Breaux for Governor?

I fail to see why he can even consider the possibility? I am not an attorney and ask for an insiteful discourse here folks.

Residency is the issue here. In order for Mr. Breaux to "qualify" he must be a citizen of the state of Louisiana. He has a Maryland drivers license and is registered to vote there. So his LEGAL residence is in Maryland. He has to spend a day more than half the year to qualify for this residency. Therefore he IS a citizen of Maryland, not Louisiana. If he wants to return to Louisiana to help in it's recovery he can move his office here and by office I mean private sector. He is not qualified to run for any office in Louisiana ... if he wants to be Governor he can run in Maryland. If he wants to be Governor of Louisiana, he can move back and run in 2012.

Looks like the Roy administration isn't satisfied with business as usual.

If you are in the mood for some smooth jazz muzak, check out www.alexhousing.org.

I don't understand how an organization with a staff of thirty-five people and a portfolio of only a couple of thousand properties need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year on outside consultation. What's going on with THAT? Why are they in trouble with the State Ethics Board? What are the relationships, if any, between the staff and board members of the housing authority and members of city government? We all know how the city attorney's wife won that big contract. Is this just the tip of the iceberg?

Anonymous said...

I doubt they manage 2000 houses. It's probably a lot less..... which means the need to outsource "consulting" to help them figure out how to do their jobs is even more ridiculous.......

The Babs Legget blog posting on the KLAX page is about 3 weeks old. How lazy is she? All of the controversy swirling around the city government, the sheriff's race, the governor contest, the new Iran hostage crises, and the Weiss & Goldrings retreat and she can't come up with a paragraph of news? Loooooooooooozur!

Damn, Michelle......Lighten up!

It may be true that this type of shit happened in the past with other Councils, but that is no excuse for PRESENT unethical behavior.

Its called affirmative action. Bridgett and Myron and crowd did not have the same opportunitues to engage in political graft and corruption in the past, due to racial bias. Now is their time to make up for past inequities, and steal equally with White politicians. Power to the people (or at least a select few of them) !

I hope you're joking. Myron is bound by the oath of office that he took, and it doesn't matter if he is black or white, the new administration is clearly opposed to any type of unethical behavior. Myron and Bridgette and company love to play the discrimination card... it's the equivalent of blaming unethical actions on their race... and an insult to the thousands of people they claim to represent.

Bridgett has actually said words to that effect numerous times.

Bridgett has also been heard saying "It's our turn now". Perhaps this will hold true with indictments and disbarments also.

Please don't forget that all that money that she is claiming is ours - it belongs to us and Roy is trying to get some or all of it back - Money that we overpaid on our staggering utility bills. And this city council wants her to have it. Amazing! Attorney Phil Hunter was offered some of the $$ for doing nothing and he had the integrity to say thanks but no thanks. He's a good guy.

Pay attention to

Michelle doesn't allow posts too critical to her lack of news coverage. The lack of exposure of the Lawson, Sanders, Brown connection is but one example of how worthless local news is. No matter what Michelle puts on her blog, we see the truth by the news media's lack of reporting.

You really can't generalize. The Town Talk keeps its web page current throughout the day and is posting new stuff all the time. KALB seems like it updates its page every couple of days. KLAX does pretty well considering they are all remote, except for Babs, who, like her husband, only likes to discuss how popular and in-the-know she is.

The other problem, as previously stated, is that the news media can't convene a grand jury - the DA can but won't. This DA, just like his daddy, is all about politics.

blogger said...

Anyone who knows me knows it is just plain tacky to post a negative comment about competition on a website full of people who would love to see the media eat each other up. I remain supportive of Babs in her new position and am thankful for the 15 years we worked together.

Comments on Michele's blog are not edited?

Then why hasn't the comment about the other group of investors turned away by Dean's people at the last minute posted. This was a group that did not intend to ask the city for funding, and only wanted to get in the door to find out how much it would cost to renovate the building. They were also ready to make an offer, had the money to make it happen and Myron and Harry would not have been anywhere near the deal and sure as hell would not have had their slimy asses on the steps of the building at a press conference.

The issue was raised on Michele's blog but it did not get posted.

Doesn't Bridgett represent the Alexandria Housing Authority?

And isn't it true that while she represented them the Housing Authority, under the direction of the mother of Jeff Hall, Bridgett's colleague at the England Authority, they were able to score a lucrative contract for Kelvin Sander's wife (when Kelvin, at time time, was city attorney and rented office space from Councilman Myron Lawson)?

The plot thickens.

Anonymous said...

I think Wanda Hall Davis is Jeff Hall's sister, but either way....

Anonymous said...

THe Housing Authority has been identified by those crooks at the easiest gravy train to hop on board in town.

They don't really have to answer to anyone.

There are thirty staff members responsible for managing 700 housing units. They get friends and family members appointed as lawyers and consultants, and they consistently break ethics laws by funnelling out money in creative yet still unethical ways. No wonder Randolph had them audited, and no wonder we have a problem with assisted housing when the people who are supposed to be helping are just using the authority to line their own pockets.

go watch what bridgett says to the council on wesawthat.blogspot.com.

she claims the city of alexandria SUED EMS.

i would imagine that with all the work ms. brown has so diligently performed on this case that she would realize EMS was not sued by the city of alexandria.

i would also imagine that considering ms. brown was once a lawyer for EMS that she would know what they were claiming.

once again, she has proven that she doesn't know what she's talking about and was put on this case as a political favor.

she probably needs to invoke the 5th (not the 1st) amendment before this thing gets too ugly.

Check out: http://www.louisianaway.com/forums/index.php?topic=710.new#new for a great synopsis on some of the Lawson, Sanders, Brown dealings, which is entitled "Smell Fishy to You?"

Anonymous said...

Background information and cast of characters:

Myron Lawson - Alexandria City Councilman at large (husband of Karen).

Kelvin Sanders - Attorney, and who maintains his offices in Myron's State Farm Insurance Building.

Bridgett Brown- Attorney, and who also has her office in Myron's building.

1). Kelvin Sander appointed City Attorney for Alexandria;

2). Sec. 4-02. Legal division.
(C) Any assistant city attorneys authorized by the city council shall be appointed by the city attorney and serve at his pleasure. Kelvin and Myron's office mate, Bridgett Brown, is signed to a possible multi-million dollar fee contract, representing the City for overpayments made to Cleco. She was appointed even though the City had a law firm from Baton Rouge, with experience in such cases, representing it.

3). Bridgett Brown is given bonding work from the City, although the City already had Jerry Osbourn, of New Orleans, representing it. The City Council approved this, even though it did not appear on the pre-meeting agenda.

4). Kelvin Sanders, on his official City Attorney letterhead, demanded that Rapides Parish Waterworks District 3 retain a bonding company, for which Bridgett Brown was the attorney, even though it also had bonding counsel.

5). Bridgett Brown is appointed the attorney for an Alexandria Housing Authority, which then signs a consulting contract with Kelvin Sanders' wife. The members of that Authority are appointed by the City Council. Numerous irregularities in its books have been found by the Legislative Auditor.

6). Other business relations between Brown, Sanders and the Lawson family:

1). Kree Sew, Inc. domiciled in Myron Lawson's building at
3504 Masonic Drive. Directors: Bridgett Brown and Kelvin Sanders.

2). 3504 Consulting Group, LLC (note the similarity to
Myron's address). Members: Karen Lawson, Bridgett Brown and Kelvin
Sanders.

3). Kelvin Sanders LLC. Domiciled at 3504 Masonic Drive,
Alexandria. Member: Kelvin Sanders.

4). KPK Construction, LLC. Member and Registered Agent:
Kelvin Sanders, 3504 Masonic Drive.

5). Alexandria Affordable Housing Corporation. Registered
Agent: Kelvin Sanders, 3504 Masonic Drive.

6). EAT, LLC. Registered Agent: Kelvin Gene Sanders, 3504
Masonic Drive. Member: Merriell F. Lawson, 4001 Waterford Dr.,
Alexandria.

Recent update: Bridgett Brown has retained council to Intervene in the City of Alexandria's federal lawsuit against Cleco, after being removed by the new City administration and new City Attorney. Brown has publicly claimed that, although the City Charter states that she serves at the pleasure of the City Attorney, she still represents the City that case. He fee was to be 10% of the millions expected in recovery from Cleco. Brown claims her removal was racists, although the present City Attorney is also Black.
Do these deals smell fishy to you?

I am filing a complaint today, with the Louisiana Board of Ethics. The more complaints they get, the more likely they are to act.
The Ethics Board will not act upon anonymous complaints, and the opening of an investigation requires less votes if you have you complaint notarized and mail a copy of the complaint to the targets of your complaint via certified mail.
Here is your chance to do the right thing, instead of sitting back and do nothing but talk about it.

Zero posting - zero interest. Maybe its all been said. The city council that we re-re-elected has already broken most of its promises and most of the people the promised to help will be sweltering and dying in the Alexandria summer heat because we chose to live in Alexandria instead of Pineville. Any relief we get from a Cleco settlement will be distributed among the council friends (and most of us think, indirectly among certain councilmen) instead of the people who overpaid when the city was failing to watch the store in the first place. The big festival of Myron's sold a total of 12,000 tickets over the entire weekend, probably cost the city a bundle, and had less turnout that most other local festivals like the Pecan Festival or Uncle Sam Jam and the mayor has the nerve to call it a success. Crime is rampant and racial tensions feel more severe than during the early days of desegregation. Gasoline is going out of sight but we can ride the buses without getting mugged or robbed or gang raped. The Bentley may eventually come through but realize that we were and are being lied to by Harry and Myron and we suspected that it was a political stunt at the time but were to "hopeful" to react. We are told that we are bad because we don't look like Bridget Brown. We have some Shreveport lawyer reminicent of Algonquin J. Calhoun, barking at the administration with lies, misinformation, threats, and less legal knowledge than one might expect from a 10th grade civics student. The news director at KALB is pretending like she never heard of the Lawson/Brown/Sanders connection. The only person prepared to take any action is Greg who is famous for yelling "the sky is falling" and probably won't follow thru and if he does, will have no credibility or impact.

These aren't "Antics" my friends. This is a full-blown tragedy.

"Did you ever consider that there are numerous hard-working honest people who try their very best to provide the services you EXPECT."

I have considered that these "hard-wprling people" are employees of the citizens of the City of Alexandria. By and large they do not consider them selves employees of the tax paying citizen but an elite group answerable only unto themselves. One only has to look at the overt attempts to always blame someone else rather than accept responsibility themselves.

The City's profession employees, for the most part, could not earn salries and perks commensurate with their current level if they sought employment outside government.

Employees in the real world are expected to be responsible, be well trained and skilled in their profession, complete assigned tasks in a timely manner - in other words be a professional employee.

Find one City employee in a supervisory role that will step up, admit fault and be responsible for a situation.

I think you should realize our founding fathers had a deep seated fear of all things governmental. Our 3 Branches of Government were estabished as a system of checks and balances. The title President was established to insure "King" was not used.

Government exists for one purpose -to provide the citizens collectively services they cannot provide themselves individually such as police protection, fire protection, etc.

It does not exists, as an example, to provide Purchasing Agents with top of the line taxpayer provided vehicles for their personal use.

It does not exists to insure that the current color of the lawyer of the day needlessly gets "their time" to slop at the trough.

It does not exists to provide employment.

GOVERNMENT EXISTS SOLELY TO PROVIDE SERVICES THE TAX PAYING CITIZEN.

It is actually the citizens responsibility to closely monitor government. Had the City Fathers been interested in monitoring government employee activity we would not be in the sorry mess we are now in. The Housing Authority audit revealed the sad state of affairs the City is in. Numerous City agencies could not stand a real audit.

So if I have a "deep-seeded" fear of Government I am in good company - the founding fathers of our Nation.

The garbage department and the utility department are not social programs to insure continuing employment for a certain group of people. We could have improved our services and reduced cost if we had outsourced the garbage service and contracted with Cleco for our electrical power. When Rick Ranson brought it up and suggested that we have a look, he was almost ridden out of town on a rail. What everyone has to remember is that the money they waste and give away to Bridget and the water slide and $80 snacks for each councilman and Lamar's salary for unspecified non-work, and Despino's ride is our money. We have to work to make it and then pay it to the city. Now we want to go into the hotel business so that harry silver's property can have some sort of market and value. OUR MONEY!

Anonymous said...

An example of professionalism by City of Alexandria responsible parties and outside world employees:

How many employeers would have allowed a vendor to charge rates in excesses of the rates charged to other customers without at least asking why?

The utility department just accepts what Cleco charges and passes the cost, along with a confusing utility bill and a tap dance routine, along to their captive customers.

Only when the taxpayers rise up and demand answers does the City even attempt to research the disparity in pricing. Great effort is expended in power point explanations as to how to read a utility bill and little is expended in determining the method of pricing.

City employees in managerial roles would starve to death in the real world. The simple reason is called lack of profit motive/competion. These managers have no earthly idea how to run a competitive business. If the City is not profitable the City raises rates charged to the captive consumer. Out here the customer shops for competitive pricing. Private business has to please the customer governmental doesn't and it is obvious.

Watch the tap dance bull shit routine the department heads run on the mayor and Council. Only problem now is Roy sees through the bull shit. The Amos and Andy show sits there watching information fly over their head. Of course situations such as Fowler selling to Cleco causes lack of interest.

Take that and stick it in your Freedom of Information Act

Anonymous said...

You may be missing the obvious. What if the de facto mayor was a partner in a law firm that did work for both the city and Cleco? Please don't misunderstand, I am not suggesting that you didn't get thoroughly fugged, just that perhaps it is unfair to hold midlevel salaried employees responsible for what the big dogs deposit on our lawns.

"the invitation to review the records may be frustration at the asinine accusations on this blog and an attempt to temper these accusations with the facts."

Facts - is that like the facts that Despino was quoting when he said the letter Frankie was referring to was the one Frankie received on the first rebid?

Fact - is that like the fact that Frankie had to point out to Despino that the letter Despino was quaoting from said the same thing Frankie was saying?

Fact - is that like Sylvester amening Despino's bull shit act to cover his ignorance.

Yea the City employees need to counter the bs on this blog with fact. Problem is the responsible city managers wouold not know fact if they met it at high noon on a deserted street. The department heads have been dispensing bull shit for so long they believe it themselves.

Anonymous said...

The Freedom of Information Act will not negate the fact that Despino, Marcotte and Sylvester made a fool of themselves over the Razz letter. Looked like the blind leading the blind.

Harping about Freedom of Information is just a tap dance to divert attention from their faux paws.

The budget has exploded to 300% of what it was and includes a $50,000 line item for 'personal security' for the Mayor?!?! Body Guards? Perhaps the Mayor only needs to step back and protect himself from a paticular trifling staff member who may be perpetuating lies and encouraging paranoia...

Anonymous said...

Just some explanation. The Freedom of Information Act only applies to requests for information from the federal government. For Louisiana, we have the state's Public Records Law. That law is the center of the controversy in the Pineville vs. Aymond lawsuit. If Pineville wins, you may have to pay for the governmental body's attorney fees for a lawyer to look through the documents you request, thus making if very costly to get such records in the future.
As to the Despino matter, the fact that the letter from his office was in error, did not change the fact that the bid submitted was in improper form and didn't comply with what the City requested. Now we did not see exactly what was submitted, so we don't know if that is true or not, however, the Public Bid law requires conforming bids so that all bidders play on a level playing field.

Anonymous said...

Pandora,
The operating budget has increased from 49.5mil to 51.3~ - hardly a 300% increase - did you mean 3% increase? What's a few 0's anyway?

Anonymous said...

Again tap dance to disguise. Who gives a shit what the letter pertained to. Despino, broadcasted live to millions in tv land, stood before the Mayor, City Council, etc, with Marcotte backing him and Sylvester amening stating Frankie was referring to the wrong letter and the letter Despino was waving was the correct letter.

Then Frankie walks up, points to the paragraph and, in essence, says you dumb fuck your letter says the same.

You can harp on bid law all you want. I am stating neither of the three had read what the letter said and attempted to lie to the council as to the content of the letter.

When Frankie pointed out to Despino what the letter Despino was holding actually said then an administrative error became the catch word.

I am not even arguing over the bid. I am trying to make a point that three of our city's high level managerial types had not even taken time to prepare themselves. The city nfolks are so accustomed to getting things the way they want it they do not even prepare themselves.

You are not missing the point your clouding the point by bringing up the fact that Frankie's bid was not proper. So the City's credibility is zero. Even though now the excuse is Frankie's bid was non-responsive he was sent a letter saying the matter would be rebid. It was not.

Purchasing at alexandria has no credibility. The bid was awarded to a higher bidder, an out of state bidder while telling a local bidder they bid would be rebid. That is credible action on the part of the Purchasing Department?

You screwed up and refuse to take responsibility. You are running bull shit to cover your stupidity and lack of credibility. This dog and pony show is indicative of how the City has been running purchases. Blame the contractor/vendor for City screw ups.

Now go right in your taxpayer furnished vehicle and find a purchasing emergency.

"piyush claims that he is a roman catholic. catholics are not christians. catholics are their own separate and distinct religious faith. christians believe in a personal relationship with jesus christ. catholics do not - they pray to mary and a host of saints to interceed to jesus on their behalf - heres an interesting story wherein a nun prayed to the late pope john paul 2 - this is a totally foreign belief to christians. christians believe in being born again. catholics do not. catholics believe that the pope is infallible and speaks as god himself. christians believe that all are sinners. catholics have their own bible - the latin vulgate. catholics have historically such as during the inquisition sought to exterminate anyone who does not as they do swear allegiance to mary (semiramis) and the pope."

Spanky-
I was referring to the executive budget portion. My apologies for not saying that. The new hire portion is paticularly interesting-almost as interesting as some of the individual new hires themselves. Looks like the new guard is already up to the old guards tricks...favoritism and elitism. We did get the transparecy we were promised-just not in the form we expected. The new administration is quite transparent indeed.

Well We Saw you need to read up on your history. All protestant religions sprang from the Catholic Church, which for most of the time Christianity has existed was THE Christian Church. As to the Vulgate, which is the earliest Christian Bible, possibly more accurate as it was compiled closer to the time of Christ, that circular argument can also be said for Protestants that they have their own Bible.
From you own Bible We, it says that Christians are those who believe that God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to live among us and die for our sins, and 3 days after he rose from the grave. Catholics fit that definition. What gathering of Protestants do you speak with the authority of to define what a Christian is? This is perhaps the most off the wall thing you have come up with yet.

the Hail Mary is a prayer asking Mary to pray for us "......Holy Mary, Mother of God, PRAY for us sinners, now, and at the time of our deaths. Amen." that is no different than a Baptist asking brother or sister so and so to pray for them. We just take a more direct route. "We" has managed to offend Jews and Catholics. She's on a roll.

Sounds like Pandora is really educated about the city and its budget. Sounds like Pandora wanted to become a part of the new guard but was out-bidded.

Wow, amazing powers of deduction there Sherlock. I mean the obvious guess that I saw a copy of the budget (how many copies are out, by the way?)is just way too, well-obvious. You got me. How about Spanky. He is wise on the budget subject-is he a fellow disgruntled wannabe?

Any time you question the financial transactions of the City - Budget, paying for entertasinment events (boxing), purchasing procedures, etc you are going to get belittle, disrespected, smart-mouthed and bullshitted with a tap dance routine by a city employee blogging as anonymous.

The deadheads are still struggling to defend the trough.

Your absolutely correct. That piece from Evan Sayet was GREAT.

Glad I took the time to watch it through. It was worth it!

Okay, nice diversionary tactic on calling me out...anyone care to comment on the fact that the mayor is requesting money for private security? Are there any other mayors (of cities the size of Alexandria) that have BODYGUARDS? How about putting the 50 grand into the police force in an effort to make us ALL safer?

Anonymous said...

Mayor Roy is standing up to some people and factions that are not used to being scrutinized and if 50K will make him feel more comfortable and confident in what he is doing, I am all for it. There are lots of folks losing their first-class seat on the gravy train. They won't be happy.

Also, this mayor has a style of reaching out and mingling with the rabble. He has a wife and small child and deserves to feel secure.

"rab·ble
–noun 1. a disorderly crowd; mob.
2. the rabble, the lower classes; the common people: The nobility held the rabble in complete contempt.
–verb (used with object) 3. to beset as a rabble does; mob"

Roy considers his constituants rabble? How condecending.

Why don't they just transfer one of the fat ass cops that have desk jobs to protect the Mayor? I guess most of them couldn't run very far, unless its to the bathroom.

Anonymous said...

I don't know what Roy thinks but I consider many of his constituents rabble. The fact that the word threw you and sent you to Websters illustrates the kind of people he has to deal with.

Pandora,

From your posts it seems that you are a juicy little box of information regarding the proposed city budget. You obviously read it, studied it, and know exactly what each proposed funding is for. Please give us more of your information. What exactly is the funding being requested for? Is there any funding the city council is asking for that we should be aware of? Is the new guard really acting like the old guard? Are you really greek?

Just in case any of ya'll are interested, The Northside Journal has reported on their website that the Jena Choctaws have gotten clearance to build a Class II casino in Grant Parish

"You are not missing the point your clouding the point by bringing up the fact that Frankie's bid was not proper. So the City's credibility is zero. Even though now the excuse is Frankie's bid was non-responsive he was sent a letter saying the matter would be rebid. It was not."

The point is clouded by the facts?
What kind of oxymoronic, double speak is that?

The facts as I saw them on the replay are this:
- Razz did not correctly submit its bid forms.
- His prior bid was rejected for a similar problem.
- Razz had the low price; he controlled his own destiny.
- There was a mistake in the rejection letter he received.

Did the mistake in the letter look bad? Absolutely. Did it affect the outcome? Absolutely not; two wrongs do not make a right.

From all of the converstaions, it seems evident that the law is being fairly and consistently applied.

One more question: how is this an issue of the trough?

If this were a Republican mayor, ie. Delores Brewer, asking for bodyguards, you all would be screaming at the top of your lungs. This is a hoot. Why would a "scrappy" guy like Roy need a bodyguard. This is hilarious.

they're hiring a security guard for the entire city complex, which they do not have right now. this is not a personal cop for roy

I cannot fathom what part of Despino, Marcotte and Sylvester looked like dumb shits explaining to the council that the letter Frankie was referring to was relative to the first rebid when the letter Despino was waving was the letter Frankie was referring to.

Fuck the bid. You people looked ignorant. That is my point. I am not trying to say Frankie or the City is right worng or indifferent. despino and Marcotte did not know what the letter Despibno was reading from said. Sylvester was ameniang the bull shit Despino was spouting.

Frankie walked up and showed Despino his letter was the one Frankie was referring to. Despino then swapped to a clerical error tap dance. You people try to cover your ass by making folks look like they do not know what they are talking about when you havn't even read your own dayum evidence.

Despino, Marcotte and Sylvester, as professionals, were a joke. Despino read a portion of the letter to Frankie omitting the part that Frankie was referring to. When Despino, Marcotte and Sylvester could not make that part go away they blamed it on a clerical error. A high level supervisor signed a letter with a gross error? Who was it - O.K. Allen - that would sign a leaf if told.

You keep trying to make the bid the point. The point I am making is the trio were unprofessional, unprepared and looked like clowns or maybe just typical city management.
