken of by local attorney, Greg Aymond, was a lie, and that all of those matters have been thoroghly investigated and dismissed. I do not recall ANYONE on this blog saying that an Ethics Board hearing had been conducted and Hebron found not guilty. I DO remember postings concerning allegations of CRIMINAL wrongdoing by Hebron. Those allegations have been investigated by numerous law enforcement agencies and no criminal activity was found to have occured. The statements concerning Greg Aymond and his lies, were directed at his assertions that Hebron engaged in CRIMINAL activity. He did not, and Aymond IS a liar.
If the Ethics Board finds that Hebron is guilty of any violation he will be fined, however there is a HUGE difference between un-ethical behavior and CRIMINAL activity.
Aymond sees black helicopters, conspiracies, government abuse, and corruption everywhere. He once stated that the City of Alexandria trash collection employees were acting in an un-ethical manner because they sometimes kept items for their personal use, that they found in the trash...
He is, without a doubt, a pathological liar.
Apart from the argument of whether or not the violation of an Ethics statute is a crime, from the allegations I have read concerning Hebron, I spot, off the top of my head, the following criminal violations:
15:832. Work by inmates; allowance
42:1461 the act of accepting such office or employment assume a
personal obligation not to misappropriate, misapply,
convert, misuse, or otherwise wrongfully take any funds,
property, or other thing of value belonging to or under the
custody or control of the public entity in which they hold
office or are employed.
14:120. Corrupt influencing
14:122. Public intimidation and retaliation
It would be interesting research and interesting research to see an accountability of her donations. Apparently it is legal to receive political contributions for all politicians build up their war chest.
So you legal eagles know, Tom David had a complaint filed against him with the ethics board because he was passing out Thanksgiving turkeys. Technically, it is a violation of ethics rules.
The actions that Greg Aymond has been decrying are criminal. The ethics board was the where the buck stopped after sliding down the slippery tube we call our justice system. Won't it be interesting to see malfeasance charges for all who passed their opportunity perform their duty under the law. After all, it is the interest of the public that they are sworn to protect.
If all of this Ethics stuff is true, why haven't we read about it in the newspapers or seen it on KALB? Where are the police on all of this?
That is the point of bringing it to your attention. You will have to ask the media and the police and the DA and anyone else that has the resposibility to look out for the public's interest, what they were doing.
Wouldn't Thanksgiving turkeys qualify as food or "edible" under the guidelines?
A prepared meal is edible - an unprepared turkey is a thing of value.
Food is a gift, but if consumed in the presence of the giver, it is an exception. And actually, I read, that it was pecans and a turkey one Christmas, with gifts given every Christmas. There was also allegations of trips to hunting lodges. I would imagine that David's gifts to Pineville, Alexandria and England Authority officials may have been a tad fancier
On an entirely different subject besides which camp said what and to whom and all the other speculations and fortune telling on the mayor's race, I would like to tell a story(as in tale, not lie).
Friday on Jackson St. Ext. a light changed to yellow and I slowed down and stopped. A car about a car length behind me in the other lane sped up and ran the red light. There was no hint of yellow left, it was red and had been a couple of sconds. As I thoght to myself" Where are the cops when idiots like this are on the road?", an APD car pulled up beside me at the red light.
This means that the APD officer was behind the obvious red light runner and done absolutely nothing. Unbelievable!
So maybe a new mayor that will clean house which would include a new chief of police is in order. Maybe even a chief that would actually encourage his officers to enforce the law especially when they happen right in front of thier face.
dead horse, part 2
you say jacques has quit talking to you; is he talking to anyone or has he had any fundraisers or anything?
A couple of years ago, a man was holding an armed robber at gunpoint here in Alexandria. It took the police 1hr and 15 mins to arrive, and after three telephone calls. The guy was holding the robber, at gunpoaint, on the sidewalk of a busy street. One cop car passed within 20 feet or so, heading toward Shipley's Donuts, and didn't stop. A true story.
Friday afternoon on Jackson St. Ext. a car beside me in the other lane ran a red light. No hint of yellow left, in fact he hit the gas and sped up in order to run the red light.
As I was thinking, where are the cops when idiots like this are on the road? A APD car pulled up beside at the red light. This means that the APD officer was right behind the person that ran the red light, and he did nothing. Unblievable!
So maybe a change is needed in the mayor's office and hopefully would include a chief of police that would encourage his officers to enforce the law. Especially when the law is broken right in front of thier face.
Spanky where can we find this information? There has been nothing on the Ethics Board agend for 2 years. I search opinions and rulings and couldn't find anything as well. I'm not saying it isn't there, just that I can't find it on the Louisiana Board of Ethics site.
Well I can't find where Tom David is in trouble, but I did find this and I think's it very timely and appropriate -
As reported in the 1Q 2005 report from the Ethics Board:
The Provosty Law Firm violated Section 1111C(2)(d) of the Code at a time when it served as counsel for the England Economic and Industrial Development District with respect to the termination of a sublease between the District and a subsidiary of CLECO and the firm received compensation for representing CLECO in unrelated matters. Albin Provosty, in his capacity as counsel for the District, violated section 112B of the Code by rendering advice and making a recommendation to the District with respect to the early termination of a sublease between a subsidiary of CELCO and the District, at a time when the Provosty Law Firm provided legal services and representation to CLECO in unrelated matters. 1111C(2)(d); 1112B No. 2003-109.
Wonder what they think about Albin being special councel to the Mayor of Alexandria and advising him to sue Cleco in regards to the trading scandal involving this same subsidiary?
You see, the building in question was leased by Cleco Midstream. The company that performed the trading of electrical power.
Did you see on the news about Jimmie Deramus and family. His son Chad died. What an awful thing to happen to a parent. They need our prayers..
Anon: Search the opinions and rulings section by choosing search at the top, and then type in the name you want. I believe that the Tommy David matter is not concluded as of yet. Interesting to just type in Alexandria, or Pineville and etc.. and see what you will find.
Biff, Sooth and others
I thought that this blog was anonymous but have found out that it is not. You can make an blog anonymous but it must be set up differently I am told. You can find IP addresses on antics site. I am not an expert so I address this to someone who is. How can we protect our identity on this blog?
I support neither - I was referring to the statement pertaining to Delores' ad being picked up nationally. Someone said, something to the effect, do you really want light shed upon your name as a contributor. That sounds like intimidation to me.
I thought we had already established that there is not indicator of IP addresses on this blog. I would like to know if that is true or not.
If the blog moderator wanted to, he could set up a Stat Counter that would record all hits and could trace them to specific servers (not specific users).
But currently, Cenla Antics does not have a Stat Counter on it. You can confirm this by typing Control-U to view the page's source.
My blog does have a StatCounter, but I cannot trace users to IP addresses. (I think you may need a court order to do something like that).
Lamar - I love ya honey, but this picture you're using needs to go. Totally not flattering. You look better than that. Please, change it.
I think the "gift" question was with reference to David and no he cannot give a turkey. Hebron - oth - are public officials and both - a;;edgl;y violated ethics code.
You can only "give" a public official that "food" that can be consumed at the meal. He/She canot get a go box.
I’ll give it another shot, Mind full. Please divulge how “a republican [who] stops ovulating” shows herself as a “complete bitch.”
When the female stops ovulating is this considered the "change of life?" If so, party affiliation is immaterial.
Answer:
She doesn't always show herself but she is always a complete bitch.
Sorry about the double post earlier. My computer timed out and I did not realize that the first post went through. I do not want to beat a dead horse, but the APD and Rapides Sheriff dept. really need to start enforcing traffic laws, such as running red lights, speeding, illegal lane changes without signaling, etc. The city and parish are becoming more crowded with more traffic and enforcing the laws will insure a smoother and safer flow of traffic.
"The guy was holding the robber, at gunpoaint, on the sidewalk of a busy street. One cop car passed within 20 feet or so, heading toward Shipley's Donuts, and didn't stop. A true story. "
The guy should have popped off a couple of rounds into the ground....
THEN, not only would the APD responded, the Pineville, Ball and RPSO would have sent ALL AVAILABLE UNITS.....CODE 3!!!
Of course, they would have initially looked for the cat in the tree....
!
There is no traffic enforcement downtown. Huge delivery trucks park to load and unload in the central turn lane and there is no safe way to cross the street if you and the oncoming traffic can't see each other. I called and talked to the Lt. in charge of traffic and he basically said "tough".
I wonder if the free gift stuff covers discount and free meals police recieve around town?
And I suppose the Democratic woman who has stopped ovulating is a complete Angel???? Hmmmmm???? NOT!
If you are talking about the skinny blond balding motorcycle riding Lt. over the traffic division, he is the perfect argument against police civil service. He has no respect for the law and even less for the people he is paid to protect and serve. I am told that he was once worth a shit. Must be a while back.
Anon 12:10:04 PM, does that apply, as well, to Democrats, Greens, SWPs, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Reformers and Independents?
It may but that phenomenon has only been scientifically documented in blue-haired 2-named republican chrones. We may need more research.
Not a complete angel but horny as hell all the time. You go girl
Well hell, I may need to inquire as what she's been drinking.
They drink Boost with a splash of prune juice, a little Viagra, and two tylonols: the call it an "Integrity Raper" (formerly known as the "Shit and Get"). Have one on me.
lmao@boost. that sure brings back memories. our grandmother bought it by the case.
If you gave a can of boost to a kid it was child abuse. It was loaded with sugar and fat. The prune juice and viagra must cut it a little. If that doesn't work, might try a little Spanish Fly on her Melba Toast.
"Lamar - I love ya honey, but this picture you're using needs to go. Totally not flattering. You look better than that. Please, change it."
Don't listen to this person.
The picture is cool because it looks like you're reading the above comment, and you look just fine.
They're just trying to crawl under your skin. If they really loved you, they'd tell you in person about your photo-- and not on a blog.
2-named; same-named; nicknamed; whatever. All I can imagine is you must have had a serious run-in with Mrs. 2-name. Been there; done that. Frankly, I know very few in this town who haven’t. Snicker…
from the Town Talk update this afternoon:
The family of Chad DeRamus issued this statement today:
"We appreciate the outpouring of care and concern that we have received from the community since the news of the plane crash. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers.
"For the next few days, we ask that you respect our need for privacy and our need to grieve and begin to adjust to this tragedy."
It's ironic that both planes that crashed in Grant Parish were coming from Missouri

Regarding the ethics code on gifts to public officials. That is a new law passed by the legislature. It was a part of Blanco's packabe of bills a couple of Legislative Sessions ago. Public officials previously could accept gifts such as turkeys for the holidays. That changed last year after the new law went into effect. Now, gifts to public officials must have the company logo on it, i.e., a paperweight or ink pen, clock, etc. Anything like that is fine. Food gifts must be eaten on site, i.e., taking public officials out to dinner. Lobbyists must report dinners and the value of that or any gift over $50 in one day to the Ethics Board.
Those of you who are thinking Brewer's gawd awful spot and the grass roots stuff the blue-hairs are doing will get her elected are missing some important info. It wouldn't change anything if she got the best strategist in the country in here and put the best spots in the world on (which ain't the case). Voter demographics are the problem for Mrs. Brewer. Though I agree that Mr. Roy cannot become complacent, I predict that he will win and win big on Nov. 7 due to 1) the demographics of the city (blacks may vote light, but they'll vote for him 2) the fact that he's got a message and is a good speaker 3) got a surprising amount of white vote on Sept. 30 that he will retain 4) and last but certainly not least--lack of anything negative enough on him to make a difference. Plus, the tv commercial she's running right now actually helps him rather than hurts him. Everywhere I go, women tell me they think it's just horrible.
You are assuming voters will turn out. They may be extremely turned off.
Same outcome happens in a low turn out, IMHO. Roy gets more of those who do turn out. He'll have more get out the vote effort, too.
I spoke to three women in Alexandria today. All three may be considered "blue hairs". All three told me that they plan to vote for Jacques Roy. All three said the "rape victim" commercial was the deciding factor in their decision.
It may be as simple as Delores messed up. I am voting for Roy and I am going to be at the polls on November 7th.
Yikes! I finally got to see THE COMMERCIAL today. Geez, it is worse than described. Just reading the transcript doesn't convey how awful it is. Will Brewer please explain how Roy attacked her? Will Brewer please explain how Roy "disrespected" our community? All I got out of it was that she is a rape victim, that that experience has supposedly made her stronger and she is now upset because Roy has attacked her integrity. Seems to me she is something of a whinner! Brewer, in case you should win, you may need to buy some asbestos panties because the Alexandria City Council will have you in a hot seat!
I was the one with the dire warnings yesterday. I was concerned by what we didn't know. Today I talked to 2 activist republican women (mid-40s) and they said that they personally and their friends and family were turned off and offended by the Brewer rape spot. They originally thought that a woman mayor would be a wonderful thing but they all emphatically agree that it better not be this woman.
Changed last year my Ass. Go read the law and see how long it has been on the books.
Anon 5:05:28: You are wrong my friend. The gift law has been in effect for years, and there is no exemption based upon that gift's value.
A. No public servant, excluding any legislator and any appointed member of any board or commission and any member of a governing authority of a parish with a population of ten thousand or less, or member of such a public servant's immediate family, or legal entity in which he has a controlling interest shall bid on or enter into any contract, subcontract, or other transaction that is under the supervision or jurisdiction of the agency of such public servant.
B. Other than a legislator, no appointed member of any board or commission, member of his immediate family, or legal entity in which he has a substantial economic interest shall bid on or enter into or be in any way interested in any contract, subcontract, or other transaction which is under the supervision or jurisdiction of the agency of such appointed member.
Doesn't the above seem to fit the two Brewer's interactions with the housing authority?
The Brewer supporters that were on this blog is distinctively absent. Have they finally conceded?
I think this may be the "effect" that Delores Brewer was looking for with her controversial ad.

Of course, Claire McCaskill is smart enough to know NOT to hire Fletcher.....

How can KALB, the Town Talk and the Northside Journal have any credibility at all to claims of accurate and unbiased news reporting, not reporting all of these ethical findings? Maybe Michelle Goddard can answer that, as we know she reads this blog? I know I've heard of other reports from the Ethical Board, so does the news pick and choose who it will report on?
As to the Brewer ethics question, the best was to find out if its a violation is to report it. Lots of talk from people, but little action. You do have to have a set of balls to file an ethical complainnt, because they no longer accept anonymous ones. If you send it notorized and to the public servant it takes less votes of the Ethics Board to investigate.
According to the Oct. 16 Newsweek, Rodney lied to the St. Petersburg Times in November of 2005 saying that was he was "unaware of the matter" concerning Foley's e-mails even though he had referred the "matter" to Speaker Hastert's office just after Katrina. Is he free-falling in a "crash & burn"?
Is Carol Lanier still on the Alexandria Housing Authority? What is it with Brewer and that Housing Authority? I guess with Lanier for her chief of staff, she can finally get all of her family contracts with that Authority?
"I guess with Lanier for her chief of staff, she can finally get all of her family contracts with that Authority?"
We will never know......
!
I know this is heresy on this board, but I swear, in talking to some of my employees today, they are actually reconsidering DB. They said that they think DB, by sharing her misery, will be tougher on crime than JR. I am stunned and amazed, but this stupid ad seems to have done her some good.
"I am stunned and amazed, but this stupid ad seems to have done her some good."
Please keep believing that!
I have heard comments to that effect and have the scraping and bruising from banging my head on the sidewalk to prove it.
I seem to recall reading in the TT that a proper official with the state commented that DB did not break any rules bidding on the AHA contract.
That's ridiculous. The rape spot is NOT working to move any significant numbers to Brewer. It has turned droves of women and men OFF. But hey, Brewer supporters, keep believing in it all you want. Just be prepared to be let down on Nov. 7.
If Delores Brewer is so "dead in the water", why do you people keep fidgeting and fussing over her ad, her ethics and the little old blue-haired ladies in the Republican Women? I don't believe for one minute that two "very active" middle aged Republican Women said they were going to vote for Roy due to her ad. MG maybe, but he was going to vote for him anyway......and it has nothing to do with Roy's qualifications.
Guess we all have to be for Delores now because Carol Lanier says he is best qualified to choose our next mayor. Maybe when she loses, Brewer and Lanier can run the Housing Authority together and Mr. Brewer can sell em some more insurance. David Brewer can do some appraisals and the Brewer kids can mow the lawns. It could be one, big, happy family.
That ridiculous!!!! That ad is NOT working ...NOT WORKING...NOT WORKING!!!! Keep saying it over and over again and then maybe you'll believe it :-).
The answer to your question,
10:16:33--
Because she keeps giving us such great stuff to work with. When she stops inserting her foot in her mouth we'll stop posting about her.
Do you think that the public realizes that the lawyers are beginning to control everything. Everything in Washington, in the states and now trying to do so in the cities. No wonder everything is so damned screwed up. They use all of this "legal speak" so we don't understand any of the laws, contracts or resolutions and try to slip everything right by us. Maybe it's time for some down to earth regular people to be elected again.
10:22 Now that's a very poor answer. Are we a little tired tonight?
Lamar,
Someone is jealoues...I think your picture is perfect!!
not our fault your a dumbass. Lawyers, btw, make up less than 1/3 of the louisiana legislature. Dumbass laws mostly passed by dumbass farmers.
Now that's hard to believe.
Anon on point A Rapides Parish has a population of more than 10,000 so that doesn't apply.
Point B - John Brewer not Delores Brewer were an appointed member to a board or commission with whom they were trying to solicit work from so that really doesn't apply either.
I can see where you're looking. A better question would be can the Port of Alexandria use Brewer for insurance since he's a commissioner? Honestly, I don't know who they have their insurance with, but it might be worth a call to find out.
"Do you think that the public realizes that the lawyers are beginning to control everything. Everything in Washington, in the states and now trying to do so in the cities. I really don't understand this. Politicans write and enforce laws, and although we may not agree with many of the laws that are passed, at the very least, we should recognize the value of being represented by someone who KNOWS THE LAW.
At this juncture, I believe Alexandria is particularly in need of someone who knows the law and is beholden to a strict code of professional ethics.
Well, obviously Civil, you're associating with the wrong type of people. You must be hanging out with those "horny as hell" Dem women.
Ok Lamar - if politicians are enforcing the laws then why do we have all those guys in uniforms running around with blue lights, canines and hand cuffs? Politicians may write and pass the laws, still more politicians sign them to be enacted. Judges, usually political appointments interpret them and apply them, but it's some poor lowly civil servant who puts his or her life on the line everyday who has to enforce the damn things. Then we have attorneys who get to defend their interpretation and applicability over the other's interpretation and applicability, both based on that same interpretation from the political appointed or elected judge.
I do agree whole heartedly that we definitely need someone who understands all of this to run the City. At least someone who can read and contract and the Charter well enough to know they can't negate a contract without Council approval and of course, an exit clause in the contract. :-))
You're right, of course. By enforce, I meant "execute." I hope not to be engaged in a semantic argument because I believe both of us probably agree on the basic issue.
As for as those attorney contracts, any fee charged by an attorney must be reasonable and based upon the actual amount of work performed. As was previously pointed out, the Office of Disiplinary Counsel is where to complain if some lawyer associated with the City obtains a fee without doing any work, or charge a fee inapropriate for the the the amount of work done.
In principle yes, but remember, most lawmakers have staff who actually perform the wordsmithing when it comes to creating the legal verbiage that gives us all headache in attempting to understand what it is they are trying to say. And I wouldn't exactly criticize dumb farmers in the legislature either. We happen to have a few from around here who have done quite well for us in "bringing home the bacon."
Interestingly, since the Brewer ad first aired, I’ve only run into one who has wandered off the Brewer reservation. That person, once a tepid Brewer supporter at best anyway, doesn’t plan to vote for either candidate. Granted, many Brewer supporters are disgusted, but will vote for her, even so. Consequently, it’s not prudent to assume that disgust automatically translates into a vote for Roy.
Another tidbit: Many African-American “blue hairs” are intrigued by Brewer, but problems with the mere notion of voting for a woman still persist. The current ad, however, appears to be softening that stance.
I have run into no less than 20 people who are so turned off they are not voting for Brewer because of the ad.
Yes anon, and a few of those farmers, like DeWitt, who also feathered their own nests. Search good old Charlie's name in the Ethics website.
See. That's what concerned me. I think Dizzy has the most reasonable explainaton for the Brewer ad. The pros think it is doing it's job where and how and to whom it is suppose to reach. If you don't like Brewer you absolutely hate the ad but what about the people that like Brewer or don't like Roy? We need more insight from Dizzy instead of us marginal types.
WARNING! I think Dizzy is a certified 2-namer crone and is sent to create havoc and concern among our tribe. The fact it, however, I think her warnings are valid and logical. Just because you shouldn't list your your house with her does not mean it would be wise to ignore her words of caution.
No, what we need is a poll. That would provide info on whether the ad is having any effect, either negative or positive. 20 - 30 people who post on a blog can't possibly know the full effect of this by talking to a handful of people.
" How can KALB, the Town Talk and the Northside Journal have any credibility at all to claims of accurate and unbiased news reporting, not reporting all of these ethical findings? Thanks for that post Tubby. BTW why don't you use your real name anymore Greggy?
IMHO, Fletcher will spread the rumor that the ad is moving numbers down for Roy and up for Brewer...Doesn't mean that's really true. You watch--no one will actually SEE a copy of polling. But IMHO, these bogus numbers will be used as a carrot to bilk more $ out of Brewer supporters so she can run more tv commercials. Fletcher freely admits he'll do or say anything in a campaign. IMHO, he cannot be trusted to tell the truth about the numbers. Of course, the only numbers that count will be votes on election day.
IS THERE GOING TO BE A MAYORAL DEBATE ON CHANNEL 5? I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT IT. CHANNEL 5 SHOULD SET A DATE AND NOTIFY THE 2 CANDIDATES. IF ONE OR THE OTHER DOESN;T SHOW, THEN TOUGH. THE CITIZENS HAVE A RIGHT TO HEAR FROM THE TWO CANDIDATES WHO SAY THEY WANT OUR VOTE ON NOV. 7. IF KALB WON;T DO IT, KLAX SHOULD DO IT LIVE FROM THEIR STUDIO. THAT WOULD ONE UP THE BIG GUY ON THE BLOCK REAL GOOD.
maybe the media doesn't take one of the candidates seriously anymore. but hey, it would be must see tv, so i hope they reconsider.
The latest Brewer ad is an act of desperation on the part of the Brewer faithful. Roy Fletcher does not care if Brewer wins or not, as long as he gets paid. Regardless of what ad runs, Brewers numbers are reflective of die hard supporters who will not be swayed from her camp.
Survey says…Polls are useless at this stage. The voters have resorted to lying to pollsters just to get off the phone. Brewer will lose more votes than she will gain in the coming weeks. Bottom line…Roy is the next mayor of Alexandria.
The feathers and bones have spoken.
Just a thought...since the results of the mayor's race seems to be pre-determined, perhaps we should turn our discussion to the entrenched bureaucrats who populate city hall and what course Roy will take to remove them.
Who will go...and when?
Thoughts anyone???
Roy's options were severely reduced, practically and emotionally, when we returned all of the city council regulars. Not only do those guys have the real power, they can't also point to real public support. If it's up the council then its up to Myron and Myron is just a bad guy. Bridget says she ain't going anywhere because if they try to fire her or Kevin, the council will shut down the operation of the whole city. Does Myron love Bridget that much? It remains to be seen.
Roy will be much better than Brewer but we blew our big chance on the Council races and we lost big opportunities there.
LOL, Anon 8:09:27!
Let’s see, I have four names: first, middle, maiden and my husband’s last name (BTW, no hyphen). Only my mother, when, as a youngster, I misbehaved, ever used my first and middle names together. Eeuw! Ow!
As for being a crone, that is beginning to have some appeal. I just might give it a try!
I don’t dare try to list someone’s house, though. The Board of Realtors certainly would give me an “Ow!” for that.
OK, Dizzy, I believe you. I just had to smoke you out with my spy tricks. I apologize. Could I obtain a sample of your thumb print?
anyone hear bout a certain female state rep havin a relationsip w/ a man from alex? no, it can't be true.
No, but I've heard about lots of male legislators having fun and games outside the marriage thru the years. Guess it gets lonely down there in capitol city.
“[W]e blew our big chance on the Council races and we lost big opportunities there.”
You got that right, Anon 9:59:18 AM.
Trickster 10:13:37 AM, my thumbs are opposable - well, sometimes, anyway – and too busy for printing.
Hall Monitor,
How about allowing for a strike HTML tag? Growl. I’m lovin’ this crone thing…
Oh, Sweet Jesus! KALB has just announced that Blanco has appointed Brigitte Brown to a board to distribute funds recived from the tobacco companies. What in the hell was Blanco thinking? Does she have any idea about who she appoints? Any guess as to how much Brigitte will reap out of this deal. I think Blanco may have just kissed re-election good-bye.
we thought that it was already established that gov blanco is a weak sorry excuse for a governor? can anyone name any decision that the governor has made that has made sense?
Bridgett Brown
I also found this.
Damn, the links didn't work.

its okay dizzy keep trying you'll get the hang of it. ^5
AP reports that insurance companies have and continue to rip off Katrina victim policy holder. They are also more apt to rip off the poor and Black, the report says. Read at: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&u=/ap/20061024/ap_on_re_us/katrina_insurance_2
Using the Brewer logic of connecting the dots with CLECO, Delores, whose husband sells insurance, disrespects the State by ripping off Katrina victims, especially Blacks.
Okay, give us some hints on the state rep doing the Alex dude! Where is the rep from, north or south, east or west? Is she a semi babe or bow wow? What about the suitor? Is he a stud or a dud?
Wonder who V&V Properties are?
I believe V&V is Harold Chambers brother in law. He sold you the first proposed utility building know as Jakes.
V & V PROPERTIES, INC.
HAROLD J. VERCHER, JR.
CHARLES WAYNE VOLLMAN
IMAGE ONE REALTY, L.L.C.
hey 1:19:12 p.m. I heard (this is all second and third hand) she's from central la. region (not rapides parish) and is smart and pretty. Dude is in medical field. Probably not true anyway. If ya'll ain;t heard about it.
I can't find anything about
Bridgett Brown being appointed to something by the Gov. Where can I read about it? Looked on KALB and The TT.
I have heard that Rep. Monica Walker is from Central Louisiana area, is pretty, smart and she is involved in the medical field. If true, does that mean anything?
The guy in question is in the medical field.
copy and paste those two links provided by dizzy. they both work - one is to a story on kalb and the other link is to the board that ms brown was appointed to - its membership list.
Nevermind, I found the KALB-TV story about Bridgett Brown. Guess she'll have a say on doling out millions of tobacco settlement dollars. We could use some of that in cenla.
Gov. has to C her A with blacks OUTSIDE of New Orleans since so many have gone away from the region post Katrina. She and Landrieu are going to suffer from lack of that huge NO base they counted on in the past. Makes sense from a political standpoint for her to appoint Brown.
when are these idiot politicians going to stop playing politics and start doing whats right?
Hey, our political system ain't great, but it's better than every other one on the planet.
They're gonna start doing what's right when we demand that from them. When we start electing the kind of people we want to represent us and hold them accountable. Until then, they're gonna keep acting in accordance with political motivation.
I predict Jindal will clean Blanco's clock in the gubernatorial election next year. That is if the Bubba's will forgive his dark skin and vote for him this time rather than the "good ole girl."
ol piyush is no better. hes a proven traitor to the constitution and the bill of rights. you are just trading one crook for another.
Now wait a minute. I don't think either one is a crook. You may disagree with their positions, votes, leadership, etc. But a crook steals. I don't think that describes either one. Ridiculous.
stealing our freedom is just as treacherous as stealing anything else if not more so.
Bobby Jindal is anything but a crook. of course we saw that thinks any republican is a crook. i promise you had bobby been in office instead of the cry ass queen bee, New Orleans would be a hell of alot further along in recovery. Say what you want you know damn well there were plenty of people that voted against him b/c he was a non-white. I guess you could say that election was progress. it was just a matter of which prejudice people were going to turn loose of 1st. Prejudice against a female in office or a minority.
V&V were cited in the auditor's report for receiving funds "illegally" from the city
Someone explain to me why the City settled and paid the 3 who were fired by the Mayor please
We Saw That said:
when are these idiot politicians going to stop playing politics and start doing whats right?
Asnwer: Never, We Saw That, until we, the people, stop acting like mindless sheep and start doing something about it. Perhaps our politicians should recall Thomas Jefferson's words to King George, in the Declaration of Independence, paying special attention to the alter or abolish part. A poll would show most all voters are opposed to political graft and corruption, but few are willing to do anything about it.
Hey, our political system ain't great, but it's better than every other one on the planet.
Exactly what studies do you base that profound statement upon? Have you studied the political syetems of all countries on Earth? Perhaps you could cite us a few scholarly works which you relied upon, so we can read this for ourselves?
we voted for mee maw and against ol piyush simply because we didnt feel it was in louisiana's best interest to have a republican governor giving even more power to the bush crime family. ol piyush's skin color had nothing to do with it. has governor blanco been a disaster for this state yes of course she has and we can admit that. if we could go back in time we wouldnt have cast a vote for either one of them.
"we" as in you or "we" as in all the idiots that voted for the cry baby b/c they didn't want to vote for someone with a "dot on thier forehead". and you liberals say republicans are the racist.
errr we thought we said that we didnt vote for ol piyush because he is a republican not because of his race etc.
btw how do you republican hypocrits explain the fact that ol piyush just like david vitter or vittles as we call him are both just like ~shock~ bill clinton - rhodes scholars? rhodes scholars are new world order/one world government adherents.
lew rockwell snip:
Shortly before the turn of the last century, Cecil Rhodes, the British diamond tycoon who had operated for years in South Africa, willed a significant portion of his huge fortune to the establishment of a secret society in England. Its purpose was to lay the foundations for world government, under the theory that world government alone could bring about world peace and security for all. The Rhodes Scholarship program at Oxford University was drawn from this fortune as an effort to bring the "best and the brightest" under the influence of a certain body of ideas. Bill Clinton, of course, was a Rhodes Scholar for a while (although he didn’t complete the program). Many other influential politicians, journalists, and writers in the English-speaking world have been Rhodes Scholars.
Jesus - This guy is conspiracy nut! We....I think you've totally creeped out on us.
so you didnt vote for him simply b/c he is a republican. go idea. i am a registered republican that has vote for jacques and will again. its not all about party lines, its about ideas and solutions to problems, but hell, you are so smart you probably already know that.
lol joe yeah we have noticed that about alexander as well and have been disturbed by it. in fact we wondered when someone on here would pick up on it and mention it. looks like you won the prize :-P why would you in good conscience vote for a proven criminal and traitor like rodney alexander? none of the other candidates could do worse than alexander has done. so why would you possibly support a criminal?
"Support a criminal, and you support crime
When you buy tables from a carpenter who lies or cheats, you are denying money to a carpenter who is honest. Eventually the honest carpenters will be driven to bankruptcy, and all that will remain are the dishonest and incompetent carpenters." ~ eric hufschmid
We saw that - Please tell me how Rodney Alexander is a criminal. Please don't tell me it's because he voted for the Patriot Act. Just the facts please.
I am a Democrat also. I just can't remember the last time I voted for one. I think it's time for a change.
We Saw That, buy the best table at the best price. That way the marketplace serves to promote the good tablemakers and eliminate the lesser ones.
That statement about the carpenters is what's wrong with our society. It should absolutely be survival of the fittest.
we've written about rodney alexander and others on here extensively. look in other threads as it would be a rehash on our part and many on here probably wouldnt appreciate that. its at the point at least as far as we are concerned that if you can live with yourself knowing that someday you will have to give account of your support for alexander and others despite what proof thats in plain sight and in your face then so be it. the bible says that towards the end of the age god would send a strong delusion that many even the elect would believe a lie rather than the truth and thats what we see happening in america and around the world today. the delusion that god has sent is such that its purpose is to separate the wheat from the tares because only those that do not have a knowledge of the true word of god are the ones that believe the lie.
we saw that would rather have the gov't subsidize the struggling furniture maker.
Oh for Christ's sakes We Saw That...give us the proof that Rodney Alexander is a criminal or keep your mouth shut.
please capitalize God
We Saw That you were not talking about a lie earlier when you said Rodney Alexander was a proven criminal. Now....come clean with the facts or you are proven to be a blowhard rumor monger.
and we said that we have written about it in other threads so go look for it.
Now that is a total copout.
I find it utterly dispicable that someone would use their rape as a campaign tool. The only thing worse than some one who cries false rape is one who uses it to their advantage......
aww thanks civil. in the words of that philosopher/songstress dolly parton:
its hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world
lol
Why should someone have to go look for proof of such an accusation? If you absolutely know that he is a "proven criminal", wouldn't you know what the crime was?
It should absolutely be survival of the fittest.
Oh like the exploding Ford Pintos, or Enron, or even child labor and sweat shops? Some assholes cannot be counted on to act right.
what part of "we've written about it before so look it up" dont you understand?
This is ridiculous, we saw that. Total loss of credibility as far as I'm concerned.
Well We Saw That, at least you attract such intelligent detractors, that are such strong patriots, especially in their support of freedom of specch and thought. Listen up We Saw That critics, Pavlov is calling you to dinner.
Copied from CentralLaPolitics:
Finally, on October 24, 2006, KALB reporter Babs Zimmerman, reported
on the ongoing 2 year old Mayor Roy Hebron waterline scandal. This
inadeqaute report is flawed in the following particulars:
1). This report definately was not timely, with the Ethics Board
having issued this consent opinion almost 2 weeks ago, on October
12, 2006.
2). Absolutely no mention has been made of the September 28, 2006,
announcement of offical charges, by the Ethics Board, against Ball
Mayor Roy Hebron and the setting of his public hearing for February
8, 2007, in Baton Rouge.
3). Babs reported: "At issue was whether Waterworks District Three
could run a line to a home being built by the mayor without proper
legal documents." However that is not the reasons given by the
Ethics Board. The actual charges against Mayor Hebron are:
CHARGES
That Roy Hebron, the brother of an appointed member of the Rapides
Parish Waterworks District No. 3, may have violated Section 1113B of
the Code of Governmental Ethics [La. R.S.42:1113B] by entering into
transactions which were under the supervision and/or jurisdiction of
his brother's agency, the Rapides Parish Waterworks District No. 3,
in the following manner to wit:
• by instructing the staff of the Rapides Parish Waterworks District
No. 3 install a new water pipeline down a privately owned road to
service his residence without the proper approval by the Board of
Commissioners for the waterworks district while his brother served
as an appointed member of such board and,
• subsequent to the installation of such pipeline, by the acceptance
of the water line by the district's Board of Commissioners into the
water district system at the district's expense when the line only
serviced Mr. Hebron's property.
What Roy's brother, Wes Hebron, consnted to having done wrong was:
"It is the opinion of the Board that Wes Hebron violated Section
1112B of the Code of Governmental Ethics by participating and voting
to initiate an investigation into the water line running to his
brother's property, voting to whether to accept or reject payment
from his brother, and voting on the acceptance of the water line
which serviced his brother's property. Section 1112B prohibits a
public servant from participating in any matter in which his
immediate family member has a substantial economic interest. Roy
Hebron clearly had a substantial economic interest in a water line
which was run to his property and which appears to have only
benefitted him. Therefore, Wes Hebron was prohibited from
participating in such matters when they came before his board for
consideration."
As you can see, there is absolutely no mention that this was
mere "without proper legal documents", as Babs tried to play it down
to.
4). Lastly, Babs reported that"Eventually, the water line became
legal after the mayor followed proper procedures.". Where exactly
did you get that brilliant legal opion from Babs? Not from District
Attorney Jam Downs, who advised, in a 2004 letter, that the public
funds expended should be recouped by the Water District. As the
Ethics Board wrote to Mayor Hebron: "...district's Board of
Commissioners accepted such pipeline into the water district system
at the district's expense at a time when you were the only landowner
serviced by such pipeline."
As you will recall, Babs laughed at me over the telephone, when I
offered her signed witness statements and photographs of Roy Hebron
using Town of Ball equipment and employees, together with State
inmate labor, on the construction of his new home. Babs, nor any
other so-called reporter, has expressed any interest in this
evidence. Although pressure must have finally forced Babs to
inaccuratly report as little as she did, her bias toward covering up these matters continues to be obvious.
I hoe Waterworks District 3 never disappears. What in the world will Aymonds have to rant and rave about? Aymonds we see through your posing as anonymous. Give it a break. You are actually beginning to appear mentlly deranged by your fixation and anger at those folks.
In other words Aymond, better known as Anonymous STFU.

Wow, yet another example of thoughful and intelligent debate of ideas.
