For God's sake people, my ownership of this blog has never been a secret. Those of you who ACTUALLY know me, know that I do not readily have the time to "sit" on this blog. I have a business, a new daughter, home renovations, community involvement, etc ...
If this blog is so unpopular than why have a vast array of similar blogs e-blossomed? They have actually capitalized on the name through their highly intelligent creativity (same name different blog company, or by the spelling of Antics with an "x"). Why? No original thought process ... "Beam me up Scotty" ... I did not know that Alexandria had so many parrots.
Jacques, good luck my friend, it's a hard battle to fight but fight the good fight ... there are individuals within this community who think for themselves, do what they can for the community and now matter how much unfiltered horse manure is spread, are still able to grow healthy and useful "seedlings" not weeds.
Respectfully,
Quint Carriere

Maybe he's never heard of his granddaddy's party, the Dixiecrats.
So by common-sense party you mean the one that basically shuts out anyone without a pedigree and deifies money over progress?
Your quote, Quint, only reflects a marginal understanding of politics and illicits a response of guffaw from me. Do you really think this is the case? If so, you're really just showing that the racist values of the South are still inherant in the Republican virtues of today.
There is so much more here you could have said but you reduced it down to "Them Democrats my great-grand pappy was a part of is the sames as the Republican party today." Tell me, is it because the old style Southern Democrats believed in exclusion and Antebellum values over actual civil rights, united equity, and actual progress within a region? This seems awfully much like the current Republicans in Alexandria.
There is a lot of political history you must read if you are to say such radically pointless drivel such as this, much less allow yourself to be quoted in a Reuters article.
Good luck with that coffee shop. It seems your intellectual prowess will keep you there for quite awhile.
Toodles!
Believe it or not Quint is not the first and only one to say such. Most college history and political science classes note the similarities on traditional southern Democrats and the new Republican Party. The issues are not so much race, as they are government spending, states rights, foriegn policy, moral issues and others. Many Southern states going Republican, in national elections, seems to give credance to this observation.
Quint's given every one in Cenla a place to insult, embarrass, and defame others.
He's not just a coffee peddler. He's a reckless republican party spokesman!
I wondered why every black person in Alexandria was either called the n word or a darkie on this blog and I wondered why you paranoid weirdos assign so much power to myron. Now it all makes sense.
Thank you to Reuters.
I'll take a double latte, please.

Yes, most college professors at illustrious universities such as Bob Jones and Liberty.
Seriously, what are you smoking?
When you say "government spending" and "moral issues" don't you think that programs that benefit minorities are a part of this issue for Republicans??? I think race is most definitely in this equation.
Maybe Quint's not the first to say it like he did, but I'm glad we know what kind of person "moderates" this blog.
it's all coming together... quint carrier is a member of the cenla gopac.. a small group of republicans... he started this blog, recruited fellow cenla gopac members to write on it and never put a check against his friends for writing racist or defamatory shit... because as sam said quint believes today's republicans of the south are just like granddaddy's democrats of the south.
I seriously doubt Quint meant anything racist by his comments.
This blog is pretty irresponsible and irrelevant, and if he were smart, he'd shut it down or change it.
In order to clarify earlier remarks, I admit to incorrectly assuming that most folk have a basic undertanding of economic principles and that it was a given that any entrepreneur would realize that constructing and operating properly managed parking facilities could actually be profitable in the proper environment. Once upon a time, parking was a significant problem downtown which led to vendor flight to the mall and other outlying areas. It became too inconvenient to shop downtown for most people's taste and they voted with their dollars to support businesses other than the downtown merchants. Naturally, the demand for parking will rise again when commerce grows downtown. But you see, that is the dilemna, commerce will increase only when ease of access and parking become a reality. I guess it is the chicken and the egg story all over again and how the inability to get beyond personal agendas for the common good allowed downtown to die in the first place. What happens downtown will be an indication of how future stagnation will be handled in other areas of town. I personally feel that it is time to get over the cotton plantation mentality that says develop land until all of the good is gone then move on to better ground and to hell with the old. That kind of thinking and lack of planning has left Alexandria with a rotten, hollow, core that will have to be dealt with at some point in time as it is not going to just dissappear. For those that wonder, it is the people that have a sense of history and an eye for the future that truly understand the wisdom of downtown revitalization. It's not all about saving some crumbling old buildings, it is about wise land and resource use.
Yes, most college professors at illustrious universities such as Bob Jones and Liberty.
Seriously, what are you smoking?
Well I was speaking from persoanl knowledge of classes at LSU, LC and Northeast as a matter of fact.
In the last thirty-five years, though, this has changed because of the emergence of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and its support for the civil rights movement, as well as the conservative realignment of the Republican Party under the Richard Nixon (see the Southern strategy)and Ronald Reagan presidencies in the 1970s and 1980s. As a result, the Republican Party has benefited from Southern support, in large measure due to the evangelical Christian vote.
Although the South as a whole defies stereotyping, it is nonetheless known for its conservatism. Additionally, support for such conservative causes as opposition to same-sex marriage and abortion is often found in the South today. "Politics of the Southern United States"
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_the_Southern_United_States.
Therefore, if one with a slight bit of intelligence and reading comprehension would read this entire article, you would see how the South has moved from died in the would conservative democrats to conservative Republicans. For others, get your shool children to read it and explain it to you.
Whatever you say Spanky. I certainly can't argue with an individual with your entrepreneurial record.
Spanky says it is all about wise land use. Well, in this area, we do not have a problem with the quantity of land, which is why businesses and homeowners expand outwardly rather than upwardly. I just have not seen a dramatic rise in the number of skyscrapers in downtown Alexandria since the Guaranty Bank Bldg. Young countries, and cities within them do not have to live like century old villages in which people were crowded because the geography allowed them no where else. I know this is a gross simplification, but leaving a downtown area which served the citizens well in its time is simply no big deal in the scheme of land use in an area the size of Rapides Parish. Downtown does not cease to exist it just moves with the flow in a natural manner. Now if there are those who wish to buck this trend and/or take advantage of an opportunity we shortsighted realist can't envision, there are no impenetrable barriers in the free market restraining you.
Does anyone see the pattern here? Curt Davidson attacks Lamar's ideas and the lamarites attack Davidson personally.
And who saddles up to ride with Lamar??? Our old "file a suit to shut 'em up" buddy Greg Aymond.
Birds of a feather....
The ideas and opinions of Cenlamar always seemed like the editorial pages of the NY Times or the LA Times, and now Lamar comes out with his justification of his ideas with studies from the NY Times. Maybe if he could come up with just one idea of his own and justify it with independent reasoning and logic, rational people would listen and enter into discussion with him.
Maybe we should send a subscription of The Wall Street Journal to Lamar. It would probably have the same affect garlic sunlight or a cross would have on a Vampire.
"Don't you understand who is being cheated here? You don't deserve public confidence just because you have nice hair. You have to earn it."
Do you understand what Mr. Despino's responsibilities are and why he was assigned a vehicle. Without that info any judgement you make is premature. Its easy to look in from the outside.
I was noting the call for prohibition of anonymous postings and I thought the necessity for this format had been pretty much discussed with a myriad of reasons why allowing anonymous postings benefits everyone. I was thinking in the context of history, which blog would have had the most affect, Cenlamar(the left leaning politically correct one) or Cenlantics(the wild, undisciplined, rambling one filled with a conglomerate of crazies, insane, wild and woolly capitalist, and a combo of racists, bigots, intolerants). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If this blog had existed in Germany in the thirties, I believe it would have had a beneficial affect, bringing many peoples views to the surface. Many truths which were buried by the Nazi's would have seen the light of day. Anonymity in the expression of truth would have kept many from the gas chambers and warned many of the seriousness of Hitler's rantings. I love this blog just for that reason. I love that the crazies can voice their opinions anonymously because for them to be able to do so, assures my freedom. I sure don't feel comfortable with Greg's and Lamar's ideas of free speech. Somehow in the course of history, bad things happen after censorship begins. The nose of the camel under the tent rarely stops there. I have seen this attack many times on this blog, and I might add by some of the same people. History teaches us that in no cases has unlimited free speech destroyed millions, but the constraints of censorship has led to the deaths of millions.
Greg Aymond said: "I applaud your decision to moderate your blog against those who lack the intelligence or facts to debate, and simply resort to name calling, lies, personal attacks and gossip."
Mr Aymond should be an expert on this, it's his favorite tactic to squelch reasoned discourse. Especially when folks disagree with him.
By the way Mr. Aymond, How many defamation cases have you won? The whole community is well aquainted with your losses in this area, tell us about your victories.
Lamar...you make this too easy...
-----------------------------------
"I remind you that during the latest mayoral election the citizens of Alexandria elected a candidate who spoke openly and frequently about the need for downtown revitalization."
Are you trying to get us to believe that Mr. Roy was elected solely on the premise that Downtown needed attention? Please Lamar…
-----------------------------------
"Those who seek solutions to downtown do not represent a "small percentage of the population" (and I am not sure what qualified data you are relying on to make such a bold proclamation.)"
I never said that the percentage of people seeking solutions was small, I said those that support YOUR solution was small, in fact, miniscule. Here’s my quote: "The tiny group of people who think as you do and make up such a small percentage of the population that they don’t matter..." Don’t put words in my mouth Lamar...Try to respond to what I actually say, not your version of what was said.
You propose to bring downtown back as a mecca for artists, and musicians. You also support public funding and effort to achieve this. Sounds to me like what you want is Bourbon Street North, paid for by public funds. Not an attractive idea to anyone Lamar.
-----------------------------------
"If this were truly the case, then a vast (yet apparently vocal) segment of the population decided not to vote on November 7th. Mr. Roy ran on a platform of smart or community-based growth, of which downtown is an important component, and he was elected by a landslide."
Lamar, you should not proffer opinions about subjects you know nothing about. If you believe that Mr. Roy was elected because a vast majority of voters agreed with the concept of “smart growth” you’re sadly mistaken. Poll the voters and ask them to define “smart growth.” They cannot tell you.
However, they do know this: They wanted to break the strangle hold that Brewer and her ilk had on Alexandria. They were very uncomfortable with the hi-jacking of authority that the City Council had achieved under a weak Mayor...and third, they wanted the sweetheart deals, the nepotism, and the corruption to stop. Mr. Roy was elected on the strength of these promises, not the concept of a French Quarter like downtown Alexandria.
-----------------------------------
"Still, no one, including myself, has ever stated that downtown should be Alexandria's top priority, and no one, including myself, has ever stated that the city should dedicate a "huge amount of money" toward this endeavor."
That’s funny Lamar, Seems to me like that’s ALL I have heard you talk about.
-----------------------------------
"I have stated that downtown revitalization is already happening, propelled, in large part, by the efforts of private businessmen and budding entrepreneurs."
Good, I’m glad you concede that downtown revitalization should be funded without public money.
-----------------------------------
I have also stated that it will be important for the City to continue helping attract people into its downtown, as downtowns throughout the nation have reinvented themselves as catalysts for growth, attracting, among other things, a coveted demographic, young professionals.
"Coveted demographic?" Please Lamar. You yourself have stated that this group "...are frequently transient, which means they don't mind moving around a bunch until they find what they are looking for." And you propose to pour public funds into a blighted area of Alexandria to make this area attractive to this demographic group?
-----------------------------------
Please Lamar, do your homework, THINK a little before you speak, and be willing to put Your money at risk before forcing taxpayers to fund your little adventures.
If the City of Alexandria wanted to help downtown they would address the one thing they are responsible for…crime. In order to accomplish this, we would have to rid the department of internal corruption. Until Mr. Roy discovers the courage to fire the present chief, find and hire a no nonsense police chief, AND SUPPORT HIM TO THE BITTER END, this will never happen.
In short, Let Alexandria handle the area they have an obligation to handle and let private developers invest their money in downtown.
My entreprenurial ineptitude aside, Alexandria can hardly expand infrastructure and the associated tax burden without (1) expanding population or (2)maintaining or reducing the size of our infrastructure ie. incorporated areas. Downtown revitalization without tax dollar use except for necessary governmental functions is what needs to happen and that will be driven by economic incentive to the current property owners or adherance to zoning ordinances. While open land is in abundance and relatively cheap surrounding Alexandria, infrastructure {streets, water lines, sewer lines, power lines, police protection, fire protection, etc.) are provided at taxpayer expense and a stagnant tax base will not allow for expansion without the insidious cost of neglect of current, older parts of town. Therefore, it would be wise to look inward to maximize land use within the current corporate limits. You don't have to believe me, all you have to do is look at downtown and other areas of town that suffer from neglect. When crime rises or fire becomes a problem, there are associated cost relative to insurance costs also. For all of you free spirited naturalists, I would like to congratulate your approach to city planning for creating a narrow central Jackson street traffic channel to an intersection that conjoins four separate street names with a four-way stop. I guess this was to be the single route to connect an expanding periphery with city hall hence saving tax dollars on multiple streets. Anyway, while I continue to miss the point, I will endeavour to enlighten myself on natural divine providence and aquaintenences that like to administer anonymous cheap shots.
Lamar, let me handle this one.
Curt Davidson, we all think you're really Quint Carriere.
You don't seem to have any reading comprehension skills.
You don't seem to understand anything those of us who support downtown have been talking about.
You don't seem to have any understanding of what a mayor can and cannot do.
Your solution is to fire Darren Coutee, hire some no non-sense guy, and support him to the bitter end (whatever the hell that means) and you think it's just that easy.
You should read up on civil service protection.
You should also hire a tutor to help you learn how to read, because you're either purposely taking things the wrong way or hooked on phonics didn't work for you.
"The ideas and opinions of Cenlamar always seemed like the editorial pages of the NY Times or the LA Times, and now Lamar comes out with his justification of his ideas with studies from the NY Times. Maybe if he could come up with just one idea of his own and justify it with independent reasoning and logic, rational people would listen and enter into discussion with him."
Lamar also quoted from that liberal rag known as Forbes Magazine.
Damn commie pinko Forbes family and their ilk want the terrorists to win.
Curt, I would offer to help you out here but it was already gracefully handled above: but let me republish to enlighten all:
***********************
Lamar forgive us- said...
Betcha Lamar responds by patronizing the shit out of his detractor and forgiving him for his ignorance, narrow view, and selfish position. Vintage Lamar.
Lamar always starts from his basic premise: he is right and you are a nice person whose interest he appreciates and hopes the "exchange" will enlighten you.
Sunday, January 07, 2007 9:23:11 PM
Play It Again, Sam,
That didn't happen this time.
Quint, you're right.
My granddaddy was a racist Southern Democrat and so was my daddy, until Richard Milhouse Nixon came along with his southern strategy and convinced the family to change parties.
They never much liked the idea of civil rights anyway, so it was a natural shift.
Thank you for giving Reuters a great quote to show America what Alexandria Republicans are really about.
This is as entertaining as it gets!
A single person dares to question Lamar, and does so with a reasoned, locical voice and he is set upon by the childish followers of a phony oracle, demanding he be silenced lest they be forced to face the truth.
Amazing....
They're just calling this Curt Davidson guy out on his bullshit. He's being intellectually dishonest, yet demanding a real, honest conversation.
To the anon poster of: Monday, January 08, 2007 2:02:42 PM
Oh enlightened one...tell us EXACTALLY what Davidson said that is bullshit?
He has called young Lamar out and used Lamar's own words against him to show everyone just how shallow Lamar really is.
Give us one, just one example of Davidson's intellectually dishonesty.
You kiddies are intellectually bankrupt. When you attempt to answer any critical assesment of your position it ammounts to a 5 year old saying..."Oh Yeah!!!!"
We're laughing at you!
He is intellectually dishonest b/c he's lying about who he really is.
If he were honest about his identity, then he'd open himself up to the same type of criticism he is leveling against Lamar.
He's not going to do that, though, because then the playing field would be level, and his agenda would be exposed.
Very good point. You can talk all day about Lamar's motivations, his family, and his experience, because he's put himself out there.
Curt Davidson is a fake name cooked up by someone too scared to say who he really is.
Back to "Curt Davidson"
"Are you trying to get us to believe that Mr. Roy was elected solely on the premise that Downtown needed attention? Please Lamar…"
Of course not, and that's not what I said. Read what I wrote one or two more times.
"I never said that the percentage of people seeking solutions was small, I said those that support YOUR solution was small, in fact, miniscule.
Not an attractive idea to anyone Lamar."
If it sounds to you like I am suggesting a Bourbon Street North, then I have to wonder what I have ever stated to lead you to that conclusion.
A healthy and vibrant downtown should be a destination everyone in the community can enjoy.
I have stated that the budding cultural arts and music scenes represent key assets in building back our downtown, but I have never suggested this movement, in and of itself, should define revitalization efforts-- nor have I ever argued for a large-scale public financing of these efforts.
"Lamar, you should not proffer opinions about subjects you know nothing about. If you believe that Mr. Roy was elected because a vast majority of voters agreed with the concept of “smart growth” you’re sadly mistaken. Poll the voters and ask them to define “smart growth.” They cannot tell you.

Mr. Roy was elected on the strength of these promises, not the concept of a French Quarter like downtown Alexandria."
Of course, there were a confluence of reasons people voted for Mr. Roy; however, I think you severely underestimate the ability of people to grasp the concept of smart growth, which was, in fact, a central theme of the campaign. Though, I suppose in your wisdom, you have, in fact, conducted this poll you speak of, and are therefore "qualified" to speak about its results.
"Still, no one, including myself, has ever stated that downtown should be Alexandria's top priority, and no one, including myself, has ever stated that the city should dedicate a "huge amount of money" toward this endeavor."
"That’s funny Lamar, Seems to me like that’s ALL I have heard you talk about."
Well, frankly, it's not all I have talked about, and again, I have never stated that it should be our top priority.
"I have stated that downtown revitalization is already happening, propelled, in large part, by the efforts of private businessmen and budding entrepreneurs."
"Good, I’m glad you concede that downtown revitalization should be funded without public money."
I have also stated that it will be important for the City to continue helping attract people into its downtown, as downtowns throughout the nation have reinvented themselves as catalysts for growth, attracting, among other things, a coveted demographic, young professionals.
""Coveted demographic?" Please Lamar. You yourself have stated that this group "...are frequently transient, which means they don't mind moving around a bunch until they find what they are looking for." And you propose to pour public funds into a blighted area of Alexandria to make this area attractive to this demographic group?"
I also question your reading comprehension skills. Young professionals are frequently transient UNTIL they find a place that suits them, and considering our aging workforce, cities all across the nation are taking measures to attract and retain young people, which frequently includes using downtowns as a catalyst for growth. And it works.
Young professionals are important for a city's future because they help to ensure economic viability.
Earlier today, KALB reported on a new campaign to bring back young people; it's a problem that is being addressed on a number of fronts.
George Robertson, President of CAP, the organization who created this campaign, told KALB: "We know that we are facing a severe workforce shortage in Central Louisiana," Robertson said. "Our labor pool is getting tighter and tighter. Never could Bring 'em Home be better timed for the needs of our region."
"Please Lamar, do your homework, THINK a little before you speak, and be willing to put Your money at risk before forcing taxpayers to fund your little adventures.
In short, Let Alexandria handle the area they have an obligation to handle and let private developers invest their money in downtown."
First of all, crime is not the ONE thing for which the city is responsible, and your solution is pretty simplistic and myopic.
As I wrote previously, I will continue to do my homework. Your criticism reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of my opinions, statements, and writings; it's an embellishment, a baseless characterization that, again, is culled from a handful of quotes, taken out of context.
The truth is actually much more benign than you'd prefer, so you accuse me of insisting things I have never said or written. You accuse me of attempting to draw attention to non-existent pet projects and of promoting a vision of downtown I have never promoted. Again, I have written about a scene that already exists and why this represents an asset, but the notion that I have argued in favor for a Bourbon Street North is just ridiculous and baseless.
Moreover, I agree with those who state that your refusal to be honest about your real identity allows you to enjoy a detached perspective wherein your true agenda is concealed.
Some people, however, believe they know who you really are, and I will leave it to you to address those allegations.
All of you anonymous contributors are hypocrits for criticizing "Curt" due to his not identifying himself. He has a right to say whatever he thinks about what Lamar writes. If he doesn't agree with Lamar, so be it. The fact that he doesn't agree with Lamar does not make him or her a pariah.
For those still keeping score:
Curt: 1
Lamar: 3
Sorry Curt, but he just destroyed you in that last post.
Lamar, thanks for proving what I set out to-- this Curt guy can't read.
Lamar, I agree with everything you've said, except one thing, the line about pet projects.
What about Bringhurst Golf Course? You drew a lot of positive attention to that.
Granted, I know you haven't made any money off of the course and have never asked to, but it seems a little bit of clarification may be in order.
To the anon posters who said this:

Share with us the evidence that I am not Curt Davidson, I would really like to hear this, because geeee I thought I was. My Dad was Jim Sr., Mom was Ruth. We lived in the same house In Lafayette my whole life and my parents still live there. Got a brother, Jim Jr. a sister, Ann and one aunt on dad's side still alive at71...Sherron.
Went to Acadiana HS, graduated in 1978. Graduated Georgia Tech with a civil engineering degree in 1983.
My whole life I thought I was Curt Davidson, now I find out from Lamar's cronies that I'm not??? very strange.
Wait, I got an idea!!! Lemme see...yup My drivers license says I'm Curt Davidson...see it says so right here!
Another question for you Lamar...these idiots that you send out to do your bidding...best you could find?
Re: Bringhurst, I was talking about projects downtown, but the point is well-taken. I think Bringhurst is a worthy project for the community and may help improve a blighted community with a slew of affordable homes, as well as improving an important corridor in Alexandria.
Re: Curt, hello. Good to know you're a real person and not a figment of someone's imagination.
Sorry Curt. Lamar & Co. say it ain't you - as if it made a difference. Shakespeare and the apostles wrote under different names and so did Mark Twain. The Lamar sycophants don't realize that just because Lamar says it, it ain't necessarily so.
Nobody has ever been able to justify Despino have a car. It's just an unnecessary perq. He is in purchasing, for god sake. I can't think of anything that could not be handled from his house with a cell phone, the internet and a fax machine. If, for some bizarre reason, he has to perform the rare "emergent function" he could take his own car and be reimbursed. The fact that he may have to go open a padlock during Katrina or during a severe freeze certainly does not justify the expense and liability to us for the other 364 days every year. Either you conserve the public's money or you don't.
Let's open the voting booths so Lamar will really know how we are voting so that if we don't do right he will sic his Hitler, I mean, Lamar's Youth Group on you. I'm gonna remain anonymous so the intelligentsia following Lamar will not paper my front yard.
Curt, do you live and work in Alexandria?
Lamar, sorry if I was wrong about this but I've been living in Alexandria for fifty-seven years and I have never heard of a civil engineer named Curt Davidson and I know many civil engineers.
Did you just move here Curt?
What firm do you work for?
Welcome to Cenla Antics Curt, where blogers say any absurd bullshit they choose, state it as fact, even though it is not, and, instead or arguing the facts of what you claim, only have the intellect to wage personal attack when they don't agree with you. Once again, welcome.
You play with the tigers, you're gonna get scratched.
Heil! Lamar!
Kurt, hmmmmmmm. Vat kind of name iz dat? Do juuu haf vrelative in zee old country?
The only tigers I have seem blasting Curt is a bunch of pussies.
Lamar, you have every right to champion your views, and do not deserve pernal attacks on yourself or your relatives. However, there are also just as legitimate opposing views to yours, and you should be more open to understanding those views. First, the vast landslide electing Jacques as mayor clearly was not only made up of the young professional vote. I believe that the vast majority simply did not want business as usual in City Hall from the Brewer crowd. Many of us or middle aged and above, and did not base our votes upon smart growth or downtown revitalization. You should also recognize that many of us, if not the majority, feel that this City has many more pressing needs than golf courses, the arts, music and downtown revitalization. Many of us are becomming worried that we may have substituted one special interest blue- blood silk-stocking crowd for another. As you have admitted, with an every aging population, we hope that Jacques and people like you will keep this in mind. Remember, that the vast majority of citizens in this City do not play golf, and when you speak of quality of life that majority means daily life, not recreation.
This is the way this crowd has been since the mayor's race. If you don't agree with what they say, they demand to know who you are so they can "slam" you with things that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject you disagreed on. What a pack.
"Heil! Lamar! & Kurt, hmmmmmmm. Vat kind of name iz dat? Do juuu haf vrelative in zee old country?"
Two more examples of this blogs' idiot posters lacking sufficient metal capabilities to argue and resorting to a "Yo momma" retort. Apparently there is a "Blogging for Dummies" book out on the market.
Anon 6:48,
That is perhaps the most measured, thoughtful criticism I have ever received on Cenla Antics. Thank you.
I completely understand your points, and I agree. We cannot become blinded toward serving the needs and desires of a single demographic, and recreation should not at the top of our list of needs.
As a young person, I have written about what I know and what I believe. This is just my perspective. I think we have a problem with our workforce, but the solutions to this problem aren't necessarily fun, quick, and easy.
I recognize that not everyone plays golf and believe me, I recognize that not everyone is excited about the notion of a clean, safe, and healthy downtown--- and that these should not be considered THE top priority-- because there are actually more pressing needs.
Thank you for your advice. I take it to heart.
Lamar, you must be the most exasperating individual alive. Trying to discuss IDEAS with you is an exercise in futility. You say one thing, imply another, and when someone quotes you, you claim to have been misunderstood.
Obviously you don't firmly believe in the positions you espouse, because when confronted with a request for detailed explanations, you sidestep and evade the specific subject.
Why don't we start fresh Lamar. Just answer these simple questions with a yes or no. It will make it easier for all who frequent this blog.
Do you favor using public dollars in downtown revitalization projects?
Do you believe that downtown Alexandria can be revitalized using private dollars alone?
Should the downtown area be transformed into a haven for artists and musicians?
Do you believe that downtown revitalization is VITAL to a prosperous Alexandria.
There they are Lamar, four simple questions which require no explanation, no spin, no vague implications. Please answer with a simple yes, or no.
Maybe that's the problem Lamar...as a young person, you don't know jack...
Ya got two ears and two eyes. maybe you should watch and listen twice as much as you talk.
Only old Republican people are smart.
Lamar, you should know that this is written in the Cenla Antics disclaimer.
Just a note to all those who decry the city issued vehicles and their use. Did you know that the driver is required to pay for his/her commuting trips? Did you know that personal use, except for fire and police, is expressly forbidden by ordinance? So to all of those who say these vehicles are being paid for solely by your tax dollars: you are wrong.
Enough is enough!
This I do know for a fact. We have a local manufacturer who has an average age of their manufacturing workforce of 55. Yes - 55. And guess what???? They are not backfilling, they are not hiring entry level for training. This is going to be a SERIOUS problem for them in the future. This company has been here since the late 60s.
Lamar is correct on one fact - nationally there is a labor crunch and it's only going to get worse. The baby boomers are heading towards retirement. The age groups that followed who now make up the workforce don't equal in size that population - come on people go look at census data by age. HOWEVER - What use to take 10 people now takes a robot and a technician. Manufacturers are producing more with less people. As we shift more of our industrial base to the service sector, we will have a problem. Service type jobs for the most part, cannot be performed by technology.
We cannot recruit 21-34 year olds until have something for them to do. Face it guys what is there really to do in Alexandria? We are not catering to our own citizens' needs so how can we expect to attract anyone home?
Very well, Mr. Davidson.
1. Do you favor using public dollars in downtown revitalization projects?
Put simply, it depends on the project, its economic impact, costs and benefits, and whether or not it serves a real, documented need. I do not support using public monies for projects that could or should otherwise be taken up by private industry. For example, I support using public monies to increase the value and viability of city-owned property, such as the amphitheater and the Riverfront Center, both of which are not yet completely finished and both of which can be used to attract conventions, concerts, and events that promote our area and contribute to our local economy. However, I do not believe it would be wise or in the public's best interest to use its resources in order to finance projects that should be taken up by private industry, like the Hotel Bentley or the conversion of private property into multi-use facilities. President Bush's Renewal Zone incentives already apply toward downtown property and businesses; this is an underutilized federal incentives program that can create opportunities for people interested in investing in downtown.
2. Do you believe that downtown Alexandria can be revitalized using private dollars alone?
Certainly, this is possible. I would argue, however, that the process could be facilitated through a series of smart and calculated investments. Moreover, I believe there are several state and federal sources for funding projects downtown, monies are otherwise funneled to similar projects in other cities. The superfund site, for example, represents an opportunity for the city to take advantage of federal funding as a way of converting an environmental hazard into a viable part of our community, and it would achieve two important objectives: Cleaning up an area recognized as an environmental hazard and creating jobs and opportunities for people in our community.
3. Should the downtown area be transformed into a haven for artists and musicians?
I believe a healthy, clean, and safe downtown will create opportunities for the entire community. Empirically, downtown living attracts people seeking an urban setting, and often, these individuals are artists and musicians. I think it's very important for Alexandria to appreciate and celebrate its arts community, which has a long and storied history, but in order for this to happen, it will take a combination of private investment and public encouragement. The arts and music communities are both quality of life issues, much like the zoo, little league parks, and golf courses. Again, recreation should not be our top priority as a city, but it is part of our responsibility. That said, I believe that the arts and music communities should be primarily driven by private investment. Non-profit organizations like the Alexandria Music Project and the Tipitina's Foundation have taken the lead in promoting our music community; River Oaks and the Alexandria Museum of Arts have taken the lead in promoting our arts community. The city can promote and encourage these organizations, but there is no need for the city to create duplicative programs that would essentially serve the same needs.
4. Do you believe that downtown revitalization is VITAL to a prosperous Alexandria?
In short, yes.
I think that when most people arrive in Alexandria their impression of our city is that we are a typical sprawling city of strip malls and big boxes and a somewhat blighted inner core. As Mayor Roy said during the campaign trail, employers look for two factors when determining whether or not to locate in a city: quality of life and education. The city government can do many positive things regarding education, but ultimately, public education is under the umbrella of the Rapides Parish School Board.
Nationally, the trend is toward controlled and smart growth, which means cities are increasing their efforts at curbing sprawl and redirecting their focus onto historical and inner-city neighborhoods. The issue isn't just about Alexandria; we must understand our competition.
Downtown Alexandria is the site of our original settlement. Its layout is intuitive. Its location on the riverfront is an added and important asset.
Our workforce is aging, which means we will be forced to increase opportunities for young professionals in order to stay economically viable. A revitalized downtown will decrease crime, increase property value for homeowners in surrounding neighborhoods, and better utilize one of our most important assets, the Red River. It will also become an economic engine; our location has always made us a destination for conventions.
One hundred years ago, Edgar McCormick was writing editorials in the Town Talk about why Alexandria is the best city in Louisiana for conventions, and today, this still remains true, particularly with the addition of the massive Riverfront Center ten years ago. But if we continue to disparage those who speak openly about the need for downtown revitalization, I believe we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot, undermining an effort that could legitimately improve our area, an area that could offer an important dynamic to our entire region.
***
By the way, I completely agree with the previous anonymous poster; our labor force is aging. We need to increase opportunities for young people to do something.
Anon 6:54:32: My Kurt, Hmmmmm. remark was supposed to he a humorous retort indicating the suspicious requirement to remove anonymity when an individual disagreeing with Lamar and his minions presents rational discourse proving Lamar's tired, trite, ruminations absurd. And as usual the Lamar youth group respond with name calling and unitelligible gibberish. This "idiot poster" suggest you work on your "metal" capabilities and then you would know where to insert your apostrophies,"blogs'", because I know you don't want me to make a suggestion.
I promise that we are not getting out money's worth out of all these "executive" vehicles. If there is no justification or reason for the city to buy, maintain, insure, and fuel these cars, the fact that the employee might be reimbursing the city a few bucks in no comfort. It makes far more sense (cents) to reimburse those employees for their rare city-related vehicle use.
Curt, to translate re: questions. Yes, no, yes, yes
Lamar, why do you even waste your time posting your opinions on this blog when these idiots will always reduce them to a sentence and deduce the most absurd shit out of them?
Everything you've said is right. Too bad people are too fucking stupid to understand.
That's not fair. I read this blog, and I support Lamar's position. Not all of us are idiots who can't read.
The Lamar Youth Group has spoken. If you do not agree with Herr White you are "too fucking stupid to understand", are an "idiot" and "can't read".Some of us living in the real world think his opinions can be reduced rather than to a sentence, to a word, "drivel".
From the Town Talk, January 9, 2007: "There is a large population of people that work hard and make enough money that they are above the federal poverty level, but don't make enough money or don't work for a company that can offer them health insurance."
The working uninsured is a broad problem that spans across the nation, said Rozeman.
"It's extensive, not just for our state," Rozeman said. "It's an issue that needs to be looked at seriously by the leadership on a national level, and it just hasn't." "La. flatlines in overall health ranking By Mary Jimenez".
No problem. Let Pappa Fucker explain that their lack of health insurance and access to health care is because daddy won't work hard enough to provide for his family - probably lack of love and concern. We suggest that instead of working at the local Exxon station changing flats that the daddy work as an ophthomologist - they seem to do pretty well. (This also will resolve the Xmas toy shortage aforementioned).
Wonder why so much time and effort is spent on "The Lamar". He has his own blog - let him and his friends stay there. Let someone disagree with Litle Lord Fontleroy and their are called ignorant fuckers. Shit on Lamar and his friends.
Lamar I would recommend you stay on your own blog, continue to live on the stipend set up by your family and continue your imaginery position in the company your mother created for you.
When you and friends grow up, accomplish something on your own with your financing come back and talk to taxpayers that work for a living.
Well, that certainly was an issue-oriented non-personal intelligent attack on Lamar. How could anyone criticize that?
Litle Lord Fontleroy and their are called ignorant fuckers. Shit on Lamar and his friends.
Wow can I use that quote? You are not ignorant because you disagree with Lamar, you are ignorant for the way you do so.
Lamar, despite a request to limit your responses to a simple yes or no, you assume the role of a rather pompous instructor, lecturing his class. Sure, we are all interested in your answers to my questions, however not all of us are interested in your rather socialist justification for your position.
After wading through your diatribe…a painful process I assure you, It seems that your answers are:
1 – Yes
2 – No
3 – Yes
4 – Yes
One can only conclude, based on your own answers, that your ideas for the growth and development of Alexandria are rather self serving. In my opinion, your ideas are ill conceived. If they are ever made public policy, it does not prove you right, it only proves that your family connections are powerful enough to make bad policy a reality.
In that case, a previous poster is correct. With the recent change of administration, all we have done is exchange one special interest group for another. Alexandria taxpayers will continue to be viewed as nothing more than dairy cattle, existing to be milked for every taxable cent they can produce.
It appears that a number of well-intentioned groups would like to move Alexandria in a direction that they consider "progress" by an approach that they think will work. Instead of encouragement we are dishing out insults worthy of a 12 year old.
Bet the Bentley deal falls thru (never was). There should be some political penalty for fooling the public for personal political gain.
(Two different loosely related observations)
I can't wait to start my plumbing classes so I can begin to make a "liveable" wage in this shit hole of a town.
"Curt,"
I just checked with Georgia Tech Registrar's Office, which can be reached by dialing 404-385-6247.
It only takes about five minutes, and they're very courteous.
Guess what?
They have NO record of a Curt (spelled Curt or Kurt) or a Curtis Davidson EVER graduating from Georgia Tech. Not in 1983. Not in 2003. Not in 1997. NEVER.
See "Curt,"
I do my homework.
Tell us all why we should believe you.
Did you misspell your name?
Did you never actually graduate?
Or are you, in fact, someone else entirely?
I don't give a shit if Curt failed the third grade and ate his kids, he makes a hell of a lot more sense than you, Lamar. As a writer, what have you written? As a planner, what have you planned? You can'tanswer Curt's logcal conclusions so you question his qualifications which you yourself, will not answer. My Kurt comments about zee vrelatives in zee old country, were meant to be humorous, but I'm no longer laughing. And incidentally, he did not say he was Jesus and was to be believed. He gave us his ideas based on facts, laced with logic and reason, that make sense. He doesn't give a shit whether you believe him, it is the concepts that are on the table. The earth is not flat, Lamar regardless of who says it. It is the idea you should debate. You of all people would seem to know that.
Watchit, Kurt====Lemur's li'l storm troupers are probably on their way to get your dog. Vat keind of name iz dat David son. Sound non arian to ju? Vass dat Georgis in zee USSR.
You people reward liars and deceivers and insult those after the truth.
"Curt Davidson said:
Went to Acadiana HS, graduated in 1978. Graduated Georgia Tech with a civil engineering degree in 1983.
My whole life I thought I was Curt Davidson, now I find out from Lamar's cronies that I'm not??? very strange."
Apparently, he lied about at least one part of his life.
He presented himself as being a credentialed expert.
I knew this all along. There is no Curt Davidson in Central Louisiana. I know almost every civil engineer in town.
I know when someone is lying and when someone is trying to be logical and honest.
Thank you, Lamar.
Dear "Curt,"
I don't care who you are or aren't and I don't care if you ever graduated from GA Tech or Acadiana High either. The fact is, you are obviously a person living in CENLA who has some personal beef with Lamar and/or his blog/ideas.
At any rate, you said that it's futile to try and discuss IDEAS with Lamar. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's done alot of defending and discussing his ideas. I know & respect the fact that you disagree with him, but what are your ideas blogger-assuming-the-name-of-curt-davis? Since you're a hot shot civil engineer and all, what are your thoughts for making Alexandria better? You should know, right? Please share your opposing views since you detest Lamar's so much.
Sincerely,
One of Lamar's Cronies AKA
A Liberal, Commie Pinko
I think the point many have been making for months, if the free market is left alone, the solutions will come. They may not be what all would like, but that is what freedom brings. That is the progress that has made this country prosper, not one group forcing another to pay for ideas which neither may be able to afford. Many are saying we have no ideas how to make downtown work anymore than we can take a dead Armadillo from the side of the road and with progressive thinking have him up and running again if only we can expropriate and spend enough taxpayer money. If it is worth it, private industry will make it happen, if not, life goes on and Alex. will prosper, just in another direction. An individual does not have to have an alternate plan to recognize one that is inherently faulty. I can't cure your cold, but I can tell you the use of leeches is ill-advised.
I am not a Lamarite, however, if Georgia Tech has no listing for a Curt Davidson, he has created credibility problems for anything he says. I agree with Lamar on some issues, and not on others. But lying to make a counter point, and using personal attacks on Lamar, do little more than make one suspect that "Curt" has a personal axe to grind. Lamar is not right on everything, as my opinion differs from his and I am entitled to mine as he is to his, however, Lamar DOES have the courage and conviction to place his true name to his posts. He also explains his position, and a yes or no answer without a chance to explain is not even allowed in a court of law.
Some of you people are ridiculous, on Lamar's side and against.
Whether or not it takes courage and conviction for Lamar to place his name and picture for that matter before the readers of this blog depends on what the motivating factors are. It is not necessary for discussion of the issues regarding downtown and golf courses. I don't believe anyone else has put their picture on this blog, and that gives me pause. It is possible there are other considerations in play. Maybe I'm just a crusty old fart who can't accept the virginal idealism of youth. Of course, it is possible that the realism pervading my cortex wants me to look farther. If Lamar does have an ulterior motive, and I am not saying that is true, just possible, such as promoting his writing career, newspaper possibilities, political asperations, increasing social standing by local involvement in community, chamber heirchy crashing, mayor's office, his personal blog becoming successful, career advancement(whatever his career is or whatever he wants it to be), creating a following or clique or many other possibilities I just can't fathom. Let's just not proffer sainthood on the boy because he continues to put his name and picture before us on a daily basis.
Why doesn't Lamar stay on his own blog? Lamar.......most of us don't give a damn what you think about anything. You really are just not that important to most of us. Let's move on.
Lamar; the new Greg. KICK ME
I've been reading Cenlamar and wonder why no comments are being posted. It seems everyone only voices opinions on this blog. Even Lamar.
I thought that this site was open to anyone interesting in contributing. Lamar has been a prolific contributor and that is good. That being said, his comments about whether or not someone graduated from Georgia Tech is like unto saying "he has bad hair so he can't be a good dentist".
Talk ideas not personalities. You might as well be sniping at someone because of the father or grandmother or because they are fat. They pissed you off (by suggesting another view) and got you off-message.
Man, what an ego. Since when does anyone commenting on this blog have to identify themselves. All of these little twerps bashing "Curt" are using anonymous as their names! Talk about being full of it. WHO CARES!! These guys are the new elitists. You guys need a taste of reality. This guy or gal can say whatever he wants on here and he hasn't broken any laws or rules if he doesn't identify himself. Sheese!!!

There is a difference in being anonymous and being a liar.
I don't know. You are anonymous. Are you a liar?
Let's understand that a crummy person can have a good idea. Ford was a bigot and a jerk but he gave us mass production (and charcoal briquets). Deal with ideas.
There are a lot of folks on this blog with good ideas and tolerent, open minds. I enjoy their comments and encourage them to be more prolific. You guys are protecting everyone who enjoys freedom, in fact, even those who don't. Don't let a lie go unexposed. Admittedly some comments are so diffuse and gangly in composition as to confuse the observer; nevertheless, when condensed, as many of the posters here have done, they can be exposed. The camouflage the butterfly observers use to cover their motives should continue to be unveiled.
Boy, when the possibly fictitious Curt exposed the falacies behind Lamar's "opinions" all Hell broke loose. The goose steppers are angry!!!!!!!!!
Don,t be lulled to sleep, my lovely. The orbital spheres are filled with consternation. I feel a barrage of indignant proclamations on its way.
Why does a Bacherlor of Arts in creative writing and religious studies debating a Graduate Engineer seem like Lama is bringing a knife to a gun fight. Lamar paid attention in creative writing classes. Fuck Lamar.l
Question. We don't know who you are. Why do you think we might be the least bit interested in what you personally feel about Lamar? or what Lamar feels about Kurt or what I feel about anybody???
Fuck Lamar
Yet another example of fine debate skills from some who post on this blog. What morans HaHa !
Does a "graduate engineer" have to graduate in engineering from someplace or is it someone who designs graduates.
He ain't no rambling wreck.
Who cares who Curt is - his message is clear and factual.. Lamar and his arse lickers delight in killing the messenger to stop the message.
Fuck Lamar
You are anonymous. Are you a liar?
Ummm, no. I didn't make up a phoney name or degree. Apparently you are one of those that cannot see the difference, and don't care. Pitty for you.
What is a "moran" and what are they used for?
Try going feel yourself.
Fuck Lamar
Moran was a cigarete - remember the boy with the sily hat hollering Call for Philip Moran.
Fuck lamar
stupid but really funny
What is Lamar's career? If it is important that Curt's be known, why can't Lamar comply in like manner. Did he graduate from Rice or not. SMU, graduate or not. English Lit. with some religion? What is his job. Has he written anything and if so where and when published. Has he actually had a job, ever. He is quick to post stuff "About Lamar" that promotes his image, so it is only fair that becoming a public figure on this blog he should answer those questions which have been asked repeatedly. I too now question his motivations for all his actions, especially his evasions. I think we know less about Lamar than Curt; however, Curt is not begging to be a public icon.
Lamar...I ain't gonna pull any punches. I think you're a damn liar!
You got the name of the person in the registrar's office at GT you talked to? I'm going to see if you really called them. I don't think you did. And if you called, I don't think GT or any other university would give out info on any grad without written permission to release the data.
And another thing...how the hell do you know that Curt is the guy's legal name? he could be Thomas Curt, or George C, or any other combo of first, and middle names. Hell you stupid asshole, Curt could be a nicname.
Without his SSN just how do you know?
You might have let your mouth overload your ass Lamar. You might have damaged "Curt's" professional repotation with your public posting of your bullshit.
So tell us Lamar, what was the name of your "contact" at GT? Let's put your ass under a microscope and see what we turn up.
LAMAR LOGIC:
You are anonymous therefore:
You are evil.
You disagree with me therefore:
You must be attacked.
You expose me therefore:
You must be discredited.
You ask for facts therefore:
You are stupid.
Your ideas are better, therefore:
You must be silenced.
You are smarter than me therefore:
You don't understand.
You ignore me therefore:
I must scream louder.
You live here too, however:
You are un-important.
You see the truth therefore:
You must not share your vision.
Lamar, you are truly a sad individual. I guess we should all have compassion for you, however, your smug attitude prevents compassion and ignites anger, frustration, and hatred.
You're a very sad little boy.
What infantile bullshit. Of course universities will confirm their graduates. That someone graduated from a university and their degree is not confidential information.
To this anon poster----> Wednesday, January 10, 2007 1:32:41 AM
Confirm, yes. If you give them the proper name. But to supply any University with nothing more than a slang first name like "Curt," which could be short for anything, or even a middle name, and expect an accurate report form some teen aged, part time student worker is a little far fetched.
Then, for Lamar to act as irresponsibly as he did, to question the professional credentials of an engineer with such shakey information.... It just goes to show everyone how childish Lamar really is.
By this one action we see just how vindictive, petty, and immature Lamar is.
Lamar better hope Curt is more gracious than he. Lamar's actions and words have likely exposed him to legal action.
Get real. Call Georgia Tech yourself, you fucking moron.
He's a phony, and that's why he hasn't responded.
Re: 9:03:45 why has Lamar still not responded to the questions many have asked repeatedly on this blog about him. I think I know the answer. He is being exposed before our very eyes and his diversionary tactics are no longer working as he has pissed off many passive but rational readers who are enlightening Him rather than watching untruths go unanswered. And for the little lemmings who rush to his defense everytime he makes a fool of himself, why can't you ask those questions, get answers and report to us his wonders. Think for yourself for once, it will do you good and give you some self esteem. But of course Lamar does not want thinkers around him, does he?
Easy enough to resolve: give correct name and year of graduation with what degree and this conversation is over. It obviously matters to some people and I have an advanced degree that I worked very hard to attain and my family sacrificed to finance. I take educational credential claims very seriously. It doesn't settle to "all eggs in the downtown bucket" controversy. Also, I note that Ken Juneau is still the city spokesperson. Nothing changes.
To 2:30:57 AM. Then Lamar must be a phony also. Right!
Conversation not over. Facts are facts whether Lamar is a parasite or Curt is an axe murderer.
Is Ken Juneau the spokesperson for COA?
Does Juneau have a city car to facilitate his readiness in the event of an emergency proclaimation? Give him Despino's wheels. Juneau, like Despino, could do all his stuff with a laptop computer on his back porch.
Today's Town Talk:
"While flags flew Tuesday at half-staff over municipal buildings in Pineville, they didn't at Alexandria City Hall.
Alexandria didn't mean any disrespect by not lowering flags, city spokesman Ken Juneau said -- it was just a simple mistake."
I've had enough. Having to listen to all of you who think you know it all. There is only one person on this board who knows it all and that is me!
Signed,
Mr. Curt Lamar Aymond
You are forgetting the humor of Spanky and Biff, the wisdom and logic of Sooth, the plastic shallowness of Scarlet, and psychiatric profile of We.
And of course, me, the anonymous cowardly universal insulter and criticizer.
Does Quint Carriere operate his business P.J.'s Coffee Shop as shitty as he runs this blog?
At PJ's you have to pay for what you get. It attracts a more responsible clientelle than you. Ya get what ha pay for.
Lamar, you little fool, don't you see that it doesn't matter if I am real or not. You have to sleep with the fact that I kicked your childish butt with reason and logic. You have to live with the fact that your IDEAS suck.
You have to live with the fact that every curt davidson out here OWNS you.
I've made you jump through hoops for days, you're my BITCH.
Curt, I defended you in the past but now that I see what an unmitigated prick you are, I'm back on the Lamar team. While I was not extremely concerned with your academic credentials (except as they reflect upon your veracity) your facility with prison lingo causes me some concern.
I am Spartacus! No, I am Spartacus. No, I am Spartacus!!
One does not have to be on either Lamar's team or Curt's. It is possible to think for yourself.
Curt is really Mike Tyson. Maybe that was Georgia State Pen. from which he graduated. He still makes more sense than his BITCH.
You have to sleep with the fact that I kicked your childish butt with reason and logic.
Explain that please Curt? Any valid arguments that you had went out the window if you lied about your creditials. I am neither for nor against Lamar, but I know I do not like liars.
Puhleese!!!!! Can we just move on????
To "Lamar I'm Back"
Please don confuse the prison slang talking Curt Davidson with the rest of us numbered Curt Davidsons, I for one prefer to use proper english.
That said, prison talking Curt has a point. If what Lamar says is true, he has been shot down by a phony and his true colors exposed.
Indeed, the boy prince has no clothes.
Remind me again, what the hell did Curt Davidson ever say that "shot Lamar down?" I've been reading through this stupid exchange, and it seems like Lamar answered him point by point.
All Curt did was call him a socialist and lie about his own credentials.
Does Quint Carriere operate his business P.J.'s Coffee Shop as shitty as he runs this blog?
The drinks are always good, but I've gotten moldy food 3 out of the last 5 times I've been there - 2 bagels and 1 croissant.
Let me try and explain to the Lamar Lemmings why Lamar and his ideas are trashed.
Lamar's degree is in creative writing and religious study. So he can write bull shit real good and knows how to pray. Hew casn probably read. Lamar's ideas are like someone saying I read a book on how to fly a jet plane. You'll get on board and let us go flying.
Someone reads a book on surgery. You gonna let this person operate on you? No. Lamar, excpet due to accidently being borne to privilege has done nothing. He lives off the money of others, he copies the thoughts of others claiming the thoughts support his ideas. Lamar as a person has accomplished nothing. High School bored him. If I was as smart as Lamar claims he is (and his friends) I would have put this intelligence to use being something other then a creative, praying writer.
Now what Lamar is praying for is that Jacques Roy believes his being elected to Mayor was totally due to Lamar and Lamar gets rewarded in some special way.
Lamar - earn money on your own, create something - do something besides trying to spend the dollars of others.
The average tax poayer works for his daily bread - he wasn't fortunate enough to be born to a moneyed family that set up a company for him and a trust for him. He earns his money. Try earning yours and then tell us what we should do.
Curt... your worthless.
Why do you all feel that Mr. White should respond to childish slander and hate comments.
WHAT A BUNCH OF BABIES!!!!!!!!!!
It seems as though some of you need to go back to the nipple.
Are you offering your nipple? a/s/r?
Probabky one of them blue-haired , double named low slung nipple owners
1) Any posters that have griped about Wal-mart that have also a) purchased from Amazon.com, Books-a-million, Borders, etc. b) bought from e-bay c)ever had an AOL account d)use Mac or Windows or e)read the New York Times are all RAGING hypocrites!
Each of these businesses have made it their goal to put mom/pops out of business. How many NYC newspapers have gone under during NYT's reign? How many mom/pop bookstores are there in downtown Alexandria? And AOL, don't get me started. It's the nature of the beast.
Have you actually read Dicken's "A Christmas Carol?" That was life prior to super retailers. You worked for the man, and barely made it, and having a job was your only benefit. Do you really think Alexandria is worse off because Alvin is selling real estate and not shoes? Seriously? His jacked up prices forced himself out of business.
Thank you Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Payless for giving my family choice at a price I can afford.
2) Downtown revitalization in Alexandria is a joke. No one with any depth of thinking can compare Alexandria to what they have seen in Europe, New Orleans, Houston, or New York City. Give examples of southern cities of less that 50,000 people that have successfully done this, and I'll buy it. Travel down once thriving Route 66 (its not in La. for you Lamarites) and you'll realize what a pipedream this is.
Folks in Rapides Parish are too mobile and enjoy their space. They do not want to remain in an area that has outlived its usefulness. Build it and they will come does not apply here (see Coliseum/ CowBoy Town/ Hotel Bentley).
Lamar is not as smart as his backers claim he is. He has something up his sleeve as to why he continues to push this white (pun intended) elephant. And I'm just don't buy that it's going to be a trendy place for his drunken/musical/recreational drug use peers.
Blah Blah Blah. Same shit, different day.
Quint,
It must be demoralizing to run a blog where the only thing people want to talk about is the guy who runs the other blog. You and your alter-ego say that this place started the discussion and it's the most popular blog in all of Central Louisiana, yet all people ever talk about is Lamar and his blog and his ideas.
Alexandria's population may be 48,000, but its metropolitan area is well over 100,000. The hospitals serve an area of nearly 500,000 people.
Aymond must really live a lonely life. On his blog site he reports the Curt Davidson "thing" that is ongoing on this blog site and manages to work in Lamar's blog site. He takes Quint to task for allowing this site to exists, expounding upon the liars and character assasins on this site.
Lamar is really in deep poo poo now he has Aymond cheering for him.
You and your alter-ego say that this place started the discussion and it's the most popular blog in all of Central Louisiana
If there is something Quint does alot of it would be boasting. "I'm the greatest rat since chucky-cheese."
He takes Quint to task for allowing this site to exists.
No, actually that is not what I said. What I wrote was that Quint should moderate this blog. Since this poster has not accurately reported what I wrote, I urge any interested to read it for themselves. Obviously, this was simply another shoddy attack, and not a true attempt to report what I wrote. Rest assured, however, I will continue to write on my site.
Don't get on Quint's ass, whoever the hell he is. He gave us the tablet, we write on it free of charge and without censorship and the other blog you can get by reading any liberal rag in the U.S. Stupidity is not a virtue.
If you have read every word by the phantom Curt, how can you not say he demolished every idea put forth by the other guy, who post his name and picture daily without answering any of the questions about his qualifications etc repeatedly asked, in a rational sane manner? I see how Hitler mesmerized Germany in the "30's now.
Hey! I like not using the "other guy's" name. Can we refrain from having to see his picture too?
Would one of you mindless wonders please enlighten me on alternatives to downtown revitalization? Neglect and decay until all returns to the earth hardly seem to be a viable or sensible alternatives, but what do I know? Just paint me waiting for wisdom.
How about this Spanky? We concentrate on meaningful improvements to attract commerce and industry. Roads, infrastructure, clean water, a skilled workforce should be the priority. Create an education system that has 9th graders able to read literature and instructions. Then, when you have a stable population of employed folks supporting stable families in a stable environment, we can afford to stress esoteric quality of life issues like an art district and quaint urban living and shopping environments. We can not support a cafe society yet and we really don't need another failure. Having a spectacular old hotel (which, by the way, won't open this year as promised) is a big mistake unless you develope a reasonable way to keep in full. Face it. We have a poor town. That's the first thing we need to change. I know Lamar is gung ho about the two bars that are open downtown but there are always new bars that attract young people and then the fade and the crowd moves on. Leroys, Herbie Ks, Charlie D'Amicos, The San Francisco, Hilton, the Mirror Room, Skippys, Elmer's Lounge , etc. etc. etc.
People can't spend money unless they have money to spend. Chickens and Eggs, Spanky.
Spanky said: Would one of you mindless wonders please enlighten me on alternatives to downtown revitalization?
Spanky, I do not think that most disagree with downtown revitalization, however there is a fundamental disagreement as to the taxpayers paying for it, as opposed to whichever businesses choose to locate downtown at their own expense. My primary concern is that government funds do not grow on trees. They primarily come from fees, rates and taxes received from the people. Government's originally intended purposes were fire, police, roads, defense, shools and the like. I personally believe that the finite funds held by government should first provide those things, way before it even considers golf courses, museums, performing arts centers, and downtown trees and bricks. I agree with some others, that a national medical system should be a higher priority than beautification projects. What could be more of a "quality of life" issue, that a healthy workforce that continues paying taxes?
So, yes, we would all like to see a beautiful Alexandria, including downtown, the division, however, is in who should pay for it. I would prefer private money pay for downtown revitalization, from the businesses who wish to locate there and make a progit from it. After downtown is filled with successful businesses, then we can take tax money and plant trees and place pretty bricks in the street.
Spanky, what is the alternative to the old shotgun houses that used to be on highway 71 between here and Bunkie. As you said, neglect and decay. And then the land will be used for something else. It would be stupid to spend millions trying to rebuild those old shacks for historical reasons or any other. Let them go and what ever the owners want to do, they are free to do. I hope Harry sells his building, but I don't want it revitalized with my money. And to go further, you can spend millions on downtown or the shotgun houses and neither are ever gonna be livable again. Downtowns have moved and what is left cannot be revived and that is why even where millions are spent you still have a place that is not worth the amount put into it. Subdivisions come and then they die out and new generations move to new ones. Same with downtowns. It is not the end of the world, no one is hurt, even the criminals will find victims elsewhere. And we never had a cafe society their anyway.
3) I just reread the US Constitution and after reading all the trash on this blog I was stunned to find out that nowhere is health care guaranteed. However, it does highly recommend the pursuit of happiness. So, to all you socialists, help the poor pursue a job that offers health care.
Just quit asking us to pay more taxes or higher prices for everyone else's health care. This socialist ideology is the reason that the Big 3 automakers are on the way out. One is broke, one is going broke, and the biggest is starting to slip badly.
The best health care is to avoid risky behavior, overeating, alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs. But this lifestyle would absolutely kill the revitalization of downtown.
We will all die, so choose how you want to live. Just quit asking everyone else to pay for it.
To 10:33:29 Ditto!
God help that you don't have an accident or catastophic health problem that leaves you unable to work, and be unfortunate ebough that you r company was too small to afford health coverage. And hopefully you then will not have to deplete your savings and file bankruptcy in order to pay for your medical care, and loose all you have worked for.
And by socialists, do you mean the farmers that are paid government subsidies, the tax funded baseball fields your kids play at, the tax funded wildlife and fisheries stocking of lakes so you can fish, the funded hunting refuges you hunt at, the medicare your old mother receives, even though she didn't work a day in her life, us with no children paying taxes so your children can go to school, the tax breaks your company recieves, and those kind of socialists programs?
The prevous posts were not all talking about government benefits to non workers. But you are certainly an inhumane soul if you place all the other crap the government pays for over health care for hard working taxpayers. With all the lesser important things that the government pays for, you show your ignorance calling someone a socialist just because he supports government health care, and without knowing what else he believes.
Amen to that!
4) Before you call someone else ignorant, try not to display your own.
socialism - a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, services, etc., in the community as a whole.
I'm not sure how much clearer it can be. Please allay my fears and tell me you spent time in private education, because that's the only place where you would have been assured that getting the govt. to parcel out health care is NOT socialism.
----------------------------
And by socialists, do you mean the farmers that are paid government subsidies (yup, hate em), the tax funded baseball fields your kids play at* (nope, this was a tax voted on by the peeps), the tax funded wildlife and fisheries stocking of lakes so you can fish (yup, dont fish), the funded hunting refuges you hunt at (yup, don't hunt), the medicare your old mother receives* (yup, but she has her own ins., thank you), even though she didn't work a day in her life* (she did), us with no children paying taxes so your children can go to school* (nope, taxes voted on by the public, by the same rationale those that voted for Brewer shouldn't have to follow the policies of the Roy admin. I'll have to give you a double** for that one), the tax breaks your company recieves* (LOL, what tax breaks, this earns you a triple*** Did you read that before you posted. Because the semi-socialist govt. gives a company ITS money back, thats socialism? Where did you go to school? If I get a tax break to run my company that's NOT even close to socialism. Its MY MONEY moron!! Not yours, not the govts. MINE, get it?).
* Demonstrates your ignorance
Ignorance - uneducated, lacking in knowledge or in training, knowing little or nothing, uninformed about a particular subject: An ignorant person can be dangerous. Lack of access to a body of knowledge.
Well now, it appears we have some common ground. I too want to see downtown prosper without the expenditure of tax dollars as investment capital. That is not the role of our city government. It is the role of our city government to maintain the streets, provide security and fire protection, and properly enforce our building codes and ordinances in rtegard to abandoned properties. There lie the tools to reshape downtown. Either maintain and occupy safe, code compliant buildings or lose them to the wrecking ball. My point is that downtown has decayed to the point of being economically terminal and the environment favors governmental or quasi-governmental entities that are not profit driven. It is time to assess the realities and discontinue artificial resucitation. If the downtown substandard property owners wish to retain ownership of those properties, then I would say that they need to band together to get something moving or face condemnation. Two of the main impediments to downtown revitalization are (1) lack of parking and (2) property owners looking for a hand-out / bail-out, neither of which needs to be solved by use of public funds. The downtown merchants knew they had a parking problem when the mall was developed and they failed to work together to rectify the situation hence, the downtown area died while they waited for the city to build parking facilities that never materialized except for the 2.4 million dollar lot across the street from city hall. When I heard the price tag, I expected to see a multi-story facility - all of which proves that the city does not need to be in the development business. Anyway, downtown is strategically important to the image and future prosperity of Alexandria and should not be allowed to become further ram-shackled anymore than the residents of Landmark would allow any of their residents to operate a goat and egg farm out their backyard. Use our city ordinances to shape the place up or ship out the owners.
Maybe a goat and egg farm is not a bad idea for downtown.
I just love these people who are socialist but since they don't like the word or were told it was an evil system, contend their socialistic ideas aren't socialism. They contend it is not theft if they OK it, or it is used for a cause they think laudable. Words have meaning, and if one doesn't understand the meaning of one, anything he postulates on his inability to do so is meaningless.
I repeat, Downtowns don't die, they just move to other areas of town and gradually spread to others. What is left behind, anyone is free to accumulate and do with what they wish. Subdivisions do the same thing. Look at the old mining towns in Colorado. Many have nothing but holes in the ground left and others like Crested Butte and Telluride have multimillion dollar ski resorts and booming economies made possible by tremendous private investment. Let nature take its course. Don't use force to try and make this hole in the ground what you want it to be.
Typical Gregg Aymond thinking - enlighten us as to why we want to revitilize downtown. Downtown is unable to grow and expand in that area commonly thought off as downtown. Growth is stimmed by the River, by the Bayou and Rapides Regional. The only way to grow is down Lower Third. Sell or give downtown to Rapides and let it be developed into a medical complex.
Also, I never knew a degree in English with special emphasis on creative writing and religious studies equated to a degree in urban planning. Isn't urban planning some sort of engineering degree?
One must wonder what
public service is accomplished by operating a blog that has turned
into a den of liars. We can only hope that Mr. Carriere will see that
his blog has become a sewer, and begin moderating it so that it can
return to what it started out as. Opposition need not be culled out,
simply start with prohibiting personal attacks. More arguments can be
won with logic than with name calling.
Gee gregg spin this. If this site is a sewer are we (including you) considered sewer rats.) It is becoming easy to see why your extremely disliked Gregg. If you can't keep a fight of your own making going you emersh yourself in another.
Last 2 posts? what the fuck?
When people lie, they lose their credibility and no one but mindless morons follow them. Free speech works, you have to decide for yourself wherein lies the truth. Can't follow Curt or the other guy blindly.
Just as a point of information -"Government was formed to collectively provide those services to the citizenry that the citizens were unable to provide individually." Government 101
If I wanted a waterslide I could buy one.
I will agree with course of natural events taking its toll on downtown but disagree with allowing the progression to run its course in due time. That is why we have zoning ordinances and building codes and the ramifications of allowing "nature to takes its course is a degradation of quality of life for our citizens and a dimunition of property values - neither of which attracts outside capital or talent. Telluride did not just happen by natural selection either.
anoymous 7:29 "what the fuck what?"
What the fuck - over?
What the fuck did I mean?
What? What the fuck.
5) I am tired of hearing how noble and well-intentioned a certain poster on this board is. The man, who we are no longer calling by name, is a fraud and a charlatan. He proposes grand ideas all the while having underhanded, self-serving purposes.
Case in point:
Mr. (name withheld to protect the guilty) started a blog about how to save Bolton High Schrewl. Huh? What? Why? This ASH grad felt the need to come to the rescue of ASH's historic rival. (By that same rationale, throngs of LSU fans should be blissful that "Dick Satan" is going to Bama, but I digress).
He allowed anon bloggers to tarnish, smear, libel, and denigrate some hard-working and unsuspecting educators in our parish. Why? For the good of Ole BHS? Please.
The blog was set up as an early shot at mayoral hopeful John Sams. However, many folks not running for mayor were slimed in the process. And Lo and behold, months later we find out that Bolton's school board member is running for mayor against the man that Mr. (insert name here) began pushing down our throats. Coincidence? An act of good citizenship? You decide.
My only question now is, were all of Mr. (has own blog elsewhere) supporters been duped by him, or were they in on the gig to slam these hard working public servants so that Whats-it-name could end up on a transition team. I've not seen humiliation of public employees on this scale since the days of John K.
Mr. (not named here), you will have to pay your due in Hell for that escapade.
So anti-socialists, are you an anarchist. Do you believe all government expeditures of tax revenues are socialist? Do you not want to pay taxes? Is it ok take take mony from worokers with no chidren to give those with children a free education? So no elderly people or disabled should receive government support? If a working person should be injured in a car wreck and disabled, tuff shit do you say? None of your tax money should be used in the Hurricane Katrina recovery?
No you are not a socialist. You are a cold hearted asshole who hopefully God will not visit a major loss or illness upon your ass, so that you will lean a little empathy towards your fellow man. What revolution have you started to end socialism in this country, or do you just sit on your fat ass and bitch about it?
Answer: Nobody has been duped into anything. If you were fooled and convinced and converted because of what you read on this blog or "his" blog then this really says more about your smarts than his or ours.
Does one have to go to Bolton to want Bolton to maintain its tradition of excellence - certainly not. If your only interest is promoting your old high school alma mater and not the welfare of the students and system, what does that say about you.
Can an English major have an opinion on the directiion of our city - of course; can a former Klansman, certainly; can a non-resident, yes. The only criteria is that one have a viewpoint that they are willing to share with us. Can they say "fuck" or use racial or religious epithets designed to hurt and offend - yes, I think so, and most of us are mature enough to overlook those postings and consider the likely source that would engage in such conduct.
I have had the occassion to tell many persons of limited intellect and social sensitivity this advice about programs on TV that may contain curse words or promote inter-racial dating or show Jane Fonda movies: if you are offended, turn the set off or change channels. The same goes for you. To call up this site requires certain affirmative steps and effort on your part. If you don't like this site, quit it. I like Jane Fonda movies and this site and I will continue to promote and participate and enjoy them. You are not necessary to us.
Finally, If we confuse and confound you and give you heartburn, find something to fill our life. You will not be able to control the thinking people of this community.
Does the omission imply you don't approve of inter-racial dating?
Anyone can have an opinion on anything. Doctors render opinions and you can seek a second opinion. Professionals rendering opinions normally possess the necesary credentials, experience and education in the field to render a professional opinion.
Would you go see Name to not be mentioned to render an opinion on an illness your suffering from? Alexandria is suffering from an illness - downtown decay - what are Name not to be mentioned creditionals to render a professional opinion? Another thought - Name not to be mentioned is alledgedly handicapped - physically because mentally he is supposed to be a genius - so what is his experience level in participating in golf, managing a golf course or for that mater running a company not created by Momma.
He lackes credibility due to inexperience, lack of training and knowledge in the fields in which he expresses his opinion. Why should his opinion carry more weight than joe six pack? He is not the savior of Alexandria just a misguided youth interested in good food good drinks and music, art and the good life.
Can the nameless one have an opinion? Certainly. Do you have to accept or agree with that opinion? No. If you are not affraid of ideas, go on the blog of he that shall remain nameless and see a well documented presentation on downtown renewals rendered by no less an entity that the Brookings think tank. I just simply fail to understand why you are so affraid of Lamar and his ideas. I think that you probably need to deal that that issue.
One certainly can't doubt the credentials of the Brookings Institute. One (I) can certainly question how those principals apply to 3rd Street in Alexandria, Louisiana.
With regard to inter-racial dating: if you don't like it don't do it. I certainly don't think that you have the right to foreclose any discussion of the subject. My girlfriend, Beyonce, would consider that very lamar of you.
With reference to Name not to be Mentioned new found friend Aymond I ask if Aymond has ever had a mental evaluation as to his mindset? All his blog postings are negative in nature or frolcking with glee and laughter over the misfortune served up onto others.
Aymond get a life. Get happy. Your a dark, gloomy person. It is no wonder you were replaced as the attorney for certain quasi-governmental agencies you are to much of a pesimist.
"I have had the occassion to tell many persons of limited intellect and social sensitivity this advice about programs on TV that may contain curse words or promote inter-racial dating or show Jane Fonda movies: if you are offended, turn the set off or change channels. Bet Name not to be Mentioned creative writing classes would explain your reply indicates out of the topics you brought up you only approve of Hanoi Jane and this site.
Racist you are.
Dear 9:00:02. Don't get pissy with me. I did not invent socialism or define it. You are a socialist but refuse to admit it. Stealing my money for something you deem necessary is theft, wrong and socialistic. If you condone it, you are a socialist. You seem to be an angry name caller who is simply intellectually dishonest. Don't blame me. I'm not sitting home bitching, I am just explaining reality to a little tantrum throwing uninformed socialist, If the shoe fits.
6) Trust me, you're not that smart. (Please tell me you spent time in private school, so I can still have faith in the public school system)
You continue to use poor examples in your idiotic defense of socialism. A school tax passed by a majority is NOT socialism. So what if you don't have kids, the community VOTED to have a school. Move if you don't want to pay a school tax. It is the right of a democracy to spend money for the common good. A majority of wealth generators chose to give the money. The same goes for roads, parks, libraries, infrastructure, etc. That’s why James Madison wrote at the founding of our country “Extend it (the right to vote) equally to all, and the rights of property [owners] ...may be overruled by a majority without property..…” He knew morons like you existed, and would want those that were generating wealth, to pay for your every whim.
What do you not understand about socialism being a system that confiscates private wealth to give to the masses, (i.e. universal health care). If I help pass a tax to run Bolton, some guy in Maine ain't gonna benefit directly from that. But if he gets universal health care, he can sit his A** in the emergency room every D*** day of the year, and I am FORCED to pay for it. PURE SOCIAL-ISM.
And yes I have had a medical emergency when I had no insurance - to the tune of $20,000+. But I worked over the years to pay it off with NO HELP from you, your socialist peers, or the govt!!! So just stop (for your mother's sake) showing off your inability to weigh all factors in decision-making.
You just want to feel good about helping those who choose not to help themselves. Even Jesus Christ said “For ye have the poor with you always.” He also told of the Good Samaritan who helped a poor man, once, not for the man’s entire lifetime. Christ’s example was to show that as the Samaritan we should help those in need, but expect them to fend for themselves at some point. Christ himself said to the adulterous woman “go, and sin no more.” NOT “Stop sinning ‘til I see ya next month.” SHEESH, get a clue. Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, …well you know the rest.
You keep quoting jesus but if I'm not mistaken, he lost that trial.
He didn't lose it the Jews rendered a corrupt veridct - GIVE US BARABUS
Should have appealed - hired Mike Small and Bridget Brown.
Is Curly Brown an Etheopian Jeww?
Jews, ethopians, darkies, name-calling, random cussing....
WHAT KIND OF IDIOT RUNS THIS BLOG.
Electronics 101 BINARY SWITCHING: All PC's are equipped with a conviently located binary switch. For the unfortunate few binary is a mathmnatical system of counting utilizing 0's and 1's. 0's are lows and 1's are high. Stated in another manner a state of 0 is off and a state of 1 is on.
If you don't like the cussing, darky talking, ethopians, etc kindly transfer the position of your binary switch fromn 1 to 0 as far as this blog is concerned.
Pewople utilizing the freedom of speech guarantee of the New Nited States of Merica's Constipation don't lake to be called idiots so fuck off.
you don't "lake" to be called an idiot?
that's something to PONDer.
HAR HAR HAR i lakes that - PONDER
A school tax passed by a majority is NOT socialism. So what if you don't have kids, the community VOTED to have a school. Move if you don't want to pay a school tax.
So you will have no problem with us being allowed to vote if we want government universal health care? If it is approved by the voters, then we should have no problem with you?
You just want to feel good about helping those who choose not to help themselves.
Not at all. I am talking about health care being provided for hard working people that have drawn no government benefits all of the sudden being hit with a catasrophic illness, disease or disability, and are unable to obtain health insurance. These people have helped themselves, so we are talking apples and oranges. I am talking about not forcing hard working taxpayers to loose all they have worked for due to an illness or accident. Haven't you ever heard of accidents and illness falling upon working productive people?
Is it Sweden that is having to cut way back on the cradle to the grave benefits? They have taxed the citizens into poverty providing utopia. Should be a good example of where the Damocrats have us heading.
Supposedly the CLECO power plant expansion needs approximately 1500 (don't know if the figure is true or not) common laborers to be paid $15.00 an hour (supposedly) and benefits and can't fill the need.
Guess it is better to sit on the porch drinking from a paper sack and producing babies.
Notice I didn't say anything about Darkies, Ethopians, Jews, Momma, Trains, Getting out of Prison, Pick Up Trucks or Rain.
You don't have to call me Darlin; Darlin You never even called me by my name. I lake that song.
I've been reading Cenlamar and wonder why no comments are being posted. It seems everyone only voices opinions on this blog. Even Lamar.
You should have your eyes checked. There are plenty of coments on Lamar's site.
7) Wow, another brilliant post by a socialist. YOU JUST DON"T GET IT, do you? The US Constitution obnly allows a national vote for the Pres./Vice. Pres.
So what Constitution are you reading that will let you vote in Natl health care?? Ya just can't do it. So stop, please stop embarrassing your mom with your lack of intelligent thought! There is no reasoning with this crowd.
Again anon 3:52, I was a working person who suffered a $20,000+ medical loss, and I PAID IT OFF WITH MY $$$$. So your argument doesn't sway me. It rains on the just and the unjust. That's just life.
And by the way anon 3:55, stop naming the poster whose name we dare not say.
Are you not saying Lamar's name because you have a love that dare not speak its name? You're a strange, angry, and troubled fellow.

USA: a republic with a constitution allowing a govt for the sole purpose to protect individual rights period. They did not like govts, but thought it was needed for local police, national defense and a judicial, but the were fearful of government. That is a fact. Socialism is what it is, and if a majority, minority, or one person passes a tax that takes from me against my will, money I made, that is socialism period. If you want socialism say so, but don't whine and moan and fear anyone who enlightens you with the truth. There was no national income tax until 1905 or approximately then, and then it was only 5% on the wealthy folks, but that was a violation of the original constitution and had to be added as an amendment. The purpose of the govt was to protect the individual from people who would take from the producers and only the govt can legally do that. All the amendments were to protect the people from the govt. They were scared of the govt as well they should be and limited them accordingly. Read the Constitution, come back after you know that of which you speak and let us have an intelligent discussion why it protects you and I from the Lamar's of the world and all the other socialist, communists, fascists and one world rule folks. They hate and fear the individual. Do't fall into their trap. Think for yourself and if you are a producer stand tall and decry these pitiful moans the parasites and preditors keep posting.
Read carefully the Bill of Rights.
Dear Think, Think, Think: why do you waste your time? Do you think these people have a clue about history, economics, phylosophy, theology, morality or any concept of individual rights? You got it right. They are parasites or preditors and they fear you and the truth.
Do you people have anything better to do than sit around all day and discuss Lamar? Quint, can we please change the name of this blog to Lamar Haters? This is friggin' ridiculous. You people need to get a life.
Dear Think,
Is it possible that conditions have changed since 1776? Is it possible that things like slavery and the industrial age and nuclear power and antibiotics and mass communications and the automobile and monopolies and mail have changed the requirements of public structure.
Intelligent people are flexible people. And your deep seated resentment of the poor and minorities is a result of more than your governmental philosophy. It's amazing that you still want to apply the structure of a hunting and gathering or agrarian society. Our country has progressed even if you have not.
Priciples of freedom which I discussed have not indicated those who advocate them are racist or against less fortunate individuals. Just the opposite. It is the minorities and poor who need the freedom from the government most. They have the least influence and get the axe the most. Principle are principles and are either right or wrong whether discussed in 5,000 B.C. or 10,000 A.D. The hunter and agrarian society were all we had before the industrial revolution, laissez-faire capitalism and the constitution and the Bill of Rights. The freedom in the USA allowed us to move into the world we have today, not unlimited govt. That was what Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Communist Russia suffered from. We had individual rights and freedom, and individual rights are just as necessary now as in 1776; however, there were obviously more then who understood priciples. You accuse me of having a deep seated resentment of the poor and minorities. Where did I once say that. I did not. There are many poor and minorities that agree with the concepts I have brought up for discussion. Discuss the concept and justify your position, but don't put words in my mouth.
Who are the people jocking for position to be our new Representatives and Senators?
No, we're starting a little get-a-way compound near Waco.
U.S. Taxes & Socialism Historically
1794- Fed. excise tax
1798 - Fed. Property tax
1814 - First Fed. income tax
1861-1862 - Fed. income tax
1864 - Fed. income tax
Despite the fractious debate over the constitutionality of subsidies, throughout U.S. national history state and privately owned transportation improvements have been freely subsidized. Between 1825 and 1829, Congress voted to subscribe $235,000 to the Louisville and Portland Canal, $1 million to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, $225,000 to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, and $80,000 to the Dismal Swamp Canal. At about the same time, land grants were made to aid in the construction of three canals to connect the Great Lakes with the Ohio and Mississippi rivers; one of these waterways, the Illinois and Michigan Canal, was still receiving assistance from the state of Illinois in the mid-1970s. The Sault Sainte Marie Canal also received a large land donation from Congress. Railroad promoters also sought
federal subsidies, and between 1850 and 1871, more than 131 million acres of public lands were given to them. The first transcontinental railroads, the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific, received twenty million acres of public lands and a loan of $53 million.
http://www.answers.com/topic/subsidy.
The United States has been exceedingly liberal in granting subsidies to various commercial enterprises, despite frequent doubts concerning
the constitutionality of such action. The debate over government
subsidies had its roots in the conflict between Hamiltonian and
Jeffersonian visions of American development. As George Washington's Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton enthusiastically advocated federal aid to manufacturers, believing such aid was crucial to placing the nation on a firm economic foundation. Hamilton's support for subsidies also reflected his belief that anything not explicitly prohibited by the Constitution was a legal and proper power of the federal government. id.
Wow, I guess we are a socialist country, and have been since the beginning. Or is it ok to take your taxes and give it to the rich and big businesses, just not to working class people?
