For God's sake people, my ownership of this blog has never been a secret. Those of you who ACTUALLY know me, know that I do not readily have the time to "sit" on this blog. I have a business, a new daughter, home renovations, community involvement, etc ...
If this blog is so unpopular than why have a vast array of similar blogs e-blossomed? They have actually capitalized on the name through their highly intelligent creativity (same name different blog company, or by the spelling of Antics with an "x"). Why? No original thought process ... "Beam me up Scotty" ... I did not know that Alexandria had so many parrots.
Jacques, good luck my friend, it's a hard battle to fight but fight the good fight ... there are individuals within this community who think for themselves, do what they can for the community and now matter how much unfiltered horse manure is spread, are still able to grow healthy and useful "seedlings" not weeds.

It is absurd and ridiculous to think that Lamar or his so-called allies would ever post such drivel about himself and his family. What you're finally seeing is something that many of us have been warning about-- Cenla Antics is filled with bigots and jealous assholes who will say anything for sheer shock value, just to garner a little attention.

I have been reading this blog for several months and, until now, have not felt compelled to comment myself. However, after reading last night's comments and the hateful words used to describe Mr. White's physical disability, I must do so. My father was, A.O. "Gus" Perry. He had a physical disability too. A horse threw him when he was 16 years old and he broke his leg. As a result, he walked with a limp for the rest of his life. He did not let this deter him in any way. In fact, if anything, he used the adversity he experienced to help make him a better, more successful person. He served over 50 years as a law enforcement officer. He was a Pineville Policeman, a Rapides Parish Deputy Sheriff, and the Pineville City Marshal for 18 years.
I have a very vivid memory of being 6 years old and walking into the old Pineville City Hall with him. He was a Pineville Policeman at the time. A man greeted him by saying, "Hi, Gimp". I later asked my mother what the word meant. She told me it was an ugly way of describing a physical handicap. I still remember the anger I felt at the time.
Daddy used to tell me about he would go to the local draft office every week during WWII to try and sign up for the military. They would say, "Here comes that cripple boy again and laugh."
Words like "gimp" and "cripple" should have no place in our society. They are hateful, hurtful, words and serve only to show the true nature of the person who uses them. I do not know Mr. White. I do know that he should be judged based on his ability and not on his disability.

My belief is that the racist element of our city saw a Sams/Johnson run-off election and surmised that our fair city would have a black mayor and a black council. Panic ensued. After resorting to their 4th choice (Jacques Roy) and pushing $$$$ into the race, they were happy to see Brewer make the cut. Their fears were relieved and the deal cutting could begin.
However, four years from now Johnson will be the only black candidate facing Roy, and many white voters will happily pull the Johnson lever, if these types of appointments become the norm.

While I agree your point is very well taken, I suggest to you that you have overlooked mine. The key phrase here is “is allowed to keep posting to his blog…” If Roy is to be viewed as ethical and confident of his policy, he would not fear the media. He would also insist that young Lamar CEASE his association, in any way shape or form, with the CenLamar blog. Blogs are by nature editorials, and reflect the opinion of the poster. Should Roy allow young Lamar to continue his pontification on his blog, he should at least restrict young Lamar from addressing anything to do with local government. Should Roy not do this, we would be left to assume that anything read on CenLamar would be nothing more than applying “lipstick to a pig” with young Lamar attending to the application.
In effect…all credibility of anything released by the Mayor’s office would be lost. Imagine the credibility Michelle Goddard would have as a newscaster, if she announced that she would continue to work for KALB while drawing a paycheck from the Mayor’s office.

It is not Lamar's credibility which shall be suspect, it is the Office of the Mayor of the City of Alexandria.
In order to retain the credibility of the message, Lamar should be required to completely divest himself from any association with any form of journalism, blog or otherwise.
Failure to do so makes any message originating from the Mayor's Office suspect.

Mr. Carriere has started a forum here where EVERYONE can speak their mind without fear of censorship...including you.
This forum has no connection with the Republican party, in fact it is more constitutional than partisan. Mr. Carriere's political party of choice could have just as easily been Democrat and still believe in the first amendment.
Mr. Carriere has constructed a building and opened the doors to everyone. You propose to label the building Republican and condemn those who speak there as un-American.
Then, you attempt to label those who display crude, intolerant behavior as Republican and convince others that ALL Republicans must think and behave like those you label as bigots. Painting with a rather broad brush aren't we?
Perhaps you should consider that those you condemn could easily be Democrats.

There is a huge difference in the situations you speak of. Mayor Jacques Roy is an elected public official and as such his appointees are also. Their salaries are paid with public money. The public has a reasonable expectation that their elected officials will be both truthful and unbiased when dealing with the public that pays them.
Mr. Carriere is NOT a public official, and is not paid with public funds. He is a private individual who has chosen to participate in the political process as a member of the Republican Party. As a private individual, he founded this blog. The public cannot expect, nor were they told that this blog would be sanitized and served to them in a politically correct way. This blog is crude, and nasty, full of lies and truths, intelligence and stupidity, loyalty and betrayal. This blog is a reflection of real life in all its horror and beauty. It is up to each of us to decide what to accept and what to reject. You can choose to join in or sit on the sidelines, but you cannot change the flavor that makes CenlaAntics what it is.
To do so would silence and destroy this forum, but, perhaps that is your real goal.

To those who attack Lamar Jr. because of his physical handicap. I have found that most people who attack others in this way are usually trying to divert attention from their own handicaps. Also, the idea that every Republican agrees with the nasty, rude and socially unacceptable comments about Lamar's physical handicap is absurd. Many public officials operate their own blogs. They have the right to do so. I also believe that Lamar or any other citizen has the right to sponsor a blog.
But I do think that Mayor Roy and Lamar White have some decisions to make. If Lamar is going to work for the administration, it seems to me that he should either give up cenlamar in its present form or convert it into Mayor Jacques Roy's blog site. Again, that would be perfectly legitimate. A Mayor Roy blog site could provide information and and an opportunity to dialogue about city issues. Very grassroots. I like it.
But I don't believe Lamar can have it both ways. It is not possible to be a journalist is the traditional sense of the word and a mayoral assistant. His credibility would always be questioned. In fact, the person who compared it to say, Michelle Goddard working at KALB and for the administration made a legitimate analogy.
I am not trying to demonize anyone here. The issue is shades of grey rather than black and white. We are charting new territory with the proliferation of the blogosphere.
I think Lamar and the mayor would be well served by playing it straight regarding cenlamar to avoid giving citizens a reason to question their integrity or motives. In other words, Lamar must decide whether he wants to be a mayoral assistant and operate a Mayoral blog or an independent journalist who writes objective news stories and subjective pieces in support or opposition of Roy and others. In my opinion, Lamar would best serve his Mayor and himself by making such a decision.

If I work for, volunteer for, am a member of any group that requires me to publicly support them, recriut or fundraise for then I represent that group in every situation that I am in. If a paid employee, appointed board member, or volunteer that is known in public to be closely associated with (non-profit/political group/public org etc.) exhibits public behavior that is unacceptable or offensive-people associate it with the orginization that they represent-weather it be working hours or not. Why is it that does not cause a HUGE ETHICS violation or something of the sort???? Is this not a case where public dollars are being handed over to a private enterprise in order to "purchase" by winning this contest a sponsorship package that all other businesses would have to write a check for? I understand tax dollars are collected and distributed for educational purposes, which I have no problem with. I understand we give incentives and provide workforce training programs to help our businesses grow, but this just seems wrong.

I also don't believe we should put up $15,000 for the next fight event at the Riverfront. This Dana Pitchford person comes to town, wants the Riverfront at no costs, but has to pay for it. He gets sponsors for the event and the City gives him $15K. What's wrong with the picture????? We're essentially handing him the money to pay for the Riverfront Center. He is using his sponsorship money to pay for the fighter's hotel rooms, travel and the acutal prize money the are fighting for. Why can he not raise enough money without the City to pay for the Riverfront? If our individual Mardi Gras Krewes and other groups who rent this facility on for everyday events can, why can't this "promoter"? Better yet - why isn't GAEDA handing over all of the money this guy needs?

By the way, a grassroots movement simply implies one that evolves from a group of citizens who are not typically viewed as possessing power and influence. Anyway back to the topic at hand ...
First, I have never been afraid of having an intelligent discussion with ANYONE - that would include you. Your feeble attempt to throw around large words to make others feel inept doesn't bother me one bit.
Second, I more than well know that government is made up of more than one idea, one concept, and one belief - yes I do know what plurastic means. I also know what it takes to have legislation written and passed, the consensus building process, the give and take on issues to accomplish the goal.
Third, when you chose to put someone down because they reverted to the "tar and feather" type punishment if we all decided to waste our energy on your demise, you failed to recognize that in the days of our early founders, this was quite acceptable. I must also mention that many persons were also burned at the stake by people who considered themselves to be quite intelligent and all-knowing. I believe those who condemned others to the stake also considered themselves to be high moral persons of the community protecting their citizens from evils, thus burning the evil doers, known as witches and warlocks. Which one would you consider yourself to be? From your posts it appears you are condemning us to the stake.
Finally, I don't believe anyone has accused anyone doing something illegal - YET. We have challenged the hiring of certain persons. We have also challenged the ETHICAL issues of attempting to remain a "journalist" while serving as the public relations person for a governmental entity. We have also questioned whether or not this person can be involved with redeveloping Bringhurst now that he is a "city employee." For that, my friend would be both ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL.
In the same sentence you complain of one poster capable of only derogatory comments and you call him ignorant and simple. Do you see the hypocrisy here? And you are in fact the ignorant one, who either can't spell pluralistic or doesn't know what word you are looking for.

An example of the fact that the public education system has deteriorated from the 60's to the rampant illiteracy of today. Get a few books on history, geography, phylosophy, the classics, a few novels and get someone to read them to you, explain them and then come back and sit with the grownups for a few years listening with your ears and talking less with your mouth. Just maybe by then you might be able to offer an opinion of merit. As of now you are just an example of why some mothers eat their young.

There is one reason we look to history - to discover the mistakes so we will won't repeat them - or perhaps you haven't heard the phrase - history repeats itself.
Some on this blog were very active members of this community 20 years ago when Ned was elected. They remember the state the City was in. I for one, was in school and did not pay much attention. I do remember the famed catfish pond and the "monkey" remark during a city council meeting. I pray those types of things will NEVER been repeated in our city. Although at times we have come close - we have been considering after all a waterslide.
You want some ideas here is ONE -
Clean up the exits at both MacArthur Drive ends of I-49. Put codes in place that require certain type of businesses with building restrictions. We presently have a dumpy hotel in the Crown Plaza and a bunch of mini storages on one end of town, not to mention an apartment complex that burned several months ago which hasn't done anything to begin to repair the unit. The other end has a vacated truck stop, junky trailers and other vacated businesses, one the battery place looks as if it could fall over in the next big wind story. If you want people to get off MacArthur and visit our city, eat in our restaurants, and spend the night, you need to make it at least look presentable. All the money was spent downtown where there is NOTHING except the arts, government and two hotels. Now that made a lot of sense!

Does anyone know what ideology currently controls the Town Talk? Seems a bit slanted to the Republican side. Jindal gets front page everytime he's within 100 miles and speaking to more than 2 people. The publication is very minority oriented and that usually means a republican slant. Their opinion page usually sport a bunch of charismatic preachers including Cal Thomas and a right wing negro. I think you might be right.

My friend, I do believe you, along with most of us here want to see this City change, that is afterall what we voted for. You, on the other hand see a need to embrace only those of a higher level, not those of the who, as you put it participate in "moronic behavior" to paraphrase. After working to grow this community for the past few years, I can certainly say one thing I know to be fact: it takes all people, including those who act like morons on occasion, to get the job done. In fact, some of those morons happen to come up with the best ideas, they just don't know how to get started or where to turn for help. This is far from the truth. However, Mike Slocum has based his entire campaign around this accusation. Oh wait, and the fact that outgoing Sheriff, Sir Hilton has endorsed Slocum as his replacement. I can’t imagine that Hilton’s endorsement could amount to much after his last interview on KALB where he admits to letting the local criminals walk because the department has NO MONEY to detain them. Someone should ask him how his current administration manages to blow all of the money that they receive from his ½ cent sales tax.

To the Anon asking about Bill Robinson, you can request to view the documentation regarding that alercation involving Bill from Sheriff Hilton's office; ask to see documents regarding the disciplinary boards decision.
And, Anon 10:30, what an idiotic comment to make about Major Slocum. He does have Sheriff Hilton's endorsement, but he is not basing his campaign on that--give me a break! He's basing it on the fact that he is the most capable, most qualified candidate and his record within the department proves that.

One question. If Slocum is so confident in his qualifications, then why does he feel he has to place so much pressure on his employees to support him and to smear the other 2 candidates. Easy answer- He is scared. He thought Hilton’s endorsement would be his golden ticket but, he sees now that it will take a lot more than that!
Brother Aymond did not fare so well in today's op ed piece by Lawyer Faircloth. I wonder why he is electing to litigate this in the Town Talk? Aren't there court rules that prohibit parties engaging in this kind of a campaign in pending active litigation? He needs to save his argument for Judge Swent.
Faircloth: Records request issue about cost not access

I am writing in response to the article of January 23, 2007, concerning the dispute involving the public records request made by attorney Greg Aymond on the city of Pineville.
The article reflects a editorial slant in favor of the public records law, notwithstanding its clear misuse on this occasion against an administration that sets the bar for integrity, responsiveness and public transparency.

For starters, I was interviewed by Mr. Gunn for the article and made it clear that the dispute was not about access to public records. Rather, it's about who should bear the cost for an outrageously broad request: the person making the request or the taxpayers?
Yet, the article was headlined, "Pineville fights bid to access e-mails...", which is superficially accurate, but substantively misleading.
True, the city opposes Mr. Aymond's unchecked access to 10,000 e-mails that have not been screened to assure that the City does not violate law by producing exempted or otherwise non-public records.
But Mr. Aymond will get every e-mail that the city is permitted by law to produce.
The rub here lies in Mr. Aymond's attempt to force the city to incur the cost of separating the exempted from the non-exempted e-mails.
Additionally, the article hints at a personal side to Mr. Aymond's request, by vaguely referencing his service for Waterworks District 3 while Mr. Dupree served on the board, but does not provide any of the details that would give the readers a clear perspective about why Mr. Aymond would ask to view every e-mail to or from Mr. Dupree during the past five years.
To be complete, Mr. Aymond was the attorney for District 3, he was relieved of that position by a 6-3 vote of the board while Mr. Dupree was a member, and he blames Mr. Dupree for the loss of his position.
Following that ordeal, which was widely reported in The Town Talk, Mr. Aymond made his animus toward Mr. Dupree well known when he filed a lawsuit against Mr. Dupree despite a Louisiana law granting immunity to appointed members of governmental boards. The suit was dismissed as a matter of law.
His vengeance apparently not satisfied, Mr. Aymond now portrays himself as a public crusader on a mission to find evidence of "wrongdoing" on Mr. Dupree's computer.
Simply noting a "rancorous relationship" is hardly a fair explanation of the relevant history behind this story.
Perhaps the simple explanation is that the article was incomplete. To that, I hope my comments provide some clarity.
But on this occasion I can't help but wonder whether The Town Talk used a carefully crafted version of the story as a stalking horse for its agenda to champion the public records law at all costs.
I agree that the public records law is monumentally important in a free society, but I also agree with the old sayings about one bad apple and killing the goose that laid the golden eggs. The public records law is threatend by promoting its use as a shield for a personal vendetta.

Hmmm, Do I detect the aroma of bullshit in the smoke? Using Mr. Faircloth's figures of 10k-25k pared to a labor only function, that should buy anywhere from 6 months to a year of time for a single clerk. Does it take that long and if so, maybe there are some nursing home residents that would be willing to expedite the process. Stone walling is what the tactic is called I am sure the judge will be none too pleased with the barnyard aroma that will invade her court on February the 5th.
As to investigation status, you will have to ask the feds.

Let me tell you folks a couple things regarding Title 44 and public records requests. I have made several such requests in the past and can assure you that when you make the request, it’s best to be as specific as you can with what you are looking for.
Despite what you all might think, public officials ain’t stupid. Ask for any document and they can guess what you’re looking for and why. Then they will produce hundreds of pages relevant to your request and promptly charge you as high a $3.00 each to get the copies. Yes, you can VIEW the copies for no charge, but if you want copies, ya gotta pay for them.
When I go to the courthouse or any other public body , I request to VIEW the documents first. Then I flag the ones I want to take with me and ask for copies of ONLY those.
What Aymond wants to do is VIEW everything. This is ok if the non public e-mails have been removed first. Since Dupree’s e-mails are all in one place, in ONE ELECTRONIC FILE, somebody would have to read each e-mail and move the non-public e-mails to another file. Then Aymond could look at the public e-mails and get what he wants.
Faircloth wants Aymond to pay for somebody to separate the files and Title 44 allows Faircloth to do this.
Obviously Aymond doesn’t want to cough up the bucks to get the copies and wants Pineville to hand them over at no charge.
I think Aymond should have to pay for his documents just like the rest of us.
With all do respect Spanky...you seem to overlook Mr. Aymond's real agenda in his request...to be a pain in the ass to Dupree. If you can ignore the "vengeance" factor in what Aymond is doing as "Captain Courageous", exposing all that is evil in city government...then you really don't understand the debate as you claim. That's why he sued Dupree for slander and defamation (and lost!) and that's why he is asking for something that no one else, on any level, is requesting of our local government officials.
Do you really think this is about the cost or obstruction? Pineville didn't mind spending big bucks on a coronation. Uncovering government sneaky stuff shouldn't be dollar-dependant.

The figures came from the TT article as a quote from Mr. Faircloth by Mr. Gunn. I am just repeating what is given to us by our newspaper as accurate as it may be. Why is Mr. Faircloth objecting to an in-camera session by the judge? Her viewing of e-mails on their computer to judge relevance and content to make a judgement might cost a couple of cups of coffee and her time. Get real folks.

Whether or not I am the right or wrong person is totally your opinion and you are entitled to have one. I assure you I delight in conversing with people from many different walks of life. Some of which are similar to mine but many that are different. An inclusive community is one of the things that makes life interesting.
Wealthy, less fortunate, educated, under educated, illiterate, white, black, hispanic, disabled or disadvantaged. We are all people and deserve equal respect.
When you release words and actions that are negative (and purposely malicious), it boomerangs back to you. Simply stated,if you live in a glass house, it would not be wise to throw stones. Somebody might throw one back.
In order to lead and make effective change (that will be beneficial to everyone),we must do so with statesmanlike behavior. Lets hold ourselves accountable to the same standards that we adamantly judged others by.

I bet that the cost of resisting Aymond's request will be greater than the cost of satisfying it. What does that tell you?
I would also note that 10,000 e-mails divided by 300 workdays divided by 8 workhours = 4.17 e-mails per hour divided by 2 to factor two years worth = 2.09 e-mails per hour. Does Mr. Dupree do anything else with his time beside compose e-mails or are the figures being exagerated? The pot may become too hot to hold the lid down for much longer.
So you are advocating letting someone use the "public records request" shield to bully their vendicative campaign against a government official. It's not about cost and personalities, as much as the principal of not letting these kind of agenda driven requests go unchecked. Think about it and read the whole story.
That is your judgement and not the one that counts. When Judge Swent speaks to the matter, the context will be set.
