One Week left ...

Who will be our next Mayor? We could hit a historical mark with either the first woman or black mayor. What ever the case, Alexandria is truly at a point of no return. With one of our better hotels closing due to not paying their utilities the fact remains that Alexandria is canibalizing itself. A massive Economic Development plan must be created and implemented. Utility bills must be reduced. Our power is purchased from Cleco and marked up by the city. We have a fund surplus. What to do with it? Uhhh ....

Alexandria is being surpassed by Pineville. Mayor Fields and Rich Dupree as well as the Pineville City Council have done a phenominal job on economic development. As a business owner myself, I recognize the ease and less expense of operating in Pineville. I have had many like minded conversations with other business owners.

Voters, think wise and hard on your decision. Candidates think wise and hard. Whom ever is the next mayor will wear this pivotal mantel for a very long time. This could very well be the mayorial term that makes or breaks Alexandria.

I remain,

Hopeful in Alexandria

Mr. Antics,

I must disagree with one talking point in the lead in to your thread: the City does not simply purchase power from CLECO and mark it up. The City is a member of LEPA and as such a part owner in Rodemacher #2 in Boyce. As a member city of LEPA we are guaranteed a portion of the power generated at Rodemacher #2 plus a small amount of hydroelectric power from North Louisiana. The rest of our power needs (peaking power), if any, are then purchased from CLECO.

Those are the facts. Can we do better; maybe on the peaking power. But like all other energy commodities we must consider the cost of the commodity and the cost to get it here.

Compare the City rates to other rates around the state. You will find we have it pretty good.

in the City Council Chambers to discuss the following:

sorry for the repost.

ANYONE BUT SAMS!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

At this point, I think it will be ANYONE BUT SAMS!!

Anonymous said...

You have to wonder why they are going thru the expense and intrigue of a special meeting at such an awkward and inconvenient time, particularly for Hickman or Lampert, when they are having a regular meeting the next day. This is the transparency and fairness issue played out in "spades". I fully recognize Ned's limitations but one would think that the hansomely rewarded Ken or Albin would step in and drop the hammer on Sanders. Ned's legacy could redeem itself by the simple and definitive act of courage and principle. We shall see.

I got a call tonight asking if the election were held today would I vote for Roy or Brewer. However, I live in Pineviile and have not lived in Alexandria since 1998. I work for the City of Alexandria..could that be why they called? Any insight?

Anonymous said...

We should have thought of putting Aymond on Myron and Bridgett's trail sooner. He will keep them looking over their shoulder.

Anonymous said...

Those calls are usually done with a predictive dialer. If you have a 442,445,473 etc. instead of 640,641, etc. prefix on your phone # you are going to get a call.

Anonymous said...

Mark this post for next Sunday. Prediction: Roy v. Fuller in run-off. Brewer endorses Fuller in an attempt to retain employment. I heard that last night at the Peabody forum, all candidates were ask who they would vote for if they did not make the run-off. Six of the candidates artfully dodged the question. Fuller said he'd vote for the lady. Brewer thanked him. That was a sign of things to come. Its gonna get bizarre folks!

Anonymous said...

Damn Spanky...you know everything. We gotta have a drink one day. I'm buying.

Anonymous said...

I thought Brewer wasn't at Peabody last night.

Anonymous said...

Hey Scarlett...more to come.

Anonymous said...

Hey Scarlett was there anything that Roy "mispoke' in his mail piece?

Anonymous said...

mr. reality check, of course i am on your side on the election issue and will gladly put aside our differences on candidates.

Anonymous said...

Brewer was definately not at the Peabody forum. She had a conflicting fundraiser someone hosted for her. so, it would have been hard for her to thank Fuller there unless she has a clone.

Anonymous said...

LOL about a "deal" to endorse Fuller. Number one, Delores WILL be in the runoff. It's just a question of who will be in there with her. If it's a black she's probably the next mayor. If it's Roy--more difficult to beat him because of the voter demographics. If her strategist is worth a damn, he'll every effort to take Roy out now. If Roy's strategist were smart he'd focus on going negative on Johnson and/or helping other blacks in race rather than going neg. on her. It's too late. He won't knock DB out for the runoff. His ONLY goal should be to get in there with her. Spliting the black vote is the key. Picking votes off Roosevelt, to go to CFS or Fuller or Red is the ticket in.

Anonymous said...

spanky, things may not be as bad as they seem at first blush. if i read the town talk correctly, the council clowns can't do anything with out the justice departments approval. secondly, if the election for district 2 and 4 is delayed, it would only be delayed til nov 7. that might be better than having the election and then having it tied up for ever in litigation, effectively maintaining our present council until the suit(s) are finished. regardless, we all definately need to show up at the monday council meeting. i trust our present council about as far as i could throw them.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Antics:
Is there any way to avoid those super long posts from Aymond on this thread? I know he has the right to say anything he wants, but those long diatribes are ridiculous

Anonymous said...

scarlett? you coy seductress. what evil things will delores be blasting roy with?

Anonymous said...

Sometimes it takes space to state facts. Its not too hard to scroll down, and I dont see you complaining about other long posts.

I hope that whoever has that article on Silver's pledge not to run will repost it here. I think that's a big deal and it really pisses me off. I don't understand why these candidates can get caught in a big time central-issue-related lie directed to and at us, the voters, and then expect us to give them our trust and our wallets. I wish I could find that article. It was in the Town Talk

Anonymous said...

I saw one of Roy's mailers about Delores "lying" or "bending the tructh a little" to the City Council.

Thats made up my mind. I know for an absolute fact that an attorney would never, ever do this. Especially one with family ties to the Edwin Edwards administration.

I don't like negative polictis (so much for living in LA)I want to here about WHY I should elect you not why I shouldn't elect someone else. Sorry Jacques, I'm back in the Delores camp.

Anonymous said...

give senile harry a break. it's not like he lied. his wife has to remind him he is on the city council

Anonymous said...

Silver says he's only 84 years old but at our Sorrority's prayer breakfast this summer, he said that he would run for mayor in 4 years and he would be 90 years old. If the mayor runs every 4 years that means he is actually 86. I don't guess it matters if he is 84 or 86 but I just wish somebody would think that we deserved to truth.

Anonymous said...

the over-riding reason NOT to vote for harry is that he told goddard that he polled the council and they all wanted him to run. in other words, he is a patsy they know they can control. that alone should be the kiss of death. he also mentioned to goddard that he wants to sell his white elephant down town, and figures being on the council will give him an inside track to sell the derelict building to the city. to sum up, there is NO reason to vote for harry.

Anonymous said...

Dear California Dude,
Welcome back to the Delores camp. You picked a great time and can get a terrific seat 'cause the room's just about empty.

Anonymous said...

Hey Biff, They are still trying to gloss over the fact that the election is being held as we speak. Early voting started last monday so the process has begun. Who shpould be able to stop voting once it has begun and how will that affect future elections it they are successful here? It is near madness to suggest it. What if we can find a eason in the next presidential election to do the same thing? Would it have national ramifications? Biff, you have almost fallen for the charms of the snake -wake up - wake up - do not look into his eyes.

Anonymous said...

why in the world shouldn't the voting public know that delores is a liar?

Anonymous said...

spanky, you are right. i am with you. thanks for bucking me up. i'm low on booze and the wife hasn't returned from krogers. :)

Biff aka Andy Sams.

Anonymous said...

No one has a single thing on Roy. Now, if DB's camp wants to sling mud at his family; by all means, go right ahead.

That always plays well.

Anonymous said...

DB will do something. she's about to have spent 200 grand for a fourth place finish. how ugly is that?

Anonymous said...

It happens. Remember Greg Walker for judge?

Anonymous said...

yep spanky, that silk stocking went down in flames. spent 200g and couldn't even force a run off in a five person race. i'm telling you, dolores is in the same position. the money decided they could elect her, she was one of them, and the comparison between walker and delores is appropriate.

Anonymous said...

Where do you think dad will finish Andy?

Anonymous said...

From the Town Talk today, the Planning Commision, Registrar of Voters and the City are finger pointing, as to who is guilty for erroneus maps. I hope that the City is expending as much time to discover the culprit as they are on stoping the election. Why don't we know the facts already? It is our business.

Anonymous said...

Hey Tubby, I'm back from a 5 day fishing trip to Costa Rica! I know you took advantage of my being gone to spout more lies, any thing I need to correct?

Anonymous said...

sams will make the run off.

Anonymous said...

Good lord. Aymond is finally involved and interested in the Alexandria races and you are trying to lure him back into the water wars. Aymond is surprisingly smart and insightful when off of his usual rant. I'm significantly overweight, pretty smart, and could use a fearless leader. Leave him be. ***

***The "races" herein referred to are the mayor and council races and not "negro" and "caucasion"

Anonymous said...

The point is that we don't know the facts and that is why I contend that the election must continue and challenge the results when all sides are abel to establish the facts and of course who may be fouled. I would never advocate disenfranchisement and say if that is the result then the election must be held again. Thre is a procedure for these things and my position is that no one can interrrupt the process until it is complete even if there are those that feel it is flawed. What pandemonium will we unleash for the future if this becomes a precedent?

Anonymous said...

Hey Lamar, remember when you asked if I was really going to run for mayor and my response? It really is a great spectator sport, but rather messy for the participants. It really hurts after it is all over for the losers for quite a while.

Anonymous said...

I am announcing the potential formation of a citizens oversight group, KTBH (Keep The Bums Honest) whose primary responsibility will be to focus on the removal from office, local officials that have lost sight of what they are there for in an expedited manner. My proposal is that we enlist attorneys and others from the entire community that will donate their opinions and a small amount of time from a posting board that we construct on the web. I envision the process to go something like this.
1. From a community bulletin board a subject will be discussed from all angles to see if the conflict rises to the level of removal or it is actually a political disagreement.
2. Once decided there is a cause for action, it will move to the action board where volunteers can apportion tasks to initiate action for removal whether it be recall or litigation, whatever is prescribed for the office.
3. Progress board, which as named would be for postings as to the progress of individual tasks in the effort.
4. Result board

Like anything, money would be required and a mechanism developed to fund the efffort.
This is a suggestion that I would like to hear discussed. I may be all wet and will accept that fact if the discussion concludes it. We as citizens must take a stand and take control of our government. When we talk about apathy, I feel the single greatest contributing factor is that people feel powerless to affect change and naturally will not concern themselves with things that are so far removed from their perceived abiltiy to have an affect on. They simply put their efforts towards other things that they feel have a direct affect on their lives and ignore perceived extraneous influences such as politics. Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

First of all, Biff is not Andy Sams. As much as I dislike his father, Andy is a smart guy and would not be using the incorrect grammar and spelling that Biff does.

Secondly, Biff, you're dreaming when you say Sams will make the run-off. Seriously, there's no shame in therapy.

And last, to the person who switched from Roy to Brewer because of the negative campaigning: Are you kidding me? How else will the public know about what's really going on if people don't tell us. If you want Alexandria to stay exactly the same or go down, vote for Brewer. A vote for Brewer is a vote to stagnate.

Anonymous said...

Wow Spanky, I thought we already had that system in place and it was called a republic. The real focus shoud be our city council that has thus far ruled not with the consent of the governed but with contempt for the governed. All of a sudden the council wants to make sure the voice of the electorate is heard, however, when the voters of District 4 organized and presented their collective unanimous choice for the remainder of the Ranson term they essentially said "fugg you". Their explaination, of course, was that in fairness, they must appoint someone who would not run for the seat at the next election. That obviously worked out really well. Now suddenly they are concerned about democracy. Those guys are just trying to hold their club of crooks together for as long as possible. Let the votes be counted and the people be heard.

Anonymous said...

I am not a Brewer supporter but after recieving the flyer from Roy's camp I believe that kind of polictics will backfire on him. He doesn't need to stoop to that kind of traseing but instead the candidates need to stress what they plan to do. I am a Sams voter anyway.....

Anonymous said...

No fisherman anon, nothing has happened since you've been gone except between your wife and the postman.

Anonymous said...

I do not think that Jacques pointing out that Brewer is a lier is dirty politics. I want to know a candidate's ability to be honest. Brewer lied in a televised open meeting. I wonder what she would do in private?

Anonymous said...

Yes we have a system in place to address the issues that I talked about but no one is pushing the buttons because it is a daunting task. That is why I suggest a collaborative effort of all interested citizens to begin guiding our government to where we want it to go. With a little cooperation from a few, I feel that there will be a snowball effect once people know that they can be effective in making choices that count.

Has anyone else noticed that since the beginning of the Roy campaign, Lamar's web site had about as much relevance as the Bolton Cumtux? Real drivil. And then, his appearance post-scarlet-ball-whacker has been scant to none. He just sort of drifts from vacation to vacation with an occassional blurt about downtown condos or mama's business. I miss him.

just a thought, Brewer could have come clean after Ned cut her off at the knees. She could have told everyone" Ned asked me not say anything about the meeting in BR.", but she chose to lie again and call it a "chance meeting" as a figure of speech. Why did she not fire back at Ned? She knew there was no way she could win this election without the support of the powers that be. So she basically sold her soul and whatever honesty and ethics she had to win this election. If she does this trying to get elected what do you think she would do once she is elected. I am a Republican and absolutely refuse to vote for her. I am going to vote for youth and new ideas. Sadly Alexandria has shrunk in an economy when it should be booming.

Scarlett,

If Delores had cut Ned off at the knees like he did her, would you still support her like you do know??!!

Anonymous said...

Brewer put out some real slick professional mail media. Why is she soliciting on busy street corners every weekend, holding signs "honk if you're for delores"? I'm curious about the two different styles/strategies - one being very professional and the other very "highschool". Brewer supporters, any insight as to why she is soliciting on street corners, which by some accounts is illegal in the first place?

Scarlett,

Just so I understand you correctly. You are endorsing a candidate that would sell out on any honesty and integrity she ever had to make sure she had the support of Ned and the powers that be here in Alex. Let me guess. You have more respect for her for covering for Ned than if she would have cut him off at the knees like he did her. Of course Ned has to be told what day it is and what he does for a living every morning when he wakes up. So maybe she was just doing him a favor out of loyalty.

I hope Brewer stays off the corners of Bolton Avenue, she might get picked up in a sting operation and miss voting.

civil and biff,
couldn't disagree with you more...both brewer and fuller look like cheerleaders at a highschool ballgame...no substance to standing on the road waving signs...we use to do that in highschool because it was a popularity contest...I believe choosing a candidate for mayor should have more substance and a lot more dignity, if that's elitism then I guess I'm an elitist...thank you, that is actualy a compliment, I've been called much worse!

Hey Biff!

Get off the job thing with Fuller. The man retired from International Paper years ago. And what high end lifestyle does he have? He drives a beat up BMW and is usually wandering around in khakis and not a suit. You defend Sams when he says he will keep his day job, but beat up on Fuller because the man gets a retirement check. Give me a break...

this mysterious mail out of mr roys has been mentioned numerous times on here and always within the context that "i was going to vote for roy until i received this in the mail" yet no one has produced a copy or a link to a copy that we can all see and decide for ourselves. this appears to be a concerted smear effort against mr roy and unless and until a copy of what you are talking about is made available it should be considered as such.

WeSawThat, these are just Brewer supporters pretending to have had their vote swayed back to Brewer, because Roy's mail-out called her out on lying to the City Council.

I recall receiving a Brewer mail-out toting her honesty.

Why is it a big deal to call out someone who is running for mayor?

Oh whatever Scarlett. As if Brewer's people haven't been calling people up and lying about Roy's record. You're so full of self-righteous indignation that you can't even see the forest for the trees.

Typical response. Delores is SOOOO innocent and we should all be SOOOO upset at Jacques Roy for calling her out for misspeaking. Delores would NEVER campaign dirty. She'll just tell her minions like Scarlett to imply that she has some dirty secret on him without revealing any specifics.

I see the way this works. Roy has specific evidence that proves Brewer is not as honest as she claims to be, and Brewer has nothing but more lies and gossip.

To We Saw That: Jacques mail out simply states what we all saw on TV. It quotes Brewer about a chance meeting with attorneys in Baton Rouge, and how the next day Ned stated that it was a scheduled meeting. It states that she lied.
These are facts. Brewer's openess and honesty in a city council meeting is extremely relevant to her becoming mayor. Pointing out how one lied in public office already, is not dirt politics. This was not an attack on her personal life or family. This was a lie committed while in the course and scope of her official public duties. She works for me, my taxes pay her salary, so I have a right to know that. If she was just rattled by Bridgett Brown, we also have a right to know that and evaluate some who mistates the facts because they are rattled.
I am absolutely fed up with politicians who feel they can tell untruths, keep secrets from me, and feel they know whats best for me. Such people are elitists, not "public servants". Once again Jacques Roy has stepped up and protected the public by exposing our elected and appointed officals. After this fiasco, I saw now real appology from Brewer, although she had an excellent opportunity to bring it up in the first televised debates.
I do not see how any citizen, looking for good and honest government, could be offended by Jacques' factual mail out.

Anonymous said...

Oldest trick in the political book. You get pounded with an effective mail out, so your little blueblood minions are directed to call the opponents headquarters and say they were voting for you but since you went negative you are no longer worthy. Problem is, todays technology allowed the calls to be traced to a bunch of not so sneaky little blueblood minions. Last laugh goes to Mr. Roy.

I was waiting for a table tonite fo dinner and ran into a friend who is a very close friend and supporter of Delores. I have known both Delores and this friend for many years. We had a lengthy talk about the campaign and how we both will be glad when its over. I asked how she was holding up and he told me that she wishes she had never gotten into this race and that the mail out had really demorilized it. That most of the supporters around her went through a time right after it happened when they felt like she had really screwed up but just put it out of their mind until the mail out came out yesterday. Well, to read what she lied about and to have to actually talk about it (incidentlly he says that is has been the 1000 lbs elephant in the room for months but atht no one had discussed it with her) has taken the wind out of her close friends. Also that their is some confusion amongst her supporters . And frustration. Some want her to strike back and others want her to just ignore it. The frustration is that NO ONE has access to anything but the guy from Florida who doesnt talk to any of them. He said its like they are asked to go fight the fight but are not let in on the battle plan. The bottom line he said was that few of the people around her WHO DONT HAVE FINANCIAL stake in her winning are saying that they think she is lost and that they wish next Sat night could get over. He did say that there are a few CLOSE to Delores that she seems to spend a lot of time with and that they are well known to have financial stake in her winning and try to boss others.. That also causes some whispers amongst some. That they are tired of one particular bossy woman who seems to be trying to tell everyone else what to do . Her husbands firm gets a lot of City work. Also, despite what you hear, they read this blod religiously and selectively tell Delores. Also, one of them is assigned specifically to keep MR Brewer from doing anything to screw the campaign up. They think the ACLU thing is the death ray on SAMS (i was surprised they still worried about SAMS) and that because Jaques is a lawyer and his father had trouble years ago that people would not like him. THATS ALL THEY GOT. He said that that was the only negative they had to work on . ALSO , he said that CLECO people were now working for Delores, which we both felt curious about.Said that an email went out last week within Cleco and that out of no where there are CLECO people now woring for Brewer. He said hat thus far they too have been frustrated. Ok, I think that is about it. I would be suspicious that all of this was misinformation (no pun intended) except that he clearly is fed up and nothing he told me exposed much of anything that I am sure the candidates do not already know.I feel like ive done my part. Signing off.

So many of Brewer's supporters are hoping that Jacques being a lawyer, people won't like him?
As of 2001,over half of the U.S. Presidents were lawyers. William Barrett Travis, of Alamo fame, and Sam Houston were lawyers. Alexander Hamilton, Clarence Darrow, Mario Cuomo, Patrick Henry, consumer advocate Ralph Nadar, Sen. Sam Rayburn, and many others were lawyers. Everyday people seek out lawyers to help them with problems. Perhaps Brewers blue blood freinds that have been stopped from taking advantage of the common man do not like lawyers, but multitudes of people are greatful for their assistance and representation.
And if you really want to see dirty politics, what possibly could anything Chris, Sr. did, if true, be attributed to Jacques? That is as silly as people who attack Lamar White with something his grandmother may or may not have done in a church. Jacques is running for Mayor, not any of his family. Now if your family bids on contracts with the City, while in a position similar to Brewer's, that could come home to roost.

Anonymous said...

We're obviously not being nice anymore.

It's one thing to point out when someone running for mayor lied in public but it's an entirely different thing to spread rumors that your opponent was a cokehead who received a DWI, both of which are completely baseless charges.

This is the way the Albert/White Street government crowd has campaigned for years and years.

They're bad government people who feel entitled to use the city as a way of lining their pockets and making their friends rich.

They lie to the public constantly and publicly. This isn't just one person's opinion. It's a fact that is backed up by video footage, transcripts, and depositions. They want to hide this from us.

Delores Brewer and her family have used the housing authority as a way of making money for years. Delores pretends like she's completely ignorant, but I'm not sure how that's supposed to make anyone feel any better. Delores herself tried to win a $300,000 contract from the housing authority just this year.

Rather than respond to these charges, the Brewer response is to get their minions to spread total lies about Jacques Roy on the Internet and over the phone. It's sad, dirty politics,

When the Brewer crowd is threatened with the truth about their dishonesty, they only know how to do one thing, make up lies about their opponent's personal life.

It's a pathetic strategy that fits perfectly within Brewer's overall game plan. They seem to think Brewer can win if she simply cheerleads for Alexandria and refuses to answer anything controversial about her track record and professional experience. The first word in her first mail-out was "Honesty." If I were an opponent in a close raise against Mrs. Brewer, I'd make sure everyone was informed about her record, the lies, and the family deals. Try answering for that, Scarlett and company.

But, as suggested, since you choose this public forum to attack me and accuse me of criminal activities, I think it only fair for you to identify what case you are speaking of with your names, and, if possible, a docket number. I still think that you may have me confused with another attorney. There are even more tuby lawyers out there. I do think, if you are a honest man, you would indentify what case you are speaking of.

I just got back into town and read thru this thread. I must disagree with Cenla Antics that Pineville is surpassing Alex with economic development. Pineville is doing well and hats off to the Mayor and council there. But it's simply inaccurate to say Alex. is not doing well in the eco dev. department. I guess you think the Union Tank car deal is chopped liver. A hotel that has a problem paying it's utility bill is not the fault of the city government but that of the company. I think that hotel will be back open soon. Bentley reopening. Other good things happening too. We do need to elect a good leader in order to move forward. But Mr. Antics, you've been negative since you set foot in this area. Maybe if you'd be more positive, you'd be a happier person.

Anonymous said...

MAD in this context is mutually assured destruction....

Anonymous said...

Ill tell you what. Let me make this simple for any of the silk stocking crowd. That if ONE word of any slanderous publication whether on this site or by way of mail is published about my brother that is untrue I will a) file suit immediately b) subpeona the IP addresses from this website. c)Subpeona the identifying information from the carrier and thus FIND OUT WHO YOU ARE and d) have you placed under oath and questioned e) take you to court and secure a judgement that I will execute. SO for those who want to spread untruth rumors about Jacques Roy, go right ahead. However, be ready for a response much more powerful than some typed message.
The information distributed about Delores Brewer is neither slanderous nor false and illustrate directly the quality of the person and her truthfulness. I will monitor this site through other people and can PROMISE those who want to spread LIES about Jacques that you will do so at your own risk. If you doubt me then there is an easy way to find out.

Good point Watcher, I'm a little sick and tired of Aymond and his lawyer buddies threatening us on a regular basis.

This a forum where each of us can speak our minds. Every word written here is heresay or opinion, even if the poster says it's fact.

Besides, identifying an individual would be next to impossible, or so says We Saw That. Even if an IP address could be identified, what guarantee would a plaintiff have that a specific person typed the offending message?

Let them threaten all they want, the world is a lot bigger than a courtroom.

Anonymous said...

Aymond, you remind me of gnat. Nothing more than an irritating, whining, noise. Unlike the other posters who shoot at you here, with harmless words, I don’t play that game. A most interesting night on the blogosphere, guys.

Let's set the record straight about a few things.

First, I just called Chris Roy, Jr. to find out whether or not he had written anything on Cenla Antics. I was curious, because, as a previous poster noticed, subpoena was repeatedly misspelled, judgment was misspelled, the term "untruth rumors" was used, and the author used the term slander instead of libel (although in Louisiana, both are simply considered "defamation").

Not surprisingly, Chris stated in no uncertain terms that he is not the author of those words, that he has never posted on Cenla Antics, and that the opinion expressed in that entry is not reflective of his legal philosophy. After speaking with Jacques Roy, I can further state that this post was not written by him or any member of his campaign, that Jacques Roy has never written on Cenla Antics or any other blog, and that it does not reflect the legal philosophy of Jacques Roy as well.

This is from the first letter I received from Jacques Roy on July 6, 2006:

"Mr. White:

I have followed your blogs for some time with some interest. You make proposals that seem to me of interest to the public. I have also noted some prescient thoughts by some of the anonymous writers (e.g., Civil Sentient and Suspishus). I believe all forms of discourse are critical to free speech and the marketplace of ideas--including anonymous sources (which as you know from The Federalist were critical to this nation's founding)."

However, as evidenced tonight, anonymous sources also have their pitfalls. Someone believes it is politically advantageous to stage a debate against a fictional character, pretending to be Chris Roy, Jr.

As concerned citizens, I hope we are all on guard against this type of tactic. It's not an open or honest way of conducting a campaign, and it relies on our collective gullibility.

Nice quote.

Anonymous said...

"Sounds like a physical threat. Is that what that was? Watcher?"

No, not necessarily. It was a restatement of my position regarding conflict. Lawyers, because of their training, only think of conflict as court room battles. There is so many more, and effective ways to destroy your opponent should it come to that. But, as I said before, I consider Aymond a minor annoyance and a blowhard. Consider this…what real damage could Aymond or any other lawyer do to any blogger who posts unflattering things here? Nothing. He is fond of saying to put things in writing and sign your name and he will destroy you in court. He calls people cowards if they do not. By his logic we are cowards because we do not rise to his bait. I say we would be fools if we did. Besides, his invitation is another worthless threat, in a different form. I could send Aymond the most vile letter you could possibly imagine, and sign my name. All I would have to do is start the letter with three words and he is powerless… “In my opinion…”

Like most lawyers, their bark is powerful, but a toothless bite does no damage.

Anonymous said...

Funny that you ask, Scarlett.

Anonymous said...

Watcher: I can assure you that the courtroom isn't my only area of training. If you would like to test that, my office and home address are in the phone book. Now what are you going to do, paper my house or knock my mailbox over?
This is a crying shame that this Blog, started with a good purpose, has degenerated into this cowardly mess. Nobody knows if even those posts listing a real name are really that person. Seems like anyone can say anything, even if it is fiction, and it is impossible to hold you accountable. So from now on say anything, I will not respond. It is you who will have to see that yellow streak everytime you look into a mirror, not me.
Thank to you who have expressed true opinions with a view to making this a better place, even those I do not agree with. I also do not want good candidates I agree with to become the victim of evil untruthful attacks, simply because I support them. So if any of you want to speak to me, I am easy to find.

just curious Aymond...what other "training" do you have?

Anonymous said...

The watcher said this:
"Lawyers like Aymond and Roy love to call those of us who refuse to play by their rules, cowards. They threaten us by saying "Reveal yourself to us so we can drag you into our battlefield, where we have a distinct advantage, and extract money from you for writing your own opinion."

and this:

"He is fond of saying to put things in writing and sign your name and he will destroy you in court. He calls people cowards if they do not. By his logic we are cowards because we do not rise to his bait. I say we would be fools if we did."

and then Aymond tells the Watcher this:

"I doubt anyone with a yellow streak enough not to put your name..."

and this.....

"Let some of these gutless anonymous cowards know that they can be tracked down and made to answer. "

then he says this:

"I can assure you that the courtroom isn't my only area of training. If you would like to test that, my office and home address are in the phone book."

I don't know about the rest of you but to me it looks like Watcher got this one dead on. Why should we be threatened by some lawyer bully who wants to silence anyone who speaks about something he don't like?

According to Watcher we're not cowards, and we're not fools either. If the only time Aymond voices his opinion is when he tries to silence ours...do we even want him here?

Just a question

Anonymous said...

This blog (and our community) would be better served if the Aymond protagonists and antagonists would go somewhere else to compare penises. None of you appear to have the courage to take your dispute to a forum where it could be tested and resolved. The reason that you avoid resolution is that resolution has consequences. Somebody would have to stand behind their big-mouthed unsubtantiated, challanges. None of you seem so inclined. I am aware of the fact that the play grounds and grammar schools and offices are full of blowhards like you. You contaminate our ordinarily civil existance. I realize that you will never settle your dispute because disruption of the public peace is what you are all about - but take it someplace else. You are like a bad case of genital herpes - you keep popping up at inopportune times.

Actually, what I'm saying is that this aimless rancor between two (or more) emotionally ill parties is like the cell phone call in a restaurant. I realize that you are concerned because your icemaker is broken or your ex picked up your daughter late from dance class but we aren't, and we don't want to be burdened by your bad manners. The unfortunate irony of that is people like you with bad manners don't really care what you subject innocent bystanders to.
I am merely providing this insight so that you may see yourself as others see you. And to speak for the poor vicitims of your ill breeding that are unfortunate enough to be seated at the next table or attempting meaningful dialogue on this blog.

I really don't anticipate any improvement in your social skills or level of consideration and fully realized that the only word you would "grasp" and respond to was "penis". I also imagine that you have already been told all this by present and former spouses, teachers, employers, and family members. My hope that, like the process of housebreaking a dog, repetition will eventually deliver the message.
