Cenla Antics

Cenla Antics

In reading today's issue of the Town Talk, I was rather taken a back to find that this blog has attracted so much attention. Although I appreciate Mr. White's request of posting authors using their real names, he seems to not understand that it defeats the purpose of the blog. Would Mr. White stand and deliver if he had a problem with his neighbor? (use a scenario that fits here folks). I think not ... it would cause undue harm to relationship that needs to work. Hence the anonymity postings on this blog. Mr. White I applaud your interest and your intent; however, I do not think that it will work in all cases.

Now Mr. White to stir the pot a little. IF the Town Talk and KALB actually did a little investigative reporting this blog would be a moot point now would it not? In they're selective reporting, they have sewn the seed that created Cenla Antics. So Mr. White, in finding the answers to the many questions being asked by the public, would not the "real" media use unidentified sources?

In closing, I am aware that I need to spend some time on archiving old postings. I hope to have this done within the next week or two. I would also like to address a statement made on this blog a few postings back. I have never deleted any postings on this blog. In my opinion to do so would again, take away from the purpose that created this blog.

I remain,

Are you sure Jay Bolen lives inside the Alexandria City Limits?

Anonymous said...

He built and moved into a house outside of the city limits a few years ago. Maybe we could annex.

What's wrong with "Eggspurianz Kowntz" Smith?

Has anyone mentioned the "family" issues with candidate Brewer??? Might want to check out that son a little closer.

"Has anyone mentioned the "family" issues with candidate Brewer??? Might want to check out that son a little closer."

You're shameful. Morgan and Ann are both great people. I know what you're attempting to imply. Give it a rest.

Anonymous said...

Going after someone's kids is shameful. I agree. Someone recently told me that Charles Fredrick Smith has been spreading rumors about Delores' son.

Delores' children aren't running for Mayor, she is. Who among us doesn't have some potentially embarrasing behaviors from our teenage years? If my parents had been judged by some of the things I did as a teen and early adult they could not have won an election for dog catcher. Let's not even go there.

When CFS feels inadequate, which he is, he will resort to dirt slinging.

Citizens need to rally to one candidate. Delores. She will keep the ball rolling toward progress.

All Alexandria should be at the debate when it is scheduled. We
are at a crossroads. C.C.

No wonder so few of us are willing to step up and offer ourselves for public office. If you don't need the job, why subject yourself and your family to all this amazing hate and nastiness. See why decent people like Rick Ranson and Jay Bolen get away from it? And look where we end up.

Did anyone else notice the small announcement from CLECO where one of their bigshots who was involved in the ALEXANDRIA issue was either let go or resigned? Hmmmm...who is next and how much closer does this get us to a refund?

Anonymous said...

If we get a refund from CLECO almost all of it will go to lawyers. If there is any left I wonder how the City will waste it?

Anonymous said...

Poor guy was obviously outgunned by Kelvin and Bridget.

Anonymous said...

the guy cleco let go was their in-house counsel. might be related to the audit, might not. but rest assured of two things. 1. Cleco will be caught cooking the books. 2. johny lunchbucket at most will receive a 50 cent off coupon to burger king.

Hey Carolyn and Scarlett! You two skirts need to quit patting each other on the back and telling each other how smart you are. If you like Brewer, it's a sure sign you don't know your ass from your last bowl of Cherios. You support her because she makes nice at the social events, smiles and acts like she really cares.

She is CFS in a skirt, with better makeup. Get your head out of the sand and wake up.

GREAT STRIDES..facts from a skirt..

1)Over seeing the construction of a new state of the art Public Safety Complex which opened in 1999

2)Same with the new city court building

3)Over seeing the police memorial-

4)ALL major capital projects, in which she was instructed to oversee
Agree or disagree re; walking trail
or its location, that was not her decision to make. Furthermore, millions of public money and (grant
monies) she accounted for with no question!!!!

5) She did not make the decision to build a golf course or where it was to be built, only over saw and coordinated to achive the goal.

She did not solely talk Ned into appointing my husband as the chief of police.

It went like this- Ned ask Ritchie, who is qualified and knows the needs of the city and still is interested. Ritchie's answer was only one person.

Ned was convinced when, Marshall Byrd, Rev. Huey Lawson and Eliza Jones told him to pick the darkest one. That was the right thing to do.

I just believe that Delores is the most qualified candidate for mayor.

We were not invited to join her campaign. We are too controversial in the minority vote area. Thanks to our biased media.

Just setting the record straight-

Point- She did her job! C. C.

We have arrived. Oh wait, I forgot... THIS BLOG IS A SHAM!

How many of you work for one of the candidates? I'd guess between 30-40%.

Scarlett and Carolyn, your ridiculous Delores Brewer asskisser comments are not subtle or unnoticed.

By the way Carolyn, tell your husband that most people assume that when you write something on this blog, you're just doing your husband's bidding.

The public needs to know why you actually feel the way you do. Delores can't take credit for everything positive that's been done during the past four years WITHOUT ALSO taking credit for all the bad shit. Would some mind publishing a list of all the terrible things that have occurred during the past four years? Delores and her supporters seem to have an inflated sense of their accomplishments.

By the way...... I do not support anyone right now, though I am leaning toward Sams (because if you people are so disgusted by him that must mean he's legit).

Anonymous said...

I agree with "Civil" that we really need someone who can develop and articulate a vision for this City. I have yet to see this done yet. Sams at least has an idea of what the issues are but hasn't fleshed out his plan completely. Delores certainly knows what the issues are and will hopefully start talking about her plans to the masses. Charles Frederick and Rosevelt don't really have the intellect needed to develop a plan let alone implement it. However, most of their constituency could care less as long as they promise to get the Gaaabage picked up quicker and get them high light bills down. If enough of them show up to vote we are all screwed.

Anonymous said...

I see where Dr. Sams believes he can be a full time doctor and full time Mayor.

This city needs a Mayor who will devote 100% of their time to leading. Lately, Ned has become a part time Mayor and look where it's gotten us.

I'm keeping an open mind and will listen to the candidates before I decide who gets my vote.

However, I will have a problem electing someone who will not devote the time necessary to to do the job.

Anonymous said...

I encourage you to have a substantive conversation WITH Delores. What Scarlet and Carolyn and the rest of the coven say is meaningless. You have to make up your mind on facts. I have seen Delores on 4 different occassions and she was neither informed nor creative when departing from her script or prepared message. Her radiio interviews were disasters. Don't try to make up your mind about Delores without seeing her in action. I really don't think this crowd is blinded by CFS's light. But I do think we want change.

Anonymous said...

Makes sense. I would be foolish to make up one's mind about a candidate based on what his/her supporters say. How in the world can you ignore the amazing gafs that Delores has made since becoming cheif of staff? We will have a number of opportunities (Michelle's interviews are a major resource) to evaluate the candidates on what they say, how they think, what they know, what they plan and how they explain/defend their respective records. Face it. Everything else is fluff.

Anonymous said...

gaf = gaffe

Anonymous said...

Scarlett & Carolyn, where DOES Delores stand on the key issue or any issue involving Alexandria? She has to check with her "consultant" before she can go on the video blog at KALB, she has to check with her "consultant" before participating in the televised forum on Tuesday, September 12, and her "consultant" has her website with only a message "coming soon, check back later".(I'm sure it will be up and running on September 29, the day before the election.) So, the pattern of governance from Delores as Mayor of Alexandria will be, "before I can decide on the ordinance, economic project or street repair or sewer/drainage project, I will need to check with my "consultant". Why can't she issue a platform? Why can't she just tell the public that Ned's brother-in-law, David Broussard, will be her cheif of staff? The captial projects your girls give her credit for were planned by others, developed by others and were completed inspite of who held the title of "Capital Projects Director". Give the public reasons for supporting her instead of she's a great ole girl.

Anonymous said...

The trailer parked at the Mac's Food parking lot announcing BEARD '07 was confusing. Is Glen Beard running for Sheriff again after getting stomped 16 years ago? Or, is he running for police jury against Jerry Wood? Or, is Senator Joe McPherson the target of Beard? Or, is he running for state rep since Charlie DeWitt is termed out? I guess with his age and senility, he can't make up his mind. Oh, well, inquiring minds will just have to wait until next year to hear the glorious plans from Mr. Beard.

Anonymous said...

The KALB - Sams interview has sure been up a long time. I don't know if it helps or hurts Sams. When will Delores appear? Will the council at-large contenders be given a shot? I agree with those that bill the council-at-large contest as the main event. If there is to be a direction change, that's where its got to come from.

Everything that is wrong with this city can be connected back to the current administration and their handling or not handling situations. WHY would you hire someone who is already on a failing team? You stated that
"Every project you listed was concieved, managed, and finished by Pan American Engineers or some other firm who won the bid on the project"
Pan American was the design firm on some of the projects, not the Contractor. Contractors "bid" on work. Design professionals are chosen, they do not "bid" Just wanted to clarify your error for you.

Now, let me correct you pinhead. Read the words dummy. They are correct as written. EVERY expenditure of public money above $15,000 must be let as an advertised bid. All the above named projects exceeded that amount. Engineering firms do the project management, contractors do the grunt work, but it is all bid!

Point is, Brewer didn't do jack shit on any of these projects but nod her head and agree with the professionals who were holding her hand. Like all politicians, she got credit and somebody else did the work.

So, are these engineers the same ones that drive the train??

Anonymous said...

Wacther,

You are absolutely wrong that anything over $15,000 must be bid. Cumulative purchases over $20,000 for labor and/or materials must be bid. Professional services, such as engineers, are not required to be publicly bid. Professional service contracts are awarded through Council by the A&E Committee.

You obviously have never dealt with consulting engineers. Delores was not lead by their hand; it takes constant oversight by the City, i.e Delores, to keep these guys in check and the projedct under budget.

Just a little useless trivia while i'm at it: Did you know state law requires bids on cumulative purchases over $100,000, but the City has a self imposed limit of $20,000. Looks like we are ahead of the curve for once.

On a personal note: Could you please tone down the vulgar rhetoric. No one wants to hear or read it and it adds nothing to the value of this blog's dialogue and purpose.

Less that 100 at the Delores kick-off, 80 sounds about right. It looked like Nedley's office and Albin's office met on the levee.

Anonymous said...

In my estimation there was no more than 100. When you consider there was freebies and all the other candidates had spies there then the number of true supporters had to be disappointing. I think her campaign is dead before it even gets started good. I know many of her close supporters and even many of them are luke warm on her chances. I think it is ripe for another viable White candidate to take this thing and win. Delores may be nice to some and seem nice but i just do not think it is in the stars for her to even make the run offs. All this without all the barrage that is about to come her way in the actual campaign. Ive heard much of what many of you have heard and I think her campaign may have peaked about 30 minutes after her announcement. She obviously does not do well when she is on her heals and from what ive seen that is coming her way she is going to be backing up and ducking from this point forward. Perhaps a viable candidate could convince her to get out now and free up those dollars for a real candidate without all of her political negatives and baggage that will soon be dumped on her front porch. Not gonna be pretty.

Anonymous said...

And yes David Broussard is running Brewers campaign. He is the brother of the current mayor and yes it appears that its all part of the deal to get Randolphs endorsement. However, he doesnt know he endorsed her and no one cares that he was lead to endorse her. It has NO value. I agree with the previous posting. Brewer has nothing to offer but what he already have. Do you honestly think that 50% plus 1 wants what he have right now? No I do not.

Anonymous said...

What's the Sams/Wagner connection?

Anonymous said...

Yes,the City has had a lot of capital improvements in the last few years. Is there really an assertion that they would NOT have occurred if Brewer had not been Capital Projects coordinator? OK...even if the argument is made that she was responsible which is factually and rationally incorrect, does that make her a good candidate for Mayor? NO it makes her, at best , a good candidate to get her job back for the next Mayor. Brewer is toast. Face it. My only hope is that she will not qualify and that we will have some other qualified intellegent person run. The current field mentioned does not include such a person thus far. The addition of Joe Fuller is not an improvement to the field of candidates.

Anonymous said...

Is it true that although the legislative auditor was called in by Provosty to get Chambers that he is now looking into the actions of Brewer? Would she still run if she were under investigation? Please someone in her campaign answer that question.

Anonymous said...

Delores Brewer can not handle the job with the kind of counsil we have now. We need that guy who was here the other day to run for Mayor. What was his name? Jack Hanna. He has more of the kind of experience we need for handling this Counsil.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if anyone in the world could handle this council but I am sure that this council can't handle and manipulate Sams. Is that enough? I don't know.

Anonymous said...

I agree Sams is the man. If you don't believe it, ask him.

1) "I'm running for Mayor because Alexandria needs me." Thank you for being the next savior of the city. We are not worthy, John Pat.

2)"I'm a cross between General Patton and Jesse Ventura." Great - a dead General and a washed up wrestler.

3) "I will remain a full time doctor and can handle the Mayor's job like I do the school board - after hours." Either he doesn't have a clue what it takes to be Mayor or he is one smart dude. I can't wait until he declines his first invitation to meet with a potential business because he is visiting with a patient who has a sore throat.

Yep, Sams is my candidate. Of course, I still love watching the Disney channel.

Anonymous said...

sams is only running for the attention. Dont you recognize that he was the fat kid in gym that never got picked and now he tries to insult all of the kids who wouldnt play with him and when he can gets to stand up and get attention?....well...this gives him an out from the school board..THANK GOD...and he gets his big ugly ass handed to him . Its just a shame that we the citizens have to participate in his psychotherapy.

I still believe there is a WHITE KNIGHT candidate out there and NO its definitely any of the ones mentioned NOR is it Paul Smith...but i just think there Must be someone.

Why not take the bus over there tomorrow and watch their big show of generosity. If you cant go over ther stay tuned because these self rightous bastards will be promoing their tremendous generocity in a future story on KALB or better yet in one of their WE ARE CLECO propoganda pieces.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone see the story on KALB about the 4th Street road closure and the problems it is creating? This has got to be the biggest example ever of government selling out. Harold Chambers worked a deal between the City, State, and Rapides General to sell them the road for $1,000,000.00 and now we are left with a permanent detour. The circuitous route that is being used now is not capapble of supporting the traffic that is being put on it...and is very difficult to navigate. It is a collection of one way and two way streets, four way stops, and inadequate turn radius'. Many of the staff at the City cautioned those in power that this was not a viable option. We were told to keep quiet and go with the flow. You cannot close a major 4 lane corridor and detour traffic to one lane minor roads and expect it to work.

Anonymous said...

That was the point I made when the deed was done. No one seemed to understand the ramifications or the extent of the project. A major route to downtown is dead now and may just have dealt a death blow to any further efforts for downtown revival. I wonder how that ties in with the LA DOTD oversight in failing to provide a tie in for Upper Third to HWY 165? I smell an upcoming land grab.

scarlett, it didn't seem to offend your delicate sensibilities when someone posted that 1800 people attended.

Anonymous said...

And that's the interesting and telling part - I was there and I doubt there were more than 100 people including the band and preacher but I really don't know. The figure of 1800 was rediculous and the fact that Scarlett let it ride without comment shows that she is a somewhat less than honest, if avid, Delores supporter. I really don't know how many folks were there (I still maintain that it was 100 or less) and I still plan to vote for Brewer but the lesson here is that Scarlett is not truthful.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't agree more.
I will also vote for Brewer, not because I support her, but because I can't support any of the other 3 candidates.

I think we should try to find out as much as possible about her, while there is still time for someone else to decide to run.

When is KALB going to interview her?? Michelle are you listening??

Anonymous said...

The race is on and the committments are made. I don't see anybody else getting into a viable race unless they are already well known and liked like Jock Scott or someone of his high profile and high positive appeal. There also some young guys out there like Jacques Roy and some really talented people like Beth Foote. The problem is the financial and personal sacrifice these people would have to make and the incredible personal and family attacks they would have to endure to offer themselves for service. They think about it and ponder on it and talk it over with their trusted advisors, but in the end, they invariably conclude that there is very little positive to weigh.

wst... said...

its our observation that ms brewer blew her candidacy by not coming out immediately after her leave of absence and explaining her position/involvement in for instance the AHA scandal etc. this is a severe tactical blunder and gives the appearance that she has something to hide by not facing the questions. ms brewers not doing the kalb video blog is another blunder in that it amounts to an 8 to 15 minute on demand 24x7 free advertisement. unless something changes soon ms brewers candidacy is for all intents and purposes over.

Why all the hand-wringing? Spanky for Mayor!

Anonymous said...

There are some questions that have only one possible truthy answer and that may be what she is affraid of BUT they will never go away. For instance, her absolute statement to the council and the community that she and Ned "happened to run into these BR lawyers" when in fact, they had a formal appointment and that meeting was one of the objectives of the BR trip (per the administration clarification memo issue a few scant hours later). It's like the stain on Monica's dress that won't go away. I still can't believe that there haven't been any major reprocussions about her dragging classified employees on her campaign presentations.

All this shows a dangerous and embarrassing lack of judgment, a disregard for the rules, and, with regard to her statements surrounding the housing authority, her husband, her contract bid, and her inlaws, a lack of plain old honesty.

It is also obvious that she won't be making the decisions. It will probably be the same old bunch as Ned but we deserve to know in advance.

I was there also Scarlet, got there early. Take out the Brewer handlers and staff, band, and you got 93 folks....period. Remember to count each person only once sugar britches.

Also the name list was not impressive. No power hitters who didn't have a vested interest in her campaign

it's a shame said... I don't see anybody else getting into a viable race......" i just slaughtered another goat and the entrails read no other viable candidate will enter the race. there does seem to be a significant number of posters who wish a white knight would appear. I don't know if the use of "white" was an unintentional pun or a freudian slip, but the white knight is not coming. i do have a question for the blog, and there are some very sharp posters on this blog. assume dolores in a run off with a black candidate. assume sams in a run off with a black candidate. who is more likely to pick up cross over black votes, delores or sams?

Anonymous said...

Anon, that is the crux of my angst in regard to Delores. The CLECO deal is the visible part of the iceberg. I have heard rumblings about the retirement system and healthcare fund also. By the way, how legal was the 4th street sale to RRMC. What are the guidelines for disposal of public property? Just wondering?

I still feel that Roosevelt is going to wet his pants when he is actually elected mayor as it is shaping up now. What now boss?

Delores C.C.

Anonymous said...

OK, that does it. If Ms. Cicardo can't get cable she doesn't live in the city so she is out of it. I think a good strong woman would be a great direction change for the city - Delores would be no change at all. Maybe Carolyn could sublet Dr. Sam's school board apartment and become qualified.

If you are looking for leadership you have many years worth of channel 4 tapes to review. Has Rosevelt ever EVER shown any independence or leadership or has he just played tag-a-long with Myron. Rosevelt is not a bad guy but his intellectual limitations and his allegiance to certain factions means that he could do immeasurable harm in 4 years.

None of you seem to support anyone.

Is abolishment of the city government an option?

Anonymous said...

That's not fair. I am not against Delores. I planned to vote for her but she has created some very real problems for herself through chronically defective judgment and many of us need those issues resolved before we can decide. Sams is my first runner-up. If a savior jumps in all will change but I agree with previous posters that that is not likely to happen at this late date. We probably need to focus more on the at-large seat. That's someplace we can make a difference.

Anonymous said...

I read in the TT this morning that the fund balance is growing for the city, I can't wait to see what the funds will be spent on. I will bet it won't be anything to benifit the West side of the city....

Roosevelt says if elected Mayor he wants one of those new PRNDL cars as his official city ride. I believe they pimp up more better.

Dr. Sams would make things more interesting. But, I don't think he could get much accomplished.

I admire him for his ability to speak his mind, but it is also a liability.

Why are there no family pictures on his site? He sent his children as far away as possible after graduation. He must love this city, but not for his own children.

Anonymous said...

What does Sams's relationship with his children or Delores's children's problems have to do with the mayor's race? Don't you realize that when you say dumb shit like that you detract from real discussion and make potential candidate cringe with disgust. Let's put your brilliant kids under a microscope, OK?

Jacques Roy
By: By Babs Zimmerman
KALB - NewsChannel 5 Online
Jul 20, 2006

Jacques Roy says he is seriously considering a run for the Alexandria mayor's office.

The 35-year-old Roy comes from a family long involved in area politics.

His father Chris Sr. was a member of the 1974 Louisiana Constitutional Convention and has run for office before.

His late uncle was the long-time district attorney in Avoyelles Parish.

Roy, a Democrat, says he has been approached by people looking for alternatives to the currently formally or informally announced candidates.

And, they are Dr. John Sams, Delores Brewer, Roosevelt Johnson, Charles Frederick Smith and Joe Fuller.

KALB - Babs Zimmerman
Monday, July 17, 2006
Take Five - Flag Poles

"We might as well run some more names up the flag pole.

Slowly, but surely, the names of those considering runs for the state house are trickling out.

Remember, just about everybody needs a job.

In Avoyelles Parish, the name of Retiring Sheriff Bill Belt is being mentioned for the seat for Forced-To-Retire State Sen. and Senate Pres. Don Hines.

And, here in Rapides Parish, the name of Alexandria City Attorney Kelvin Sanders is being touted as a successor to Forced-To-Retire Israel “Bo” Curtis for state representative.

Also, in that race is Herbert Dixon, now a school board member, who will be up for re-election in the fall. That’s a year before the state house races. "

At least Kelvin is trying to find new employment before we get a new mayor.

Roy already has everything he needs to be mayor: a copy of the city charter and a complete set of the Cleco depositions. ROY FOR MAYOR!

Anonymous said...

Before you get all wet about little Roy, just remember his bloodlines. Roy is just another crass, crazy coonass who thinks he hung the moon all by hisself. And can he take the cut in pay from the fees he's run up in the cleco case? Spanky for mayor.

Anonymous said...

Delores' son was involved in an incident in which gunfire was exchanged. However, he was the victim. He and a female companion were shot at. They were blocked in by someone in a parking lot, they asked them to move, they wouldn't move, words were exchanged and the lunatic shot at them. It's that simple.

Anonymous said...

FYI, Jacques has been actively concerned about the operation of Alexandria since he got a close-up and personal view of the administration and counsel in general and Lawson-Smith-Brown-Sanders in particular. He is a strong idealist and finds the current state of Alexandria politics repuslive. If you talk to involved alexandrians, Jacques' name is bound to come up. The question is: "will he do it."

If Jaques gets to be Mayor, I wonder what the new city attorney's last name might be? I'll bet it is a 3 letter word beginning with "R".

If Roy ran for Mayor and won, state law would prohibit him from appointing either his father or his brother as counsel for the City. His cousin -- maybe?

Re: Babs-KALB-Flag Pole-State Races

Another name I heard at the coffee shop for State Rep is Pineville Councilman Kevin Dorn. Dorn would be an interesting candidate to replace forced retiree Isreal "Bo" Curtis.

Remember that Curtis's district picked up a nice chunck "north of the river" when Rick Farrar wanted Randy Wiggins carved out of his district a few years back. It will be interesting to see how citizens on both sides of the river vote to fill an open seat next fall.

Anonymous said...

This just in. Delores Brewer may be withdrawing her name as a candidate. It will be interesting to see when she will make the announcement and who she will endorse.

The following motorists were charged with driving while intoxicated. Names and addresses were provided by the Louisiana State Police and the Rapides Parish Jail.

July 19
Nunnally, Richard Lee, of 3322 Olga St., Alexandria; DWI third offense; APD.

Guess he won't jump into that District 4 race anytime soon.

Anonymous said...

When is Delores going to bail. The sooner she makes it public the sooner the republicans can find a viable candidate. Things have change tremendously now that Jacques Roy may run. He's a nice guy and seems very capable. He could motivate the younger folks to get this town moving.

Anonymous said...

I think this latest arrests gives Nunally 2 pending DWIs, both felony grade, which could net him 10 years in the slammer. Felons can only hold a council seat in district 3.

Anonymous said...

I guess Scarlett will have to spend the rest of the summer at Betty Ford Clinic after the news.

Anonymous said...

My understanding of the decision-making process is that it is better to hang on to the campaign $ for a future attempt, return to city hall and get back on the payroll for several months, and offer to try to sling some support to another in exchange for the prospect of employment in the future. Sounds like a prudent move under the circumstances.

Obviously Ms Brewer would not have arrived at the monumental decisions without the full concurrence of Scarlett who was likely on the next Grill bar stool.

Anonymous said...

Listen pinheads, try and use your limited brain power to think this one through.

Delores won't bail...but her money sources damn shure will.

Everybody knows Delores is delusional and has a greatly inflated opinion of her own ablilities. She won't withdraw, she'll ride this hourse till it drops.

With no money, the ride will be short.

That's too bad because her family's life style doesn't have to go in the toilet with her campaign. She could try to make a smart deal and help the city transition into a new administration. Don't forget, her salary and benefits are on hold also. That's got to be a stresser. She has some smart and pragmatic friends and hopefully they will guide her to a realistic decision.
