You can now answer your phone ...

It's over. Althought I predict that it will still be very interesting to watch what changes, what stays the same, and what disappears in a shell game. The rumors never truly end do they?

After visiting multiple polling places today, I was not surprised at the low turnout. The perfect storm formed today; the LSU game, hunting season and voter apathy. When negative campaigning begins people don't know who to believe and the rumors fly. Very much an old politcal trick, I believe the military calls it "disinformation".

On another note, I have a few personal observations. Michele, yes I am still speaking to you, why would I not? Your report thought was a little Dan Ratherish, if you catch my drift. A big bird told me tonight that William Earl visited the Wagner celebration and was booed. I hope not, that is truly bad manners. I was tempted earlier today to the possibility of sending Laurel wreaths to the winner's of the various races. Then I had a thought, would they even know what the wreaths meant? That's the problem these days ... everyone is to literal, not enough allegorical thinkers or moderates for that matter ...

Now, on to the DA's race in 2008...

Not true, Quint. Hilton was greeted warmly... despite what Big Bird told you.

Anonymous said...

Quint, if you have a spare laurel wreath you might want to send it to Sen. Vitter who now stands all that's bad in politics. Lance truly owes him for this loss.

Politically speaking, it's a new day for Alexandria, and for Rapides Parish. Congratulations to Sheriff-elect Wagner and Representative-elect Roy!!!!

I don't think Lance owes his loss to Vitter. I think Lance owes his loss to Lance. Like them or not, the tactics used by Vitter and co. were successful in many districts. I think Lance was a weak candidate. Everyone knows he hasn't had a real job. People saw through his claims about his license and law office. His only claim to fame was being a former VERY low level aide to Sen. "I like to pay for it" Vitter. There's just no substance to Lance.
That pitiful spot in which he whined that his number is indeed listed in the User Friendly Book hurt rather than helped.

On the other hand, Chris Roy has substance. He is more mature, an experienced attorney, and a family man. Not to mention that he ran a brilliant campaign. There's also the Beard factor. His support of Chris certainly helped. This district could have easily gone to a Republican. The victory speaks volumes about Chris and about the majority of voters. Voters chose the best person for the job, irregardless of party.

In looking at the results of last night’s election I am reminded of two quotes from two great movies.

The first, from Patton: "For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of a triumph - a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot, or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting."

The second from Braveheart: with a slight variation…"*they* will not sit long on the throne."

. . . and Myron Lawson's influence, prestige, and importance becomes even less . . .

That is the real poignant beauty of Dixon, Roy, Wagner victories.

To Anoymous 7:35 a.m.:
No one sits too long on the throne in a democracy. But it sure is nice while you're there. One term is preferable than none at all for anyone who aspires to an elected position. It's an honor and a priviledge to serve as an elected official, whether it's one term or more. You can throw out as many philisophical quotes as you wish, but you can't take their victories away from them. Plus, I wouldn't be so sure that Wagner and the Roys are going to be one termers! If they do their jobs well, the voters will deliver the spoils when they seek re-election.

Let me hear you say Amen, brother about Myron, Bridgett and their lackey, Kelvin, plus their pals on the council. The voters have had enough and they have spoken loudly by electing Dixon, Roy and Wagner.

Yes, I agree. I'll bet even Punkin' Head would rather to have served and lost than never to have served at all!

Hey, ya'll help me with some armchair analysis. LCRM and other Republican machine groups scored victories in legislative races with Chris Hazel, Neil Riser, Gerald Long, Buddy Shaw and who else?
Republican machine was unsuccessful with Dist 25, Chris Roy, Johnson's in Avoyelles and with Sherry Cheek's Senate race (she's Republican but the party dislikes her voting record and supported her opponent). Which other races did the Republicans fail to get victories for legislative seats?
Trying to determine whether the really ugly stuff put out by LCRM was ultimately beneficial or not.

Personal opinion:

The Slocum campaign was heading for the toilet shortly after the first primary but the KALB story finally did them in. Bringing those anti-Slocum deputies out of the closet was a very strong message. That was the point where folks quit responding to Slocum threats and pressure with fear. That's when they knew Slocum, with 48% of the 1st primary vote, was ripe to be beaten.

Jeff Landry, Jack Causey, LaLa LaLonde, Danyelle Taylor, Madary in St. Bernard, Isabella delaHoussaye, Mitch Theriot, Rob Couhig, III, all lost, although they received LCRM support.

Nickie Monica, Richie Burford, Rick Nowlin, the Republican in Sabine Parish, some guy named Perry in Vermilion Parish, Trahan in Lafayette Parish all won with LCRM support.

There are others

I think KALB should turn its attention next to digging deep into school system politics in precisely the same manner as it did the story during the sheriff's race. You people have no idea...

Anonymous said...

Yikes! Someone call the coroner. This blog is dead.

Anonymous said...

Not dead, just taking a much needed rest after all of that politicing!

Anonymous said...

Has anyone heard from Lance Maxwell? I haven't seen him since the ASH football game and he was telling everyone how he dominated Beard and Roy.

Anonymous said...

He went to DISNEY WORLD....no lie..thats where he is.

Anonymous said...

Did Jimbo go with him?

Anonymous said...

Well one thing about it, we know that he didn't go for his children. The democrats exposed he had none.

Anonymous said...

Disney World????????????
The democrats have to be making that up.

Anonymous said...

LCRM and its Dem counterpart, LHDCC, need to go out of bidness. Personal attacks by proxy are repulsive, period. Small wonder fewer and fewer stellar people run for office anymore.

Rumor at the donut shop: Donuts are good for your health! Now that is one rumor I could buy into.......

Anyone have any info on the sex scandal that Sarah Black was involved in when she was at WIAT in Alabama?

Anonymous said...

Rumor has it that she was involved in a lesbian affair with the wife of a news anchor.

WIAT cut their losses...

Anonymous said...

So Sarah Black may have had a lesbian relationship! Well, let's just run her out of town. Or yet, why don't we tar and feather her. Or we could burn her at the stake. Hey, people, this should go under the heading of BFD, big f**king deal! The woman knows weather! I don't care what she does in the privacy of her own life.

Anonymous said...

By all means let's fill this blog with unfounded rumors. You people never cease to amaze me with your creative rumor mill.

The new Jimbo Clause commercials are out, word is Lance will be dressed as a little green elf. He will be passing out membership applications to the Cattlemen's Association and Ducks Unlimited.

First, she's pitiful excuse for a weather guy. Second, it shows that KALB is scraping the bottom of the barrel. But, what do you expect from a mid-market station that is bleeding red ink and has Michelle Godard as their news director?

Anonymous said...

Reckon where Michele got her journalism degree?

Anonymous said...

Fuck you. Watch that cretin, Babs and the Out-of-Towners on KLAX. Just quit complaining.

Anonymous said...

Wow.......there sure are some short fuses on this blog!

Anonymous said...

Michelle doesn't have a Journalism Degree, in fact Michells doesn't have any degree at all except her H.S. diploma.

Anonymous said...

Michelle broke a story about abuse of power at the absolute highest level of parish government. Her expose' took courage, skill, research, lots of work, and the support and confidence of her employer. This was the first real journalism since the Snider administration was stalked by the "shadur guvment".

I care not about Black's sex life. Of course anything other than missionary sex is repugnant (sic?) to our area.

She is a pretty good weather forecaster and her speech is understandeable (a rarity for KALB.) Most of the time you cannot understand a word spoken by KALB reporters except the every day at 5:30 a.m. complaint about hair.

If you want to improve Sarah Black's on the air appearance someone teach her how to dress. All those black pants do is emphasize the size of her ass.
