This year we start another round of statewide and local elections.
This year we will elect a new Governor. Current polls place 1st District Congressman Bobby Jindal at the top, polling above 60%. Governor Kathleen Blanco isn't mustering half of that percentage.
From what I have "web garnered", the voting public is unhappy with the entire current top tier of government, with the exception of State Treasurer John Kennedy.
On the local level, we will be electing/re-electing State Senators, State Representatives, Coroners, Tax Asssessors, Police Juryman, Clerks of Court and Sheriffs.
So far candidates announced are Glenn Beard for State Rep Dist. 25; Herbert Dixon, State Rep Dist. 26. The big race looks to be the Sheriff's race (Rapides Parish). William Earl's retirement leaves a field of three vying for the job: Mike Slocum, Bill Robinson and Chuck Wagner. Already my ears have heard the rumblings of what may turn out to be a rough race. The dumptrucks are being prepped.
Anyone care to guess who will take the elections?

Looking at the content from the last week, it is evident that many of the commenters do not care about facts. If so, they would spend more time getting their facts correct instead of ranting rumors and lies.
Unfortunately, this blog has attracted a group of LOSERS, HATERS, RACISTS, and DUMBASSES. (Please know that nothing is absolute. Every racist isn't white. However, all of you suffer from being the BIGGEST LOSERS.
What is wrong? Did you run out of Prozac? Or is this a group of Methamphetamine junkies?) You lie and spread rumors about matters that can be easily proven not to be so. Do you think everybody is ignorant or are you just entertaining yourself?
If you lost the Mayor's election GET OVER IT! If you didn't get a job in the administration, GET OVER IT LOSERS!
If you can't stand this change in the tide, you better pack your bags and move out of the city (completely not the surrounding towns).While you gossip and spend all of your time lying on the new leaders of this city, remember you are only making their names even bigger!

i think it is a shame that a person that only wanted to help you people gets her whole career discredited because ned randolph has loss all control of his faculties and she took up for him.
that's the conception of the "lie" and the bottom line.
without her display of loyalty to her previous employer there would've never been mud to sling.
if you actually knew her you would know that she is not the sinister politican that you've managed to make her out to be.
my only question is for ned. why would you not vendicate the only person that ever watched out for you after harold was fired.

Alexandria Housing Authority can't account for more than $400,000, legislative audit shows

The state Legislative Auditor’s Office has found the Alexandria Housing Authority can’t account for more than $400,000 paid to a New Orleans consulting company, SMART Inc., from May 2002 to January 2006.
The Legislative Auditor’s Office, which started investigating the Housing Authority last year at the request of then-Mayor Ned Randolph, also found that Executive Director Wanda Davis violated the authority’s check-authorization policy.
Davis got around the authority’s policy of her not being able to co-sign checks greater than $25,000 by directing “the accounting department to reduce single checks exceeding $25,000 to smaller, multiple checks below $25,000 ...,” according to the auditor’s report, completed Wednesday and released on the auditor’s Web site today.
The auditor also suggested that the Housing Authority might have broken state ethics rules because an authority employee, Patrick Waller, also was being paid by SMART as a consultant in 2005 while employed with the authority.
The Legislative Auditor’s Office recommended the authority report the possible ethics violation to the Louisiana Board of Ethics.
In a response to the auditor’s findings, Housing Authority attorney Bridgett Brown wrote that the agency that provides affordable housing to the poor had retained its own attorneys “to review the findings of your office, its contracts with Smart, Inc. to make recommendations on how to recover any overpayments to Smart, Inc.
“Once that legal review is done, the Alexandria Housing Authority will proceed quickly to recover any overpayments made to Smart Inc.,” Brown states in her response.
She also said the Housing Authority has “self-reported the possible violation of the Louisiana Ethics Code” by Waller.

Smart Inc is the design consultant that did the work for the new housing development that AHA is developing on Enterprise Road. Let's say fir the sake of argument that it is a 4 million dollar project. The standard design fee is 10% of construction cost so the consultant would bill somewhere in the neighborhood of $400,000.00 How in the hell can you overpay $400,000.00 on a design contract that can't be worth much more than that? Somethings fishy!
