18 Days Left!!

The age of 18 in our society has been deemed the age of majority. Time for frivolity is dimished as we enter the "adult" world. Eighteen days are left until decisions are made for Council seats and Mayor. Please take time to calm yourselves and make a serene and educated decision before entering the voting booth. I have voted for several individuals who personally I did not care for, but none the less did the job for which they ran. They continue to receive my vote.

Your children are leaving, businesses are closing, the employment base leaves much to be desired and you complain on trivialities. These are the questiond that need to be answered: WHO will do what needs to be done? WHO will do so in an EFFECTIVE manner? AND WHO will stand and state "Althought the decision was a bad one, I made it" THIS is the individual you elect.

Good Luck Cenla.

How many of you feel we have a substantial crime problem? And if you do feel that way, does it affect the attractiveness of our community to retain our young people and others that might move here? I guess the primary question is, "What population size would you like to see Alexandria grow to?"

If I may ask a question because I am checking my memory, did not Harry Silver say he would not run for the council seat if he was appointed to fill Rick Ransons's vacancy? If so, I am curious as to why it is so important for him to win this seat if he was initially filling in to help the community. He is taking it very seriously as he has opened a campaign headquarters and has had the likes of Martin Johnson visit him in his new digs. I am thinking that somehow the percieved value to Harry has escalated tremendously. If that is the case, I wonder what is in store for the district he represents and how badly we will all be sold out? Is it possible that at his age he is for sale? Any thoughts will be welcome as I cannot quite figure this one out.

Anonymous said...

I heard Harry Silver's grandson Michael is taking Mark Lampert's grandaughter Sarah to Bolton's homecoming dance. Sounds like a political scandal is brewing.

Anonymous said...

I don't know from scandal, what I want to know is why the about face and the support of "garden district elite" going to Harry. Why is he skinflint turned golden boy all of a sudden?

Anonymous said...

from mr silver's video blog:

michele godard: "did you promise that you werent going to run for the seat because you were actually appointed in place of rick ranson...?"

mr silver replied "i was appointed at the behest of the council after they asked for names be submitted from which they selected my name they mentioned the fact that they would have a person that would fulfill that term i was not a party to that condition...i never have run this is the first time"

Greg Aymond said:
"If you need an example of corruption, you need look no farther that Tommy David, Jr. of Pan American Engineers. He gave gifts, hunting trips and food (while he is not present)to public servants and elected officials that he gets business from. All of that, of course, is unethical and a violation of law. Tommy believes that all is fair in business with public bodies, and practices that notion in a multi-parish area. I guess that those gifts are pretty good too, as he didn't catch much flack for the hooking the sewer lines up to the water in Pineville."

OK Greg you little fat tub...name one, just one citation David received from any investigation the ethics board conducted...C'mon tubby, just name one! Fact is you can't.
See everybody, old Greggy here is famous for making allegations he cannot prove, like the tapes he claims he has on Rich Dupree. Fact is Greg is a liar, the tapes don't exist, and Tom David has never been cited for unethical practices by any one, it all a product of tubby Greg's twisted mind. He even lied about the editor of TNJ and said he supplied him with evidence of an illegal water line in Ball. The water line fiasco occurred in May of 2004 and TNJ did not publish their first paper until 3 months later. Aymonds is nothing but a slimy, wretched, tubby little snail. He's a liar of the first order and nothing, NOTHING that comes from his mouth is truth.

Here's an open challenge to you fatso. You have your own website on Yahoo, but you claim there isn't enough space for you to post the "evidence" you claim to have. Aside from the fact that this too is a lie, I challenge you to spend the $7.95 it would cost to bump your site's storage capacity to a gig. That will give to plenty of space to post the .wav files of the tapes you have and any PDF you might have of other proof. C’mon tubby, put up or shut up! C’mon Greggy, we’re all waiting…PUT UP OR SHUT UP GREG!

See folks, nothing but silence from tubby little Gregory…because he’s a liar.

Greg, do us all a favor and just leave Cenla, the stench of your fat, putrid body is worse than the paper mill.

Anonymous said...

To Soothsayer and Anon, I do need to be watched. Because if you are an unethical politician or break the law, and I find out about it, I will report it. If anything I say is untrue, why have I not been sued for slander? Additionaly, as to the Tommy David gufts, did you know that the State Board of Ethics has sent the Cities of Alexandria and Pineveille, Rapides Parish Waterworks District No. 3, and the England Authority letters of caution not to accept gifts from David?
Bottom line is, whether you like it or not, I will continue to expose any political corruption I discover or comes to my attention. I do not limit myself to the North side of the River, I simply have more information from that area. So shame on you, those who support crooked politicians. It would seem that you would have learned that no amount of name calling, lies about me, or even telling the truth amout me, will deter me from exposing misuse of public funds, violation of ethics or other laws, by our elected officials. Once again, if anything I say is untrue, sue me for slander and give me the chance to present the proof.

You will notice the post that called me "tubby" and "slimy", doesn't that qualify as a personal attack? Just wanted to see if you enforce it to all, as I am not that worried about some gutless wonders who insult me anonymously. And are some here opposed to free political speech and discussion of violation of laws? Perhaps that is the reason that we have many of the problems with local government that is discussed on this blog?

October 21, 2005 NewsSection: 01, 05APage: named to City CouncilSilver Billy Gunn By Billy Gunn bgunn@thetowntalk.com (318) 487-6378

Quickly and with no discussion, the Alexandria City Council on Thursday nominated and passed 6-0 the appointment of local merchant to fill the unexpired term of former District 4 Councilman Rick Ranson. , 83, owner of Weiss & Goldring and long a name in civic causes, said he wants "to see what's on the (council's) plate" before he spells out what he wants to accomplish. will be sworn in at the regular council meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday. "I happen to be in love with the city of Alexandria," said after Thursday's vote. would not say if he'll run in next fall's regular election. "I think it's premature" to discuss a run next year, he said. "I haven't even been sworn in yet." However, two councilmen said after the Thursday meeting that has pledged not to run for election next year. Harry Silver"I was looking for somebody who wasn't running" next year, said council President Charles F. Smith Jr. At-large Councilman Myron Lawson confirmed 's pledge and said, "We wanted someone who would bring some flavor (to the council) and also someone who would not run." Both council members also said the vote was not a done deal before the meeting. "This was no preconceived, slotted thing," Lawson said. Of the three or more names of possible replacements floated since Ranson announced he would resign, only was in council chambers for Thursday's vote. Lawyer Marc Lampert, who actively lobbied for the position after two neighborhood groups endorsed him, didn't attend the meeting. He said he believes the council's decision was made before the meeting started. " has never been the issue to me," Lampert said. "But why do you blow off the wishes of a significant portion of the community?" When Ranson announced he would resign, he asked the council to consider neighborhood associations' wishes on who would replace him. The Garden District Neighborhood Foundation and the Wedgewood Downs/ Memorial Neighborhood Watch group endorsed Lampert, who said he'd never commit to not running next fall. Suzie Butler, with the Wedgewood group, said "it's real unfortunate" Lampert wasn't chosen, but "we will have the opportunity to run someone in 11 months." Smith and Lawson said they preferred a fresh election next year, and with no incumbent to run in District 4, new candidates would not have an uphill fight battling someone with political name recognition. They lauded 's business acumen, adaptability and history. "He'll bring in not only the history of Central Louisiana ... he is one who did not sleep through the revolution" of computer technology and clothing changes, Lawson said. "I think he's an honorable man." also brings in a Rolodex of business connections, a commodity needed to pull more business-minded talent into Alexandria and its government, Smith said. "We have too much talent out there in (the) business" community, Smith said. Though there was no council discussion before the vote, there were plenty of accoladesfor afterward. "He has a proven record of working with people in this town," said Ben Johnson of the Alexandria Human Relations Commission.

silver is gonna get his clock cleaned. it was apparent to all that whoever took the temporary position would not run for office. he lied. regardless, understand the council wants him to win. silvers said so. that alone should be the kiss of death. additionally, lampert would not agree to the no run stipulation and took him self out of contention for the temp position. now silvers is running as an incumbent. what a piece of work. again, lampert will stomp him. it won't even be close. the upside to harry, just as he forgot about his promise not to run, he won't remember he actually ran and was beaten.

You guys are so misguided. Harry is going to win, although the margin may be close. And Sams doesn't have a snowballs chance of winning or even making a runoff.

I have no idea who is going to win but it would be a major goddam shame if Silver and Brewer got in office based on complete shameless lies.

Anonymous said...

No kidding. Town talk has been running columns daily on what the voters in the various districts are looking for in city government and nearly 100% listed honesty and telling the truth as their main issue. Brewer and Silver ought to be easy to eliminate. When people spout those bold baldface public lies like that, they show, among other things, that they have absolutely no repect for us or faith in our intelligence. That kind of stuff really makes me sick.

Greetings fellow bloggers. As I said, I contacted some of my more trusted sources on the Pineville side of the river and inquired about Mr. Aymond.

He seems to have quite a reputation but not one to be proud of. Mostly, he is laughed at and considered to be a buffoon. The word most used in describing Mr. Aymond is “kook.”

He has filed numerous complaints with the state ethics board and files frivolous lawsuits against anyone he considers an enemy. To date he has yet to win any of these lawsuits, or have any of his ethics complaints acted on in a serious manner. The specific charge he levied against Tom David stems from David presenting smoked turkeys and hams as Chistmas presents, to a few members of various boards who also happen to be personal friends. In one instance David and a member of England Authority had been exchanging Christmas gifts for years before the member was even appointed to the board. David and this man have been friends since college days.

Aymond imagines himself a champion of the public good but seems to be more like Don Quixote in real life, constantly tilting at windmills. His skills in the courtroom, (he is an attorney) are marginal at best having lost most of the cases he has litigated.

He pops up from time to time at city council meetings, board meetings, and even social events, uninvited I might add, mostly to try and embarrass those officials in attendance.
He is considered an annoyance.

The best example of Aymond’s eccentric behavior is his latest diatribe against Clarence Fields. (Ayomnd claims that Fields is everything from dishonest to a JFK assination conspirator)

Survey says….Aymond is a psychologically unbalanced individual who wants to be a “player” in the political arena. He uses outlandish behavior and the occasional frivolous lawsuit to draw attention to himself. His facts are never what he says they are, and the “smoking gun” he claims to have doesn’t exist. He’s un-important.

The feathers and bones have spoken

I got a call from a pollster tonight. It was obviously for Ms. Brewer. One of the questions was something like whether I'd vote for a trial attorney if I knew he had sued the city and the state multiple times, including the city police on behalf of criminals claiming police brutality. They're doing a number on the young Mr. Roy. Maybe he didn't know who he was playing with.

Anonymous said...

Well Sooth, I bet you freinds in Pineville don't like me. I have won all my lawsuits against the City of Pineville , on behalf of clients, as well as fire and police civil service cases. Most recently, I sued on bhalf of property owners on Webster Street for the City's defective sewer, which resulted in the planned sewer improvements you read about in the paper. Also my threatened lawsuit is what got the courthouse closed last Christmas, to have the mold removed. No most people that do right are not well liked by the wrongdoers.
As to the frivilous suits I have filed, I personally only filed one, the Rich Dupree suit, and that is current;ly pending in the Louisiana Supreme Court.
As to dismissed ethics complaints, many have not been dismissed. The Tommy David one concerned his Christmas gifts, hunting trips, and food to public officers and servants he did business with, after being told by the Ethics Board and myself that he couldn't do so. Tommy said he didnt care what the law said. Perhaps you and your friends can clarify which laws we have to follow and which we don't, and who can break laws and who cannot?
As to my trial record, I am very successful. Ask Judges or my clients, not the ones I have successfully sued.
Bottom line is, your opinion is based upon no actual facts. Rather, it is based upon opinions from people I have gone to court against to enforce the laws they violate. And by the way, the Ethics Board met last Thurday, so watch the news for reports comming out of that meeting. Although I am prohibited by law from discussing pending ethics matters, I can assure ypu that many of those complaints have not been dismissed, and you will soon find out about one or more of them.
So if I am a kook for expecting politicians to follow the laws, and report them when they do not,I am proud to hold that title. I bet you still think Edwin Edward and Mayor Bowden were the victims of kooks. I guess you and your friends favor dishonest government as usual in Louisiana. Next time, try to get some facts straight before you mouth off.

Just remember Biff, Silver doesn't have a string of women he beat up. You obviously haven't checked Lampert out yet in regard to his abuse of women. It will not be hard. It took me about three phone calls before I found out the allegations previously mentioned earlier in the campaign on this blog were 100% accurate. Check it out. Ask Lampert if he will acknowledge the truth and apologize for these reprehensible acts.

Anonymous said...

I'm always amazed that when the Delores people and the Harry people respond to their guys red-handed dishonesty they talk about how fat Sams is or what an ambulance chaser Roy is or what a bad guy Lampert was.

We are talking about (1) curent dishonesty, (2) in this campaign,(3) directed at deceiving the public. I assume that that constitutes a tacit admission of Brewer's and Silver's dishonesty. Kind of an "oh yeah" defense. I guess the voters will sort it out.

Anonymous said...

I got the same poll phone call. My guy could barely speak English. I mean, BARELY. What a crock it was. If I find out that DB was behind it, I'll remove her from my #2 spot.

Big whoop that you'll remove DB from your # 2 spot. If you're already voting for someone else why would that mean anything? If Roy has repeatedly sued the state and city, he needs to explain why.

DB is NOT trailing JR in the polls. Sams is NOT gaining, in fact he's lost support and Roosevelt leads the blacks. DB is the frontrunner. You either know she is and don't want to admit it, or you haven't seen any polling. You'll see soon enough. Election day is 14 days away!

I think Roy's commercial is very good. I kept thinking there was something familiar about it. It dawned on me that it reminds me of one Ned did years ago. But instead of Alexandria is at a crossroads back then, Ned said there is a fork in the road. Juneau did that commercial. KJA must've pulled that out to come up with something for Roy. Hat's off. That was a good idea. Plus, Roy pulls it off, effectively.

town talk endorses jacques roy for mayor:

Consider all the challenges, and vote for Roy

When Alexandrians go to the polls Sept. 30, they will face the important task of choosing a mayor.

Citizens recognize, after the sure and steady 20-year leadership of Mayor Ned Randolph, that change -- big change -- is upon us.

he person chosen to lead the city through this change will make a pronounced difference and set the stage for years to come.
All of the mayoral candidates recognize the top challenges a new mayor must engage -- infrastructure, traffic flow, economic development, workforce development, downtown revitalization, Red River development and open, accountable city government.

With seven candidates vying for the top position, the question becomes this:

Who has the intelligence, knowledge, integrity, drive and passion to move from political rhetoric to practical reality? Who:

Has a vision and a plan to address the needs of all parts of the city by focusing on both revitalization and new growth -- smart growth?

Has a plan that addresses the problems of overextended infrastructure, embraces the obvious need for growth, and encourages the rejuvenation of neighborhoods?

Has a plan for downtown revitalization and Red River development that includes the poorer parts of the city in realistic ways and that recognizes the importance of partnering with Pineville to ensure good growth on both sides of the river?

Has the knowledge and determination to bring the city administration and City Council back in line with the City Charter?

Understands that it's imperative for all public servants to avoid even the appearance of unethical conduct and that people are served best by an open, transparent government?

Who understands the legalities of government and can use that knowledge to help guide the city through complex contracts, lawsuits, negotiations and daily operations?

Has a plan to improve traffic flow throughout the city and to provide access to neighborhoods that for too long have been separated by geography, income and a lack of concern?

Has a plan that includes expansion of the city-owned zoo, better use of recreation and park facilities and continued support of city landmarks and tourism destinations?

After listening to all the candidates, we think the best choice is Jacques Roy.

He understands what's working in the city, and what isn't. He has the skills, temperament and professional experience needed to make an immediate, positive difference. He has thoughtful plans to help the city grow in good ways.

For all those reasons, Jacques Roy deserves a chance to lead Alexandria, a city whose star is clearly on the rise.

u Check online: For more information about the candidate, go to www.jacquesroyformayor.com.

actually, the TT endorsement can be the kiss of death. remember, they endorsed gay coleman for judge and it cost her 5000 votes.

Anonymous said...

The bluebloods have lost their 50 year iron grip on the Town Talk. The departure of Newhouse has ushered in a new era. However, I caution you now, Roy v. Black candiate is now inevitable. I hope the Brewer people don't do like that Republican "also ran" in New Orleans, he endorsed Nagin and put Nagin back in with a strange republican/black alliance. Watch out for that one.

Anonymous said...

Hey, Dang Shame, I know DB and Silver are dishonest. There are other vices they possess and I will not vote for either; however, there is no other reason this individual is speaking than to suggest people on their own, investigate to determine that Marc Lampert has repeatedly assaulted and battered women, hospitalized them and has never publicly acknowledged his actions or apologized for them. His actions which are known by many are so horrific, that I can't think of a single candidate in any local races that has ever sunk to this level. He committed unspeakable acts, never atoned and therefore I would say he does not consider spousal abuse a big deal. If he openly states he has a problem and wishes to get help, then I will back off, because then everyone can make a decision with all the facts at hand.

Anonymous said...

If it's true that Lampert has a history of battering women, why hasn't the TT done a story on that? When he committed these acts, were they in the paper in the arrests section? Are there police records? Surely there is a paper trail on this if it is true.

Anonymous said...

Many cases of spousal abuse never are reported and it is unknown if any were made against Lampert, but why don't you just ask him and see what he says. Or check with the relatives of his first three wives and ask them. Many victims are so embarassed, humiliated and ashamed that they let themselves be abused by a sociapath that they want anonymity. This is very common among the abused. Also with kids involved it can be hurtful to relive the facts, but the facts definitely point to the true nature of Lampert. Remember O. J. as many of his attacks were unreported and many were overlooked by the authorities because of who he was. Remember Lampert was a lawyer and associated with the DA's office and could have received preferential treatment.

Anonymous said...

What can you do when the police are called and the victim refused to make charges against the assailant? This happens all too often. The inner workings of spousal abuse are complicated, but one thing is sure, an abuser doesn't change and should not be given any more power, such as public office. Folks in district four need to consider this, as your council member affects us all.

Anonymous said...

For what it's worth, I work with his exwife's mother and she says that she and her daughter support Lampert 100% We haven't discussed her daughter's failed marriage but she says that they both like and respect Lampert, remain friends, turn to him for legal and related problems and think that he should win. I don't think she lives in that district so she probably can't vote for him but, with all that being said, if his "exes" are OK with him who do you want him to confess to and be forgiven by? Are you Benny Hinn?
