Cenla Antics

Cenla Antics

In reading today's issue of the Town Talk, I was rather taken a back to find that this blog has attracted so much attention. Although I appreciate Mr. White's request of posting authors using their real names, he seems to not understand that it defeats the purpose of the blog. Would Mr. White stand and deliver if he had a problem with his neighbor? (use a scenario that fits here folks). I think not ... it would cause undue harm to relationship that needs to work. Hence the anonymity postings on this blog. Mr. White I applaud your interest and your intent; however, I do not think that it will work in all cases.

Now Mr. White to stir the pot a little. IF the Town Talk and KALB actually did a little investigative reporting this blog would be a moot point now would it not? In they're selective reporting, they have sewn the seed that created Cenla Antics. So Mr. White, in finding the answers to the many questions being asked by the public, would not the "real" media use unidentified sources?

In closing, I am aware that I need to spend some time on archiving old postings. I hope to have this done within the next week or two. I would also like to address a statement made on this blog a few postings back. I have never deleted any postings on this blog. In my opinion to do so would again, take away from the purpose that created this blog.

I remain,

WE SAW THAT says the Roy is running and will make his announcement next week. I hope this excites the community and creates real interest in the election and the process. We need change. Real and complete change. I hope Biff is wrong. I usually agree with his observations and reasons but we differ here. We shall see.

Many of us feel that there is nothing to lose.

It is obvious that so many of us are desperate to find someone who is moral, honest, competant, and intelligent who could run this city like a business. The names mentioned up until this moment are pitiful. This is sad but true. If these clowns are our options we best plan on simply protecting our families and our assets ourselves. There is no one in the mix than could run a snowcone stand honestly. Power, control, domination and greed are the issues with the present candidates and I see no hope to entice an honest individual to take the job, so please don't disgrace yourself by trying to pick one of these incompetent boobs and pass it off as the best of a pitiful group. Just admit the obvious and back off unless a human actually comes forward and agees to take on this formidable task.

Interesting comments on downtown. I'm surprised it is not booming. Let's see! Three billion spent on making Red River navigable. Uh Uh! River living. Condo's on the banks. Riverboat casinos. Boomtown USA. Millions spent on Hotel Bentley, tourism mecca. I-49 bringing the multitudes to the newly revised downtown. Running trails, walking trails, high rise condos, Fancy restaurants, art, culture blah, blah, blah! Where's the kid from the emperor's new clothes. No one wants to go downtown during the day much less at night. One restaurant that is in the process of going tits up and that's it. Diamond grill has a couple of tables occupied when Copeland's is packed lunch and dinner everyday and for brunch on Sunday. Private enterprise works. Spend a million and get all the grants you want and you can't drag folks downtown. Forget it and let free enterprise work.

Thanks for the comment, Lynton. You really should be in bed earlier. Save your money! Don't bother qualifying!

The rumor is that Rick Ranson will be Delores Brewer's chief of staff. Any truth to it?

Anonymous said...

Ranson would add a lot of credibility to Delores' candidacy and he would definitely stand up to the council. Doesn't he already have a good job?

Anonymous said...

I seriously doubt Rick would leave his bank presidency to go back to city hall to fight with the council that he so enjoyed leaving. He may remain a major advisor, I suppose. As far as "Landslide Lynton", we need more white candidates. Right now there is still a danger that one of the white candidates will be in the runoff.

Anonymous said...

Rick Ranson will not be the chief of staff for Delores. Ned agreed to wholehardly support Delores in exchange for her hiring his brother in law, David Broussard, as Chief of Staff. They are marching to the tune of "consultant says, so candidate does". As for Jacques Roy, he's being encouraged to run by Cespiva to prevent two white Republicans from being in the run off because so many black Democrats are running. He could care less about sacrificing politically naive Roy to get a democrat in the run-off. Most of the group some of you think Roy appeals to are not even registered to vote. Chris Roy needs to go through politics 100 (remedial) with his boy. Roy's only qualification is that he lives in the city limits and is old enough. Where's Bo Curtis and Ed Laverdain when we need them?

Anonymous said...

To the poster immediately above: your comments show how incredibly uninformed or dishonest you are. Cespiva has nothing to do with anything. He is inactive, ineffective, and inlovewithhimself. Roy has proved himself quite competent any everything that he has undertaken. Brewer clearly cannot truthfully say that. 74% of the white people don't care enough to vote. If Roy doesn't inspire them, nothing will.

Anonymous said...

Correction: that's 84% of the registered white voters don't care enough to participate. 84% ! We need some new blood.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I would love to see Ranson become chief of staff for ANY candidate. At least we would have someone in city hall who knows the facts and has the backbone to do the right thing no matter who it offends.

Anonymous said...

I assume you are talking about the same Ranson who unloaded that moldy white elephant bank building on the city and then left his district, his elected position of trust, and his city, to lead a more enriched lifestyle. He left all the folks he represented essentially without representation and at the mercy of the council's dupe. All of a sudden now he's the messiah???? My guess is that Rick has had enough.

Anonymous said...

As a personal friend of Rick Ranson, I cannot let the comments of "history" pass without a word.

It's ironic you use the name "history" since you ignore the facts. On many occasions, Rick has stated that the city's purchase of the Regions' building was a terrible one. I know that he contacted the state ethics board to see how far he could go in opposing it. He was told that he could not vote or make any comments on the matter. Privately, Rick lobbied against the purchase but the black councilmen along with Harold Chambers were hell bent on buying the property.

As far as Rick's resignation from the council, he publicly stated that he and his wife found some property on Cotile Lake that was perfect for raising his young child. I applaud Rick for putting family above politics. For 8 years he gave 1000% to the city and his constituents. I'm glad he's got his priorities straight.

Maybe Michelle Goddard ought to invite Rick to make a video blog about city politics.

As for you, "history", next time get the facts straight before making a foll of yourself.

Anonymous said...

By the way, "history", I see I made an error in my previous posting. I called you a "foll" when what I really meant to say is that you are a "FOOL".

Anonymous said...

OK. I stand corrected. He didn't unload that white elephant moldy bank building on the city and he didn't abandon his district, or leave his district in a lurch, or move out of the city, but rather, he finished his solemn sacred committment to his constiuents to serve out his term on the council.

I feel like such a "foll".

Anonymous said...

Hey history. The word is fool and you certainly are one.

Anonymous said...

Landslide Lynton? I just think it is worth $350.00 to make things interesting.

Anonymous said...

Landslide, I think you would be an excellent mayor. I just hope you appreciate the political realities of this race and don't do something that will promote an eventual outcome that you know to be to our detriment. This is your city too. Don't help ruin it just for a little entertainment.

I know that a lot of promises of support and job committments have been made and a lot of lies told by both republican candidates. I understand that Sams and Lawson have some sort of mutual support pact. I know for a fact that the Sams organization has been secretly promoting Lawson. That really stinks. Is the job worth all that?

It is very easy to find fault without offering solutions and intelligent solutions will be what propels us to a brighter future for our city.

three comments. 1. delores' brother-in-law, ned's wife's brother will be chief of staff. that was part of the cost of her being annointed by the regime. notice how she ducked that on her interview question while calling her lie a figure of speech. she would make clintoon proud. 2. ransom got his building sold, and that insured his job at the bank. you won't see him back in politics. 3. jacques will be nothing but a spoiler. my left nut has a better chance. that aside, if roy would REALLY run in four years, i think he would be elected. understand though, he obviousy had no interes in the race until the regime set him up. unfortunately, this race, he is being used as a dupe to insure two black candidates make the run-off and the regime can drop delores like a hot potato and cut a deal with one of the black candidates. wise up. there are a lot of people who have made a lot of money under ned, and a regime change would cut them off the public teat.

Anonymous said...

OK Biff. As always, your logic is impecable but why doesn't Jacques have a shot? I don't understand your thoughts on that?

Anonymous said...

It would appear that Biff is up to his afore-mentioned-left-nut behind John Sams. Consider the source.

Anonymous said...

to previous posts. david crutchfield would be an asset to any company or town. he is a great guy. as for the post about sam's secretly supporting lawson, both are running for city wide elections. i would hazard a guess that the more likely scenario, is sams and myron have agreed not to slam each other, and let the votes fall where they may.

Anonymous said...

All of the names you mention, Ranson, Crutchfield, and Roy, all have one thing in common. They have worked in private industry and know how to run the City as a business. The City has several good young leaders in its employ; now if they can only hold on to them through all the political rangling, general BS, and poor pay.

Anonymous said...

I certainly don't know the details of any Sams/Lawson deal but I do know that members of the Sams organization have been promoting Myron in certain specific communities. Maybe it's there own project without Sams' knowledge. The Sams organization and the Chuck Wagner campaign are highly inbred and there may be some cross deals working.

Anonymous said...

Biff isn't supporting his opinions on Jacques Roy. I imagine that he thinks that Roy will draw more heavily from Sams than Brewer or he would not be as adamently opposed to Roy. I mostly just don't know. I think that the effect of Roy running is that Roy would be mayor and I consider that entirely positive.

Anonymous said...

listen, i agree with the posts. i am a sams supporter. and my conjectures on what a roy candidacy would do are certainly colored by my sams support. and if roy would have announced month's ago, i might not be a sams supporter. that aside, when i tell someone i will support them, i will support them. i still (personally) think roy will be nothing more than a spoiler. his candidacy is just too late. i repeat, i doubt sams and myron have a deal, but it is understood that if myron supports a candidate other than sams, sams will get on the slatkin band wagon. i suspect a truce more that a deal.

Anonymous said...

Biff is obviously an agent for Sams. Really smooth Biff. Dale Carnegie 101....."always speak in a confident manner". Anyone who has paid any attention to this blog knows what your agenda is. Personally, I think you're full of "crap". And Lynton........you don't have the $$ or support to run for mayor. Don't you think it's time for you to become more responsible and get a real job and help support your family?

Anonymous said...

Myron Lawson is absolutely behind his idiot putpet, Charles Smith. He's not running for mayor himself because State Farm will remove him from his $300,000 annual income as their agent. The general public does not know Jacques Roy. The bar association may know him, but they've never been in touch with reality or real work. When running for election yourself, you need to stay out of other races. Best example is Ricky Farrar and king maker Sheriff Hilton.

Anonymous said...

Gee, I thought I was conversing on a blog and it turns out I have entered the chamber of the kingmakers. Some nasty little anonymous person purports to know me very well. I love to give suprises. See you at the races.

Anonymous said...

i am not an 'agent' for sams. i think my posts make it perfectly clear i am going to vote for sams. to accuse me of some type of subgerfuge is just bull-shit. post facts. tell me why i should not support sams. i'll be glad to answer withing my limited ability. but to accuse me of being a sams 'agent", is utter bullshit

Anonymous said...

I thought Lawson was supporting Roosevelt. Then he can be in charge without beeing Mayor.

Anonymous said...

The more I learn about Brewer, the more I lean toward Sams, HOWEVER, if I see a link between Sams and Lawson that will destroy any suggestion of Sams having ethical standards or independence and that will close the book on Sams for me. That's where Roy and Landslide Lynten come into it. I am now actively hunting for the Lawson/Sams connection.

If Biff were Sams he would call himself "Dr. Biff". Sams apparently thinks that his medical degree is a major credential in the mayoral race (as he believed in the school board race). His favorite expression or illustration was that "fungus can only grow in the dark - it can't survive daylight". Then someone pointed out all the toad stools and mushrooms on his front lawn and he dropped that war cry. Another "figure of speech"???

Anonymous said...

y'all cut it out. i'm beginning to think i am sams. that aside, the basic tenor of my posts is that at this point in time, jacques will just be a spoiler. someone posted, correctly, that the bar certainly knows roy. whether the general public does is an entirely different issue. to think that someone who has never run for office, with, in my humble opionion, very little name recognition,in the last 60 days of the election, and make the run off is a stretch. i repeat, that is my real world analysis, independent of who i am supporting. i would love to see some posts addressing that issue, as opposed to attacking poor lil ole me.

Anonymous said...

Biff, Brewer and Sams have name recognition with enormous negative opinion. Everyone seems to be looking for someone or something to believe in. If Jacques did represent a hugely popular movement in the present atmosphere, maybe that would motivate, activate, and mobilize our huge uninvolved white middle-class and working population of elegible voters. I don't see Brewer or Sams creating sufficient excitement or involvement among the masses, to come in more than distant second in a runoff. I don't know if Jacques can do it. I'm pretty sure that Delores and Sams CAN'T.

You are realistic and pragmatic. Certainly you recognize how the math comes out on Sams and Brewer. Why wouldn't you want to at least give Alexandria a chance? As I and many other's see it, this isn't about Jacques. He just represents the only realistic chance that we have.

Anonymous said...

The political reality is that a republican cannot win in a minority City. The New Orleans elite learned this lesson 30 years ago, since then, countless other cities have followed suit. Jaques has a chance to win if he gets in the run-off bcause he is a democrat, the two republican candidates simply represent the last gasp of the formerly dominant blueblood elite. Let history be your guide.

Anonymous said...

I hereby predict that Biff will abandon his heretofore dogmatic, inflexible, intransigent ways and embrace our popular movement. I believe that if we can get Biff and Spanky together we can start our own country. Landslide will be our Minister of Defense.

What is wrong with Roosevelt Johnson? The only negative I have seen mentioned on this site is that he is not very bright. Maybe that is not too bad. Many evil men in history have been intelligent and the harm they have done is many times porportionate to their brilliance. He seems to have supported himself by hard work rather than living off the public teat like all the others in one capacity or the other. EWE was extremely cunning, intelligent, machiavellian, and competent but what did he do for Louisiana. Worse than nothing. Maybe if Roosevelt was elected and surrounded himself with good folks he would be good for Alexandria. Comments?

Anonymous said...

Oh, my God!

I agree with the person who said that no one knows Roy outside of the local bar association. I think that he has been talked into running by the lawyers who eat at Sammy's everyday for lunch. Believe me, that crowd knows very little about what's important to everyday citizens, be they black or white. Roy is wasting his time and money.

Anonymous said...

Let's review: Collectively everyone agrees that the BIGGEST fault of the current administration was allowing those surrounding the Mayor to make decisions for him and run the City. We've all read the various, not-so-flattering comments about where this has led our City.

Now to the question at hand: Maybe Roosevelt would not be that bad if he just surrounded himself with "good" people. Translation: the man is incompetent and not truly qualified for the job so the City is run by proxy, again, for the next four years. Sounds like more of the same show, just the actors are replaced!!!!!!

When will the voters wake up and realize that this election is about picking the CEO of a major corporation. Please allow me to explain: Think about our local economy. Which businesses have 800+ employees and a $150 million budget? Dresser, P&G, Union Tank? Would you want Roosevelt at them helm of any of those organizartions?

Think about it and choose wisely - your children's futures depend on it!

Anonymous said...

Just hide and watch. We shall see what lawyer know about the stuff they know about. I think your doom of the Roy campaign is a little premature.

Roy is running a poll. The results will decide whether he runs. The boy is naive - not stupid. Remember, his family ties include the Edwards/Laborde/["Sookie"]Roy clan. They know how to run a campaign. If poll says no - he will not run - no $$$.

Anonymous said...

I almost forgot - that poll will likely include Chris, Jr. for Dewitt's seat in the H of R. How bout that folks. You heard it here first.

Anonymous said...

Dewitt's new district is pretty conservative, it even goes into rural Vernon parish. Very few minority votes or Edwards fans.

Anonymous said...

Not sure where you're hearing the information that Jacques will be running a poll to determine if he should run for mayor. Maybe it's true.......... but the guy seems to have gained more traction than any other candidate during the last two weeks....and everyone else has already announced.

I think Jacques is the real deal, and I think that those of you who wish he'd wait four years are implying to the rest of us that you're afraid of this traction... and that as supporters of other candidates, you're afraid of what a Roy candidacy could do to your own campaign.

Oh, and I don't know Jacques Roy, but I've followed the Cleco case enough to know that this guy understands what's really going on.

Anonymous said...

billy gunn writes in this morning's town talk that roy will announce his candidacy this week. he also writes that delore's husband was booted as the insurance advisor for the housing authority and fuller's wife got the job. amazing.

Anonymous said...

I am one of those lawyers that you don't like. I know Roy professionally and know that he has been beating the bushes to try to find someone to run for mayor who could and WOULD address the incredible corruption and mismanagement he has uncovered in city government through this Cleco litigation. I think it became apparent that, if he would make the sacrifice, he was the guy with the skills, passion and knowledge to do the job. I don't know "traction" or the other political jargon but I know that the people who really care about Alexandria would be wise to take a long hard look at Roy before they pull the lever.
I note with some interest that today's Town Talk says that the insurance "consultant" position that has been occupied by Delores Brewer' husband, John (for years and without her knowledge), now belongs to Police Jury President and mayoral candidate, Joe Fuller's wife. These people are spitting in our faces. How long will we let it go on?

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with John and Delores having to seek honest employment for the first time in their life? And whose bodies did Delores step over to obtain her previous position in the administration? Live by the sword, die by the sword!

Anonymous said...

Honest employement really ain't that great. I think that's why they call it "work".

I hope Gunn brings us the story on how Mrs. Joe Fuller became the AHA's insurance consultant. I'm sure that it has to be on the up-and-up or their attorney, Bridget Brown, wouldn't have let it pass.

Anonymous said...

It's on the up and up just like Ned's buddy John's and Delores' husband John's association with the AHA is on the up and up.

Alexandria needs Mrs. Brewer.

While everything else is subject to conjecture, it is outragious to suggest the Brewer represents a change. She has been part of the adminstration/problem for 20 years and is the darling of the present operators who want to hang on to their herd of cash cattle. If you support Delores, for whatever reason, we can respect that but do not insult us and embarrass yourself by suggesting that she represents "change". You are above that propaganda and you shouldn't let yourself be used to spread that rediculous manure. We would like to trust you.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who gives Brewer money at this point is throwing good money after bad. She can not run as a reform candidate because she is part of the administration that needs reform. Nice hat, no horse.

Anonymous said...

Carolyn, that's not my position. Delores may be the best and smartest and smoothest person in the race but she does not, by any streatch of the imagination, represent a change. I can tolerate an absolute lie being called a "figure of speach" but to try to divorce Brewer from the present administration and the present problems is absurd and insulting to us and degrading and embarrassing to you. I don't know that Brewer is but SHE IS NOT CHANGE.

Anonymous said...

Originally i didnt want any other whites to get into the race and hurt DELORES chance of winning . NOW , I am worried that Delores being in the race will hurt the chances of the only plausible candidate, Jacque Roy. He is running, he has money, he is NOT connected to City Hall and in fact has fought against the very corruption that is synonomous with this current group . And fairly or not Delores you are a part of the persona of the current City of Alex leadership. You say that you want what is best for the city . Then Please go ahead and withdraw and support someone who can take on the evil peoeple that are bringing this City down. And best of all he can do it with the power of the law. Why not get on his team . I know he respects you and you could be a real asset to him as the new Mayor. Please do the right thing. This should not be about ego or saving face. There is no glory in geting beat AND hurting the Citys chance to go forward. Do the right thing. Withdraw and free up your supporters to do what many of them are saying privately , that they know you cant win. Also, Delores, staying in does not serve the very man who has given you so many opportunities. Ned will not be well served by a hostile candidate from this group . Do the right thing for everyone. And do it soon. You can say that you ran because there was not a good candidate out ther but now that Roy is running you can spare yourself and your family this campaign and get behind someone who represents your ideal AND who can be elected. Do the right thing this time.

CAROLYNS DAUGHTER said...

I believe you should reconsider. My support for Mrs. Brewer is neither from progaganda as you put it, but from her track record with the city. Everyone knows the city has prospered in the last 20 years!

Maybe the last 4 years it is coming apart at the seams. My hat is off to Delores for trying to get it back on track.

She will not be a part-time mayor!

She is not the problem with the city government...The council splinters off in all directions.
They have trouble making decisions without study group costing tax payers.

You can only hold Mrs. Brewer responsible for her job as director of capital projects.

Your way of thinking, makes no sense. OK lets go your way lets get rid of every director in the city because they are a part of the whole!!! DUH!

The mayor and council hold the purse strings, they are responsible for the who, what, when, where and the how of everything!!!! Am I getting through to you.

I am neither dumb nor naive in regards to Alexandria City Government.

I get very angry when people make snap judgements from snippets of news. Everthing you read in the arena of the media will not tell you all you should know.

Half truths ,innuendo, rumors, I've lived with all this, not a pleasant experience.

copied and pasted from sams website

Why run for mayor? For the same reason I became a doctor and the same reason I became a school board member. God gave me the drive to make a difference on this earth and from my perspective I am the only electable person willing to run with the combination of enough intelligence, ethics, and tenacity to help turn this city around.

My themes are basic: honor and integrity, fairness and accountability. My methodology is simple. As a school board member, I did not have to seek out corruption and inefficiency. Everyone knows where it exists and honest people call and tell you. The job of confirming the issue, establishing accountability, and correcting the problem is the method whereby the system improves.

Economic development requires a government with good leadership.(CODE WORD BIG GOVT) A positive fair leader that all can trust to do the right thing will bring economic development to this city. Community growth in a fair and unbiased manner, holding all accountable, will bolster economic growth. Community development and infrastructure development capable of handling and attracting the economic development that this city should be attracting is imperative. Business is interested in a community going the right direction with the right leadership to get it there. Education and economic development through an inviting environment and family oriented community are the keys to this city.

Most successful plans are simple. Spend the public's money wisely. Hold qualified people accountable. Work together. Always try your best to be fair.

Can I be mayor and continue my practice of medicine?

Yes,(IF IT WAS COLFAX)

without question. God gave me many talents. While I am willing to serve my community as mayor, I am unwilling to abandon my patients. I will modify??? my practice and limit it as necessary to established patients, and will alter my office hours to accommodate my duties as mayor. WHAT AT NIGHT TIME!!!The Mayor of Alexandria is a position of supervision and judgment.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE

The president of General Motors, I am told, works 4 hours a day.?????????? WHERE IN THE HELL DID HE GET THAT....

AND AND GM LOST 10.6 BILLION!!!!! LAST YEAR

UNDER WAGNOEERS LEADERSHIP AND THEIR ARE TALK OF MERGERING WITH NISSAN OR A BUY OUT FROM TOYOTA. MAYBE WE JUST MERGE WITH PINEVILLE

Having the character to assure fairness and accountability for all, having the tradition of honor and integrity, and having the intellect to make good judgments are the qualifications I bring to the people of this community. I would hope they would allow me to serve them as Mayor..

Awhile back someone suggested that Roosevelt would do well if he surrounded himself with advisors expert in their respective fields. That idea was pooh poohed, but I believe the best CEO's all have trusted competent advisors. I have still heard no complaint regarding Johnson other than the comment he was not as intelligent as the others. Is that it!! Is he honest and moral and competent? I question if the others match up in those categories but in any event what is the downside to Roosevelt. Just want to know everyones take on this issue.

"Awhile back someone suggested that Roosevelt would do well if he surrounded himself with advisors expert in their respective fields. That idea was pooh poohed, but I believe the best CEO's all have trusted competent advisors."

Isn't that the George W Bush approach?? Look where that has got us? I would hate for Roosevelt to take us to war.

spanky, you caught me. "Just wonderin' how much a sympathetic news story costs?" i was slinging money at the town talk like a drunken sailor in bangkok.

Anonymous said...

If Roosevelt's takin' us to war, is Delores takin' us to a Jr. League soiree and Charles F. Smith gonna bring us to the home room charter.
And Sams is gonna take us to the morgue where he's gonna be if he don't drop about a hundred pounds. And Mr. Roy---the Dems can't buy all those black votes like they used to cause the blacks don't need no honkey candidates in office when they can vote for black candidates who will screw them just the same. Have a drink Albin cause you gonna need it.

Anonymous said...

Any word on who plans on replacing Sams on the school board?

How ethical is in for a teacher (CHARLENE JOHNSON) to endorse a school board member for the mayor's office? Everyone knows he runs Bolton high school, where she got a great non-teaching job, even though she was on "medical leave" from Peabody.

It is on Sams website.

this just in!!! my in-laws from grant parish just dropped off a goat for entrail readings. roy will not, i repeat, will not throw his hat in the ring. (despite gunn's statement in the paper this a.m to the contrary) he has decided whatever recognition he might get in running, for his law practice or for future elections, is not worth the risk of being labeled, and used, as a spoiler. he will replace charlie dimwit as state reprentative. the goat spleen has spoken. take it to the bank.

Anonymous said...

Wrong again Delores, Uh, I mean Biff, Roy is running. Take that and your goat entrails and get a non-government job.

Blogger said...

Biff,

You seem very sure of your psychic powers.

I just got off the phone with Mr. Roy about ten minutes ago, and he is DEFINITELY (I repeat, DEFINITELY) running for mayor. He says that any information you may have received to the contrary is incorrect.

I have a question for you: How does one "spoil" an election BEFORE the deadline for qualifying?

Anonymous said...

For all the prognostications I have seen here, I don't believe one has turned out to be correct. One questions, are there any whites out there who plan on voting for a black candidate or any blacks planning on voting for a white candidate. If not, then the results should be pretty predictable. How 'bout some responses from both?

Anonymous said...

If one gets in a political race that they have no realistic chance of winning then they are theoretically depriving a potentially successful contender from getting enough votes to win or make the runoff. I cannot imagine how this could apply to Roy. Anyone who discounts Roy's win potential is missing the picture.

Anonymous said...

befor qualifying, a spoiler can drain off financial and organizational support from the spoilee.

Anonymous said...

I have not voted along racial lines in the past and do not intend to start. My consternation and anxiety has been due to the fact that I would not hire any one of the candidates for the CEO position of the city due to lack of qualifications. Jacque Roy and Dr. Sams is going to come close with some important attributes but neither is a total package IMHO. The following are attributes that I feel are esssential.

1. Total Committment - No Diversions

2. Technical familiarity with the workings of each department and how they are inter-related. It is easy for department heads to talk over CEOs with technical BS if they do not have some idea of technical function.

3. People Skills - People are the most valuable asset in any organization and no two are alike. While it is easy to take the attitude that people can be fired, what comes next? It is always best to keep peace with the natives while searching for a solution.

4. A Grasp of Economic Fundamentals. What do things cost and what utilitarian benefits are derive from aquisition or non-aquisition of new technologies. An example would be the use of the city power plant boosted by two gas turbines to increase efficiency making profitable sale of excess electrical power a reality thereby lowering rates to the citizens and using green waste to fuel a fluidized bed furnace for preheat of the power plant as well as reducing the waste stream tonnage. A proper recycling plant could scavenge materials to be sold to offset cost of operation with remains run through the fluidized bed furnace and the resultant clinker used for roadbed filler. We already posess parts of the equation and are spending large sums on waste disposal. Re-assesing the total picture and re-allocating the same money can produce huge benefits. It takes a little imagination and ingenuity to utilize what we already posess to bring our town to the cutting edge of urban development.

5. Vision. Look at all of the resources that have been placed at our door that go under-utilized. We are located in the middle of some of the most fertile and temperate farmland in the United States ( I have seen much of it) and we do not market any finished products from here. There is no produce shipping, textile mills, or food processing facilities wihin Alexandria - none. What company produces furniture or spas or any other finished wood product. Magic Mountain water is Houston TX city water bottled for sale. The quality of our wells exceeds many in the country for quality and volume. This product alone could render great revenues to the city and benefit the citizenry. Since we are centrally located both in the state and regionally with the convergance of rail, river, interstate and air, why is there not a large scale distribution warehouse here? England airpark has one of the few 11,000 ft runways in the world.

6. Integrity - I want someone that will take care of the people's business ahead of their own.

7. Strength of Character. The ability to know and do the right thing when it is not popular or personally providential.

I do not care what color the skin is if the package has the basics. This election needs to be less about ethnicity and more about what is going to bring us to a better future. It is only natural that the discussion gravitate to tribal membership but for everyone's benefit, qualifications need to prevail.
OK, time for my medicine.

And another thing. The city has no business in the real estate speculation/development arena.

1. Plan the use.
2. Design to meet needs.
3. Aquire the proper site.
4. Build to specs.

not

1. Speculate on what will fit
2. See if it will fit
3. Aquire some white elephant
4. Reconstruct and hope it works.

Several deals come to mind. The Jakes Building (which they got lucky on), Regions Bank building (which it looks like they didn't get so lucky on and where is the pre-sale engineers report that would have shifted liability to the seller for discovered mold?), the 160 acre tract purchased on Hwy 1 south for a future water project that evaporated, and the sale of fourth street to RRMC where there were no "for sale" signs posted according to regulations pertaining to adjudicated and surplus property to assure the city got proper value for its property, just to name a few.

Buy the Bentley for how much?

Does anyone see a pattern here?

Anytime there is a surplus fund balance, a property appears that the city just cannot do without.

By the way, the city has a huge number of adjudicated properties that they must dispose of or maintain also.

Real estate management is not the city's forte.

I don't log on often, but when I do I am amazed at the die-hard Brewer Kool-aid drinkers here. I realize that many of you know her personally, and that's fine. I would expect you to support a friend, however, to say that she is qualified is just plain silly. In my dealings with her over the past 6 years I found her to be uninformed, and incompetent. But this is not surprising. The old saying holds true, those who occupy government positions for an extended period of time, do so because they are failures in the private sector. Brewer is the consummate bureaucrat. In the highly competitive environment of the real world, outside of government, she wouldn't last 10 minutes.

The only candidates Jacque Roy will beat in the mayor's race are Alice "Red" Hammond and Lynton Hester. So, if 8 people run, he'll come in 6th. The activity at the old Roark Music Building is the new headquarters for Delores Brewer's campaigne. Is Bo Curtis running for Mayor?? The KEY race is the Silver vs Lampert race and Dist 2's race. Will someone please run against Louis "felon" Marshall!!!

City of Alexandria planning for indoor sports arena
By Tom Bonnette
tbonnette@thetowntalk.com
(318) 487-6340

A new multi-use indoor sports arena is the end game for local politicians and developers working to revitalize downtown Alexandria.

"We are going to get it done. We are the only major metropolitan area in Louisiana that doesn't have a sports arena," said Alexandria City Councilman Myron Lawson, who authored a proposal passed by the City Council for the creation of the Alexandria Sports Arena Committee.

Lawson said the committee has now been formed and will meet for the first time next week to discuss the best way to move forward with the plan.

"My plan is to do this with a combination of federal, state, local and private funding. We are blessed right now with the resources, and our location justifies
getting it done," he said.

The proposed sports arena would be built off Interstate 49 on the old Ruston Foundry site and surrounding area, and it would include a commercial and light industrial park, said Patrick Moore, owner of Moore Planning Group, which has developed a conceptual drawing for the plan.

The proposal calls for the Ruston Foundation to be transformed into an open space park system with arterial access roads, gateways and a lake. The complex would serve as a dramatic gateway off the Interstate 49 exits and create a commercial center for downtown Alexandria, Moore said.

The complex would be capable of housing football, hockey, basketball and other major events, such as large shows and concerts.

Asked which sports teams would use the facility, Moore said the arena could be initially utilized by local college teams, from LSU-Alexandria and Louisiana College. A new arena would also help create new professional sports ventures in Central Louisiana, said Moore.

He cautioned that the plan is at a very preliminary level. "There is a lot of study that still has to be done about this," he said.

Is this not a perfect example of the city using taxpayer funds as venture capital? These functions are best left to private enterprise. I am still amazed how Benson has been long stroking the citizens of Louisiana over the Superdome and still has the gall to complain and threaten.
City money for city functions/ private funds for entreprenurial endeavors. Where is the money coming from to replace aging water, sewer, and streets? Why don't we just set up a transportation company to take people to any sport venue that they want at taxpayer expense - it will be cheaper in the long run and it is easier to dispose of buses than a white elephant sport center? If N.O. cannot support an NFL team, what can we support? If it does proceed, put parking on the checklist.

does pat moore have like a real job? it seems like his name is always right in the mix when it comes to sucking up city of alexandria taxpayer dollars with these halfbaked schemes and scams.

How much money does Moore get for a these pie in the sky dreams he gets to design at our expense. What a boondoggle. Where are our councilmen when these committees are formed and funds authorized for studies. Pan Amer Engineers and Tom David seem to be doing all the work for Alex.

Ms. Metzgar correctly describes the root of our political problems. How many people have said that Slatkin doesn't have a chance? If enough people voted their conscience, Slatkin would give Myron a run for his (and Bridgette's) money.

SHREVEPORT TIMES
By Emily Metzgar
(excerpt)

Yes, some days my e-mail in-box resembles the sign at Dante's Gates of Hell: "Abandon all hope ye who enter here!" And it's easy to see how all the statistics, all the rankings, all the anecdotes and all the missed opportunities can lead to desperation accompanied by fear that nothing about the status quo will ever change.

But painful as they are, those statistics, rankings, anecdotes and articulations of missed opportunities, appearing in all kinds of media all over the state (and around the country, for that matter), can tell a story.

Here's the thing: It's not that Louisiana has to be this way; it's that the people of Louisiana have allowed it to be this way. And as long as we, the state's voters, continue giving free rein to the elected and appointed officials responsible for the current state of affairs, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I disagree with journalist H.L. Mencken who once defined hope as "a pathological belief in the occurrence of the impossible." It's not pathological to believe Louisiana can do better. Forty-nine other states are doing better. Why can't Louisiana?

The question isn't whether change is possible in Louisiana. Changing the tradition of ethics-dodging, decision-delaying and reform-fearing politics in this state is entirely possible.

The question, instead, is whether Louisiana's voters have the will to transform a hope for something better into reality. But know that such hope, once rallied, also will need to be sustained, because what was a long time in the breaking will be a long time in the fixing. As the old cliché goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So why not let the first step be one of hope that Louisiana should -- and can -- do better?

The Book of Proverbs says, "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick." When will Louisiana stop deferring its hopes? Isn't the state sick enough?

Anonymous said...

Now you guys are putting it together. The next step will to have a consultant do a feasability study. If it is feasible or not, he consultant gets paid. I am thinking a little conversation over a pot of coffee could reach the same outcome with much less expense. But, what do I know.

Anonymous said...

Where is the money going to come from to clean up that site? Who is going to be responsible for the superfund cleanup needed?

Anonymous said...

Come on! Now why other than kickbacks and graft would anyone design a sports complex to be located downtime in a crime ridden area with no parking, out of the way of all residential area with no like facilities within miles. A sports facility if private industry would determine it was viable and profitable would probably be located on Hwy 28 West by the present ball fields and golf courses. But of course, no graft, corruption, kickbacks, studies etc. This is so transparent it is pitiful. Whatcha bet these planners and consultants are contributing big time to all the front runners in every race or to the folks who really run the council and administration. How can the Town Talk and KALB fail to analyze this for their readers and viewers. If this is not investigated these news organizations should hang their heads in shame and slink out on a moonless night.

Anonymous said...

If the reporters would just follow the money in these schemes, then the FBI would not have to work as hard as they are right now

Anonymous said...

We Saw That,

Pat Moore does have job. Look closely at his client list and you will find that most of them are various government entities. The man has spent his entire professional life sucking on the government tit.

Perhaps Myron is using this Sports Arena Project to better his chances of getting re-elected. Why would people vote against a Councilman who is in the middle of a project of this significance to the local economy.

Lets look past all the hype and conceptual drawings. There are two important questions that need to be considered before this goes any further. What happens to Cotton Storage and Alexandria Iron...perhaps expropriation. And secondly, how in the hell are we going to pay for this? I realize that sometimes we have to think "out of the box" but let's get real here. The Aces attract 2500 per night, play in a stadium that costs them nothing, and they still barely break even. And since LSUA plans to have sports teams in the future, why not do something out there where there is a logical connection with existing facilities.

Anonymous said...

All of this mayoral talk matters not. Alexandria will not escape the snake's grip.

Anonymous said...

Yes Pat Moore has a made a fortune off of the City of Alexandria....hmmmmm and who would have been that very person at the City that got that work to one Mr Moore?...Hmmm..could it be...DELORES BREWER????..And you can bet there would be more of this patronage sucking sound if Brewer were elected. We need a change.

Anonymous said...

Actually...Delores was the one who got Pat Moore fired from his last City job. He was the LA for the 1st phase of the Johnny Downs Complex. There were sooooooooooooo many problems that developed as a result of his incompetence yhat she and Harold Chambers insisted that he be removed from the design team. Phase 2 was done without his assistance and went much smoother.

The only reason Mr. Moore has the 3rd Street Project is that he convinced the folks in Baton Rouge to provide the funding. You see, that's his little game. He does the preliminary designs, gets the funding lined up, and then the Client feels obligated to use his firm for the entire project.

Delores and others finally figured out his little scheme and are of the opinion now that even if he helps secure funding for a project, he will not get the work.

Anonymous said...

You can thank your current mayor for all the work pat Moore has done for the City over the years. They are booty buddies from way back. Delores didn't get to pick consultants anyway. That is a function of the A&E Committee of the City Council and the Mayor. Delores had to work with whoever they decided to pick.

Anonymous said...

Well, what about that super fund money to clean up one of the state's worse enviormental dump sites, The Ruston Foundry? You think that is where the money may come from? I am sure the fund will have plenty of money available for such a worthy project.

Anonymous said...

Why not move the project on the town side of I-49, you know, on some of that property that Gannett owns. Look at that property between Lee and Fulton Streets. That would give downtown another shot in the arm and get rid of some of those eye sores too! At least Pat Moore's walking trail could be used around the new sports complex.

Anonymous said...

Alexandria will one day wake up and downtown will be in the Hwy 28 west area and all the king's horses and all the king's men cannot change Mother Nature. But what the heck, if the pols can rip us off for another 20 mil or so the we can keep things the same for another couple of decades.

A new sports arena that will not draw a crowd to support it's existence. Maybe it will work if the design includes plans for monster truck shows and other redneck games. And while they are at it, plan for some rap concerts to attract the other demographic.

Why would anyone waste their time and money going to any sporting events at the facility? LSU, NSU, Southern, ULL, the Saints, etc. are close enough for fans to enjoy real teams.

Alexandria City Council District 2 incumbent Everett Hobbs will not run unopposed in the September primary election, drawing as an opponent lawyer Darrell Hickman.

I have a question now that someone talked about Ned Randolphs wife Debra. HOW can she work for Rapides Regional at the same time that the City of Alexandria has a contract WITH Rapides Regional? Did not the City of Alexandria just buy land from Rapides and allow them to close a public street? Arent there laws agains elected officials AND their wives from engaging in contracts with people who contract with the city? Maybe Mrs Brewer will find an answer to this when she is asked at the debate. I sure hope Albin or that little dwarf guy that he is partners with .....helps her prepare so she doesnt "mispeak" again. Did she realize what this was going to be like when she decided to run? Cuz when the questions come firing at you you cant look for someone else to answer for you or to do your talking . There is still time Delores.

Anonymous said...

Is "mispeak" a word? Or did some lawyer make it up for situations like this one. Does anyone have the definition of mis speak?

Anonymous said...

Words don't mean anything to politicians. Delores flat out lied about the chance mtg w/the BR attorneys and got up before Goddard and lied her ass off and guess what? Her supporters just shake their heads and feel like there is no one else to turn to. She's their horse and that's it.

Anonymous said...

Delores' first name unknown to many is "Speeke" and we can now refer to her as Ms. Speeke Brewer.

Anonymous said...

Nice try on the Rapides Regional connection but it won't stick. The City has no "Contract" with the hospital. The State owned the Right of Way that Fourth Street was located in. The State gave up control of the road so it became a City Street. Then the hospital bought the street from the City for one million dollars. Harold Chambers worked out the details and by the time anybody got wise it was a done deal. I suppose it was legal but it doesn't seem like a very good precedent. What if Tudor wanted to by the portion of Jackson Street that is adjacent to One Centre Court. Should they be allowed to by a public street and detour traffic through some crazy circuitous route? Well thats what they did. Was it a good decision? Try to get from Upper Third to Downtown and let me know what you think.

Anonymous said...

Poor old Harold Chanbers. He did the whole Rapides Regional deal and no one in city hall new anything about it. It slipped by the mayor and council and Ms. Speeke Brewer was looking the other way. Harold was the problem and now that he's gone we have nothing to worry about. Incidentally is Ms. Speeke complaining about that deal or is it OK w/ her. Are all the other candidates happy with the situation with the changes caused by this Chamberspiracy. If it was a state owned street, although I find that hard to believe, did Dimwit or Bo or Joe Mc OK this deal?

Its official, like High Plains Drifter, you can paint Alexandria RED. Alice "Red" Hammond won Lamar's online poll. Its a new dawn in Alexandria, Red Dawn!!!!!

Approximately 95% of Hammond's votes came from one IP address.

Jacques Roy won the poll.

poor lamar. quoting him on his poll "We can all agree that this poll's sample pool is not exactly a valid cross-section of Alexandria. However, there are some built-in mechanisms that make this poll worthwhile."

Hey, it was worth a shot. I can't say I'm exactly surprised.

lamar, you are doing fine. keep up the effort. we need more like you in alexandria. :)

Town Talk said:

Silver said that before he publicly said he’d run, he sought fellow councilmen’s opinion on if he should run.

“They answered in the affirmative,” Silver said.

Which one's answered in the affirmative? Were they the same one's that were so insistent that Ranson's replacement not run for the seat? Guess it's o.k. for the council to fudge on that requirement if the candidate would be a "token yes man".

I seem to remember that Harry Silver was appointed instead of Mar Lampert who the neighorhood groups wanted because He (Harry) would not run. O Well so much for the council's honesty. I hope the voters remember this when election time rolls around...throw them all out and lets start over with maybe some who can speak the truth.

So is Harry saying the city Clowncil knows who is best at representing the Garden District? He didn't poll the voters of the distric he polled the clowncil? Seems strange. Usually a politician gets the "feel" of those he is asking for their votes not a bunch of ebonic spearkers that probably figure they can control Harry better than a new face.

Only in alexandria would a politican ask other politicians if he should run instead of the voters.

Why would Antoon and Lawson put the "avoyelles lighting" Roy in the mayor's race? To get the puppet CFSmith in a runoff with Brewer or Sams. To have 4 white candidates along with 4 black candidates puts everything back to square one. Deranged Hester thinks he will actually accomplish something positive. Finishing last with just R Johnson as an opponent won't be as bad as finishing behind "Red" Hammond out of 8 candidates.

"Charles F. Smiff going to Scotland Yard to TEACH???? Are you kidding??? You surely can't be serious!!! Have you HEARD him speak? Holy shit, I can hardly understand him let alone people in Scotland!"

Scotland Yard is in London -- but they probably can't understand him either.

Do campaign decisions tell us anything about John "Catfish" Sams? He's has been suckered by Lee Fletcher to pay up front for his website and advertising campaign. This explains the misspelled words on his website and the premature running of TV ads, etc. Why use Fletcher when he committed political suicide himself? Not to bright Dr. Catfish!

CLECO says feel sorry for them . People are exposing them and they don't like it. Cleco says that they have had to raise our rates NOT because they want to but because fuel costs are so high. ClECO says they are good, trust them. LOOK at their financial report today . READ it while you LOOK at your utility bill and see if it makes you as mad as it makes me. These bastards are lying theiving crooks. I pray their deeds involiving Alexandria and MY utility bill will be an issue in this election....just read about POOR CLECO...

Cleco 2Q Earnings Rise
Associated Press
Aug 4, 2006

Utility holding company Cleco Corporation saw its second-quarter earnings significanly rise, primarily because of a hotter
summer, and easily exceed analysts' forecasts.
For the April-through-June period, Cleco posted a profit of
22-point-eight (m) million dollars, or 44 cents per share, on
revenue of 251 (m) million dollars. In the year-ago second period, Cleco earned 20-point-two (m) million, or 40 cents per share, on revenue of 194-point-one (m) million dollars.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial had forecast per-share earnings of 26 cents for the latest quarter.
The company says power sales were up six percent from a year ago, largely due to warmer weather. The company also said it benefited by five cents per share on a storm restoration surcharge approved by the Louisiana Public Service Commission.

You do realize that CLECO was able to actually charge US for the damage they had in Katrina don't you ? I wish I could do that with my business. Of course I do not have a monopoly so if i tried to I would go out of business. It is a damn shame that we are held hostage by these people and there is No competition to keep their rates and spending down. That is why they are able to pay their executives MILLIONS of dollars. Money We are paying in our inflated bills.

Not Scotland Yard! It's Scotlandville. Maybe they can understand ebonics. But on the bright side, when CFSmith becomes mayor he will be required to hire a "white" police chief and a "white" city attorney. This of course is the model Ned set up for him to follow.

Hey , Lamar, why not put that Cleco article on your site. I think those of us who are sweating our ass off because we can not afford to run our air condidioner would like to know that the poor people across the river at CLECO are making record profits.

What does CFS who is in bed with Cleco executives have to say about high utility rates charged to us here in Alexandria?

Anonymous said...

nope, the real reason antoon and lawson put our very own cajun kennedy into the race was to eliminate a white in the run off. they know they can cut a deal with one of the blacks in the run off and continue business as usual. originally they bet on delores, but she drew up lame in two back to back lying sessions caught on tv. oops, i meant back to back "figures of speech". with delores doing the marine float, their greatest fear was sams might make the run off and you know he will clean house. so what to do? persuade roy he is alexandria's savior and hope roy, delores and sams split the vote and basically get say 15 to 16% each. the two major black candidates split
the black vote but pick up say 18% each, and voila, the regime is partying down again. of course, this means no other credible black can enter the race, because it will upset the plan. call sams arrogant, call him delusional call him anything you want. but you have to admit, he is the thing the regime fears most. they have been on the city tit for 20 years, and know sams will bring an end to that chapter of their lives.

You hit the nail on the head ole boy"

Harry is old and has been selling expensive shit all his life, but those boys on the council ain't gonna tell Harry what to do when he has 4 years to give'um hell. Wait and see! He will be the good ole boy's worst enemy. An old Jewish fella ain't gonna let a bunch of bluegummers boss him around. He has a number of businessmen in Alexandria who know he can understand the capitalistic system rather than the welfare state we have now. He's gonna surprise many people who won't support him now. Ask him the tough questions now and see what his point of view is for Alex in the long run

Dear Anonamouse,

Who's deranged? We should have a cup of coffee and discuss who will finish the runoff, Roy or Johnson, unless you are afraid of crazy folks. I would rather put my arm in a limb grinder then go for a swim in a septic tank than run for office here. The results would be the same. Jacque is going to make it real intersting now that he has lots of ammunition.

Not Really a Candidate

You mean to tell me that my bill today which was the highest I have EVER paid is charged to me at the SAME time that CLECO is reporting record profits? Man! How in the hell can we stop this stuff?
